Skip SoW, you won't miss it. Especially if you're going for an expensive build, like you said.
I had SoW on my (first) DB/WP and on my BS/WP and there was not a single occasion that I remember, where SoW actually helped my toons on their way to L50. Whenever I ran into a situation where I needed the support of a tier 9 god mode power, SoW simply wasn't good enough to make a difference and let me survive.

But if the mobs start pounding hard enough, I find clicking it helps stem the tide and can stop you from reaching that sliver of life in the last place.

Mind you, one of my favorite things to do in CoH is run the ITF...and even with IOs they (Cims) can eat up a WP scrapper, if given enough of them.

Quote:Yeah. But I wouldn't say that's all DE has going for it.Well...there are a lot of boobs in it, at least the first season.

To me, it's sorta the DOAX2 of anime. Kinda. If you squint.

To me it's more like...hey we have this great story, great characters...now...let's draw them with big boobs!

You know...like some comicbooks out there.

But like I said, season 2 only improves on season 1, but you can't really watch season 2 without watching season 1.

+1 Divergence Eve (Season 1) & Divergence Eve: The Misaki Chronicles (Season 2)

Just got done watching the series. Actually had been wanting to check it out since I read about it in New Type...long long ago.

From other reviews I've read...I got mixed reviews...liked it (to varing degrees) or wrote it off as fan service.

Does it have fan service. Yes. It's rated 14 and Up. However, no full nudity.

 I loved it.

The CGI animations of it where lacking, but they were very few. The drawn animation was great!

Definently need to watch the second season after watching the 1st. Which is why I think DE gets some bad reviews. It just gets more intense in the second season, but you need to watch the 1st season (which I enjoyed), to get the 2nd season.

2nd season also does less of the fanservice.

Well, this is probably a poor review...but for me, for sure...+1.

Oh, and I'd classify it as SciFi/Thriller/Drama...so where ever you'd put it on the list.

Quote:No, that would be insane. I wouldn't recommend that

 Well that's good to hear.

I can say as a brute, I wasn't really capable of taking Alphas for groups (which is pretty much expected of brutes, and I'd stop playing them if this wasn't part of their role) until I began getting +DEF to SM/L - specifically from IO sets. The amount provided by willpower and powerpools (weave, combat jumping) wasn't enough.

You're right, I did misread it. I've gone back and reread what you wrote originally.

I'm not worried about the defense disparity between a brute and tanker. I'm focused on how Willpower tankers fare against cascading defense failure.

So these are my (honest) questions:- Can a WP tanker with high to capped HP & massive regen survive once their defenses have crashed?
- Can they do it without SoW, without Inspirations?

I expect the answer to number 2 to be no, but if it's yes I'll be pleased.

That seems to be answering what I'm looking for.

So effectively, massed romans with -def debuffs pose no threat?

I think that's a typo and you're saying you do in fact think that's a considerable amount.

I personally disagree specifically regarding S/L, and that the vast majority of your +DEF vs. S/L is going to come from Power Pools and IOs. So Defense vs. S/L is not a major part of the Willpower secondary itself.

I stand corrected. It's such a minimal amount that it went unnoticed.

I agree, every set has problem enemies.

Except that not all problem enemies are equal.

 - def debuffs are everywhere, and are heavily represented across many enemy types throughout the game.

The Rularuu exist in game in an extremely limited capacity. You can play SR and actively avoid fighting them with ease. Avoiding content with -def debuffs on the other hand would be extremely limiting.

I think I see less of a problem with willpower as a set, and perhaps it's just the state of cascading defense failure. Or for that matter how +DEF or -DEF can pretty much make or break almost any melee character, regardless of what your powerset actually focuses on.

 Thanks for the reply.
Before I scrapped it for it's IOs (it was a WP/EM Tanker...and I hated the changes to EM)...my WP/EM stood up to anything in the ITF with no problem.

This was an unfinished IO build tanker.

Tough/Weave taken. CJ taken. +3% Steadfast IO, taken. Less than 100 HP shy of the HP cap. Didn't even have all the +Defense bonuses yet.

