What more do I need on my defenders, than damage? Solo I survive fine. It's killing slowly that's bothersome.

Quote:Now GG, you've been around to know that's not true.I think I17 and I18 will have one or two things to keep you entertained until I19

i17 will release and a second later, someone's going to make a new post asking when are they going to give us something new, because they're bored with i17 already. -
Quote:It looks cheesy because it's flashy. Which is what I'd say most of the player base wants, more than actual "must be great DPA numbers"I dont know what i think of it
one one hand it looks sort of cheesy
on the other hand it looks remarkably like a Telekinesis set so ill look into it.
They want their toons moving about. This is what makes Dual Pistols (imo) the best set (though others agree with me). -
Quote:^^This...I'm pretty sure BrandX meant, "Good! I was hoping they would have a new set for each AT, and they did it! Every paid expansion should also!"

I was hoping they would have a new powerset for all the ATs, long before it was announced at Pax that they would in fact have a new power set for all ATs.
I also think every paid expansion should come with new powersets
I'd love a Time Manupulation powerset, but then there'd be alot more people out there with powers similar to my main. So, that would suck. :/
-
I get the feeling Incarnate will be like an Extreme Accolade. That's how it sounds.
I'm guessing obtain badges, run certain missions, and possibly build secondary xp that goes to obtaining these incarnate abilities without actually gaining a level. -
Quote:I was hoping they'd have a new set for each of the basic ATs. Every paid expansion should!hmmm a new power set for each AT eh?
Dual Pistols for Blasters, Defenders and Corruptors.
Demon Summoning for Masterminds.
Kinetic Melee for Tankers, Scrappers, Brutes and Stalkers.
Electric Control for Controllers and Dominators.
yep thats a new set for each At.
Going Rogue is looking better and better. -
Quote:Depends on what you plan to go up against.I would also note that I am synergizing this build with a friend that I play with regularly. So we figured between our two FFG's, were not gonna need resistance.
Softcap doesn't mean the Random Number Generator can't hate you. -
Quote:I actually like the idea of making Barrage an exact copy of Ice Sword on the basis that it would make Ice Melee different from other sets.I totally agree with 1, 2 and 4. Frozen Fists be like Stone Fists, 4 sec rech instead of 3 and better damage.
The other sets (at least when they're the Primary), one would decide, do I pick this attack or this attack and it's usually based on DPA/DPS strings.
With the change I'd like to see, you're good with either, it comes down to "Do I want Lethal or Smashing damage" or "Do I want fists or sword" or "Do I grab both?"
For a Tanker (imo), they just come down to two okay attacks one could use.

Quote:I'll tell you why people put them through it. They love to do TFs, and their SG isn't known for liking to run TFs.You seem to be basing most of your arguments around the fact that Dark can't handle the STF w/o serious support. Um... so? Is that all you do w/your 50s? And PuG STFs? Why would anyone put themselves through that hell other than to prove you can? I mean, I suppose it's nice for your ego and all, but I'd rather run it w/my SG and/or competent friends of which I have a decent supply on my home server.
Same for ITFs--I just breezed through one w/nothing more than scrappers and a few support, though it wasn't some crappy PuG, which is why, again, I don't run them. If I *had* to tank a bad team though, I'd just bring over my Stony or Invul. On a barely competent team (i.e. doesn't actively suck), DA does *more* than well enough.
Bottom line, other than MoSTF runs, end game content in CoH just isn't that tough (Disclaimer: I haven't been on a Hami run in forever so don't know what those are like any more). Not to mention, this game isn't just about end game content. I got my DA's def up through IOs starting in his 30s which made him well nigh unkillable for that level range. DA does more than fine for 98% of this game, esp when well IO'ed out, which was, I believe your first point of contention--that DA doesn't IO well.
Besides it's fun.
ITF really isn't that bad with PuG. STF on the other hand is tougher (LRSF will likely be just as tough when Tankers go redside)...but they're hardly unbeatable. However with some teams, patience is a virtue, sadly I'd say most players lack it, as once they die to 3 times, they begin to whine and quit due to debt. :/ -
Quote:For most things you'll be fine.It wasn't anything dumb like no mez protection...
I was thinking about a new DA/Mace. He'd have taunt and stuff but he'd opt for improving stuns. And rather than defense bonuses from IOs, I was going to aim for +HP, +END and recovery and other stuff...but his concept is he likes to be hit...like a masochist or something.
Yeah, I've just got his concept and possible costume but haven't done anything beyond that.
Where I think you'll find the biggest problems, if you don't have the right Buffers/Debuffers watching your back...
ITFs. Mez Shields are wasted against the enemy. They'll land lots of hard hitting attacks. Would DA/ Tanker be the ideal choice of lead tanker imo on an ITF? No. But, I've run it with all tankers, and truthfully, I'd rather run it with a DA/ than a Granite who can't play without Speed Boost. Those are the worst Tankers.
STF, LR buffed up by those towers is HARD for most tanks without backup. I had to replan my WP/EM tanker's build twice to get the survivability I wanted. And sacrificing concept powers to do it.
I went from no Tough/Weave to grabbing it, because I wanted my tanker to survive as much as possible with as little help as possible.
On a STF, fact is most Tankers are going to need some sort of help to hold LR off the team, while the team is taking down the towers.
I was spam healing a softcapped SHield/ tanker with my Dark/Sonic Defender, and couldn't keep him standing, and that was with Darkest Night on LR (and the tank was popping skittles). Now either the tanker was lying about being Softcapped, or LR is that hard on Tanks. -
Quote:Which is why I try to keep loose. Tied to, but not perticularly TIED so tight you can't move from it.I don't really like embedding characters to heavily into canon organisations because the structures are usually too badly described in lore. Whatever you do, you end up creating something which doesn't quite fit, or later gets made inviable by lore updates. I also tend to have issues around characters ending up with rank in such organisations since you can't actually earn it.

