Don't know how many packs I opened, but I had all the costume pieces before I finished opening the 24 packs.

I was actually more worried about getting the Wolf Pet. I have no desire for it, so I was all "Don't be unlucky and get that wolf!"
  2. Are we just not able to convert AIOs yet?
  3. YAY! Chaps for my main! WHooot!

I already have all three packs, so now it's just getting MORE!
  4. Really? You want to give Stalkers a shield that badly, you'd go with the idea that, you're attacking people from the shadows with a shield?

Do you just try to hit the on the head really hard for the Assassin Pummel?

Also since it would be made available to Scrappers will we beable to dual wield shields?

But like has been said, the devs are very lienent on what you make, as what they want is for you to play and spend money.

that's why if you ask a dev, "Can I make so and so's child" they'll say yes (and have). That tends to be one of those RP comminity no-no's, but it isnt a rule of CoH itself.

I wouldn't go that far, as it seemed more aimed at the RP community.

I'd say it's more akin to wanting to make his fanfiction canon (and fanfiction doesnt have to have an original character in it, but can have a non-original character be the surrogat character of the writer).

  9. I recall a survey being done, that I believe had every woman surveyed saying the same thing, "No pants for Wonder Woman"

Admittedly it was done at a con, so that could be why, as it's a group of people who'd attend a con.

Not to mention, in Teen Titans animated, Raven wore a leotard and Starfire wore a miniskirt.

My point being, why does everyone assume it's the costumes that keep the female readers away, and not 1) how they're being written 2) social stigma (face it, comics are still considered a kid/male geek/nerd/what have you, type of deal).

It's going to take more than getting female artists/writers to change that.

Really, I have to wonder, how many people actually care about the gender of the writer/artist? I don't. I care about whether I like the writing/art period.

So you not only want to take over a character, but drastically change the character into the popular but wrong joke? Does that make it worse?

Some people have defended the OP by comparing his adjustment of canon (and it is adjustment, have no doubt of that, since canon is what the devs tell us it is and nothing more) with the work of Dark Respite (a writer for whom I have great respect, for a number of reasons that aren't relevant here). The simple difference is that at no point has DR tried to convince anyone that TCoSR (and sequels) is canonical. It's at worst like an alternate reality version of events, things that could have happened, and we can take it or leave it. The OP is stating as fact that his versions of characters are true (even when in flat contradiction to canon).

I make characters who exist in the world of City of Heroes. My main has been suggested to have some sort of hate/hate relationship with Ms. Liberty, for example. But I have not once claimed that any of my characters are somehow "more canonical" than any others. I have never taken a canon character and claimed it as my own. Why? Because, even fitting in with canon, I have more creative freedom to write my own characters than to borrow someone else's.

Roleplaying as Marcus Cole, or Dr Vahzilok, or Bentley Berkeley, or a made-up demon lord who is somehow master of all demons and the effective creator of the Circle of Thorns is simply lazy. Can't come up with a character concept of my own, so I'll borrow a character that already exists and "expand" on them. A thousand and one Drizzt Do'urden clones all sniggered at the very thought.

It's weak, poor writing, and poor roleplaying, where the greatest kudos one person can give another is to say "I really like your character". Except it's not yours.

And that is the point of the "hatred". Make your own character that fits within the canon material we have been provided. Don't believe that you have the right to say "history happened this way, actually", and expect everyone else to agree.
And if DV kept their idea out of an open RP community, I really wouldn't see anything wrong with it.

He wants to role up some carbon copy character and say this is how his story is going. I see no problem with it.

Putting it into as fact for all the community, well, just no. It's as bad as those who claim longbow go about attacking innocent civilians or that MAGI vault is robbed every day.

One of the reasons I'm glad the tutorial was changed for redside

See. That's the difference I spoke of.

You're story is one people accept because it's not trying to make it part of a giant RP community. Which DV was trying (or seemed to be) to do.

If it was tried, I'd expect it to be laughed out, unless it's just a matter of "Well we like this person" then it's just being silly and they might as well accept all fan lore as canon when used in the open RP community.

Now thats true. DR's lore seems to be solely based in her own private RP. The type I suggested to DV to keep that type of storyline in.

Though DR has seemed to try to make her's canon.

DarkRespites's story still does what everyone was complaining about.

Whether it's good or not, is going to be a matter of opinion.