The tank stood up to anything in the ITF, no problem. Ran it on INV difficulty with full teams, and survived everything.

Tough/Weave made a big difference. Before Tough/Weave I had the HP, but I was being outlasted on the ITF by softcapped SR scrappers! :/

 Tough/Weave...woot!

Even tanked LR in the STF, with just inspirations...no defender hovering close by healing me. No debuffs on Romi. Just my tank, inspirations, and the Tier 9.

Don't skip the Tier 9. That power will save you. You won't use it much, and might think it's a waste to have. But there will be times you will wish you took it. And for obvious reasons. It's a great power. It's a great power.
-
Quote:There is no Tier 9 that can be made Perma. It's impossible. In my neverending quest to make a god I was wondering what ATs can almost make their god mode permanent with the right build and investing in IOs. I am assuming the most likely canidates are Elec Armor and SR ATs with natural recharge powers plus Hasten.

What builds can almost Perma their god mode or at least have their god mode up for 50% of the time in battle ? I am not just looking at Melee ATs but others as well that get God Mode powers in their Ancillarys/Patrons. What Ats and build are they and how can near Permagod mode be achieved ? Is it worth it ?

 Thanks

Either their recharge is to high, even if you're at the recharge cap, or they are uneffected by +RCH (One with the Shield & Strength of Will).

As for a god mode toon. Do you just mean survivable to no end, or do you mean can take anything on in this game and win?

For instance, ILL/RAD can solo a GM (as can other combo's or Trollers/Corruptors/MMs/Defenders)...the melee ATs however, can't.

*Note: Okay, maybe the low level Giant Monsters, like Kronos in Perez Park.

If you're wanting a OMG, I'm so survivable type of God Mode AT, quite a few can be built for that easy enough (influence/time willing)
-
	Very impressive. Very impressive indeed.

But even after your impressive feat, I still think INV needed those buffs it got. At the very least, the removal of that -defense from using UY. At the very least, the removal of that -defense from using UY.

Quote:Was the oppression of a minority theme getting old? Possibly. However, it always felt rushed to me on the massive amount of mutants they had going.Note "one of the most."

Also, I can respect more what Morrison was trying to do with X-Men by having more mutants crop over the globe. I mean, it's firmly cemented in X-Men lore that mutants are the successors to humanity and more people will start manifesting powers. Actually bringing an element of that into the universe rather than have it as some far off future/alternate reality event was getting old, as was the oppression of a minority theme. X-comics were simply too stagnant.

Now you might be saying, "The comic has been around for 30 years! How was that rushed." but that's not what I mean.

It all of a sudden went from there's so few mutants in the world, to BOOM 1 mutant for every 1000 non-mutants in the world.

Then to add to that, there was alot of them that really werent all that great to begin with (Beak...I mean really...he wasn't that interresting).

And just saying it was a massive mutant gene awakening, is just as lazy as the other stories people are complaining about in this thread.

As for what would replace Conserve Power if/when it gets proliferated? Hrm... tough one. We know the cottage rule is still in effect, so it can't deviate from its original goal too much. If you look at how CP was changed to Energize for the proliferation, it still retains much of its END Discount design. It just cut back some of that and added in the Heal and +Regen.

Since Energy Aura already has a Heal in it, I'd imagine CP in this case would receive the Energize treatment, but would give either a small DEF or RES buff instead of the Heal/+Regen. At least, that's what I'd wish for.

Energy Drain already gives EA a very small heal, I think CP will be replaced bya power that lower END Cost, and grants the user +Resist to All (bar possibly Toxic/Psychic).

Of course, that's what I want/hope for. Could be anything. Could be anything.

Quote:You can disagree all you like, Ghost in the Shell the original movie is on many top anime lists across the web and many Anime Magazines. Check for yourself. That's what I go by, not necessarily personal taste (although I can't rule out personal bias either.)

