But that game sucks with gameplay mechanics. You only need 2 or 3 attacks you hit all the time, and gets BORING. Animations are crunky and the characters looks like The Incredibles.
Customization is awesome but CoH is still far better than that other game.

    Things would rock for CoH?:
If our characters could move while attacking.
Faster response for powers and movement.
Faster redraw, no animation and activation time for toogles.
More points for costume pieces in the model.
    Animated faces, hair and fingers.
More, new and revamped power pools and APPs,PPPs with customization.

But that would be major changes that implies a lot of work and overhaul of the game mechanics and numbers.
I don't know if I agree with CO having better and more complete customization.

CO lacks an X Eyes mask and lacks Large Boots, something I found really dissappointing in their costume creator.

Not to mention, it had some pieces that couldn't be used with other pieces and for the life of me I couldn't figure out why (different fingerless style gloves that worked with one group but not another)

As it stands, with all three passives, you'll hit 60% dam-res at faceplant with the scaling starting at <60% health. They could have it begin at 70% health with 1 change. They could set it at 75% so that the scrappers would hit their dam-res cap right as they faceplant.

Will they do this? Maybe, if a strong enough case can be made for it.
Just curious. But even with a +HP power, wouldn't SR then just be be better on Brutes anyways, as they'll always have higher HP.

Not saying it's a bad buff idea, but like you said, you partly rerolled to Brute for the more HP (my guess is the other part is aggro aura).

So would the buff have people going "Hmmm...Scrapper or Brute" or still "YAY BRUTES!"

Basically, something I'm thinking that would be interresting, is if they rolled the AOE into the Range, and then gave each AT something unique to them to really spice them up. Something that caters to each AT that stays within the theme of the set.

The fantasy is in the execution, not the concept. Little kids didn't used to dress up like Superman to pretend to be protected by him: They did it to pretend to be him. The fantasy is in the idea that anyone could have been selected to be a Lantern. The fantasy is with the idea that despite how much of a 'loser' Peter Parker has been made out to be he ended up (for 20 years anyways) with a supermodel wife.

Regardless, the broad topic at hand is the oversexed portrayal of both genders in comics. That has nothing to do with the origin of the characters or the background of the characters and everything to do with the portrayal of the characters, so we should stick to your first assertion: It's all because of bad art.

Who is a good modern artist? What makes them good? How do they avoid the 'bad art' pitfall? How are their men and women portrayed?
    Some people like the art.

Really, whether or not you like the art is going to be a judgement call. Personally, I hate reading comics where the artist is the type to have the realistic approach. I've yet to see one with that style that made me think "Oh yeah! The art is great!"

I'd think the reason less women read comics is not because of the way they're drawn, and more with the medium and subject matter.

Face it. American comics are considered for kids and usually more specifically little boys.

    It's no different than cartoons.

You can have the main character be a female, dressed in what all the detractors consider sensible clothing, and it wouldn't change that.

The ones doing the complaining are generally within certain groups of people who are just looking for reasons to call attention to whatever cause they're on about.

Look at that outfit! Not sensible at all for fighting against an evil wizard! And it shows off her belly. And her figure is totally exagerrated! She basically has a female comic book hero body (okay the breasts aren't Ds-DDs).

Yet doesn't get nearly the flak (if any. I havent heard any, but I'm sure someone has complained) and look, little girls like it.

It's not what superheroes are dressed in. It's not that comics are sexist (this doesnt mean there aren't sexist people in the industry). It comes down to the opinions of people and imparting those opinions on others.

Notice how they can say comics are sexist, this is the reason women don't read them, but women will enjoy the superhero movies?

    Yeah.

Here's another image of not the typical body female (and I can only guess at what people consider typical) and fighting in an outfit that doesn't make sense for fighting in.

Of course, this is all about how women are drawn/dressed in such a medium. As for how they're portrayed in personality, that's a different subject.

*sigh* What did they do to Starfire? I'm not going to say there can't be a character like the current Starfire in comics, but I really wish they'd have just created a new character for instead.
  5. Before I was skeptical but knew I was going to see it anyways.

    Now...now...I'M EXCITED!
  6. It needs a longhair style of the female club hair style!
  7. Temporal Fighter for the temporal energy perceiving/manipulator. Sadly, everytime I reroll I have to wait till lvl 40 (I believe) to get it.
  8. Having been on beta, it's looking to become Staff Fighting.

Dual Pistols! I love it so! I just wish it didn't feel so low on damage compared to the other blast sets I've used.

Time Manipulation! Only the low almost unnoticable -Regen makes me sad with this set. And I just love Chrono Shift's animation. Really need a melee version of this set just for that animation alone!

Agreed. I checked out the newest competitor in superhero MMOs the other day. Has checked it out before of course and did it again, with no real motive to play it, just to go back and look over the graphics to see if they were as bad as I remember.

Okay, the art style isn't to terrible really. But it lacks. it lacks on so many degrees!

No body/chest/waist/leg sliders! All the faces look the same! Very limited starting costumes...and I don't mean limiting as CoH is now, I mean way more limiting than either the original competitor or CoH when it opened up!

Sure, it has some great costume pieces, but they're so limited (at least from the start) it's just sad. :/

But reading this thread, I can't help but think any upgrade would just go to waste. Personally, if they could put in the upgrade, keep the content, but had to start over from level 1, I'd still be all over it.

