Quote:Well, after what I've said, we got the Really Hard Way tonight (see other thread here - http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?p=4258548 ).Im saying in general give players any reason and they will act like jerks.
Its just the way players are..
I joined a full run yesterday to give it one more try and 6 people left after the first 250, even though at that point I was starting to come to the conclusion that smaller trials might be easier because of the way the buff is being handed out.
The leader didnt see it that way and called the trial.
We then tried again afterwards with a modified league after people had alted, and could only manage Hard Way. (only?!? sense of perspective, what's that?)
First run I was on a Corruptor, Sonic/Cold. Still under Tyrant's feet, but stayed alive. Second I was on my Katana/Regen. Planted HARD several times.
I'm still not enjoying it as melee, but with a massively focused league, it should be doable. Even more so on a less squishy toon than my not really IO'd Katana/Regen (who was getting instagibbed (and not by Flow Lightning) through capped MaxHP... not fun)
The stated design goal of 'any PuG that meets the entry criteria should be able to do it'? I'm not sure it meets that, but to be fair, it's still too early to tell. Ask me again in a month or so, when people are more used to it.
Myself, I'm never going to run a Farm Magisterium. I'll get Hybrid on my alts the 'real' way, thank you very much. -

^ thread with screens as proof, should anyone require such
Also Tsumiju, it's Corten, not Corton, and Kenny Dewitt, not Kenny Bewitt.
Congrats to the league and why did you all naff off before I could get it on my badger after I'd brought my Sonic/Cold Corruptor along to help you ungrateful swines out? <grin> -
Quote:Metric truckloads of debuff and buff, Single target damage and a league who can move the hell away when the crackle warning comes up <ahem>So.. any hints for those of us who wish to get this ?
Hybrids ?
(Guesing 5x Support , then Assault?)
Destinies?
Lores?
:-p
Well done though!
We had Ultimates being used, Longbow Core Lore for preference, Diamag Radial for -regen and beat the hell out of him. Hybrid wasn't really a factor IIRC -

