Well there used to be a really good guide in the MM section about numeric keypads. I'd link you but none of my bookmarks work now so maybe you can find it.
Or whoever didn't set up a redirect to the threads can find it for you? -
Quote:I have seen forums change domains and use redirects. I cannot believe that this forum couldn't even manage something THAT simple. The saved bookmarks don't work because part of the address of the post on the old UBB forums was ... wait for it .... UBB specific code. These vBulletin forums don't use that UBB code, just as the UBB forums didn't use the vBulletin code. Those were links to websites that no longer exist with that address.
I thank your effort and it's a shame whoever designed this migration didn't put half as much effort into planning it.
I have zero intention of wasting my time redoing information which I'd already collected; especially as the fact the links no longer work is not my fault. I'll keep the stuff which does not link to this forum but anything on here can go. Really they should have just wiped the whole board rather than do this half-baked job. -
Are you kidding me?
Are you seriously saying that the forum migration was totally unable to provide for a redict of some sort?
What an utterly shoddy state. Well, time to delete all my cox bookmarks because I am not going to waste my time searching for threads because whoever designed the forum migration was so lazy that they couldn't appreciate the fact that people were actually USING the information on the previous board.
Shoddy forum migration people, really badly done. -
Is there a way to get it to load faster, this is horrible. 2Mb connection, dual core 3Ghz and 4Gb ram and this forum thinks I'm using a C64.
I know Vb is bad for slow loading but please sort something out.
That rating thing is a griefers paradise. I'm not four years old, I have zero interest in validation from unknowns on the internet.
And why don't all my saved bookmarks work? That's really annoying people. You might as well have purged the entire forum.
There also seems precious little City of Villains too - I use the red skin but I get hero icons? Come on couldn't someone have designed something different for redside?
And when I log in, why must I log into boards.cityofheroes.com? Attempting to log into boards.cityofvillains.com puts you into a non-log-in loop. If you can't log in using that url then why is it live and why does it have a log in button.
So far I'm unimpressed. -
I have to say I dislike this new forum so far. It's pretty ugly and it loads like a snail.
The fact they don't seem to have set up the redirects properly is just icing. Not to mention losing all the avatars. -
I had a load of stuff bookmarked on the old forum and now I can't get it to load. Just 404 erros.
Can someone please explain to me how to get the old links to the new forum format? What do I have to change, please?

Last time I tried to edit the base while someone else was doing it, it told me that I couldn't. Has that changed recently?
If it has and now allows multiple editors then you have the same problem now, so improving the interface won't really make a difference. If the standard interface entrance interface is the same, it would still prevent multiple workings. I never suggested allowing multiple editing at the same time.
The change I suggested is how the 'back end' works. Edit not requiring obeyance of rules, ability to save - either locally or server side and then publish where it goes live and needs to obey standard (existing) base rules. It is implimented in MA so why not in base editing?
If there are more than one person responsible for base editing, really they should be communicating, if they aren't that is frankly their problem. It shouldn't impact on the rest of us who are able to communicate with our SG. There are SG messages of the day and base editing permissions. Use them.
I'd prefer a server-side save so that I could work top left and my friend could work top right (for example) at different times. Perhaps someone else could provide constructive ideas/solutions?
Everything in life has drawbacks and changes to CoX isn't any different. However, if everyone with experience of the problem constructively contributes to solutions then there is a greater possibility of improvement. We can't know all of the behind the scenes issues, but surely it's better to try and come up with ideas.
I'm sure the Devs will come across issues that need to be solved in any change of any aspect of CoX, we really don't need to do that for them do we? It's much more productive to give ideas/solutions to the best of our knowledge. -
Exactly - the paths have to be correct ALL of the time. IE connected to the entrance. I can see why they do it with the current system but it isn't very user-friendly.
I hadn't considered outages but it's a fair point. So how about this: make it *exactly* like the MA. You save periodically. When you're finished, you publish.
You don't need the existing viable rules when tinkering - and saving. But they kick in when 'published'. Ease of design and security with saves. -
While I would LOVE an undo button, actually I would say take it a bit further. Make the base editing require a save.
My major pet peeve is having to ensure correct pathing at all times. Well, I'm a designer and when designing in CAD I often move bits I want to keep off to the side so I can just pull them back into the new position. This cannot be done in the base editor right now. I understand you don't want the base inaccessable by isolating the entrance but if the base editing was overhauled to allow for almost offline editing then it would negate the need for correct pathing at all times. You can make an error-ridden MA arc but you just can't PLAY it. Same deal.