I disliked the original appleseed, however it is a classic anime. I don't feel Naruto, Bleach or Death Note should be on the list because I personally don't consider these Anime as much as I do pop-culture smutt. They are franchises produced as quickly as possible to make as much profit as possible. They don't have any real semblance of plot (past maybe the first few episodes).

An example of this is the comparision between Dragon Ball and DBZ. One is a great anime series that any anime fan should watch..the other is just a sad attempt at milking a story.
Oh. I wasn't saying GitS: Original Movie, isn't considered a classic. Just that, I would disagree that it's good.

But like I've said, it kept boring me to sleep. Starts out good...and then somewhere in the middle, I'm all...Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

As for such anime's as Naruto. Depends.

I've enjoyed watching every episode of Naruto that went along with the manga. When they did filler episodes, I found those pretty boring for the vast majority of them.

...Thermal Radiation I know. A 50 Fire/Thermal Troller under the belt and a 23/24 Elec/Thermal on the rise.

However, with Dark/Thermal, my problem is Dark Blast.

Should I skip Dark Blast? Life Drain? I don't see many builds using it, but I also want a good ST attack string to go with the AOE chain.

A friend said I should take Dark Pit, but looking at it, I'm just not sure. It's a mag 2 stun, but in the builds I'm seeing, I don't see this power taken either.

Any help on just the Dark Blast side of things, or on the Dark/Thermal combo all together, would be appreciated.
-
Saw it, and mentioned it in my coalition chat if others had seen it. They said yeah, and to bug it. So I did. Havent bothered to see if they responded.

 But it is freaky!
-
	I'll suggest it here again...

I'd love a Blaster Primary (Or Dominator Secondary...and maybe this one more)/Stalker Secondary AT with a Buff/Debuff/Pet/Utility Epic Power Pool.

Ghost in the shell has a rating of (0) Are we nuts?

+5 everything that is ghost in the shell. Amazing writing, incredible music composition, great story, beautifully detailed artwork both in movies and series.

While I love watching Ghost in the Shell: SAC.

The original GitS movie bored me. I bought it when it first came out, yeah, that far back, and I've yet to ever finish as it always puts me to sleep.

 Sooo...

Original Ghost in the Shell Movie -1
Ghost in the Shell: SAC +1

Quote:I'd have to rewatch them to remember for sure. It's been awhile since I've seen the Tenchi series, to know which is which. I enjoyed all the Tenchi movies (and own them), havent seen the Tnechi series yet to buy them. You can't mean Tenchi in Tokyo.

That was just plain horrible and should be stricken from the universe.

The only Tenchi series that were, are Tenchi Muyo (the original 12 ep OVA), Tenchi Universe (the 26 ep tv series), Tenchi Muyo: Ryo-Ohki (the follow up to Tenchi Muyo), and Tenchi Muyo: GXP (another 26 ep series following Seina Yamada set in the Tenchi-verse).

 Eiken?

And yes...Eiken. That's it. *sighs* Waste of time.

	Riddick...DB/WP Brute or Scrapper
Vampire...tough call on this one, it can go so many ways.
Angel...another tough call...especially with color customization...

In fact, I was trying to decide what my new concept (half angel/Half succubus) would be to fit both of those.

I toyed with just looking like a succubus with anglic powers...but then decided I wanted both dark and light powers and ended up with a Dark/Thermal Corr. I think it's working out nicely as she sits at lvl 8 today.
-
+1 for Burst Angel. I just love this anime. Own it as well (plus the 3 volume manga prequel of it). Own it as well (plus the 3 volume manga prequel of it).

+1 Gundam Wing. This still stands as my favorite Gundam series (though from posts on the forums, it doesn't seem to have many fans at times).

+1 Naruto for the non filler episodes. Yes, it has a few non filler episodes I think are great, but for the majority of them...*sigh* Just seem terrible.

 +1 Cowboy Beebop.

+1 Silent Mobius. Now I love this series. I love the characters. Loved the manga (which might skew my view on the anime).

+1 Kiddy Grade. Starts slow, gets better.

