What server are you playing on where Defenders are not wanted?? I don't think I have been on a team in the past 2-3 years that didn't want or have at least one defender on it.

Quote:Batman clone.*shrug*
For a 'swinging' mechanic to be even halfway useful in Co*, it'd basically have to be fly with a different animation. Slap it on as another flypose and call it good, if you really must have your Spider-man clones.
Ninja clone..

Quote:Are people still laboring under the delusion that I16 is going to kill MA farming? Seriously, people, look at the changes - only things they're doing is killing boss farms and pissing off a lot of story-oriented authors who use custom critters.
If you're having issues finding teams, it's you, not the game. Make some friends who do the same stuff you do - works for the rest of us.
QFT. I do think we will see shifting of some farming back to other game content thanks to new difficulty sliders and super sidekick. However MA will still have farms, as will the rest of the game. -
That I can understand perfectly. What boggles me is the "No, because CO has it" or the "No, because it would look stupid" mentality. Balance of Cost vs Reward for the development is a very valid concern.

Quote:Agreed with the past 10 years of WM being garbage, but since the iPhone came out they have been pushing hard to catch up. Starting with today screen replacments such as TouchFlo (HTC owned I believe), Panels (I forget who made this....Samsong?), and 3rd party apps like Mobile ShellI have a hard time buying that any version of Windows Mobile will ever challenge the iPhone in terms of usability. The last 10 years of Windows Mobile has been utter crap.
I'm no anti-Microsoft zealot (I like Vista for pete's sake!), but that's a stone cold fact.
Microsoft has stepped up their game with WM 6.5.

A side-by-side demo from pocketnow.com. Having used it and played with both an iPhone and iTouch I thing it is coming close in terms of layout and function. Still a long way to go but it is getting there.
Rumors of WM7 are looking good too, but not near the jump we are seeomg frp, 6.1 to 6.5 -

Rope shooting into nothing is no different than any of the other oddities we endure for game mechanics. The amount of time the player chooses to endure is up to them and should not be a reason not to look at the idea.
Honestly I don't see the reasoning here. Why argue against more choices in the game? The best argument against it that I can think of is that it would require the addition of a new PP, requiring an additional 3 powers to be added to the game and to match the theme of the swinging.
All that aside, I think the best bet we have of seeing different travel powers will be rooted in the alternate animations that we are seeing with I16. Would be cool to pick between Rocket boots or a floating chunk of rock in addition to generic fly. -

Quote:Absolutely not; your work is expected to fit in the space provided.
This would be valid IF the MA was a finished product. As it is now it is a story telling medium in development. Our creativity will help the system grow.
Drawing outside the box is the point of the system. -
Verizon's version of the HTC Touch Pro

