    Fire/Kin Build

I'm with ARMS on this. I've a level 24 Dark Kinetics Corrupter with no travel power but only because of the Jingle Jet and, nowadays, the kindness of Goldbrickers whose jetpacks I keep nicking that I can get away with it. I'm looking very forward to IR at 28 though.

On my Kinetics defender I picked up Fly at 20 for flying about Talos / IP. I'll Siphon whenever I can for the extra speed (Siphon Speed affects flight speed too, but it still seems slower than sprinting with Siphon).
  2. Yep all those helpers in the Hollows deserve kudos. Got drive-by-healed and buffed so many times while street hunting with my brand new little Controllers yesterday. Cheers guys.
  3. I'd throw it out anyway. It may stack with Air Superiority or any other knockdown powers the meleers are laying down.

Plus it deals nicely with any minions Mr AV has got around him.
  4. With my Illusion / Storm, even with my Phantasm, Freezing Rain, Lightning Storm & Hurricane its rare I'd get a knockdown. But it does happen occasionally. So like all effects they are much more resistant to it but not immune I guess.

And Air Superiority is ranged of course - safer.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Eh? Since when is AS ranged? It's a two fisted over-the-head melee clobber. It does knockdown & -flight though which would make it safer.

    [ QUOTE ]

As for the storm powers, all of them are great and worth getting.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well I've a phobia of Tornado and any time I've seen anyone use it (I tried it on Test and then never went near it again) its resulted in a Faceplant.
  6. Don't shield the lesser pets. Basically I'd allow for buffing the MM and 2/3 of his pets, usually the strongest 3. Otherwise its a nightmare.

If the MM sprints off thats their own problem. In fact thats generally my attitude with any AT runners. If you need healing don't run away from me. I have to focus on the main group so you're better off being in it. That said if the main group are Ok generally I'll try and save the runner. I'm usually Kinetics healer though so without enemies I can't heal you really.

Also I'd rarely worry about healing a MMs pets, focusing on the players rather than the pets. Of course I'm always trying to create the greatest benefit from the kinetics AOE heal and I'll try to include pets if possible.

Personally I think MMs have to be able to control and manage their pets properly (making sure they're in range for heals etc) rather than Corrupters or anyone else having to do the work for them.
  7. For soloing I would have said Grav / Energy too (in fact I was thinking the benefits of such a char yesterday).

Grav / Psi might be worthwhile too as it'd provide a wide spread of damage types plus a +regen power in Psi for regening your health, although thats really only effective with larger Mobs.

Plants get a +health regen power in the Spirit Tree which again could be helpful for soloing.

Fire Control is a bit AOE heavy for soloing I feel. The AOE immobilise, disorientate, hotfeet & the AOE hold are all great on teams but a bit End hungry for soloing.

You could also aim to try and get the Medicine Pool. Of course the disadvantage is that you need to take a power that can only be applied to others to get your self heal.
  8. Grats Sassy. Had the pleasure of teaming with you ages ago
  9. Happy birthday Pyra.

Just seen todays special suit on TGs Call On Me vid!

Think I need to go for a lie down...
  10. Happy Cake day Braindamage. Have a good un

a storm defender in a all-blaster group against predominatly melee mobs (if the stormer has hurricane)

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Don't agree with this:
Firstly the Blasters are going to be damaging them & hence drawing the aggro. So although you'd be able to survive against the melee mobs you won't be managing the aggro the way a decent tank can.

Secondly even Mobs like Warwolves have one ranged attack and they'll paste you with it. Experienced this personally twice last night when 20 wolfies threw 20 boulders at Carni. Splat, even with Hurricane up.

Hurricane is great in enclosed areas (like when a group is standing in one of those little alcoves on the Lab tileset) when you can continually knock-back into the rear wall, even better if you dump Freezing Rain in there too but its no tank substitute.

I'd also agree that Rad / Dark defenders can't really tank for basically the same reason. They can debuff so much that there's little need to manage the aggro (because nothing can hit anyway) but thats a knifes-edge game compared to the relative safeness of having a big lump of meat (/fire/stone/ice) standing in front telling all the mobs what it thinks of their mothers and punching away.
  12. Yep, it sure does. Cheers.

It's between Primal & Ice at the mo. I can live without Conserve Power due to the massive recharge but Power Boost looks too good to pass up.

How long is the duration on Power Boost (recharge is 60 seconds)? I assume it affects Fear & Slow effects too?
  13. [ QUOTE ]
Ok iv dropped the single hold, i took steamy mist at lvl 10, then getting 02 boost at 30 and staglamites at 35 instead of tornado cheers guys i been a gr8 help

    [/ QUOTE ]
You've no power picked at level 22? Or am I going mad?

Hopefully thats another Slot for ya

*Edit: And you've Swift picked twice. i assume the level 20 is Health instead?
  14. Yeah I'd agree with Arms here. When Kinetics is your secondary its very hard to get by with just those powers for travelling. Even with my Kinetics Defender I went Air Sup -> Fly at 18 & 20 for IP and Talos. Could have equally gone with IR at 18 but I liked the idea of trying Fly for once.