+1 Full Metal Alchemist. Love it. Love the movie. Really I wish it didn't end the way it did. :/ Haven't checked out the second go of it however.

+1 Neon Genesis Evangelion. This series, except for the last two episodes, was greatly done imo. I enjoyed it all. And while I still watch the last 2 episodes, it boggles my mind.

+1 Tenchi Muyo/Tenchi Muyo in Tokyo. I believe I got the right ones. Didn't care for, I think it was Tenchi Muyo GPX, but the original OVA and the (i believe) second series of it, I loved.

Personally, I can't recommend Fist of the North Star. I know it's one of the originals Anime's to come to America. But, the art. Most of the anime, I just found myself "meh" to. It had a few good characters, but over all...I just didn't care for it.

+1 Battle Angel Alita. The art, the story, all good imo. I just wish there was more to it (or if there was, I've only seen it up to a certain point).

There's of course more to mentioned, but sadly, I think alot of the one's I'd recommend, would usually get a +1...but I tend to just buy my anime if I don't see it on TV, so before I buy it, I try to get alot of info on it first, before I buy it, to make sure I'm not wasting my money on something I might be disappointed in.

There's also one that is shown on I think Encore, that I'd -1 if I could just remember the name. It was some ecchi/fanservice anime, I just found sooo "OMG I can't believe someone made this. Couldn't they pick a better anime to put on?!"
-
I would love...LOVE...having a Foxtail! (and one that looks better than CO's, at that).

I'd also love to have hands and feet options like Felcia (from Darkstalkers), without having monstorous legs.
-
	You're right.

I should of said...All Khledians look alike and have the same powers. And being energy beings, I guess all beings from the same place, would be the same color energy.

As per BABs quoted reply above.

Of course this is subject to change.

Quote:My first thought...They're all from the same race, with the same powers. I mean if your going to let us color are powers why not let Peacebringers/warshades color them?

That storyline wise, they all look the same.

Quote:No. Here's why...i was wandering if you guys would have want the devs to make the world of the game open for both factions, to be able to travel anywhere regardless of your faction.

i'm going to get flamed about what i'm going to say next but..would have you enjoy comics/superheroes movies/tv shows if the heroes would be only in the heroes' city and the villains in the villains' city?i truly belive that this game need Paragon city and the Rogue isles to be open for both heroes and villains.

about Heroes vs Villains and how it may effect leveling, i think it will be best that the Heroes and Villains would be unable to atack each other.

i belive that making the game open for both factions would bring alot more subs then going rogue, but thats just my opinion.

First off, PvP isn't balanced. Duels are won by specific builds. Yes, part of it, is who is behind the controls. But when I can take my GEN IOed Scrapper, and win against a IOed out DOM, with a PvPer who knows more than I do about PvP...admittedly, they beat me hard the last time...but then I wasn't paying attention half the time, as my build wasn't set up for PvP to begin with...(lacking height power for one thing...so staying up high, and SJing around put me at a disadvantage right there).

Second off, it's immersion breaking. My hero see's a villain, and I go to stop them, but I can't! Why? Because they're not flagged to PvP.

Third off, continuing on with immersion breaking, some concept should win based on that alone. I'll say it again, Superman will always beat Batman in a fist fight.

But let's not go with Superman, cause someone will probably say "But Batman has a kryptonite glove!" Thor will always beat Batman. Hulk will beat Batman. Flash will just run at max speed before Batman knew what hit him. ect...ect...

Peak human will lose to super human.

That's not how CoH is setup. CoH is setup by a numbers game.

Fourth, I don't want to hear the inane dribble of a PvPer, who calls losers names because they don't know how to win gracefully, and I don't want to hear the sad pathetic whining of someone who loses (and yes, it happens in PvP zones).

WoW has it's numbers because of alot of factors, one being it's a known property. Warcraft. Made by a known company. Blizzard. While it's game play isn't to my liking, I won't go and say it's 100% terrible.

The fact that it doesn't require a massive new computer helps it as well. Not to mention while people here might not like it, it has a generally appealing art style to it's game.