It's really frustrating to have to have a lot more room or dismantle a big area to ensure the pathing is correct. If we could just move control top left and energy top right (for example) while we muck with the rest of it, it would be outstanding.
Then just connect it all together and save before it goes 'live'. No one in the base would be inconvenienced by rooms moving or items disappearing. -
I am absolutely in awe of the sheer effor that went into that.
From from my poor attempts at stacking, I know that must have taken a long long time.
Excellent work there. -
When I first started branching out into teams with people I didn't know, I would never leave. Now I am more selfish and more interested in MY fun. I will quit given certain circumstances. And *how* I leave depends on those circumstances.
Generally, level 54 slammers AGAIN, a team that just isn't gel'ing, someone on the team who is annoying the life out of me will get a "going shopping/getting food/bed, cya" in between missions. Ok I lied the slammers might be at the middle of a mission.
However, if it's a truly horrible experience (trying to do a speed run with completely the wrong team make up for example or several of the above factors), I'm not as nice about it and "I'm done" *quit* is it. That is rude. But so is a five message dissertation on the failings of the team, the team leader and my team mates. I'm pretty dry-humoured, I don't deliberately offend but I am direct and this medium is pretty dire for seeing 'tone'. So for me it's a way to wind up on LESS global ignores.
I do tend to give TF's more leeway. But .. I have quit them. Not a team "this isn't working let's call it" but a "I'm done" *quit*. Takes quite a bit for that though. Usually to the stage where I know my irritation is going to mean I won't be pulling my weight even if I do stay.
If the team has a chance and is working (EG LGTF finishing with 5 including fighting Hami and Honoree like that) then I will stay. But no longer will I hang around in an eight man debt-fest with seven people who would rather solo. Or have two afk leechers. (You joined a TF knowing you'd have to take the dog to the vet/the baby to the doctors etc.)
For me it is not about xp gain but fun and teamwork. If I'm playing a blaster and the tank looks at me under attack and then superspeeds off, that is much more rude - in my eyes - than my quitting. (That actually happened.) In fact being under attack with any mob and my teammates not helping is probably one of the quickest ways to get me to quit any team. I just find it incredibly RUDE and I can't express in this medium exactly how much it offends me. I might be on a squishy but if another player - of any AT - is in trouble, I'll give them every insp I have and try and take some aggro for them. (Assuming they're not one of the solo'ers who team only to cause wipes ....)
Everyone's limits differ. -
I've been on this TF three times - before i15 and after and it's still not been fixed.
There isn't any point /petitioning. I did that and the GM seemed totally clueless and said just /bug it. They didn't offer any immediate assisatance. Very unhelpful.
I was on a 50 brought down to max level and was getting pretty much one shotted. With a large team, the mobs are too tightly clumped to pull effectively. The TF broke up at that point because we couldn't be bothered fighting +5's.
I have /bugged it. It's still broken. I can only hope that if enough people send reports - every time you run it - they'll fix it. -
Excellent. We know in advance not to start anything with a time limit. We also know that there will be a fix to something broken which is quite annoying. Speaking as someone who spends more time mucking with base/costumes than playing, I'm very pleased both by the fix and the communication.
Thank you. -
I don't think anyone would argue with an unexepected server downtime for something URGENT.
Fixing farms which have been broken since the last issue isn't urgent. Yes if they brought it down the day after it went live then yes, but not this amount of time after and I don't give a fig what their user agreement says. It's very poor form, appalling customer relations. If I did that I would expect a major flare up from my clients. And I would deserve every angry word.
There is a villain accolade which you can only get by completing timed missions in sequence - one starts when you finish the last. You cannot go back and re-do it via Oro, you have to get it done right the first time. I would scream seven bells of murder if I was a badger that lost that chance because of inept communication skills of the staff of this company.
If the information could have been posted on the EU board, it should have been posted here. This isn't the first lapse of communication. The 'use your respec' now message wasn't even posted in Announcements; only the Discussion forum.
The communication is getting steadily worse. I don't know why and I don't care. I pay for this game, I pay these people and if I don't like their shoddy service I have the right to complain about it. If others are happy to accept shoddy service and disrepsectful staff then you are welcome to. But I won't. That is my right.
I like this game. And I want to play it. But I also want the company I deal with to show a bit of common courtesy. I'd expect that whether I'd dealt with a company for five minutes or fifteen years. -
Well I'm complaining because the fixes should not have been necessary in the first place.
