Two: Stories don't really win the Creative Genius, so I've no incentive to post in here, when the RP forum is a more logical place to post them. I think the closest story so far that's come to winning in recent months was FFM's 'The Diary' in November.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Fiction can and has won the Creative Genius award in the past. Personally, I'd like to see more fiction winners, but very little seems to get nominated these days.

    IC rumours

I've just removed a section of this thread, as I was concerned that it was heading in an unpleasant direction.

Let's try to focus on the point of the thread, rather than discussions of what constitutes a rumour. If you don't like someone's idea or the way it's presented, you're under no obligation to incorporate it into your own play.
  3. Okay, locking this while we decide on the winner.

The next Creative Genius will be announced this week!
  4. [ QUOTE ]
Notice I didnt mention any names in my original post, this is not meant to be flame bait.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Perhaps not, but I don't really see what useful purpose the thread serves, either.

If you want to discuss this matter with the other player involved, the public boards are not the best place to do so.

If you want to discuss the relative usefulness of TI, you could do so without the example provided. Something along these lines: "How important does everyone think that TI is to the Invulnerability set? Is it a 'must have', a 'maybe' or a 'can safely be ignored'?"

Ultimately, though, a player's build is up to them. Even if everyone else thinks that TI is a 'must-have' and that a character with Invulnerability would be mad not to take it, a player doesn't have to take the power if they don't want to.

In this specific example, I think that not taking TI will make life a lot harder, and that it's just as (if not more) useful at high levels as it is at low levels, but that still doesn't mean that anyone 'has' to take it if for some reason they don't want to.

    ((OOC

    [ QUOTE ]
Well, thank you for that cursory dismissal.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    You're most welcome.))

    [/ QUOTE ]
Okay, enough of this, please. Both of you, please try to avoid being so snippy with each other. It's not helpful or constructive.

Ammon, Raven may not have put a great deal of creative energy into the RP side of things, but that doesn't necessarily make his concerns about the wording of the original post any less valid. The use of language is extremely important in nearly all roleplaying, and in text-based RP like this, it becomes critical.

I think perhaps the concerns expressed might be clarified by rephrasing the sentence in question to remove the colon, like this:

"For too long, the city has idolized its super-powered citizens and ignored the real heroes in the city, those being the regular people who fight without the benefit of any super-powers, relying solely on human spirit and heart, to make the city work."

Does that make the concerns (and their validity) any clearer?
  6. [ QUOTE ]
    Hmm.. Interesting question there.

Bridger, are entrants from mine and SG's competition elligable for Creative Genius?

    [/ QUOTE ]
That is an interesting question, and one I hadn't considered.

My first reaction is that I don't see why not. I'll have a think about it, but unless you hear different from me, assume that they can be nominated.
  7. Welcome to the nominations for February's Creative Genius!

Please use this thread to nominate submissions for the Creative Genius award for the month of February 2007.

Please be sure to familiarise yourself with the guidelines for the Creative board and the Creative Genius competition before making any nominations - you can read them here.

These nominations will remain open until 6pm GMT on Monday 12 March. The winner will be announced later in that week.

To nominate a submission, please post a link to the appropriate post.

There are some important rules to bear in mind when making nominations:
<ul type="square">[*]You may only nominate one submission. If you nominate more than one submission, only the first one will count.[*]You may not nominate your own submissions.[*]Nominated submissions must have been originally posted to this board during February 2007.[*]All original submissions first posted to these boards in February 2007 are eligible for nomination, regardless of what form they take.[*]Only nominated submissions will be considered for the Creative Genius award.[*]If no nominations are received, there will be no Creative Genius award for February 2007.[*]If you have any comments, questions or suggestions, please post them to The Creative Board and Creative Genius. This thread should only be used for nominations, and any off-topic posts will be removed.[/list]Happy nominating!

Alterations then have been made to the SG since my orginal post.

In game, the SG is known as TW - Paragon City Division to avoid any legal backlash.

