Quote:This! I've asked for a IO that just gave you added damage before. What WOULD be cool would be if you could buy an IO with vanguard merits that adds energy damage (with standard values) to a power and is slottable in any standard attack. It wouldn't have to be part of any set.
Not alot. 5-10pts, of added damage, and corresponding power effect.
Not part of any set. Just an IO.
It would allow those who want Fire Blades or Ice Blades or Energy Blades (or whatever...i keep using blades as an example)...at the cost of a slot, and set bonus, since the IO wouldnt be part of a set. -
Quote:I willYou should seriously go try out shadowhunter, this guy is seriously difficult. Nasty defense debuffs, hits like a truck, has a huge self heal.
Trying to get a few more purples into the build before doing another. AV soloing takes along time, would be nice to pull a little more DPS.

Quote:Number three is a way to do it. A SG member and I made new alts, and joined a sewer team, and RPed it. None of the other members actually joined in on the RP, but they loved our toons and the RP of them.Everywhere. The point I was aiming for was--if you hang out in a nightclub, the only people you're going to get to meet are the kind that hang out in nightclubs. Sure, there tend to be more of them there...but are you looking for quality or quantity?
1. Join Virtue teaming and RP global channels
2. Find an RP SG--no, don't accept random invites to prestige farms in Atlas, generally you have to apply to the decent SGs out there. Check the threads at the top of the boards.
3. Stay in character when you can. RP can be a casual thing around here at times--if you aren't RPing, people won't RP back. But if you do RP...chances are folks are going to notice and do the same. -
Quote:In bases?Well besides Pocket D and under Atlas where else is the RP located? And how would I go about finding decent RPSG/VG's?
The Teen Phalanx, a teen oriented SG, that has recently (as in a few months now) started allowing in non teens (and teens that have stopped being teens), in as mentors.
We RP in the base, in missions, have RP events setup, weekly meetings.
Sometimes the RP is storyline based, sometimes it's everyone chatting IC.
Also do RP missions and RP TFs.
It's a Moderate-Heavy RP SG.
And we don't have a tendency to limit the RP to certain rules (for instance, there are members with powers that just can't be explained with in game powers)...so we're quite excepting...or powers that use close power sets, but not as explained by the power descriptions (as an example...we have one member who is really 55ft tall, with the ability to shrink...and grow/shrink others...just can't get that power outside of just RPing it).
SG has been active for over 2 years (3 years in July). With established RP rules...and a website...here.
Also coalitioned with Jadewire, another RP heavy SG.
They are out there, and I'm sure if you look through this forum, you can find an active RP SG that fits your style. I think that's probably one of the more important things...you need to find a group of CoH RPers that fit your style of RPing. -
The simple thought, what makes anyone think it won't be ported? It just hasn't been ported yet.
And why would they port it now? So far, they've ported Fire Melee and Electric Melee (and theme matching Defense Set).
And really, I think they they'll port over Ice Melee or Energy Melee next before Super Strength, not because of numbers, but because of players.
What was always the big complaint? "OH! Scrappers are stuck with Smashing and Lethal damage, the most resisted damage type in game! We need elemental sets!"
Well, they're giving the scrappers Elemental Sets.
I wouldn't want to put up with the headache of more "Smashing damage? No!!!" posts myself.

Quote:Why are you worring about Smashing & Lethal Defense, when as a /SR all you need to worry about is the Positional Defenses (Melee/Ranged/AOE).Hey guys, im getting very... hmmm, whats the word... PISSED. I cant seem to hit soft-cap on anything I want. I mean melee, thats given soft-cap. But, I want ranged, smash, and lethal to. It seems like I have tryed every single build there is for my DM/SR scrapper, and he still wont get there. Is there any trick to getting to soft-cap? If so, i would like to know
, and if not, well then im a nub hah. Also, is resist better than defense? It seems like on my shield scrap soon as my defense gets bypassed i die almost immediately or after a few swings. Given hes an Elec/Shield most are wiped before they get a chance to hit me, but sometimes i do get hit and it can be devastating. Maybe, its just me, idkkk lol. Thanks in advance!
You either work on Positional Defense or you work on Typed Defense (Smashing/Lethal/Fire/Cold/Energy/Negative).
As a /SR scrapper, you just need to work on Positional. For /SR Scrapper that's pretty easy to softcap. -