A proper piece of testing and a bit of common sense would have meant AE would never have gone live the way it did and all the random server down for maints wouldn't have been necessary. Then there wouldn't be a load of "AE has killed CoX" threads, or complaints about servers going down frequently to fix the AE exploits.
I liked CoX when I first started playing. But it is not the same game now. AE caused that shift and it's a shift which should have been caught during the Beta.
There have been a number of great suggestions made about how things could improve - most of which won't be done now it's already live. But it does prove the point that with a bit of thought, things could have been done better.
My guess is the auto-sk is because AE works like a TF, so it can't be changed. But why on earth you can have maps of all bosses or all lts or non-fighting enemies is a total mystery.
Right now what is lacking is COMMUNICATION from the company we are paying. Dropping the servers with ten minutes notice on a non-scheduled maint day is poor form.
So you want to fix the exploits. Fine if it brings CoX back to life. But at least have the courtesy to acknowledge when you mess up. IE the implimentation of AE, the terrible new TF/SF bugs, the fact almost every recent 'fix' breaks something else.
We are your customers. At least show us some respect by communicating with us. -
Have a good one, MB.
Great advice wherever you post. Thank you. -
Hi Stacker, just wondering if you're feeling any better.
-
Gee, guys, did you really need to remove half the servers to get rid of all the AE farms?
Was there any warning to this? I've been alting a far bit but I don't remember seeing any popup about it. -
One thing I would suggest is coalitions.
I have a couple of coalitions with people who run their own small SG (same as my SG/VG, we have three members and currently I'm the active one). Our bases are already kitted out with teleporters etc, so the coalitions members can focus on storage etc while still benefiting from using the TPs in my base. Why does my SG/VG get? Some nice people who are good teamers. I don't randomly offer coalitions; I team a bit before. You start chatting to someone and you may get a similar offer. Obviously this maybe easier depending on your server; which one is it? One of the nicest people I've met on this game was someone who I started chatting with in Pocket D after we both helped someone else with Snaptooth.
Don't be too disheartened about prestige earnt; as has been stated it's a lot easier now. I upgraded my SG base about a week ago and due to a small miscalculation on my part (IE thought the 5x5 room had 8 TPs, 16 beacons) was REALLY short of prestige when I needed to buy an extra TP room. At one point I got all the rooms down (had to sell the medbay) but could only afford one beacon.
Less than a week later I had all those beacons back (160k prestige). Mainly running TFs and normal content. AE only if I couldn't find anything else to do. Yesterday morning I finished decorating the base too.
Last time I checked on a 50, an ITF gives about 20k prestige and that can take 45mins to 2hours. I have never checked the other TFs but I would imagine the low level ones where there are a lot of kill alls to be excellent.
Best of luck. -
It isn't just you. I thought it was great maint finished in 30 mins, tried to log in and it was down. Refresh ... down .. unknown etc. Then it showed all up again.
I'm randomly clicking the log in button and see if it connects. -
Thank you. I'm not at all surprised, I thought it would be a long shot.
Basically I struggled to get one mission set up with that interface. The other four missions in the arc will have the same basic format (two optional allies, a glowie and a boss). The changes for each mission would be map, dialogue, descriptions, boss and ally mob group.
Copy/paste then edit in notepad just seems a lot easier to me than wading through those menus.
Maybe I'll try it again at some point but while I have the patience to spend hours doing costumes and bases, the MA interface doesn't hold the same appeal.
It wouldn't be so bad if you could shrink the text so that you could see more of it on screen.
Thanks for your quick reply. -
I suspect it isn't possible but I'm going to ask .. is it?
I find the MA creation screen cumbersome, unclear and I can't hop back and forth as I'd like to. Now I know the arcs are saved as text. I had a look at one and .... wow that is SO much easier to edit! It's just like working with HTML in notepad for me.
So can arcs be written offline and if not ... can they in the future. -
Only if the coloured panel is an option. It's fairly situational; I can see a limited number of characters where it would be appropriate. The plain jacket is much more useful.
That jacket is the only decent bit of the science pack so I'd hate for it to be ruined by a mandatory stripe. You wouldn't do that to the trench coats, would you. -
THANK YOU!
It was the first arc (since deleted) but it was still on my hard drive. The new arc works fine.
I shall now continue to work on parts 2-4.After I've passed your solution onto support.