Website and forum address remains the same however as both are outside of the game, and have there own legal disclaimers attached to them.

    [/ QUOTE ]
If the backstory of the SG or any of the characters in it still refer to the show, it'll still be a EULA violation.

My suggestion, if you want to set up this kind of SG, is to come up with your own 'secret' organisation in the City of Heroes world. Being inspired by someone else's ideas is fine - a straight copy (even if the name is abbreviated) is still a EULA violation.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
If you want to take your ball and go home, fine. Your loss.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Okay, enough. Both of you.

I thought you have been continually 'talking down' to me..

    [/ QUOTE ]

hell no, that's browbeating. (according to weasel, anyway) .

    [/ QUOTE ]

If you beat someone's brow enough, they'll eventually be reduced in height, so you couldn't help talking down to them

    [/ QUOTE ]
I think that's quite enough for one thread, please, GG.

    [ QUOTE ]

If the event is to take place in a PvP zone, you should also take into account the fact that other players may be using the zone, and it's perfectly reasonable for players in a PvP zone to engage other players they encounter in PvP.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I dont know should the RV AV hunts be declared a special case or not. It takes multiple teams of people on one side to even attempt beating the AVs, and on the other side all the opposing side needs to do is gain control of one pillbox (can do it easily solo) and the AVs will despawn and the beating AVs is foiled. And you got an awful lot of angry people on one side.

    [/ QUOTE ]
While I understand the desire to earn badges, the signature characters in RV were designed to compliment the PvP, not to replace it.

If you want to fight the signature characters, you'll need to make sure your side is winning the current battle for the zone - and that may mean defending pillboxes from characters on the opposing side.
  12. Okay, I've just had to remove a few posts from this thread.

For those who are unaware, reposting chat logs on these boards is generally a bad idea. It nearly always breaks the rules governing 'calling out' or 'naming and shaming' other players on these boards, and serves no useful purpose, as such logs are simple text files that are the easiest thing in the world to fake or modify. Posting one proves nothing.

On a related note, if you encounter verbal abuse or other unpleasant behaviours from other players, whether in a PvP zone or anywhere else in-game, please /petition immediately. Never respond in kind, no matter what the situation.

Sending a /petition will directly help our GMs to cut down on the frequency of this kind of thing. Complaining about it on these boards may be cathartic, but unfortunately it's unlikely to change the behaviour of the players who are breaking the rules.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
Just to clarify then, if your in a PvP zone your fair game.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Yes, as is made quite clear by the in-game warnings you receive when entering such a zone.

    [ QUOTE ]
Purposefully setting out to stop an event in a PvP zone is also fair game but not everyone will like it and thats tough on them. You can either let them have their way and leave the zone or block all communication and continue anyway safe in the fact you are not insulting anyone or doing a petitionable offense. Just be prepared for them stopping you have your fun in stopping them having theirs.

    [/ QUOTE ]
This would depend on the situation. In general, though, players don't have the right to take over an entire zone for their personal use, whether it's for an organised event or not.

I would strongly recommend that anyone organising some kind of event take the time to consider the impact that their event will have on other players, the impact that other players may have on the event, and how best to deal with these situations.

If the event is to take place in a PvP zone, you should also take into account the fact that other players may be using the zone, and it's perfectly reasonable for players in a PvP zone to engage other players they encounter in PvP.

If you want to fight specific people without the risk of being interrupted by other players, that's what the Arena is for.

In any and all cases, running an event does not give anyone the right to violate the EULA or associated Code of Conduct that all players agree to abide by when starting the game.
  14. The Creative Genius for January 2007 is Catz for the three character sketches of:

    Chiefette
    Moonshade
    Healing Spirit

    Congratulations, Catz.
  15. Guys, I'm gald to see that this thread seems to be clawing its way back towards civility, so can we please try to keep it that way?

    Thanks.