Sadly, it seems quite a few of the players out there would be all "I quit" over having to start over from lvl 1 on any character, even if it meant getting some of the things they've wanted forever.
  10. If I could start my character in primal, and then take her to Praetoria and do all those missions as either a resistance member or loyalist (undercover or as a turncoat who will obviosuly have to about face back to siding with primal...which im okay with) I'd rerun those arcs and likely avoid the DFB Trial.

One of the things that killed Praetoria, was allowing any AT to become a hero/villain.

If time has shown us anything, it's that most players will go the path of least resistance.

Fastest time to the next level? Any AT? That's what the majority of players want.

Now, I'd start my character in Praetoria and not need a way to go to Praetoria from Primal with a new hero, except, I want it known my character is Primal through the badges. I want my character to go through those same starting arcs, I don't need new ones, I just want to more easily say "Primal hero making these choices."

As for First Ward, still don't think my main would make some of those choices.
  11. I really have no idea how difficult the cut scenes are to make. But something to maybe consider is for the devs to make more/longer cutscenes for these SSA's and then have them be like the cut scene in the BAF, if everyone on the team has seen it once, then it doesn't show again.

I have no problem filling in the gaps, but then I know the Freedom Phalanx isn't suppossed to be filled with a bunch of incompetents.

I know the story enough to know that the Freedom Phalanx is suppossed to be the top SG in the world and they're that way for a reason.

Sadly, I don't seem to be in the majority. I don't need it spelled out for me. I'm willing to accept this. While I do prefere to have great writing, I also understand they likely have limitations to how much of the story they can show off (without player moaning about to much dialogue/cutscenes) or possibly that they're writers just aren't that great (not saying the current writers are terrible) and maybe havent done any research.

Of course, part of me thinks they're trying to turn some of the heroes into messes just for the hell of it.

Something else they may consider, is giving the players a comic book in game for the major story arcs.

Load map, then get the option to enter the map or read the comic to give some details, and then possibly another comic on the way out of the mission.

Could draw the comic in such a way as to have it at your character's perspective when needed.

But then it goes back to the whole, is it worth it question. Even more so when you have players who want the story to be all about them, they're the greatest and the story should always reflect that, nevermind that there's thousands of other players who think the same thing.

Easy in a single player game, harder to do when in a game with thousands of players.
  12. My main and namesake, is ageless, so it lets me keep her right where I want her. 16ish. So even if time passes by, she stays looking 16 as she's meant to be much like a comic book character, she doesn't actually age 1 year for every 1 RL year. Though, being in an RP SG with people who do age their characters, it sometimes makes that difficult.

Of course, she's also a clone, so her actual life span doesn't match with her age anyways.

A secondary character of mine was 11 (or 12) when he started and has aged up to the point of being 16 now. He will stop aging at about 21 though as well, but he's practically immortal anyways. I've even had him gain height from then and now.

Some of my other characters would likely age as time went on. Not bothering me any, but then they're not my main. But I also tend to go the route of some reason they age slowly anyways, just so I don't deal with aging them.

No. The building crit chance is on Assassin's Strike only, not Concentrated Strike (which is the tier 9).

Placate + Concentrated Strike or having the Stalker ATO proc go off + Concentrated Strike will recharge Build Up, meaning that KM can maintain Build Up for a very high uptime and easily stack it (BU->CS from Hide->BU), and it's incredible with a Gaussian's for potential triple-stacking. I didn't pick it up on beta but some reports in the Stalker feedback thread said that the ATO proc was going off in Assassin's Strike often enough to generate a perma-BU attack chain - that's probably a bug.
Not so sure, at least, no so sure with my attack chain if it's a bug. My chain is a 10 second Chain (little longer when refrshing BU), as such, it's more likely to have the proc go off for the chain.

4 times a minute I believe. Then when that proc doesn't go off, CS has it's chance to proc on it's own anyways.

Makes it easier to keep the BU going on.

How about *consistent* graphics from one zone to the next?

And yes, I have to agree that the character models, more than anything, need updating. The COH team has done quite a bit, but - well, I see several games with people running around in full robes/dresses, characters with fingers, characters with more facial choices (separating eye color from facial type, for instance, giving options on scars/tattoos and their placement, giving us fairly realistic looking skin as opposed to plastic, etc.)

    Oh, and

... is just a silly argument. Of COURSE COH 2 would have to be around for six years to have six years of content when it launched. NO MMO launches with all its content. COH (and COV) didn't even get you to 50 when they launched - they stopped at 40. Why does COH have eight years of content? Because it's been around *eight years.*

I mean, that's like complaining that if you had a kid, they wouldn't be born a working, self supporting adult. Well, *duh.*
As long as the art style isn't changed for the characters, Im okay with a graphic update if it means coloring the eyes and all that.

Really don't want to lose the style of the art, or the sliders (which the other two competitors lack compared to CoH imo...one more than the other)

Yes, There are newer and flashier ways to do things.

But, do we really need to?

I agree that will happen eventually. And when that time comes, I'll judge it based upon it's merits and make my decision then. Until we know for a fact that it's coming around, I'll just enjoy what we have.
I always figured they wanted some things streamed lined, the war walls removed, the population consolidated into one (no blueside/redside), combinging smashing and lethal damage into physical damage, a good way to see some sets improved, and basically a good way to see some improvements in alternate animations.

that said, I'm not sure if CoH2 would go over well, because there seems to be to many people who are against having to level a character again