Quote:Alot of Electric Armor's survival comes from Power Sink, as well. Electric Armor is a late blooming set when it comes to survival. As a long time player im used to the suxage that the pre 22 game is.
I started a claws/elec brute when the last round of powerset proliferation brought claws over.
That toon is now at lvl 27 (as of last night). And its HORRIBLE. I wanna love this toon, I do. But I just cant.
Im running at -1 X6 difficulty, maybe thats the problem. But its faceplant after faceplant.
Im hopin that energize changes things but I have my doubts.
As a comparision im running up kat/wp and fire/rgn scrappers, those toons are around lvl 33ish. At lvl 24 with those toons I turned the difficulty up to +1 X6.
Now, I know comparing a kat/wp scrap to a claws/elec brute isnt a fair comparision but still...
With no access to mids I cant post a build. However I can tell you I have my 3 elec toggle armors (forget names but all are 3 slotted with resistance SO's), grounded and lightning field. From my primary I have my attacks up to spin without takin the taunt. stamina was takin at 20 and I have CJ.
So, please tell me it gets better. Or tell me what im doin wrong.
Thanx! -
Quote:Well, it is a SUPERHERO MMO. >.> Why wouldn't they bring it up? For some, that does matter.I still don't understand why people bring up comic books like that freaking matters at all. Despite you naming super strong characters whom you would consider "tanker" ATs, I can name a few who I would consider "scrappers".
Does that matter?
Not in the ******* least. Stop bringing it up.
I know I much prefere to see superhero looking toons running around, than "I'm from WoW! Look at me!" heros running around. :P
Power sets just go more to that feel. -
I got my WP/DM up to lvl 34...and with the IOs, I have to tell you...the damage just felt WEAK!
Admittedly, I didnt have MG yet...but...*sigh* The Damage just didn't feel there. Worse than other sets because of the Tankers lower DMG mod.
Survival wise...OMG! Great. Siphon Life just makes a WP even more unstoppable. Add in the little tohit to stack with RTTC for even more "can't touch me"! -
Defense cap...oh...
Steadfast Protection: +3% Defense IO for sure!
If you can afford it, or willing to PvP for it...the PvP +3% Defense IO is another good one to get!
Kinetic Combat (4 pieces, skip the proc) for the S/L Defense!
Reactive Armor (4 pieces...Resist, Resist/Recharge, Resist/End Red, Resist/End Red/Recharge) for the S/L/E/NE Defense.
I very much think you should go the Tough/Weave route on a WP anything. So Weave will add to the Defense!
If you're concept allows it, or if you can fit it in, CJ adds more of a boost.
Maybe even Manuevars from the Leadership pool (alot more END than CJ, for only a little more Defense...but you need alot of Defense Stacking to hit Defense cap on a WP Scrapper)
Personally, Id say skip Hasten if you're thinking of grabbing it, as DB/WP really doesn't need it.
I also used the Guassian ToHit IO set in FA for the 1.25% Typed Defense across the board on my DB/WP.
You don't NEED to hit the softcap on a /WP imo, but don't get me wrong, it's that much better, for sure!
So far, I'm at the 30-34% Defense on my DB/WP scrapper, and that handles it pretty damn well. I havent redone the build though, since getting the new computer, or I'd post what my planned build is.
If I get time, I'll make you a build, if you give some ideas of what you're going for power pool wise with yours.
Mine required Hover for example for concept. If I was going the purely min/max route, Id have just grabbed CJ instead.
Also no idea if you're getting alot of the attacks or not. Maybe you want all the combos. Maybe you don't. That would be a factor in what sets to suggest as well. -
Quote:More of a...do I get surprised "on test" where I'll have to replay it all on live.I've never understood the concept of "It ruins the surprise." Whenever it happens to me, whenever I find out, whatever it is--I'll be surprised then. And if I'm not surprised then, I'm sure as hell not going to be surprised at some epic later point in time.
OR
Do I get suprised on live, and play it all for the first time on live!
I'm pretty sure that's what the poster meant.
There is a difference for some people. Even more so, for those people (not saying the poster is one of them) who complain about playing through something more than once or twice. -
Quote:I feel sorry for them.Closed beta for Issue 17 next week? That is excellent news! I am really enjoying the pace at which things are getting done, news is getting out, and etc. lately.
Props to all those hard working people involved!
This will basically be 5 straight months of NEW NEW TEST TEST. And what will it achieve?
People saying "What's next! Give me something new!" before GR is even out of testing. -
This thread makes me feel so bad.
My catgirls are usually just ears & tail. Sometimes, using Large Boots/Gloves (or Banded Gloves)...tight versions...to simulate fur covered paws.
I've never actually done a full fur covering the whole body toon (except in RP power swap with SG)! I almost feel...ashamed! Okay...not really. But...still...now i feel the need to make a fur all over! -
Quote:You know, interresting enough, I was suprised not to see MORE pirates on test. The bigger the better is what ive always heard. lol. Nice female pirate. i've never seen one of those before in game.
In fact, I hadn't seen a pirate at all on test (untill I saw a post here with a pic of a pirate).
And after I made the pirate outfit on test. I fell in love with it so much, I made it as one of my outfits on my DB/WP Scrapper on Virtue...works just as well with her Red Cap Daggers.

