Quote:There is no argument?! So that's why you keep countering everyone's post so offensively and calling people names! No need for a counter argument if there's no argument...
...It's called hyperbole (and only slightly at that). Look it up, chuckles.
And I'm sorry for laughing at that post. I thought this was an argument, and the fact that you had to use such a massive level of "hyperbole" to support your case made me chuckle and shake my head. I was wrong, I guess. This isn't no stinkin' argument! -
I stand corrected. An unslotted Ice Controller, between the levels 18 and 40ish, can do 4 damage per minute, if and only if the character faces only one opponent at a time during that level range, at all times.
Does this mean I lose? -
Quote:Or maybe the trash cans are ninjas in disguise! Huh? Ever think of that, Mister?I understand the need for the "accuracy" concept in the game, but this should NEVER apply to hitting static items. I hate that my high level superhero swings at a giant vault door and misses. How does THAT happen? Or when you blast a cardboard box and miss (!).
Make accuracy 100% on static items so we don't all look like putzes in from of our teammates ("He missed that trash can! Loser!! LOL") -
Quote:Um.....That perfectly describes playing the above character - or did you think that 2-4 damage every minute from a hold contributes significantly to damage above and beyond brawl.
And what was the point in adding "never will" to that sentence? How would the idea that I would get a damaging power in 31 levels make me not have to rely on brawl for Outbreak? Did you try to change your point half way through the sentence and fail at it?
WHAT? XD
"Did you try to change your point half way through the sentence and fail at it?"?!
Did you try to provide a counter argument and fail at it? XD
There is absolutely no power in this game (excluding zero-damage ones) that provides as low as 2-4 damage PER MINUTE! What game are you playing?! XD
This post is hilarious... -
beginchat takes an argument. For instance,
/beginchat "Hello There!"
would take focus to chat input box, put in "Hello There!" and then place your cursor at the end of that message, in case you wish to add something. This comes handy for binds like
/bind key "beginchat /send GlobalChannel " <--- Note the space before the last quote. Or,
/bind key "say (OOC): "
startchat simply doesn't take an argument. It just sets your focus to chat input. I believe the default bind for enter key is,
/bind enter startchat -
Quote:A Buff/Buff Archetype -is not- dead weight in my opinion; in the same way "Boyfriend Arm Pillow" isn't exactly dead weight...If only someone had raised this issue about the diminishing returns of the proposed double-buffers before this very moment.
The same thing a scrapper before his mez protection does under the circumstances: Pray, get out your throwing knives, and wonder when the Council started using web grenades.
To clarify something: I don't think this proposal is a good idea, because I don't think an AT with two of the same set class is a good idea. I'm mainly raising objection to the premise that someone who doesn't spew out orange numbers is "dead weight". -
Quote:...that's not how you derive logical conclusions!!!I think the reason why this thread is still going is because it's such a controversial and interesting idea that there'd have to people that'd want to try to play something like this. Personally It seems like an interesting idea. I know support characters are very necessary on teams and I like playing them. Something that is THAT supporty? I wouldn't mind trying. buff people, put heal on auto watch tv for a couple minutes. Lol
-
I personally used a similar trick at some point for tells. Basically to let people know if I'm talking to someone in private.
Few days later I realized it wasn't a good idea and defeats the purpose of a "private conversation". So I ditched it. xD -

Quote:There is something called balance, playability, fun-factor, game concept, and natural selection...and then there is variety.Because its interesting and different. Variety, people, is the spice of life. My original draw to this game was how different all the ATs were, back when controllers had massive control and no real damage to speak of pre-32 (before containment). It gave a whole different feel to the game than playing a blaster or defender. I want to see more of that, more variety. I want to see more innovation.
Dual blades with the combo thing was a good idea. Dual pistols with selectable damage type and secondary effect is a good idea though it doesn't go far enough. I'm hoping for new unique ATs and I'm hoping that all powersets from here on out put something new and unique into the game - not just reskins of powers we already have. That gets boring.