To be honest I always thought that if Kinetics is a secondary you need 1 or two respecs throughout the build to allow for it: One at 28 to remove your Travel pool and bring in IR (if you wanted) and one at 35 to remove the Fitness pool and bring in Transference.

That was my plan with my Corrupter anyway.
  15. So I'm finally about to hit 41 and I was wondering which Ancillary to chose for my Illusion / Storm. We're talking PvE by the way.

I've read the other post on this but I'm still undecided. Plus its dead quiet here today so I thought I'd throw it out again.

Earth is out as it doesn't fit my char. Ditto with Fire, plus I've no decent immobilise so I won't be able to do AOE Containment + Fireballs much.

Ice is a strong contender as it blends nicely with concept and all 4 powers could supplement Carni nicely. Hibernate could be useful for those uh-oh moments when the Decoys drop and I get pasted by angry mobs, especially since I've no self-heal.

Psi is the one people advocate but I'm not convinced its much use to me. The mez protection is nice, but generally I don't attract enough attention to be mezzed.

Primal could be very useful too. Power Boost would be excellent at 47, but the other 3 powers I could take or leave.

So i'm sort of inclined towards Ice. What do people think?
  16. Nice, well written piece. I like the Icon bit. I always suspected thats what Serge was thinking when I went in.

How come the killer ants episode is always the one Macgiver people remember?

  18. And as my Kinetics Defender found out in Pocket D last night, a Brute is my best friend too. Especially in a duo. Hit speed boost, follow Brute into combat, siphon, siphon, siphon, Short Circuit, heal, siphon, zap, short circuit laugh at puzzled mobs who're now standing around looking silly, heal...

All the time the brute is cleaning house with massive damage. Wonderful. Even better than having a scrapper buddy.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
and doesnt that 10 dmg stack with controller's containment?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Don't think so as its a Pet doing the damage

    [ QUOTE ]

personally i'd go for storm as well. Got an earth/storm myself and if you can keep the mobs locked down, storm will debuff em to gimp city. Just remember that the repel from hurrican will also push away locked enemies, so dont just lock em down, then stand in middle for the acc debuff .

PS. Ice Slick + Freezing Rain = "watch out, slippery floor!"

    [/ QUOTE ]
Storm is great. Personally I'd get O2 (although I waited until 35 as I despise Tornado) for the undisorientate / unsleep it does. The little heal can be handy in emergencies too and its a quick power to fire off and recharge.
  20. Some people just don't like Speed boost, especially in Bloody Tunnels (tm)

Generally if someone refuses it due to "not needing Superspeed" I'll educate them about the +end regen & +recharge aspects and see if they still don't want it.

As for Emps at 30+ I'm always happy to see one in the team. Carni has no self heal at all and invariably she gets beaten to death over time rather than one-shotted by mobs, usually when PA drops. Having a granite tank means nothing if they aren't capable or willing to spot you're in trouble and able to taunt it away. An Emp is far more likely to help out from my experience.

My Kinetics (only level 21 at the mo but I don't see it changing) loves when an Emp is on the team. It means the team will never run out endurance and it gives me free rein to get into close combat range and not worry too much about the blasters etc behind me. I'll try to keep the meleers topped up but knowing there's an Empathy Defender whose "got our 6" if and when Transfusion misses is great.

    Thugs???

Ah excellent. Forgot about them, recent addition that they are.

The first stage of a whole new slew of quad enemies coming I hope (archonos are actually quad aren't they?).

    That bodes well.
  22. Carnifax

    Thugs???

They've no bendy bits in them though, they're a simple mobile "blob" with the texture animation of a load of bugs on it. Hammi, Singularitys and a number of other pets are exactly the same.

You've either got "non-bending blob" or "humanoid" in CoX, no other skeletal animations exist AFAIK. I think they fudged humanoid legs to do snakes and Mu, although really they use a modification of the "legs bent while hovering" animation I'd guess.
  23. Kin / Dark might work well. Only issue is the large number of poor dark powers later on. Dark Pit, Torrent and Drain Life are all pretty useless IMO. But this might give you room for Tactics nice and early etc.

A Kin / Rad is quite a nice combo too.

    Thugs???

    [ QUOTE ]
Think they should try getting away from humanoid pets tbh!!
    Mythical Animals Please!!!

    [/ QUOTE ]

The engine seems predisposed to doing humanoids only really (or static objects). Like even the DE are just bipeds with the same internal bone structure for walking. Snakes are a little different from the waist down (oo-er) but I can't think of non-humanoid mobile mobs in-game at the moment.

I'd agree with you though, I'd love to see quaderpeds intoduced into the engine as it'd give them loads of new options for MMs and enemies.
  25. The implication being that Honourable United don't like Bridger but don't dislike him either?