For some reason, this post made me want a /Poison toon!
However, I couldn't help but wish it was for a CORR over a MM. -
Quote:Really, as my main scrapper is a DB/WP...I'd suggest going for survivability over hitting the max damage.I have plenty of influ. I am having difficulty getting the concept of damage cap. I have a DB WP scrapper. An y suggestions on sets to get max damage cap?
For ST, BF -> AV is good, and doesn't require alot of recharge to obtain.
BF -> AS -> SS -> AS -> Repeat (I beleive that's it) was the best to go for ST DPS.
ANd what's great about that, is SS adds a nice cone.
If you mean getting more AOE...BF -> Attack Vitals Combo -> Typhoons Edge is a good way to go too.
Personally, I don't care to use 1k Cuts. So I've started skipping over the Sweep Combo. -
Quote:Strangely I found his eye beams to be his weakest attacks. By hovering above him, he mostly stood there and kept blasting at me with his eye beams.Tyrant is in the middle range, in my experience. I've never found his normal attacks to be particularly distressing, but his Laser Beam Eyes hit like a truck and are AoE positional (even though they're ST). If anything, those will probably be what gets you because you're pretty much guaranteed to be softcapped to melee (which is everything else he does).
As it's all energy damage, it allowed me to turn off Tough (wasn't doing me any good), and save on END. My build isn't completely IOed/Accoladed out yet.
The SG mate who was taking turns with me, used a fully IOed out Katana/Regen, who was doing decently against Tyrant.
I however, don't know what his positional defense was, I just know he does have quite a bit of it, and also had and used DA.
Tyrant seemed to just get lucky with a string of bigger hitters, and the player slow on heals, as his only reason for not taking him down.
I had no idea exactly where in range Tyrant was for soloing AVs, I just wanted to solo him first, as he's Tyrant!
From an in game standpoint, taking on Tyrant by yourself should be a crowning achievement.

Awww...the aura did show up on that pick of Synapse. :/ I must of clicked printscreen to late on it. Grrrr....
-
OKay...my submissions...

Actually spent time on the others, but just didnt like them. :/ And wish I had Phase Shift or Earthreal Shift to add to Numina's pic.
Statesman - Positron - Numina - Manticore - Synapse
[EDIT] OH! I never did give a write up! I don't think I went with a theme like some of the great ones that have been shown. My only thought was to keep them looking like comic book superheroes. I see why some people might go the route of armored up, or street clothes, but that just doesn't seem super hero to me.
Mind you, my favorite period of comics was the 90's. When superheroes still wore tights, and looked the part of classic heroes.
Statesman...I ditched the helmet. None of them look all that great imo and I tried to keep it, as it's his trademark...but...ewww. I know it's his signature right now, I do. But...:/ Still, I wanted to keep the Red/White/Blue feel to him. Kept his belt (or equivalent anyways). I think the outfit does a good job of blending the US colors with a superhero feel to him. Statesman keeps the cape, as Statesman is very much the classic caped hero.
Positron...he's the CoH version of Iron Man. He has to have the suit! Went the darker route, with the green highlights due to the radiation (which really can vary in color). Darker suit, with the HUD Display aura for the added tech feel.
Numina...to me, she's that superhero who doesn't go the tight route. Maybe it's because she's magic based. But I wanted to give her a younger look. Admittedly it's a variation on one of my main's civvie outfits, but I think it worked so well for her, and the hair...it needed a change. Of all the Freedom Phalanx, she needs the update more than any imo (Sister Psyche/Synapse tie for second).
Manticore...he's CoH's Batman inspired hero (at least to me). Now, I realize wha others see as his hair, is really just part of his cowl. Personally, it just...fails imo. Giving him a more edgier look, with the added spikes on the gloves and boots...add in the flame on the boots and gloves because it just works so well with the pants. Which give a more ninja feel to him.
Synapse...the speedster. I wanted to keep that feel. Also edge him up a bit. Show off that hair. He loves the girls! Let the girls run their fingers through that hair! The chains for that edgier, add more oomph to the punch, look! Have to keep his goggles though. The goggles are like his trademark to me. -
Here's my main, which will soon be DP/Something! Tested her out with DP/Mental, DP/Thermal, DP/KIN...never got around to the RAD/DP. :/
Her normal Hero Outfit & her fighting pirates outfit!
Let's see if I can get them to show up without them being to big! *crosses fingers*

I think I could do my concepts more justice, if the epics where better.
Okay, I have to live with limits. I can't have a hero who can fire both Fire AND Ice...but the epics were restructured (to grab a blast over a hold/immobilize I dont see my concept being able to do), or added to even more...like a 4 minute ally buff shield...so they can sheild their allies as if they had telekensis...it would all be better! -
Quote:I haveto ask...while those sets like SS getting ported over to Scrappers is good.As I just stated in the other (edit: oops, it was this thread) SS thread, I see an opinion here not backed up by reality.
Dual Blades was given to every melee AT. It's in no way brutish. It's purely a style set.
The "elemental" sets staying with tanks/brutes was tossed when scrappers got fire melee/armor.
Then brutes got claws. There's absolutely nothing smashy or heavy about claws. Nothing. Even with the tweaks it got during the port.
When I hear something along the lines of "perhaps tanks shouldn't get katana/broadsword because of DivAva/Parry being grossly overpowerered on tanks" then I'll at least listen. I probably won't agree because kat/bs would be weaksauce on tanks.
But I will no longer take seriously any argument based on "X shouldn't be ported over because of AT concept."
Edit2: And Louis, I got claws on brutes because I wanted it.
You have to feel sorry for the tanks! They don't change up the numbers! They need to change them up from the scrapper numbers.
Yeah, suuuure, Dark Melee for tanks makes them more survivable...so what?! It's so weak on a tank!