Just because you could hypothetically do it, doesn't mean you should, purely for the sake of "variety". -
The issue with the Mastermind/Brute debate is that if you're on a team with a Brute and a Mastermind, the Mastermind simply cannot overcome and steal the aggro from the Brute (this is assuming the Brute is a classical Brute definition, and the Mastermind is a mastermind build for tanking, WITH minor aggro management).
The threat level of a Brute, combined with the fact that almost all their attacks generate aggro, simply makes it nearly impossible for a Mastermind to effectively keep the attention of enemy on themselves and their pets.
Tanking is not the same thing as surviving. Sure, a Mastermind can out-survive a Brute. Hell, sometimes my Blasters die less than my Brutes. Just because you can solo a +1/x8 enemy group on your own, it doesn't mean you can be a psuedo-Tanker. The primary purpose of a tank is to keep the enemy off the team, and the secondary purpose is the ability to survive the aggro resulting from the first action.
A Mastermind, even with Provoke, simply cannot fulfill the primary purpose, for a variety of reasons. Or I just haven't ever seen it done effectively! :P -
Quote:The entire thing isn't a universally accepted "rule". It's a vague convention. Of course you'll see people use it in ways that makes no sense! It's not math! :POkay, so explain to me the person I saw in the D having a spat with another. The second character hits the first with a chain, and the first one emotes "He would recoil from the pain in his arm", and a moment later "grabs other character by the arms and holds her up in the air".
-
Personally, I see the purpose of taunt differently on Brutes than my hypothetical Tankers.
I used to think Taunt is useless for Brutes. That's mostly because most of my Brutes were rather squishy (they were more of Stalkers than Brutes; purely concept reasons). That's until I got my DB/SR Brute! She could withstand a lot of bashing, and I finally took Taunt on her; and that's when I realized how useful Taunt is to steal aggro in order to raise Fury faster and faster.
Especially when you're not "the primary alpha-taker" on teams. -
Quote:So you wanna roll back basically anything done to enhance the game balance. ..This times infinity.
There are tons of other crap that needs fixing as well. What they need to do is go back and look at every single negative change that effected players and really ask is this change needed still with the way the game plays now?
Things I would love to see rolled back.
Travel Power suppression
Phase Shift nerf
Hami-O nerf that made them into Dual SOs
Resistance cap per AT nerf. Seriously no one is going to get there without a ton of IO and/or outside help.
ED if not for all powers then for a select few like hasten, stamina, travel powers
Things that make no sense and that are extremely unfair
How this game is so AT mod dependent when it should not apply to certain powers, for example why do defenders have to get the best bonuses for leadership? A leader could be anyone it doesnt have to be a defender. If anything if they really wanted to push it, masterminds should get the highest bonus because they are the very definition of leadership in this game but they dont. -

Quote:Sometimes this is not because of utter ignorance or incompetence.I've encountered so many RPers who butcher the language so badly they must have been touched in a bad place by their English teachers. These days, I'm thrilled just to see something vaguely resembling standard spelling, punctuation, and capitalization. Getting people to pay attention to -grammar- too?! Gah, don't get your hopes up.
As someone who speaks English as second language, I can understand when players make honest spelling/grammar mistakes because they're not fully fluent in English. I mean, one of the primary reasons I started RPing was because I thought it'd be a fun way to improve my writing skills, and when I started, I used to make many stupid mistakes!
That being said, there are also people who simply refuse to TRY to type clearly, spell properly, use punctuation, or correct grammar. Those people I just avoid, and they're pretty easy to tell apart from the above group. -
Quote:Yup. I think this is as close of an explanation as you could get. I've seen this happen sometimes, and I have to say it makes the sentences really awkward to read for me.I actually have seen this. I take it as... they're trying to leave an opening there so that you can interrupt them. They're not necessarily expecting your "but he doesn't, because...", but they are leaving the statement open-ended so that you can throw your because in there. Provided you're not just being snarky about it and actually ARE trying to interact.