Just got it a couple of days ago. They are being phased out so the final cost with 99.99, and with my new in 2 it was 49.99
Already hacked it to run Windows Mobile 6.5 Beautiful OS, it is going to be a strong competitor for the iPhone once it goes live. -
Quote:Most of those things you only see once in a long while, and a lot of them make sense. Dropping robots are heavily implied to be air-dropped or launched artillery-style, manhole covers are implied to simply be part of the scenery and Mercenaries Spec Ops are not "climbing down," they are rappelling down, and from the looks of it it seems to be assumed they are rappelling out of a helicopter, which is a pretty standard scene in fiction. In fact, the GIs from CNC: Generals could do just that - rappel out of a Chinook helicopter and clear out buildings.
Granted, a lot of those don't make much sense, like the Commando parachuting inside a building or robots emerging out of the ground in Oranbega. Out into the open, it's easy enough to claim that the crafty Mastermind just has secret robot-delivering hatches built all around town and one just happened to be there, but in off-world locations or ancient catacombs, it DOES look out of place.
But again, that happens once, and these henchmen last 99999 seconds, or a little over 27 hours. And with them zoning with you as of I16, a good Mastermind will be recalling rather very rarely. Swinging is not something you do only rarely once in a while. Swinging is a repetitive process you do continuously over and over as you travel. The way it's implemented in Champions Online would probably put it at a little over flight speed here, which means that if you want to swing from Talos Island to Circle Island, you'll be grappling the heavens for a good 30-60 seconds. And heaven forbid if you want to get from Nerva Archipelago to Thorn Island. You'll be "swinging" over open ocean.
And that's completely ignoring the face that the way Spider-Man swings is completely impossible from a physics perspective. You can't stand on the ground, grapple a rooftop and launch yourself into a violent swing that takes you almost horizontal of your grapple point. As a general thing, a swing will on its own will never take you higher than the height from which you started. Granted, a "miracle excuse" is in order a lot of the time just for the sake the rule of cool, but even Spidey often finds himself in trouble because there are no buildings around for him to swing from, and he has to resort to stupid solutions like making balloons or parachutes out of web.
What I listed was the tip of the iceburg. To say CoH does not have such unexplainable actions for the sake of game mechanics is wrong, and that was my point.
I think any type of swinging would be best served as part of a new travel set that mixed scaling walls (Think Batman, not spiderman), faster than sprint running, higher than CJ jumping, and swinging from high objects with a targetable mechanic. -
Outside point of view, so take it for what it is worth.
To those of us who can not draw well the ability to bring in game heros and villians to life in ink and paint is worth praise despite any flaws that may be seen by a trained peer. -
Quote:Spiderman existed long before CO. In the Spiderman game, which is built around that mechanic, it works. In CoH, it would look stupid.
I have no idea what your point is. Spiderman existed long before CoH, CO, even Champions Pen/Paper. To the second statment I have faith the Devs could make it look good, if not better than CO's version.
Side note: Many heros outside of spiderman can swing. -
Stings from Heaven...is that like when it rains robots?
Or manhole covers from space?
Magic upgrade portals in the ground?
Mercs climbing down....strings from heaven?
And that is just MM's. Don't get me started on Gravity..
We already have a collection of stupid things for the sake of gameplay mechanics. One more is not going to break the game. -
Just because the idea came from CO does not instantly make it a bad one. More travel options is not a bad thing.
I think the problem is that it would require the addition of more travel pools. It may be easier to have different versions of existing travel powers with new animations, and possible different effect values and costs.
I would like to see swinging in CoH myself, but it would need to be paired with some form of climbing or wall crawling to really fit well. -
A good idea for future MA updates would be to stream media from places such as Youtube into the game, avoiding the Alt-tab issue and making it as seamless as possible.

Call me silly, but I really want a Kinetic Armor set. Heavy on targeted powers with the ability to buff your team. Almost like playing a WS with Eclipse.

Did not want to start a new thread for this, but if this is the wrong place to post let me know and we can get this post deleted.
If you are looking for a place to host images I would like to offer up my site as a possibility. While it is a writing based site I do allow image posting via the vBulletin user album. I have plenty of space and bandwidth and recently setup a field that will give you the BBCode to show the thumbnail and link to the full image. It gives you the code to do the following with one click.
Thumbnails are max 250x250 right now while I work out the best size. Full size image is max 1600x1200 for the upgraded users (see below). The script will size down the images as needed.
If you do decide to join, shoot me a PM after your account is created and I will upgrade it so you can have larger images posted.

I dunno, MA sure does not feel limited to me. Within the confines of the space requirements you can combine the various tools presented to you in very complex ways. Chaining objectives can do wonders for making missions feel innovative. Sure they are based on simple tasks, but so is most everything.
But thats just me. Your results may vary. -
Quote:plus they're no fun if you out level them, i did a couple on my lvl 50 scrapper, not much fun. especially when your the only person doing anything
IMHO they should tag all these events with the GM code and tack on merit rewards for helping to complete them.
Edit: I type way to slow...the Invasion code idea is what I am talking about. -
I think the set bonus from Kinetic Crash is the cheapest way to go in todays market.
Personally I stacked Acro and one steadfast in Temp Protection. Can not remember the last time anything knocked me back. -
As the number of Hamsters approaches infinity the likely hood of faceplanting reduces along the same curve.
It is one the mysteries of the universe, if 1 hamster can wipe a team how can 8 take on Hamidon with 0 deaths.
The followup question is if he soloed it or not.