Quote:I'm pretty sure they're Immune or massively resistant to the Flows, however if they're getting targeted, then that has a significant impact on the encounter. My guess is that pets are either not targeted or immune to the Flow Lightning, as my Vicky lore pet seems to last a pretty long time (provided that I do).
If they're immune but targeted then they can stay in and do damage, but none of the other melee player characters can, since there'll be Flows under Tyrant's feet, and commanding pets to move in the time available is not going to happen on most leagues.
If they're not targeted then I can blame players rather than pets for the flows under Tyrant's feet
The problem I have is that there are at least two competing equally important demands in that fight. 1) do as much damage as you can, as fast as you can. 2) be able to move fast and far on a moments notice.
If I'm on melee (so far my Katana/regen scrapper's done it), I can either be doing max damage output or I can be doing more conservative damage output and ready to move NOW. (I also have a third demand which is to try and stay alive in melee against the ground punch of doom). So I'm not doing as much damage as I could because I'm watching, ready to move, and I'm doing less damage again, because I can't stay on the target 100% of the time. I'm not really enjoying that fight as melee
This situation feels a little to me like the debacle of the AV regen change way back when it was still Cryptic. I'd have thought that the lesson that the player base don't really enjoy fighting massive sacks of HP with huge regen values would have stuck, but maybe that's my natural cynicism coming through. Also, please note I know this is meant to be difficult, the final showdown against Tyrant etc. etc. but it's not feeling like fun to me right now. -
Quote:Wouldn't be the first time that MM pets have caused issues with trials, Green stuff badge in Keyes, for example. If pets count as "targets", and it probably does, then the problem is greatly magnified by having lore pets, MMs, and most controllers and dominators.
Also, I've not had a chance to notice, been too busy trying to stay alive, but are lightning flows spawning on pets, or just league members? If the former, that'd be another strike against pet users.
And I'm hoping that the 16 target cap on the Notice of the Well is either a display glitch or an oversight, because if it's WAI, I'm not imressed. All it'll mean is that the Magisterium will not be run as a full league by those who know about that wrinkle. -
Quote:It always amused and annoyed me in equal parts when just after BAF/Lambda came in, I'd see 20 or so people stood around DJ Zero in PD spamming /b with 'Any trials forming?' 'ne trails' (don't get me started on gibberish spelling) and so forth.Well we do have a portion of the player base that has such an aversion to the Star/Team Leader position that they literally have been seen standing in a circle at contacts/trainers for teams/tf's/trials spamming LFT for over an hour and then complaining that the server is dead and they can't find teams.
If I was actually looking for a trial, I'd usually mutter something in /b then start forming a league, but it does remind that Forbin has it right in that you can never underestimate just how allergic a lot of people are to any sort of responsibility for a team. -
Quote:They reduced the strength of the [Antimatter Pulse] AND reduced the required number of terminals per reactor from ten to six AND reduced the [Disintegrate] damage AND changed it from a complete end drain if you survived being [Disintegrate]d to a partial drain.Case in point KEYES. okay so they did nerf the pulse a bit. The reason they succeed now unlike when the trial first started is people learned to GRAB glowies and rn up and slot 6 terminals before Anti Matter ever arrived. At that point you don't even need to taunt him just go fill the rest of them holes and move to the next reactor.
It was all of those changes combined that made Keyes so much less painful and tedious IMO. Increasing the chances of Rare/Vrare at the end of Keyes too was just gravy
(and I had multiple MoKeyes from the old Keyes, I knew how the trial worked and I still found it painful and tedious.) -
Quote:Nope, because HO's don't work that way any more.Imo this is really only useful in exploitive slotting like slotting it in a power that provides Res but does not accpet Res enhancements cause otherwide if you had an +5 IO you would have similar numbers and build towards set bonus
Assuming I'm remembering correctly, nowadays, unless a power accepts enhancements for the attribute that the HO emnhances, then that aspect of the HO isn't applied.
So a power which took End Cost but not Resistance SO's would only get the End Cost enhancement from the HO.
Nowadays, a 53 HO is good for free/premium players that can't use IO's or a second build on IO'd toons in case the player ever expects to go Premium and lose IO access, but mainly for the sheer 'OOH!, SHINY!' factor(and the sheer rarity of them makes them desirable to certain collector type players, all of which was mentioned by the OP.)
As far as bidding on the item goes myself, I'll pass. I hope that in the end the seller and buyer are happy though. -
