You don't collect prestige for yourself but for your SG base. Plus, one day playing a L40+ char out of SG mode will give you enough influence to support any alt.
The only individual prize you should get from collecting large amounts of prestige is a badge (and I'm no badge hore).

Although i run my own SG ec, i say to em ur choice when your inf starts to decline.
We do mishes on our 50's to give the lower ones inf n stuff.
I think the amount of prestige earned should be majorally increased.
