Who said anything about AV soloing? We were talking about locking them down.

And in my experience, it takes more than a Defender (With 3 holds) and a Troller, to keep an AV locked.

I was on a team of 7 Trollers/Doms and 1 tank, and the AVs didn't stay held.

Holds are nice, but I wouldn't want the additional redraw from trying to stack the holds.

Sounds like you need to move to Virtue and look me up! I run TFs all the time, and I'd put my success rate in the 99% rate.

They might not always end pretty...by pretty I mean I've had that 9 hour ITF (only once!) But most my TFs end.

LRSF is the killer though. Lvl 50, not willing to keep trying because of dying? *sigh* You're level 50, suck it up!

Who said anything about not wanting to PVP? Sometimes they interrupt duels, not just badges, though that isn't such an issue now that arena works anywhere.

See, this is one of the things that sucks about discourse now. Nobody even debates what the other person is saying, they just either argue with an alternate meaning of the words that were said:

See, it IS consent if you use this meaning of the word! Never mind that "PVP should involve giving technical consent by entering a PVP zone, or it isn't any fun anyway. What is the point of PVP against a target that doesn't fight back?" makes absolutely no sense in the context.

or classifying them into some group, and then debating with your stereotypical perception of that group:

Aha! You complained about attacks in a PVP zone! You must not want to PVP, even though you specifically referenced duels.

And thus armed with these 2 awesome debating techniques, the masses of the internet can win any argument simply by covering up the main point under a 10 page pile of drivel about word definitions or arguments about group stereotypes.

The POINT is that there is no fun to be gained from PVPng an unprepared person who is not able to fight back, unless you are getting jollies from causing them to be frustrated, which is the essence of trolling. For non-sociopaths, PVP is fun because it is more interesting and challenging than PVE.

Let's see...today...I went into the first 3 PvP zones for the purpose of badge collecting.

Bloody Bay. No one attacked me. Didn't see anyone.

    Same with Warburg.

No in Siren's Call, however. BOOM! Attacked!

Now mind you, I wasn't there for PvP, wasn't really in the mood for it. But that stalker got me. Sooo...I went to the hospital, and made my way to the next badge!

BOOM! Bane gets me! Wasn't prepared for it, and I don't recall if the Bane got me or the stalker he was teamed with. I assume they're teamed, only because they were part of the same SG.

So, trip to the hospital again. Get the third badge! And BOOM! Died getting to the 4th badge, because well, it's in the villain controlled area. And the NPCs over whelmed my defender. *shrug*

Back out of the hospital I get my 4th and final badge! \o/ Mana falls from the heavens! I make my way to the spot I got beat before for another shot at Bane or Stalker.

I get the Bane! Couple close calls! Yeah, I saw myself winning! That Bane was going down! It was just two more hits, I can take him...BOOM! That stalker comes into the fight, damn! I'm stunned, toggles dropped (they should really make it so offensive toggles don't drop in PvP, just to make it fair)...to late...faceplanted. And then a brute shows up and Footstomps my corpse!

Seeing as how they were all part of the same SG, and the only other hero I saw in the zone was just standing in the hospital. I decided I'd leave the zone, as 1 vs 3 was just asking to get beat everytime without even a CHANCE of winning.

Point is. You're saying yes to being killed in a PvP zone, by another player, when you enter that zone.

This isn't a matter of forced consent. Or rules lawyering. This is matter of you the one going into the zone saying "Yes. I know the risks. I'm going in." and thusly turning on your flag to be killed by other players.

Now did the targets not want to PvP? No. Then why did they go into the PvP zone? It's already been explained, there is nothing in those PvP zones, that is needed for PvE. That requires you to stay in the zone for very long.

Click 3 plaques, and grab 3 exploration badges to get accolades.

And that's just redside, nothing blue.

Now if they had asked me. Likely would have left them alone. Well, except maybe in Sirens, but I don't really PvP in there, I prefere to PvP in RV/Arena, where I have access to every power, but Siren's has a bounty system, so if they're your target, you really have to go for it.

This isn't being mean. It's playing how the one was designed to be played.

I'm not saying smeg was in the wrong. I'm just saying that smeg caused undesired grief to that player. Griefing.
Or one can look at it the other way.

Smeg wanted to attack players and thusly went to the PvP zone. The other player came to a PvP zone and didn't want to PvP. Causing Smeg grief as being a target in a PvP zone, and putting him in the turmoil of "should I leave him alone, or kill him because all targets are fair game in a PvP zone, no matter what they're in the PvP zone for"?