{edit}To answer that second question, the maniac that started the trend was probably someone who does textfighting.
Personally, I think leaving EVERY action open to interruption is a bit of an over-kill. If, on rare occasions and in text-fighting, I wanted to leave a statement open, then I'd just use "tries to" instead of "would". I think it sounds less awkward.
But it's not a biggie, really. -
Quote:...I didn't say anything about being on a team. When on a team, you are not the only person pushing damage powers.
On my current DP/Mind Blaster, I solo at +1/x3, +1/x4, or +2/x3 if I'm feeling brave. I have HoB up every second group and usually by the time HoB finishes, most, if not all, minions are defeated.
Depending on the ammo you choose, your build, and your powers, you may not have the same results. But saying "Often doesn't kill +0 minions" is a very, very, very unrealistic exaggeration on Blaster, and somewhat of a hyperbole on Corruptors and Defenders. This is of course assuming that the players knows how to use/slot HoB effectively.
EDIT: I just looked over my build in Mid's Hero Planner, and with Concentration, I'm doing 555 Lethal damage with HoB. And that's excluding the Fire effect from Incendiary Ammo. This is more than enough for most minions. At the very least, it's more than enough for +0 minions. Granted, I do have a 28% Damage bonus from IO Sets and Assault, but that should leave the average Dual Pistols Blaster at around 490-520; which is still more than enough for +0 minions. -
Playing a certain Archetype isn't a 'chore' or 'responsibility'.
It's not set in stone what each AT should do. It is hinted what the AT is capable of, but it's up to you on how to utilize it, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise! Do what's fun for you!
If you want to, and can make a Brute that is a part-time Tanker, then do it! If you want to, and can make a Brute that is a part-time Stalker, then do it! If you want to, and can make a Brute that is a part-time Controller...do it! -
Quote:Often doesn't kill +0 minions?!?!HoB goes off, often doesn't kill +0 minions and makes them very angry.
I'm hoping you're saying that due to lack of Build Up on Corruptors/Defenders, if not....whaaaaaa!?!??!?!! And even then...SERIOUSLY?!
I kill EVERY +2 minion EVERY time with HoB on my Blaster! Unless it's like...some special faction with minions that have high S/L resistance!
Every time I cast HoB in a full +2/x8, things just fall dead around me! Do you have enhancements in HoB? xD -
How about we just come to the realization that City of Heroes/Villains is a video game based on fiction and comic-book science, and that everyone is entitled to their own interpretations of it?!
It's just a game, people... -
Quote:One of the 'original purposes' of AE was to provide an alternative, viable way of leveling up characters. They've been actively removing everything from the AE that ISN'T meant for its 'original purpose'.
Admit it, the 'original purpose' is not for you to farm.
Admit it. How many characters have you leveled up using Architect Entertainment's genuine arcs, without farming and power leveling? -
I'm not saying it's a failed feature because it induces exploits. In my opinion, it is a failure because it is, as it stands, far away from it's original intent and purpose, and that it has done a lot more harm than good in a cost vs. benefit analysis, as a whole.

Holy walls of text, batman!
On a related note, responding to the original post and the original post only, I've never played a hero who was being played in City of Villain.
However, I -have- played many villains who were being played in City of Heroes. And I'm talking genuine villain; not just "gray area" stuff.
Why? I guess I'm just an evil person! Beyond that, I can't really justify it. I generally dislike goody-two-shoes character in fiction, and if I were to follow "da rulez", I would really dislike City of Heroes.
Besides. Think about it this way. If everyone in villain-ville was a baby-eating, world-dominating, candy-stealing villain, and everyone in hero-ville was a cape-wearing, smooth-talking, death-defying hero...that'd be pretty darn boring, wouldn't it? That is what "da rulez" say. Those are the genres the developers of this game were aiming for. And on their own, they seem very bland to me!