I actually meant those making estimates in this thread
I'm now idly wondering how much inf is taken out of circulation by people leaving the game.
It's not as thoroughly gone as it used to be when you HAD to pay to play and if someone stopped paying, then their stuff was effectively gone, but if/when a particularly well off player stops playing, how much of a dent, if any, does it make in the inf supply? By which I mean, are there enough players with enough of a bankroll and enough activity to have any effect at all by not playing?
For example, if I was to stop playing, I'd have next to no effect on inf supply, because I don't spend any on the markets. That's why I've got the amount I do, I make it but don't spend it (which is probably an aberrant/atypical play pattern, but <shrug> ). -
I was moderately amazed to get 'Beam Line' for my Beam Rifle/Time Manipulation Corruptor on Union after CoH:Freedom went live last year. Been a while since I got my first choice name for a character
-
Quote:<sigh> I know, but eventually I can't resist the idiocy any more. It's a failing, Mea CulpaAaaaaaand another thread goes off the rails. It's really the best idea to not respond to the troll.
I don't really have anything sensible to add to the total inf supply discussion, mainly because I accepted long ago that there are so many different ways of playing and enjoying the game that all you can do is get an order of magnitude best guess going.
For example, I've never farmed AE tickets, I don't run back to back WST's or TF's for merits, I don't use converters to upgrade IOs and I don't grind out tips for AM's, yet I've still racked up about 60Bn liquid inf that is stored mostly on my alts, so 48Bn of it just won't appear on the auctions. The inf that can't be held on my 24 alts *is*, however, stored as bids on IO's.
Which means that for the purposes of estimating inf supply, 4/5ths of the liquid inf that I hold is invisible to any tools those making estimates have access to. -
Quote:Yes, I know. And I gave you a 100% extra bonus leeway free of charge to make life a little easier for you.A bid of 1 inf will only buy you something that is listed for 1 inf if there are no bids outstanding for more than 1 inf.
Also, if thing are being listed at 1 inf, then how are there unfilled bids? The mere existence of unfilled bids means that things are listed for more than one inf, thus shooting a gaping hole in the assertion that I took aim at.
Quote:
How much would you like to bet those 567inf sales were listed for 1 inf ? Certainly no more than 11 inf.
Get a screenshot of almost all of the items I mentioned with a successful bid of 1 or 2 inf and then I will accept that 'Nearly everything' is being listed at 1 inf.
Quote:I see from where this is going I better grab some screenshots of my stored inf, for when the inevitable, "You are poor, you don't know how the market works, you are resentful of people doing better on the market", comments raise their heads.
I also didn't address the 'need' for IO's, or anything else you seem to be going on about. -
Quote:Well that statement there is demonstrably just plain wrong.I am not speaking of just common anything. Nearly everything on the market is being listed at 1 inf.
If 'nearly everything' was being listed at 1 inf, then a bid of 2 inf would buy you 'nearly anything' that had stock listed.
Go on, place some 2 inf bids on, oh let's see... Level 50 Generic Endurance Cost and Recharge Reduction IO's, Pangean Soil, Temporal Tracers, Level 30 Generic Defence Buff IO's, Level 50 Red Fortune Defence/Recharge Recipes and for garnish, some Ancestral Weapon base salvage. Oh, and put some bids on for a couple of Ultimate and Good Luck Inspirations while you're there. I'll wait...
I picked those choices out of the air as I'm not logged into the game at the moment, and can't check supply/bids on them, so I picked things that I'm assuming have listed stock available, and that came to mind, so make of that selection what you will.
I'll keep an eye on this thread so that when your bids have filled, you can post proof.
If they don't fill in oh, let's say a week; and there're still items in those categories for sale, then that means that the items listed are listed for more than the bids placed on said items.
Oh and a piece of anecdata too - I personally NEVER list anything for 1 inf on the market. If the going rate for something on the market is less than vendor price then I vendor it. -
Quote:It's better (and worse) than that.Didn't know "Z" put your character out of fighting stance and/or sheathed your weapon if you have one until recently.
Z, by default will cancel any queued powers, so if you suddenly really REALLY don't want to use the power you've got queued, then slap Z and assuming you're in time, it won't activate.
However...
It will also un-auto any auto powers you may have. Had Hasten on auto-fire? Not any more.
Nowadays, to drop out of combat stance, I just hit Esc twice. I don't use auto-fire powers much, but when I do, I want them to stay auto-fire, like mez protection on my Shield/SR toons. -
It's not just F1-F4, it's F1-F5 - mapped to the five columns in your insp tray, at least assuming you've not remapped them to something else.