Sounds like the other player was causing greif to me.

If you don't want to be killed by other players, don't let the PvP flag get turned on. If you're okay with being killed by other players, then turn it on. By stepping into a PvP zone, you're saying, I'm okay with being killed by other players.
  5. Hmmm...I personally have no problem with it being said.

Though being on Virtue, I don't care for it when people say it IC. I mean really, that glow that happens when you level up, I see as a OOC effect, that just shows you've leveled. Kinda like how I don't think the glow that says "hey you remembered to click the power on" has to mean that the glow is seen IC.

    But that's just me.

The people with lots and lots of money, going to their great builds, not likely the type to say "Yeah, I want an apartment for this toon" when they could be using that influence to make a better build.

Replacing it with a single target damage power would be an excellent idea! Also (this is just me) I think ice sword should be ditched for another single target power, but with the frozen fist type animation.
And here is the biggy id love to see! Ditch frozen touch for a much more fun and unique power, a combo of sheild charge and thunderstrike if you will. The point would be to target an enemy and when the power activates, you nearly fly to the target and beat him with an icy fist! (sort of like johnny cage in MC) This would then cause an aoe effect like thunderstrike but the targeted enemy takes more damage!
This is just a few ideas, id love to see this sub par powerset be revamped and not simply buffed! Anyone else feel the same as I? If so post your ice melee fixes!!
With the recent bring out of the mothballs of my Ice/Ice tanker (lvl 40/41)...I have to agree. Ice Melee needs some tweaks, but I wouldn't go as far as you have suggested.

#1) Increase Frozen Aura's radius to match Foot Stomp

#2) Increase GIS's damage! If this means higher end cost and longer recharge okay. But make it worth taking.

#3) Give Frozen Fists the Barrage treatment. Which will basically turn Frozen Fists and Frozen Sword into identical powers, except one is Cold/Smashing the other Cold/Lethal.

#4) Increase the range on Frost to 15ft. OR Increase Ice Patches number of effected foes to 10 and increase it's radius to match Foot Stomps.

This is what I would like to see done. I'm not holding my breath. Though I do hold out hope for Frozen Fists getting the Barrage Treatment.

If you kill it, you dont have to tank it.If people belive that Tankers dont do damage, then they need to find out why they belive in such fantasies.

I have no issues solo, or in a team with my SD/Axe Tanker, and at level 40 he has no Tough or Weave. The same can be said about my Fire/Fire Tanker and my Ice/Ice Tanker.

Its more about how a player thinks and plays his builds then the build its self.

Iv recently discovered im a Min/Maxer, but not in the traditional sense.Where I read Effect numbers first vs damage numbers when it comes to Tankers, Scrappers, and Defenders.

Other traditional Min/Maxers want the best possible personal numbers they can get, even if the set doesnt out perform a lesser played set.Such as Willpower vs Fire Armor or even Dark Armor.

In the long run, many of the lesser played sets get bad reps because people acctually have to work for there gravy, but the pay off is better then the usual with more used sets.

Can a WP/SS Tanker fight well and hold Agro?Absolutly, provided its using its Taunt and keeps hitting something with its ST attacks.

Can a WP/SS Tanker fight better then a SD/Mace Tanker and hold more agro?Absolutly not.The reason why I say this, is because of the massive AoE damage the SD/Mace build pumps out.Yes, by the numbers the SD/Mace Tanker is supposedly weaker in overall Toughness and Survivability. However, the SD/Mace Tanker can survive better by killing everything in its path as if it was a joke.

When you run in with a WP/SS Tank with Rage running, then Foot Stomp for over 160 damage, then start working on the mob with your ST attacks, throwing in a 350 damage KO blow on occassion, your doing alright.

When you run in with a SD/Mace Tank, its a whole diffrent story. You get in the mob, trigger your Build Up, Whirling mace for 160 AoE Damage, Crowd Control upto 10 targets for 250 damage, then use your sheild charge right after it and smack the entire mob for over 450 damage, you just out performed the Min/Maxed WP/SS Mid's build by a HUGE margin using just SOs.Lets not forget Clobber and the rest of the Amp'd ST attacks Mace gives you from AAO.

Dark Armor has ALOT of tools, and is better used with a Melee set like Electrical Melee or Dark Melee. The goal being Global Recharge, Recovery, and Regen when you aspire to IOs.