My personal guess on any MMO competeing with WoW for numbers, won't be untill they make a Pokemon MMO, where you can actually catch every pokemon every made!

So, making CoH open world would really just be annoying, more than helping it gain more subcribers. IMO anyways.

Quote:I hate it when people play idiotic semantic games like this. Context is as key to reading comprehension as semantics.

Sure, technically, Batman was retconned into being trained by ninjas. But that's not where the character started nor is it the sole influence on his aesthetic. The point myself and others were making is that ninjas and the anime style run are of a tight niche. You are being incredibly myopic if your post is meant to assert that the fairly recent manga take on the dress and movement of one culturally and historically specific set of assassins represent ALL possible obvious aesthetics for characters with a "natural" flavor.

There is a world of character aesthetics beyond manga and for some of us, at least for myself, contrary to the gospel of the internets, once you get over their ninjaness, ninjas are actually pretty boring. You can think me uncool and tasteless for not being that into ninjas or manga. I realize others LOVE these things and I make no apologies for our differences in taste.

But I really don't appreciate insinuations that those of us that aren't gaga over this pack simply don't get the aesthetics of the extended genre of super and pulp heroes because all natural characters are "martial artists" in the most literal sense of the words.

I get that this pack is the best thing since sliced bread for many folks out there. I have in game friends who are huge anime fans and have themed SG's and VG's dedicated to various anime inspirations. Their cries of elation filled several global channels last night. Their joy made me happy. Also, though the aesthetic of the run fits very few of my characters, I do not want to diminish the quality of this new animator's work. It is stellar and, bar none, this is now THE best travel animation in game. Between his/her work here and the work I've seen on dual pistols, I am very hopeful for what this person's talents will bring to the game in the coming years. More than likely, my disappointment is fueled by jealousy. I'd love my preferred aesthetics to receive this amount of talented attention and the resulting awesome customization options.

Anyways, despite having already bought the pack (yup, gonna support Paragon studios) and despite having found a few uses for a couple costume elements beyond the advertised theme of this pack, this remains the least useful and therefore most disappointing of all the booster packs for me. It reminds me of overspecialized lego pieces. You just can't do much else with them. On the whole, this pack doesn't much to help me further realize any of my natural concept characters in game. And that has zero to do with where a few authors decided to take the Batman narrative a few decades back (when coincidentally ninjas became a huge fad in the West) or the semantics of "martial" in its broadest and most generic meaning. This highly specific pack is anything but broad and generic. It's very clear in this case and in this discussion it is that historically and culturally specific definition of "martial arts" that most applies.
Forget the whole, being a ninja aspect.

This run power works, for the natual heroes like Batman, Captain America (the serum only made him peak human, not superhuman), DareDevil (except for his Radar, he's just normal human), Robin and others, who go running around rooftop to rooftop.

That's what natural heroes do in superhero comics. And that's what this power helps bring.

Yeah. In the REAL WORLD, you couldn't do it. But the naturals in the comics...CAN!

Admittedly, I don't see the ninja run being in the concept every character. Right now I only seeing it being in the concept of my namesake (and when she's redside), my corr, and possibly my Spines/WP.

And that's just the running/flip aspect of it. I see none of them acually keeping the stance it leaves you in, when you keep it toggled.

Having run a RPTF just last night, I toggled it on during combat, flipping around, and when ever I had to stand around, I instantly turned it off.

 Loved it

...and then let's look at the other side of things. That I think will account for the majority of players...

It's a fun power, they'll use it on every character, because they don't care about concept at all. Or there concept is "This is my character, and he/she can do anything and everything" :P

TAI Gloves with Skin I hope gets looked at, doesn't match up with my toons skin when I use it (on any of them...admittedly I didnt put them on my white skinned villian).

All said and done, I find it alot more useful than the Tech Super Booster Pack, as while I am in no way upset over buying it, I've found the only option I like to use from it, is the belt Love that Tech Belt! Love that Tech Belt!

IT has it's uses. I don't see it being that big of an advantage over anyone who doesn't purchase the pack.
