I am not one to complain like this. I believe my relatively short posting history will verify that. However, this latest patch has failed on so many levels that I am compelled to, well, gripe.

I can't play the game. Period. The rubber-banding is horrendous. The game is crashing on Vista at 10x the previous rate. Whatever you did, you did it too quickly, and with not nearly enough thought.

Fix it.

Now.

I'm pissed. I wanted to enjoy an evening playing my favorite game, and because you felt the need to rush in your last patch due to errors and oversights that you yourselves made long ago, I can't do that.....and I don't know when I'll next be able to, since I don't know how long I'll have to live with this poorly conceived, poorly written, game patch.

But it would be nice for Vista support to come soon.. W7 is around the corner. lol

On a side note, it might be a good idea to provide us with more info so we might be able to find a way to help you in the meantime. CoH_Helper and HiJack?

Its really amazing how relevant they want to remain as a game publisher. My belief is that they have a responsibility to support current standard operating systems if they want to maintain subscribers.

The game IS supported for Vista; the couldn't use the 'Game for Windows' logo on this site if it wasn't. Open a ticket with NCSoft tech support or look for the player made Vista Problems and Solutions' threads on this BBS.

Windows Vista Compatibility Center
City Of Heroes
Compatibility status

To determine product compatibility status for the Compatibility Center, we looked at whether:

* The product has earned the Certified for Windows Vista, Works with Windows Vista, or Games for Windows logo—any of which indicate that it has met Microsoft testing requirements for compatibility.
* The device manufacturer or software publisher states Windows Vista support for the product.

Not Compatible

[/ QUOTE ]

It doesn't mean the game wont work, and that they wont ever release fixes for Vista (that already added "Vista compatible cursors").. It just means that you can expect any possible OS-specific issues to go unfixed for quite some time until they see fit.

But I agree.. it might be in their best interest to announce more support for the current popular OSs (oh that's right.. they recently added the MAC!) lol

Yeah....you do know that the only listings for CoH/CoV on Microsofts site there are the Collector's Editions....released in 04/05 respectively. Don't be too surprised if that Compatibility Center information is still from over 4 years ago.

People were running it on Vista then too. As far as Windows7 goes, there is really no reason why CoH/CoV wouldn't run and run well on that OS as is.

Vista has nothing to do with this issue, nor does I14 really.

Question

What NCsoft® products are supported to play on Windows Vista™?
Answer

Currently, only Guild Wars and Lineage II are officially supported to play on Windows Vista. However, many of our products play on Windows Vista without issue.

I've been running CoH on Vista since Vista was on Beta. I never had any similar problems. I suggest you hit up the Tech forum and post a system log if you want people to help you.

[/ QUOTE ] lol well I was originally editing the second link into my first post, but after seeing that you had already replied.. I saw it fitting to post it as a reply to yours instead.

And to add to the discussion even more:
Although most people think the posted system requirements for this game are outdated and understated.. they still have "Microsoft Windows 2000/XP" as the recommended OS, despite recently editing in support for the Mac on the same page:

Vista not being supported just means that Vista issues will be shunted primarily to the forums. They will give a quick once-over, and if they can't fix it, they'll give it to forum-goers to poke at it. This gives them far more time for their GMs and tech doods to work on other issues, since the game isn't designed for Vista and therefore has...odd quirks.

Complaining and demanding fixes for unsupported software (which may or may not even be the problem to begin with) gets a person nowhere. lol

You're right. It's gotten me absolutely nowhere. I shouldn't post when I'm that upset and that tired.

I'm tired of having to find creative ways to deal with Vista. If I ever meet Bill Gates, I'll kick him in the nads.

I was just very frustrated when I logged on last night, after having played, for the most part, without incident for the past few weeks, and found the game unplayable after the latest patch. The rubberbanding, the crashing (which usually only happens once a day, and I can deal wiith that ), not to mention it took help from the forum just to figure out why my one story arc was suddenly unplayable.

At any rate, I hope the issues are corrected soon. I'm glad to hear not everyone is having a problem.

Be more proactive. Do what people have suggested and take steps to rectify your own problems. Don't nerdrage and expect folks to have sympathy or jump up and go fix them for you. I'm nearly certain there are things you can do to improve your situation.

You're right, I don't expect or deserve sympathy. I'm sure there are fixes to be found, I'm just tired of having to periodically look for them. Maybe I got a little spoiled by four years of XP and just having to update the drivers every so often. So yeah, it's off to look for another creative Vista fix for yours truly.

But no, no sympathy requested or deserved. Just pure, unadulterated nerdrage.

Ah, I think I see where the misunderstanding happened. I wasn't demanding that the community fix my computer. When I said "Fix it", I was simply railing at the powers that be for doing whatever they did in the latest game patch that is now screwing with my system. Sorry if I gave the other impression.

No, I'm going to take Lemur Lad's suggestion and take a deep breath, and delve into more of the Vista fix threads, and if that doesn't work, then I shall compose a much more dignified, polite request for help from the community. Thanks for putting up with my venting, all.

Ive been playing since early 08 on my current Vista machine.. and the only time i rubberband is when my broadband goes stupid. Check your netgraph to see the traffic that the game is receiving. Check your cable modem for its signal levels. Check your Task Manager to see if something else is hogging resources.

Lots of potential problems but nothing that we can diagnose without more information.

Do you run it on Vista in full-screen or windowed mode? While I can run in Vista under either, I see a very nice increase in framerate when running in Windowed mode (I just stretch the window to be as big as the desktop, so I'm not really losing much in real estate). This might help your rubberbanding issue, at least some.