Can Dark Armor out perform Willpower?Yes, yes it can.

At higher levels on my Spines/Invln Scrapper, ill be very capable of Tanking for teams. Are Scrappers ment to Tank? No, they are not.Can they Tank?Yes, they can.
My bad Fire. When I said I wouldn't worry about DPS on a Tanker, I meant Single Target DPS. I wouldn't try to go for what I would consider the best single target DPS on any of my tankers.

Why? Because to obtain it, usually means sacrificing additional defenses (ie...you need to go for those +RCH bonuses).

Which in normal game play, you don't need the top ST DPS...but having the best possible defense on your tanker can sometimes come in handy in normal gameplay.

Also lets go with how I personally built my only 50 tank. A WP/EM. Before she was dismantled (*glares at EM changes*) of IO sets, I had worked hard to get her to the best defense one could get on a tanker (outside of adding Aid Self to the build, as I just hate the tri-corder look THAT much, that it really really REALLY fit my concept...which has only ever fit one toon of mine)...that I was able to tank LR while he was charged up by 4 towers, while the rest of the team took down the towers, with just my tanker and skittles.

No support from anyone else on the team.

That to me, is what I build a tanker for.

And while yes, WP's taunt aura is weak, if I wanted to tank an AV, I would have taunt on any tanker combo.

I have yet to see a tanker who could keep an AVs attention solely focused on them, without the AV at least turning, glaring, throwing some sort of attack at a squishy (which may kill them), and then turning their attention back to the tanker.

Those who use taun often, I don't see this happening.

Now just normal missions. Pffft. If I'm on a squishy who can't survive that well, all I really care about is someone who can take the aggro, and less worried about what's left.

And outside of Shield Charging white minions, how fast do you kill things that are possibly +2 lvls higher?

How does your tanker handle the STF, ITF, 5thTF and LGTF? I'm a TF junkie! I run PuG TFs all the time! This means I'm not picking and choosing my teammates. Oh yes, I may find a description that fits what I want and try for it, but not always.

To me, if my tank can't survive these, I need to keep tweaking them. But that's my playstyle. From my experience, you're amp'ed up Shield/ Tanker, is going to fall to some of the tougher AVs without backup.

Yeah, when the triangles are down.

On my Dark/Ice/Psy who has three holds (PG, Freeze Ray and Dominate) and could practically chain them non stop, holding AVs wasn't an easy task.

Yeah, I'd like a few extra inspiration slots, but I wouldn't skip a power pick to get them.

Also, you get 1/3 uptime (40% on Strength of Will). My hardest fights are LONG fights. If I can survive the 2/3 of the time that it isn't up, then I can survive the 1/3 of the time that it is up. I had similar reasoning for not taking Touch of Fear on an AV killer. Might be nice while the purple triangles are down, but if I can survive while they're up, then I might as well just keep punching their face in while they're down. Not particularly applicable to a more average build.

Not saying either is a bad power. I'd WANT them. But high end builds can get really tight.

For the OP, Siphon Life is MUCH too good of an attack to waste on a full healing set. Mind you, it's also much too good of a heal to waste on a full melee set. So it's one of the few powers that I recommend frankenslotting for maximum enhancement values instead of worrying about set bonuses. The classic thread on the subject is over here.

Also, while I like the Leadership pool, I don't like it as much as the Fighting pool. I would want both Tough and Weave to stack with the resistance and defense from your secondary. Were you dropping Flight to get Fighting though? I'd probably drop Flight to get Leaping, and just take Combat Jumping, which was another power you mentioned. A couple defensive powers are good. A lot of them are better. Look into fairly immediate purchase of a Kismet unique (+6% to hit. It says accuracy, but it's actually to hit, which usually helps a lot more.). Also a Steadfast Protection unique (+3% defense). If you stay in Leadership, I'd take Tactics and slot a Gaussian set (+2.5% defense). If you drop it for other goodies, I'd take Focused Accuracy and slot it in there. You might not have the endurance to use Focused Accuracy more than situationally, but you'll still get the defense full time.
Hmmm...when I fought Tyrant (only AV soloed so far...been busy on the Dual Pistol toon >.> ), I found SoW to be useful for both a few close class in the long fight, and the END REC. Still missing a few IOs on the build, so ENDREC isn't quite there yet for that long drawn out of fight without stopping. :/ BUT ALMOST! Takes quite a bit to eat away, but I'm missing a few and I'm sure using DEF/RCH instead of DEF/ENDRED LotG in a few powers isn't helping

Pistols I would never skip. Even more so because you can put a -resist proc in it.

