Enerix: Yes, with a condition. Yes, +Heal affects self heals. However, some self-heals also have +Res (most often Toxic). When the +Res is enhanceable, the power must be flagged as not accepting buffs, otherwise damage buffs will buff the +Res. For powers which do not accept buffs, +Heal will not affect the self heal.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. -
Also, something I forgot to add in my previous post:
There is a reason for why SR guides are rare. And the reason is because you don't really need one. You pretty much need all of the powers in SR (with the exception of Elude, which is not NEEDED). And that sums up the guide for SR. All powers also take standard slotting. Either 2/3 Slotted for Defense, or 3/4 slotted for Defense/Endurance. -
I'm pretty confident that it does.
On a related note, does Heal Bonus also affect self-heals? -
It's because SR to Brutes is very new.
And as a DB/SR Brute player, all I can say it is anything but bad. I'm currently enjoying my SR Brute more than any other character. Here's my build if you wanna get an idea of how SR is:

To me, this is the most distressing bug currently in the game.

I think we need to make and publish a CoH Developer calendar, in which all the date numbers are replaced with the word "Soon!"...

Bah, I'm content with what we're getting. Besides, it's not happening even if you did want it to. Wait till i16 when we get Demon Summoning and Dual Pistols.
(Because Halo just isn't enough you have to have it in your MMOs, too)

No one knows if Rogue Expansion will be "Issue 16". It's separate from "Issues" from what we've heard. -
I've been running CoH on Vista since Vista was on Beta. I never had any similar problems. I suggest you hit up the Tech forum and post a system log if you want people to help you.

Shadow Fall/Steamy Mist...
For christ's sake...PLEASE turn it off in the tailor! I'm begging you! xD -
The arc was very well written and amazing. I loved it.
My only pet peeve was the very very very annoying lieutenants. They just kept spamming Spectral Terrors and it totally ruined my experience in the last mission.
But 5 stars nontheless! -
Oh my. That cape looks delicious!

I think Male Widows should get stiletto heels too. :P

Is it bad that I almost screamed in joy thinking an announcement titled "Weekend Update" is about I14 going live over the weekend?

And do you honestly think the devs are just WAITING for this post to go "Aha! Now we know with archetypes to nerf to make these people more miserable!"? They've -built- the game. The know exactly what goes on, which ATs perform well for farming, and which missions are best for them. They probably know more about it than all of us combined. I bet one of them is probably reading this guide and laughing to himself at how wrong we all are on the most efficient method of farming. xD -
<to OP>
I noticed that you forgot to mention the 'Demon Farm' on hero side. It's -excellent- for Spines/Fire scrappers since they do purely fire damage, and the map is really straight-forward. Also there are lost of corner to herd them to for maximum damage. -
Well, here's my second attempt at drawing Enerix:
Scarlet Queen

I'm kindda happy with the way it came out comparing to the last one I posted it a few days ago.
Again, any sort of comment/tip/suggestion would be extremely appreciated. -

With charcoal and oil paints and such, there is built in texture that you can modify rather easily, and the small bumps and "imperfections" make something that would ordinarily be boring much more interesting looking. All you get in photoshop is a smooth solid stroke.