    Prestige

    [ QUOTE ]
Hey guys, isn't it about time you credited people who collect prestige and sacrifice infuence, Geez I just got one million with one of my alts Ecilef and what do I get? A pat on the shoulder by SG team. Everyone laughs at those that get prestige because apart from the Sg, it means nothing thanks to you. About time you recognised this and addressed the fact. Can you imagine how much one million prestige would be if it were influence for one alt? Give credit where credit is due. It's about time.

    [/ QUOTE ]
As well as having nothing to do with the Tanker AT, this sounds like something that you should discuss with your SG.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
There is no GM counter attacks, and you are all a bunch of n00bs if you think this is a more important task, than doing what you are supposed to. CLEARING MITOS.

    [/ QUOTE ]
There's really no need for this. Please consider your posts more carefully in future. Thanks.
  18. Thanks for the nominations, everyone. Locking this now while we pick the winner.
  19. Bridger_EU

    Pictures!

As clearly explained in the sticky threads at the top of the board, the Creative board is intended to provide a place for players of City of Heroes and Villains to share their own creative works with the community.

It's not intended to share random links, so I'm locking this.

    Farmless RV

oh pls shut up Tylmantia....actually thought we had gotten rid of that stupid drivel this time...unfortunately not.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Enough, please. I honestly can't tell if this is an attack or a joke, which means that others reading the thread might not be able to, either.
  21. Welcome to the nominations for the first Creative Genius of 2007!

Please use this thread to nominate submissions for the Creative Genius award for the month of January 2007.

Please bear in mind that we've recently updated the guidelines for the Creative board and the Creative Genius competition - you can read them here.

These nominations will remain open until 6pm GMT on Monday 12 February. The winner will be announced later in that week.

To nominate a submission, please post a link to the appropriate post.

There are some important rules to bear in mind when making nominations:

  22. Okay, I just had to remove several posts from this thread.

If you can't find it in yourself to congratulate a fellow player on hitting 50 (regardless of your personal feelings towards them), please don't post to a thread that exists solely to mark that achievement.

Likewise, if someone does violate the Message Board rules and guidelines or otherwise behaves in an objectionable manner, do not respond in kind. Report the post to me, and I will deal with it.

I don't want to see any more of this nonsense from either side, whether in this thread or elsewhere on the boards. If you don't like someone, have the good sense to simply avoid and/or ignore them.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
bridger thats the first time you have ever replied to a reply, infact thats beaten my record of 2 emails i sent to you of which you didnt reply either, glad to see your hearin is without prejudice..

    [/ QUOTE ]
Unless you are using multiple email addresses, I have only ever received one mail from you, which I replied to.

Your mail was sent at 6.31pm on Friday 12 January. At that time, I had already left the office, and so didn't see the mail until the following week. I replied at 10.25am on Monday 15 January.

However, none of this is really of interest to anyone else. If you have a complaint or concern about me or my performance in my role as Community Coordinator, please feel free to email me.

Please don't try to get members of your team killed - it won't help matters and could leave you open to being /petitioned for griefing.

If a member of a team is causing problems or behaving in an unwelcome fashion, the leader of the team should politely ask them to stop. If the player doesn't, the team leader should politely make it clear that if they continue to behave in this fashion, they will be kicked from the team.

If your team leader isn't willing to do this, I would suggest that the simplest and easiest thing to do is to leave the team yourself.

If at any time the 'problem player' becomes abusive or otherwise violates the EULA, /petition and then /ignore them.

Oh, and katinas1, bad language is against the rules on these boards, and that includes words with '*' instead of letters. If you don't feel your point is strong enough without swearing, try to think of a better way to phrase it.

    Thanks.

    Fusion Generator

I'll try to check on the status of this issue.

In the meantime, if you feel that something is bugged, please report it with the /bug command, but bear in mind that you won't generally receive an response - /bug reports go to our QA team, who will only contact you if they need further information in order to investigate the problem.

I'm afraid that our GMs cannot generally grant rewards that are missing due to a bug.

I'm afraid there's not a lot more I can say right now without finding out more about this issue. As I said, I'll do my best to do that.