ES and PR I find to valuable! PR comes with a nice -resist attached to it when using it with Lethal Rounds as well!

Empty Clips can have a -resist slotted in it as well, but I don't skip it because it's more AOE.

In fact, I find I use all my attacks pretty often on my Defender (RAD/DP), I don't see why you wouldn't beable to use all your attacks pretty often on a Corrupter.

I only find SF skippable when it comes to Dual Pistols.

Desdemona is a sorceress and has put her skill towards controlling and supporting her demons as minions. Assuming that they can call up an even number of demons, Desdemona's will be on average stronger, because she'll be firing off her other spells (Dark Miasma powers).

Infernal has her utterly spanked in a straight up fight, but I think she has the resources to defeat his demons and outnumber and surround him, ensuring that he never gets into a position to use his demonic axe, and his armor is far from impenetrable.
I'd disagree on the Desdemona having the stronger willpower. After all, Infernal has to have a strong willpower to bind the demons and keep them bound. Not to mention he can summon his own demons.

And he can summon alot more demons than Desdemona can, as evidence by the missions.

As I understand it, heroes or villains will have to take certain missions to alter their alignment one way or the other.

    Mission in RI = Evil

Mission in Praetoria = Lean toward one side or the other.

A one-use temporary power which summons a pet which is a small version of your faction's heavy from RV.
Exactly. None of the other badges do anything for anyone in regards to PvE. So, going after the badges in the zones is purely optional.

Now note, if it was me who was asked "Please don't kill me, I'm here for badges" I would of left them alone unless they attacked me, but I would never for a second think anyone has to in a PvP zone.

The two of us decided we would pick up Shivans and make another attempt, because we could get Clamor down to almost half health before she finished us off. So we hit Bloody Bay, and the aforementioned Stalker and Brute started ganking us, camping the firebases and basically making ***** of themselves, considering they were just chain-ganking us, clearly not making any rep for most of the kills.

To me, that's not someone being a friendly competitor (Which is something that barely exists anyway, despite the fiction people would like to maintain about competitive activities in general) but rather someone acting like a schoolyard bully.

This duo of people obviously were not seeking an actual challenge, but rather just wanted to have fun by making things not fun for others, griefing, in short. And yes, I have zero respect for PvPers who talk about the challenge of PvP and how PvE is so lame and boring because it's too easy, and then spend their time ganking people who have not built their toons for PvP, do not have a PvP skillset as a player, and will not provide any kind of challenging fight. This is bullying to me, not gaming.

This was in the wee hours of the morning, which is why I had suggested we should hit the zone, thinking it would be empty. The fact that this duo of villains were camping the zone at an hour when there was clearly not going to be any competition tells me they were there to be jerks to people who only want to pick up a Shivan and get out.

So we decide if we sit in the longbow base by the helicopter, they might get bored and go home. No such luck, they start teleporting us out of the base and ganking us. My blaster has a raptor pack and neither of these guys can fly, or even superjump, but the tanker is getting owned.

My response to bullies in the real world has always been to punch them in the nose. So I told my friend, after tricking the jerks into getting droned, to go and sneak out along a route he wouldn't likely be seen while the two were coming back, and I set a trap for them. I switched to a squishy toon, and waited in the base like I was there for the zone time badge. They couldn't resit the bait and tp'd me again. Sadly for them the squishy I had switched to was my level 50 completely IO'd out Fire/Kin farmer. Who already had a full set of Shivans. And an Amy.

The instant I was tp'd I summoned the Shivan. Hot feet did what I expected and revealed the incompetent stalker by doing some damage. I slapped him with my hold and summoned Amy and he was dead before the Brute could really wade in, which meant he ended up dying too.

Final proof that they were pathetic little bullies? They left the zone.

Again, satisfying, but not in the least way fun.

Tanker friend got his Shivans, I switched back to my Blaster, and we went and finished off Clamor and succeeded at the TF. That was fun.

However, I'd be happy if they removed Shivans from the game entirely, as long as they take them out of PvP zones.

PS: Make all the fancy arguments you want, but I know every last one of you PvPers who want the Shivans and Nukes kept in the PvP zones are just bullies who like to beat up on people who can't or won't fight back. There's no good reason to keep them there other than to bring people who don't want to PvP into PvP zones, and the only reason you would want that is if you are a bully who enjoys causing others grief. End of story.
Okay, you were doing a TF with 2 (because 4 of the people left) that says "need 6 to start.

