I tried this on my /dark scrapper, and it was pretty nice..... right up until I hit Cloak of Darkness and completely disappeared.
I really enjoy /dark armor, but I hate the weird purple and red rings everywhere and the total obscurement of my character. I really wish I could selectively turn off the graphical effects of some powers - either through game options or by adding "dummy" graphical effects in an override directory. -
1) Flashback system:
Awesome.
BUT: They need to massively fix the way IO sets get nerfed on exemplar. That really hurts this system majorly.
2) Weapon Customization:
Totally awesome.
3) New Inventions:
Be very careful here. This could get really lame and annoying if the quest for uber rare loot gets too annoying or becomes too specific. If you are constantly having to run specific TFs or trials for example, this would get extremely lame. -
Do the artists at Cryptic watch modern entertainment at all?
The swords from 300 looked AWESOME.
Heck, even the swords from Troy looked cool.
Do these guys watch movies at all? There are so many places where they could get ideas for something that isn't so incredibly plain and boring.
And how about some particle effects for our weapons for crying out loud.
-
Wow.
I am shocked by how TERRIBLE those blades look.
I was SUPER excited for this set, and these pictures are a major buzzkill.
They look incredibly simple.
Cryptic, do yourselves a favor and release tutorials to let modders skin your crappy weapon models.
Mace. Axe. Broadsword. Katana. Dual Blades. They all look TERRIBLE. Amateurs can do better. -

And Kheldians don't suck.
And the check's in the mail. -
Honestly, a much more important feature than fancy splash screens would be the ability to change the order of our toons at the login screen.
Also, you are about to dump 250 million info into the economy. You realize that has an inflationary effect, right?
How about you counteract that by dropping 10 LotG recharge, 10 Numina's recov/regen, and 10 Miracle regens onto the WW at 10% below the current sell cost.
Then at least you've done something to counter the inflation a bit. -
The sewer trial is probably the most fun trial/TF I have ever done in CoX. It is a shame that it is bugged and is annoying to get started.
They should make this a lvl 50 trial, no autoexemp, and let us do it as our "real" characters with all of our powers. -
I think the whole idea of limiting the teleport options by any sort of control/power/room size costs is unnecessarily restrictive and punitive.
What is the harm in letting people buy *1* teleporter that has access to EVERY zone they have the beacons for?
All this would do is make travel a little more more convenient, and it would mean people no longer need the giant rooms of ugly, ridiculous looking teleporters. Not to mention, it always felt really stupid and fake to have the same exact machine multiple times in the same room. They all use the same technology, why can't a single device share the data for all the locations?
I think they should take the current cost of a single teleporter, and upgrade that such that it has EVERY location for which the SG has earned the beacon badge. -

Despite the outcry from the DOOMsayers with bare minimum hardware to play the game
[/ QUOTE ]
Point of order: My hardware handles the invasion just fine. I just happen to think they're unfun and lame.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well Cap, you can avoid them and with the patch notes for the Test Server today, soon you will even be able to ignore the Invasion messages.
[/ QUOTE ]
I was hoping to just avoid them by not playing until the event was over, only to discover to my horror that it never entirely will.
Feh.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah. What a shame.
But they will just listen to the "yes men" here on the forums whose drooling hero worship is as predictable and unchanging as the invasions themselves. -
[ QUOTE ]
That does, of course, explain 100% why every time there's an invasion, the zone is swarmed with people and requests for teams fill the air, doesn't it.
[/ QUOTE ]
About the only thing that gets swarmed on Triumph and Liberty (both hero and villain side) are the trams/ferries as people leave the zone. -

Hey GA I thought you were going to update this?
[/ QUOTE ]
Worked on it today and mailed it to Ex to update.
Changed it to a Co-op zone.
[/ QUOTE ]
I so wish they would do this. People have begged for it for how long?
And definitely co-op. -
[ QUOTE ]
If it fell on it's face, why was it brought back "by popular demand"?
[/ QUOTE ]
The only "popular demand" is from the forum bootlickers who are more into comic books than games. In the actual game, the invasions are utterly despised.
[ QUOTE ]
And then I looked at the link in your signature.
[/ QUOTE ]
Do you realize how utterly you LOST the argument when you reduced yourself to attacking the game that is linked in my signature? Over 11 years of commercial success is really a foolish thing for you to attack.
Are you that completely unable to stay on topic? Wow. That is really sad.
Game. Set. Match.
Thanks for making it easy. -

Firstly, people should be able to experience or ignore content as they wish. These Invasions amount to forced content.

Secondly, the ADMIN spam announcing attacks is irritating in the extreme. It would be better to have it only affect the zone that will be targeted and on a special channel that only those who care about them who are outside the zone can put on a chat tab.
Thirdly,...lag.