Exactly...lol -

Since you asked for crits, who am I to deny you? lol
First of all, something that has nothing to do with digital art, that is, Anatomy. You need to work on it a bit more (don't we all). The illustration is stylized, so I will only point out the truly weird stuff, since I know that you aren't going for the ultra realistic look.
The left arm, as you mentioned, was awkward. The bicep is too low and too "short". Biceps take up more of the length of the arm. Also, it is connected to that shoulder muscle (can't remember what its called, tricep?). The other arm is also a little off. It seems "bent" to the right, and also rather flat and smooth.
Here is a lame painting of some of the anatomy.
The torso is too long. If I recall correctly (I don't actually check when I draw people anymore, since I'm lazy as hell) a human should be 7 head lengths tall. So the torso should be around 2.5-3 head lengths long.
So that's about it. I actually really like the look you have going here. It looks very professional and the lines are very well done. Don't be discouraged by the wall of text I just threw at you.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thank you very much
Yes, I still need to work on the anatomy...it always looks nice on paper as a sketch, and as soon as I transfer it to computer and clean it up a bit, it looks awkward. That's the reason I was always discouraged to actually draw something on the computer. But this time, I decided to try out vectors. It is extremely time-consuming and frustrating at times, but the advantage is that I can easily edit the mistakes on the computer; and the original sketch for this was way off. But that's as far as I could fix it in computer.
I think I just need to practice more and more on paper...
P.S: I think a human is 8 lengths tall if my old drawing formulas aren't too rusty. -
Well, I am posting this because I'm looking for comments and tips on improving myself.
I recently re-started drawing characters (I used to do it before a long time ago), especially female characters which was my weak point. So this is my first attempt at drawing a decent female character and my very first attempt at coloring stuff in computer.
This picture was converted into vectors (manually) in Adobe Illustrator, and then colored in Photoshop.
I am aware that hands look very awkward (especially the left hand). So...I know I should be improving on that...
Any comment/criticism/tip/tomato would be extremely helpful to me...
And now, I present you, Enerix!
For her bio/information, please visit her Virtue Universe Page.
Thanks in advance. -

All I can say to you is a nice /e bow. I cannot express how helpful your suggestions were.
Anyways, I kindda learned where my mistakes were, thanks to all of you guys' help. I also found this
tutorial very helpful, god bless the person who posted it here.
I'm gonna try fixing this drawing and I'll post it on the forums for more feedback.
Thanks a thousand times guys! -
Alright, here's one of my works. One the left it is my claw scrapper....and the right one I drew just for the heck of it. They are sort of half finished and as you can see the female one is kindda scratched out cause I wasn't happy with the arms I guess....The reason I chose this one to show you guys was because while looking through my old archive, I figured this is my best shot at a female character...

Hehe that's funny. I have a hard time drawing males, they always end up looking effeminate! :P
[/ QUOTE ]
lol...my males ain't that great either cause I combined things I learned from a Manga/Anime site (the style which I really don't like for some reason...) with my own background and started drawing CoH/CoV characters for practice...then they came out good. But my Sister Psyche looks like Statesman with orange long hair and some weird fetish clothing....lol
(btw...lovely avatar) -
I've been drawing cartoons (mostly political, conceptual cartoons) for many years now and I have a moderate background in drawing. However, I have always been taught to draw conceptually and don't care about the details of your characters. So mostly my characters where either shabby looking males or sex-less, face-less, blobs that represented a humanoid figure.
With my relatively low knowledge in figure drawing and specifically comic style drawing, I managed to learn how to draw a remotely nice male figure/hero/villain in the comic style. However, many many times I've tried drawing females and it just doesn't work...they all turn out as skinny men with weird-looking chests and random muscles here and there. I recently made a female toon on CoV and I really really wanna draw her...but I'm just afraid of ruining it.
Can someone please point me to the right direction and give me some good online or offline (I'd very much appreciate the former) resources that can help me draw better comic-style sketches; especially on drawing female figures. I've done a few google searches here and there, but if I followed what it said on the tutorials, it was perfect; if I decided to tweak the pose by a tiny bit, the skinny man with weird chest came back to haunt me.
Some guidance would really mean a lot to me. -

