Offline Mission Creation

I suspect it isn't possible but I'm going to ask .. is it?

I find the MA creation screen cumbersome, unclear and I can't hop back and forth as I'd like to. Now I know the arcs are saved as text. I had a look at one and .... wow that is SO much easier to edit! It's just like working with HTML in notepad for me.

So can arcs be written offline and if not ... can they in the future.

The problem isn't so much the format of the story-arc file as it is the data that should go into other than the simple dialogs. You essentially have to create a database that contain all the special keys and references to in-game graphic models and in-game NPC entities and in-game maps. Not to mention that you would completely lose the GUI that displays those in-game graphic models.

It is of course possible to write an offline editor, the modding communities of other PC games have done this and more. However, since this is an MMO, the one thing that is guaranteed to us, is change, and it will take just minor changes in those special keys and references to in-game entities to break the editor and any mission created with it.

Whether NCSoft will actually release an offline editor, that remains to be seen, but anybody else releasing an offline editor... I wouldn't hold my breath for something solid out there.

I believe that a Kheldian Gold Standard should be based on SO's, and for anything above that... there's Platinum!

Thank you. I'm not at all surprised, I thought it would be a long shot.

Basically I struggled to get one mission set up with that interface. The other four missions in the arc will have the same basic format (two optional allies, a glowie and a boss). The changes for each mission would be map, dialogue, descriptions, boss and ally mob group.

Copy/paste then edit in notepad just seems a lot easier to me than wading through those menus.

Maybe I'll try it again at some point but while I have the patience to spend hours doing costumes and bases, the MA interface doesn't hold the same appeal.

It wouldn't be so bad if you could shrink the text so that you could see more of it on screen.

Thanks for your quick reply.

There was one. I've used it. I just can't find either it or a link to it.

It does seem that keeping it up to date with ongoing changes would be a huge pain. When I used it was right after I14 went live, so an awful lot has changed and (obviously) I have no idea if it was kept up to date.

Edit: Found it. It's called "cohoma.exe", with a title bar of "City of Heroes - Mission Planner" followed buy a version and build number. Using that to dig around yielded its home page here

If someone's willing to update it regularly, yeah. Leandro has his offline mission editor available. As per the author (I'm GTalking him right now): It works in Issue 15, but doesn't include tags.

I like mission planner, but it hasn't really been updated since the opening of i14. So, there are certain features (like triggered collection objectives) that haven't been added in. Also, the offline creator will not allow you "text cheats" - by which I mean going over the character limit on a text entry using html codes. The regular mission creator will ignore html coding in the text for the purpose of your "character limit". If you swap the file from online MAC to offline and then back you will find that your text has been truncated.

Still, it's the best offline tool I've found so far - and if you're just putting together the skeleton of an Arc while offline (say just drafting up the text) - it's a really great tool.

let twelfth know (he replied to your post about missionplanner) that my account is expired so once it's back up I'll add stuff to it, but I'm currently unable to.