When will they listen? These invasions have been a total disaster.
Do the devs ever log into their game and listen to the players? Yeah, the forum kissups love them, but in the actual game people groan miserably over every channel. -

Any hope of this event being made interesting instead of the pitifully dull, repetitive, unoriginal, unimaginative thing it is currently?

Any hope of you taking your criticism of an event a lot of people like and taking it elsewhere?
[/ QUOTE ]
Any hope of you posting on topic instead of attacking the poster?
This is the specific thread for discussion of this "feature." There is no better "elsewhere." This is exactly the appropriate place to post feedback about these invasions: both positive and negative.
And yeah, I use extreme language, because sadly that is the only kind of post that has a chance of being noticed. The devs ignore calm, mild, moderate posts.
[ QUOTE ]
Just as soon as your own posts are.
[/ QUOTE ]
Really unnecessary, but hey, make yourself look as bad as you want.
Why am I so harsh? The harshness is probably what makes some people resort to personal attacks. That is a shame, but they only make themselves look bad by doing it.
1) There has been OVERWHELMING disatisfaction with this event - from the RED ADMIN SPAM to the hideous performance issues some people suffer. And yet this enormous feedback is ignored, and they just dump the thing right back onto everyone? Huh? They can't even fix the ridiculous spam? That makes sense?
2) There is absolutely nothing interesting about the invasion after 1 or 2 times. Everything happens in the same way. The same random spawns of chump Rikti spawn and get slaughtered. Yawn.
3) There are no objectives. There is nothing but killing a bunch of randomly spawning Rikti. The one thing that was marginally interesting (killing the drop ships) got nerfed.
Honestly, nobody with any experience playing MMOs could find this event at all worthy of praise. It is incredibly simplistic, unoriginal, repetitive, lacking in anything unique or interesting, and just plain rots. As an added bonus, it spams the heck out of everyone making chat unbearable (yes chat, one of the main features of any MMO) and slaughters some people's ability to play the normal game due to the performance hit.
This "event" is a total and utter failure on numerous levels, and the devs have no business dumping it back on the playerbase after it already fell on its face in an embarrassing fashion.
The invasion event needs a TOTAL recode and redesign. Until it can be made interesting, varied, and exciting, it is just a complete waste. It is worse than a waste, since the spam and the performance hit actually WORSEN the normal game experience for a lot of people. -
Any hope of this event being made interesting instead of the pitifully dull, repetitive, unoriginal, unimaginative thing it is currently?

OOC:
The Invasion will be ending Tuesday 8.7.07 as a daily event. It can still be triggered in a single, random zone through player actions, however. In addition, we are planning on bringing the full-scale Invasion event back on random days throughout August and September, and possibly beyond.
[/ QUOTE ]
Any change of making it actually FUN and interesting, rather than boring and repetitive?
This event was fun a whole 1 or 2 times.... tops.
Make it fun by having all sorts of objectives, and make the loot awesome. Tons of magic salvage, rare salvage, and rare recipes. Then it would actually be something to get excited about. -
[ QUOTE ]
Still don't understand what the big deal is. I think people need to relax and just put it out of their mind.
[/ QUOTE ]
The big deal is simple:
An online game where chat is broken, is not much of an online game.
The unfilterable red admin spam breaks chat.
It reminds me of AC2, and their frequently broken chat server. It pretty much strangled that game in the crib. -

Therefore, the costs to do the maintenance during early morning hours would increase due to having to pay a time-difference compensation for those who maintain and babysit the servers.
[/ QUOTE ]
1) Too bad. That's called the cost of doing business. $2.4 million a month in subscription fees is enough to do maintance in the wee hours of the morning.
2) They have to have staff on duty 24/7/365 anyway. They are already paying people to be there at 5-7am. If they need a few coder types to be there also, then they have to be there. The gaming business has so many people desperate to work in it, the employees can't exactly complain.
The customer comes first, and that means if they want to do maintenance, a few employees have to wake up early. Too bad.
What is worse? A couple of employees waking up a few hours earlier, or thousands of customers getting screwed?
Do the math. -