You forgot to mention the thesaurus. Probably the most powerful hero naming tool ever created. You can find all manner of cool one word names just by looking up synonyms and antonyms for a given word. A good example is my Ice/Ice blaster. I was looking for a really cool name that would announce his powerset so I went to the thesaurus and started searching under cold. Found frozen under cold and thought that fit my character concept better so I searched under frozen, this led to icebound which still fit my character concept but wasn't quite what I was looking for in a character name. Frigid was listed under icebound and it caught my eye so I searched under frigid and found frost-bound. Now that was what I was looking for, it was very cool sounding and suggested a person with ice powers that were both a blessing and a curse. It also gave my bio a real comic flourish at the end!
You can also go with a running theme. My wife plays CoH and she came up with the name Bloody Elle back during beta. Since that time she has reused Elle for any number of characters. A Fire/Rad controller called Crucibelle, a Jean Grey homage FF/Psy defender called Marvelle, an Invy/Fire tanker called Cinderelle, an Invy/Stone tanker called Minerelle, a Sonic/Energy blaster called Rebel Elle. (Okay, not one word but you get the point.)
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes I did forget to mention thesaurus. Sorry 'bout that.
And yes the running theme does work. As you noticed my names either end with -ix, -ox, -swing for my recent characters.
Thanks for the add-on McBoo -
I've seen many naming guides on the forums here. But they all suggest that we use adjectives, prefixes, and suffixes. Now many of us, including me, want to have actual names that are just one word; like Synapse...Neuron....Anti-matter....etc.
However, as we all know all those are taken. Right? Wrong!
DISCLAIMER: The names suggested in this guide do not have any meanings. An adjective-less name would probably have no meaning; like Crey, like Mayko...so if you want your name to be 100% relevant to your toon concept, then I do not suggest my guide to you. This guide focuses on names that SOUND cool.
You just need to be creative. And to do that, you need the right resources. Here are tips on resources to use for your one-word names:
Chemistry class wasn't all that useless after all!
Alright, I may be sounding all geeky-like; but the periodic table is my number-one resource for choosing names. Yes I'm serious. A particular element I like is Xenon. I like X's and Z's in my name; makes them sound cooler. Now, you may ask "I can't name my hero Xenon; it's taken!"! Let me finish! Yes, Xenon is taken. But what Renon? What about Zenon? What about Xeron? Play around with the letters.
Here are some names I used off the periodic table:
Lethox (comes from Lithium; implies Lethal)
Rubidox (comes from Rubidium; It also carries Oxygen which implies my Storm secondary)
As I mentioned, I add X's to my names just for my satisfaction, play around with the letters. Work out what sounds coolest.
Sometimes the rarest things in life are right under your nose!
You can always mix-and-match letters from your powerset names or powers. I recently built a Brute called "Enerix". I took Ene- from Energy and added my signature "X". You could go with Electrix...Got an Electric/Energy brute? How about Enelectic (hurray for my first example without an x)?
Now here's the thing. Sometimes it can be hard to mix and match names so that it flows nicely when pronounced. Here's what I do when that happens: Keep repeating the original combo-word. Repeat it and omit/add sounds until it sounds smooth. Also, don't be confined with the actual name of the power/powerset. You can go with things that resemble that powerset. Fire? Red? Heat? Hot?
So...if you got a fire/ice blaster you could go with Cold-red? Too choppy? How about Cored? Reads like '"core'd". How about Redco? The o at the end makes it long. So you need something to cut it off with (this is where my X's come to the rescue...but Redcox sounds...not right....lol) Any non-vowel could help here....as long as it sounds cool. That's just an example to show how you can get from Red and Cold to something like Radcol (notice how I changed the 'e' to 'a'...try it, doesn't it flow nicer with 'a' instead?).
Comics FTW!
Read comics. And I don't mean go buy a whole collection of comics just for naming. The casual CoH comic reading helps. For instance, on one of the issues, I saw a toon named Moodswing. I later built and ice/ice blaster called Coldswing; followed by a fire/fire blaster called Heatswing. So try to get names, and reverse-engineer them. It usually works.
Using these tips for my own toons, I rarely see the infamous "This name is already taken" box during character creation. And I'm usually admired for my toon names. Also, this technique has one plus side...people can't shorten your name! I hate it when they called Bright Shadow as "Bright"...
Hope this guide helps some people out there.