Quote:I'd have said more the original Bubblegum Crisis/Crash than Eva/Stratos.Nah I was thinking of some other shows. Stratos you just have to get into a neurosuit. Early Neo Eva was more naked then that. And man I need to remember that Mecha anime that just plays up the bad comedy with Big busted female mechs. The anime was a satire of that style.
But even they used the 'plugsuit' (to swipe some eva terminology) if I remember right.
However, the armour size in CoH would fit more with BGC than series with larger/chunkier mecha.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled discussion of costume parts. -
Quote:I've used .tga screenshots since I started playing, as I hate lossy formats for screenshots, since any further messing around with them afterwards just makes the compression artefacts more noticeable and irritating. That does the same thing, except the images are saved in lossless TARGA file. Why they didn't go with PNG is beyond me, but it's easy enough to convert using something like GIMP or IrfanView. I use these images mainly for doing screenshots of the user interface, as JPG artifacts when I want pixel-perfect renderings drive me batty.
Be aware, though, that as a lossless format, the images are a lot bigger than their JPG equivalent. If you don't have a lot of capacity on your drive, use them sparingly.
However, I've got a standard setup I use and have used since I started on EU launch, which is to assign Toggle UI Screenshot to F12 and TGA screenshot to Print Screen.
I slap PrtScrn, F12, PrtScrn and I get a pair of screenshots, one with the UI, one without. Afterwards I pick the one I want.
And on my system, running at 1920x1200, .tga screens are currently running at 6.75Mb each so yes, if you're low on HDD space, then use .tga screens sparingly. -
There's also the Crafter's Cafe as another option for AE crafting.
Same map, but has NPC's and other shiny things in it for flavour.
On the subject of tips, a minor one that not many people seem to know about is regarding dropping Enhancements into the Market interface. If you've got a load of enhancements (not salvage or recipes) you want to drop on the market, then open up the market interface (using /ah if you've got it, a Went/BM representative if you don't) and simply Left click the enhancements in your tray.
They go straight to the market interface in the 'Stored' section and you don't risk accidentally dropping a potentially high selling enhancement on someone stood next to you. -
WARNING! Bloody Huge Image Alert!
Kiss ran a costume competition in PD last night, 'Who am I?' was the theme/question.
This is a quick and dirty compilation image of the entrants
Between the three of us judges, I think we got 75-80% of them guessed right. I'll let you lot either own up or play your own guessing games in this thread
3rd Place (250M inf) : Kansuke
2nd Place (500M inf) : Dr Delerium
1st Place (1Bn inf) : A man with a stick
Congrats to the winners and it wasn't an easy job to pick three.
:edited because apparently I can't spell 'huge'...: -
Quote:You can touch Katana over my twitching corpse...Battle Axe/War Mace/Broad Sword/Katana - these stay on the same boat: they're not bad, they're simply...meh. New weapon sets just have more gimmicks, more interesting mechanics, more appeal than just whack-a-fu.
A powerset which stacks -def on targets so you keep hitting, has two soft control powers (GD and SD) which used well and with a little bit of luck can juggle a boss, a huge width cone and a pbaoe, a self +def buff and good damage/recharge/accuracy numbers aren't good enough for you? o_O
Plus (still) some of the better looking attack animations in the game?
And frankly, gimmicks/mechanics on the new sets don't make me anything other than appreciative of Katana when I go back to my original character, a Katana/Regen scrapper.
DB combos are a source of irritation when you miss one attack, and having most of the secondary effects of the set being tied into the combos makes you less flexible if you want to use the secondary effects.
TW has the whole slow, quickquickquick, slow... cadence to adjust to, which can be annoying for some people.
Oh, and War Mace needs no looking at, either. It goes CRUNCH on my Brute very nicely, thank you very much -
Quote:It's a media event, he's press. Paragon can't really go to the press and say 'Hey guys, we've got these really cool things we want to show off, but your representative must pass these three tests before we let them play... First, he must fetch us a shrubbery...'...I don't like this Grakulen guy on the stream. He obviously did no research before getting this stream up, and with no dev audio working on the stream, the advertisement value for Paragon Studios seems really low.
It was purely a sneak peek at the trial, not at how good or bad or new to the game in general Grakulen was.
And yes, I was wincing at a Brute running around with no toggles and not using momentum, but those are skills that you pick up by playing the game and putting time in.
The trial looks like it could be challenging with a normal server PuG, less challenging but still entertaining with a more coordinated group.
And I'm saying nothing more about the trial because there's already been enough spoilering of i23 today on these boards -
May as well drop these here, since I finally got round to going through and reuploading a couple that had vanished from my original thread.
Used this one as my desktop wallpaper for a while :

Probably the best of the redside panoramas I did:

Icon in Steel, the fisheye may do odd things to your eyes:

Firebase Zulu, again this one comes with a Fisheye distortion warning:

More fisheye, RWZ this time:

Grandville hall, came out pretty well:
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images...towerhall.jpg/
Arena:
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images...apanorama.jpg/
Most of these are 8-12 screenshots (1920x1200 each) stitched together, hence he relatively huge pixel dimensions.
As a tip, keep the horizontal and vertical field of view of your original screenshots relatively limited, unless you want the fisheye distortion effect. About 3 screens horizontally and 2 or 3 vertically is about the limit before things start getting unpleasant. -
Quote:Not bad.So I bought a new camera, and it came with this cool program, where I can take panoramic pictures. So I decided to have a little fun and create a panoramic screenshot of

and

What do you all think?
I had a shot at these a couple of years ago (good grief, is it really that long ago?), the decent results I had, I posted here.