You don't need shivans/nukes to complete, you need people who don't join a TF then leave it before it's finished.

As for me, I've never gotten a Shivan or a Nuke. So, where they're located really isn't a bother for me.

    2) In my observations with Dual Pistols, while being (In my opinion) a fairly low-moderate damage set, it seems like almost every power in the Primary is worth taking as well with the possible exceptions of Executioner's Shot or Pistols.
    3) I'm assuming that each of the Dual Pistol powers that I take will be heavily slotted (5-6). I'm not so sure how to slot the Dark Powers though, given that I see a lot of people post builds that include extremely expensive IO's (Nothing wrong with that, just that I don't have the resources to kit out this character as such).

Alright, so having said all that, if there are any suggestions for DP/Dark builds that would be effective and fit the above criteria, that'd be greatly appreciated. But that wouldn't even be necessary; just figuring out which Dual Pistol powers are keepers and which are worth dropping would also be great (I've tried them all, but I'm not sure about which ones are worth dropping, or if any are worth dropping at all). I've been playing around with Mid's (Although it keeps bugging out the moment I add Swap Ammo), but I'm pretty bad when it comes to figuring out slotting/order of powers to take pre-40.

    Thanks in advance.
    1) You really don't need the holds. Petrifing Gaze and Suppressive Fire are easily skippable. Black Hole, skippable! Wouldn't skip Fluffy outside of a highly IOed build, it's the only time I start to find him less than useful, and never notice when he's gone.

    2) If you take Tactics, I found 5 slots in Twilight Grasp (using the Doctored Wounds set), works nicely. I'd slot it different with out sets.

Tar Patch, 2 slots, both Recharges.

Darkest Night, 4 slots, Dark Watcher's Despair is what I use for my build to get the +5% RCH.

Shadowfall...the a different beast all together and can go alot of different ways. For me, it always seems to get 5 slots (though it tends to get them late game).

Fearsome Stare, pick a set you want to go for by set bonuses, and slot it! It's really that simple. You can't go wrong with slotting up the Fear or the ToHit, it's a pretty great power right out of the box.

Dark Servant, I like to slot with 4 Basilisk's Gaze (easy to obtain if you're just willing to run some AE, to random roll for the recipes). That's a +7.5% RCH, then I give it 1 or 2 more slots, depending on the build. Again, once fully IO'ed, I can see someone skipping Fluffy, but it just feels wrong to do so. I've contemplated it on my Dark Miasma toon, but havent been able to bring myself to do it.

5 slot Dual Wield and Bullet Rain, I'd 6 slot all the other attacks in DP.
  22. I would probably suggest opening with Radiation Infection. -ToHit to keep you all standing.

Likewise putting things that are required for PVE advantages, in a zone that requires an entirely different type of gameplay interaction, with its own rules and stat sets, is a flawed design.

Take a look at Warcraft, PVP is an alternative form of character advancement, but there is never a point where you must go and PVP to advance in PVE.

Unlike CoX where red side accolades require PVP badges.
And what badges does it require? Exploration. Exploration badges arent hard to get even during peak time, got killed and still managed to get all the exploration badges in the zone.

And truthfully, the zone for Shivans isn't really that hard to do PvE in.

And one of those occasions I actually pimpsmacked the little Stalker punk and his Brute bodyguard singlehandedly. I took satisfaction in ruining their fun, but it wasn't fun in the slightest for me. Satisfying yes, because I think they're jerks, and it's always satisfying to wipe the smile off a jerk's face, but fun? Not at all.

I do not like PvP. I simply cannot have fun in that sort of competitive atmosphere. It's nice that you can, but a large segment of the playerbase simply cannot and never will. It's the height of poor design to keep trying to force them into the PvP zones when they're never going to have fun there.

    That's why it's bad design.

Nothing awarded in a PvP zone should have any effect on the PvE game at all. If Shivans are going to be in PvP zones they should ONLY be usable on other players. Same with nukes. Same with anything placed in a PvP zone, ever. Including PvP IO drops.
Anything in this game, can be beat without the use of Shivans or Bukes. So, it has no effect on the PvE game.

    I'd suggest Elec/Elec.

One of the things that keeps an Elec Armor standing, is Power Sink. Drain the enemies around you before they drain you down, and then \o/ they stand around and wait.

Elec Melee helps drain them that much faster.