Let me spell this out real simple for you.
NCSoft (the publisher) set the maintenance schedule. Remember, they own the server hardware, they pay for the bandwidth, and you pay them to play.
....
How much more clear can I make it to you?
[/ QUOTE ]
It is highly unlikely that NCSoft sets the maintenance schedule. They don't even know what to do or when to do it. Cryptic sets the schedule because it is their people who know what actually has to be done during the maintenance.
This isn't just rebooting servers.
If it was all up to NCSoft, and they wanted it during business hours, it would be during business hours for Asia, not Central US. NCSoft is not even based in the US.
The fact that they delete threads about this issue and refuse to explain themself is a severe embarassment to Cryptic. This is not a "personal crusade." They just squelch the issue at every turn, ban people, delete threads, etc. They are doing everything they can to just ignore the issue.
Why would they do that?
Because they *know* what they are doing is wrong and unfair.
-
The real TOP ISSUE is still this:
Stop shafting your morning customers with your maintenance schedule.
You are averaging 2-4 days a week lately that your morning customers lose out on their entire playing time.
That is patently unfair.
Cycle it a bit.
Move it to a less populated time.
Seriously, it is long overdue that you re-examine your maintenance schedule and do something a little more equitable and less onerous to your paying customers. -

My top issue:
Stop giving your morning customers the shaft.
Can we get an explanation why you continue to make the exact same customers bear 100% of the disadvantage of these downtimes?
[/ QUOTE ]
Since I work the night shift at my job, I don't usually get home until around 4am, mountain time. That means that the servers drop 3 hrs after I get home.
While it's hardly the end of the world, nor does it happen every day, it is frustrating that I have to put up with it whenever they go down.
It would be nice (maybe not realistic, though) to stagger the times of maintenance so that the same folks don't have to endure the downtime every time it happens. Just a few minutes ago the servers dropped in the middle of our Siege mish. Yes, we saw the warnings. No, the fight didnt go as quickly as we'd hoped. So, yet again, I get punked by the maintenance.
And to those posters telling us night/early a.m. players to "just get over it", spare me, OK? I've been playing this game for almost 2.5 years, working night shift the whole time. When you have to deal with the downtime during the middle of your peak playtime every single time they do maintenance, for 2.5 years, then you can tell me to get over it.
OK, sorry for the hostility. I just don't like having our concerns dismissed so carelessly by people who most likely deal with the downtime rarely, if ever.
[/ QUOTE ]
Right on the money.
The thing is, what you said makes TOO MUCH SENSE for it to be continually ignored by the devs.
It doesn't make sense to do maintenance any other time than your MOST DEAD TIME (which is not 9-11am).
It doesn't make sense to have your maintenance window affect the SAME EXACT PEOPLE 100% of the time. This is especially true when you hit people 3 days in a row.
This is basic, reasonable logic folks. The customers deserve a little better here, and they certainly deserve an explanation.
The way Cryptic hides under their desks about this issue is just mind boggling.
If you think you are doing the right thing, then stand in front of everyone and explain yourselves. Don't sneakily delete posts and threads and hope people won't notice. That's Verant/SOE type tactics.
You can do better, Cryptic! Your staff is one of the more connected in the business. -
The crappy maintenance system is DEFINITELY a top issue. The way maintenance is done right now is an absolute embarassing sham.
Three freakin mornings in a row your morning customers get the absolute shaft?
What the heck.
And why is it that this issue is so tabboo people are not allowed to discuss it on the forums? Every time it gets raised (the issue of daily maintenance and its inordinate impact on the SAME customers) the thread is erased.
Insecure about something that you SHOULD be embarassed about, Cryptic?
Seriously. Maintenance should be done during your most dead time. That ain't 9-11am.
Furthermore, it shouldn't hit the SAME people three days in a row. -
My top issue:
Stop giving your morning customers the shaft.
Seriously. This is two mornings in a row that morning customers get no playing time because of this maintenance.
Everyone knows 8-10am CDT (9-11am EDT) is *NOT* the slowest time.
Can we get an explanation why you continue to make the exact same customers bear 100% of the disadvantage of these downtimes?
Would it really kill you to occasionally do it at 6-8am EDT? At the very least, whenever you have to do maintenance multiple days in a row?
Seriously. If you care about your customers, they'll care about you in return. -
Is there any reason why the male TANK TOP option does not let you have any of the detail options underneath it, but sleeveless jackets allow it?
You can use the various arm/chest patterns to make neat looking tattos with your sleeveless jackets, but you cannot do the same with tank tops (and tshirts) which is a shame. -

Do you have the power and that was your test results, or are you getting those damage numbers from another source?
[/ QUOTE ]
I have the powers. My brute is lvl 45. I've tested Mu Lightning, Ball Lightning, and Electrifying Fences. Using the test server, I've tested them all, in slotted form.
Mu Lightning - mediocre damage. Almost unnoticeable end drain.
Ball Lightning - Horrible damage. Barely any end drain. Enormous end cost. Long recharge. This power is garbage.
Elecrifying Fences - Decent end drain. VERY low damage. Decent immob. But here's the problem: other than fire melee, brutes really have very little need for an AoE immob. And for many brute types (like SS and stone) the fact that it prevents knockdown makes it a bad thing.
Pet - Laff.