City of Heroes's lore was NOT created just for fething idiots like you to come in and RUIN IT with your horrid fan canon. If you RPed within a close knit circle of friends and kept the fan canon off the forums? This sort of thing wouldn't happen, just saying.

If you want to be a part of the game? BE ORIGINAL.

The Devs love us, yes. But they love the SUBSCRIBERS, not us as Roleplayers. They look to make the PAYING SUBSCRIBERS happy with content. Yes, a number of the subscribers are roleplayers. But the Devs look to keep us in the game with content.

Some of them may like the RPers, but they didn't exactly go about saying 'Hey, go **** with the CoH's lore!'.

It is people like you, DV, that make me lose hope for humanity.
Other players post or link to their fan canon without the flak.
  18. At least Starfire's new outfit is pretty close to her original one. It's just the character that changed to much.

Wasn't think of AE story arcs. I was thinking more of players written stories.

And really, you're right, the devs have no problem with you using their canon the way you have. So any player saying otherwise is lying.

I've known more than one person who's asked if they could make so and so's child as a character and been given the affirmative (and why wouldn't they, the devs want you to play).

What you don't seem to understand (or refuse to), is from a community RP standpoint, your idea fails. Which is what I've been trying to tell you.

You could of wrote the best storyline ever and left people in tears or livid with joy, but trying to make it part of everyone's canon in open RP community fails.

Now, while I'm not sure if they're still around, and I don't recall the SGs, I do believe there was a coalition of SGs on Blueside, that only RPed within their collective, very likely so they could do stories such as yours, and also keep out the stories they as a group didn't care for.

Actually, that story isn't bad (or at least the idea of it).

It's problem is that it seems to expect everyone to follow it.

What's even more funny about this, is people like other stories that mess with canon and tend to be known amongst the forum goers, and does exactly what that poster did, but they're accepting it, and seem to often call for it to be made canon.

I know you gotten some flak for your post. And then when people tell you why, you resort to calling them "WoWTards" but let me show you why you got the flak.

See that quoted part of your post above? You just said Virtue. An entire server.

As I stated earlier, and maybe others could of said better. If you want to go that route with your character, it's best to leave it to a character that isn't into the RPing with Virtue as a whole, character.

That type of storyline is for a a group of RPers who keep themselves in an enclosed circle, and who are willing to say "Okay, this character discovered this and these characters did this." ect ect.

When RPing in an open community such as all of Virtue. That type of story just doesn't work. This is also why I believe you see the canon stories play out such as they do.

The writers just can't account for all the different player characters and their characters motives.

The second most important rule is: Any build, any budget, no exclusions.
    Pretty much this.

I've only broken that rule twice, in so much as I've only kicked two people from TFs for just annoying me to no end.

Only felt bad about it on the first one though. The second one not so much. >_>

Take a look at Lord Recluse, for instance. Yes, Arachnos as a whole do some very, very bad things that, when you get down to them, will make your skin crawl. But Recluse himself? Everything any story of his comes up, it always focuses on the ways in which he's awesome and glosses over the ways in which he's repugnant.

He's powerful, both personally and in terms of followers. He's smart, enough to usurp and run his own villain organisation, to say nothing of his own sovereign state. Every time his name comes up, it's treated with either respect and admiration or respect and fear, and every time his name makes a splash. Daos and Mako and Brass and the others may be trying to play their little games and chase their little agendas, but every time Recluse gets involved, everyone shuts up and listens because he IS the big guy in the isles.

That's the kind of villain I want to be - the cool kind. If that doesn't involve murder, kidnapping, selling people for body parts, murdering civilians and so forth, then so be it. I want a villain with a cause above and beyond being evil, and whose character is expressed in more than the evil he or she does. The kind of villain I want to be is defined by his dreams and aspirations, not his body count or his penchant for cruelty. Those are, ultimately, just means to an end. What that end is defines what kind of villain we're dealing with, and most of what's out there for player villains is vastly underwhelming.

Mind you, it's not underwhelming because it's not "evil" enough. It's plenty evil. It's underwhelming because "evil" is all it is.
As my government and economics teacher said "Shock effect sells."

That said, with the right player (btw I'm not saying I'm such a player) that vile evil OMGWTF villain can be played quite well.

I have a SG member who can do it very well. What many lack when playing such a character is giving them a personality beyond those vile acts.