Quote:Much like myself, there are some who would leave people alone in the PvP zones if asked. We're not saying they can't ask.I personally never attack people farming in RV. some players are just pvErs and dont like pvp . they are forced to get to RV and get the badges. if someone asked me to leave him alone i would. then again if the one who asks is rude i dont see any reason

Also there are people asking to leave them alone but in the past we have seen them attacking other farmers. well . . . that's a different story. u just hunt them
.
Anyway there are pvpers in RV good enough to protect themselves while farming. if they dont ask no problem attacking them . they propably like the challenge
oh well RV is a mess and everybody has their own rules
but what i know right?
What we're saying is, it's not something to complain about. If it happens, you know the risk going in. Getting killed by other players is part of the risk of getting those goodies.
And really, the only ones hard to get while in the PvP zones are the temp powers and hunt badges. Exploration Badges and Plaques are quite easy. -
Quote:"Now listen guys, I know there's a war going on, and this is a battlefield, but I'm not interrested in your little war, I just want to pick these pretty little flow..." *ROCKET LAUNCHER TO FACE*If there is a football game going on you will be removed from the field. Since we lack a mechanic like that this analogy doesn't really work.
A more apt comparison would be you are wandering around a lovely wooded glade where there is a war being waged and you are wearing the uniform of a side. Telling the other side you are a pacifist and not interested in the war probably won't be very successful. -
Brand-X (DB/WP -original- & RAD/DP -current- with other builds thrown in], Dark God [soon to be rerolled as Demon Summoning/Dark Miasma - DS/DM is bringing nightmares to life not actual summoning demons from hell], and Jaslyn X [played by a different player currently] are triplets, created by the Longbow to be living weapons in human form. Scientist father, with no other hope to save a dying wife and his three unborn daughters, took up the offer to work with Longbow on their secret project as long they used his subjects.
Daughters and wife saved, things go awry much later.
Mu'Keeva (Mind/Elec Dom) has the blood of the Mu running through her veins.
Justice-Girl (Claws/Regen) is a clone of Ms. Liberty created by the Crey, that while she didn't get any of the memories of Ms. Liberty, she did gain her sense of morality and did find out who she was the clone of before escaping, and is why she got into becoming a hero. She secretly looked to Ms. Liberty as a mother figure and wanted to make her proud.
Justice-Girl was my first 50 (2 1/2 years in), and I think it was actually tying her to CoH lore, that made it fun for me to get her to 50 after always deleting and rerolling. -
Quote:You don't NEED the accolade. And grabbing the 1 exploration badge and clicking on 1 plaque, keeps you moving, sooo, they're quite easy to obtain. You after all don't NEED all the exploration badges.<sigh> and that's why these threads just end up getting silly. Take a look at the requirements for the "Megalomaniac" accolade. Question answered.
Badge count isn't PvE, it's just a bonus little fun mini-game. -
Quote:Do you stop attacking PvE mobs, when they get stuck in such way that they can be attacked, but don't fight back at all? Not counting holds, I mean they get stuck in the enviorment, they can be attacked and yet they can't attack back?Surely player versus player, means that both players are engaged in the PVP aspect.
Else it'd be player versus afker or player versus not intrested player, or indeed player versus not playing player.
Honestly given the balls'd up state of PVP there should be no PVE content in the zones, there certainly shouldn't be mobs in the zone, since they don't have PVP rules on them.
Same thing.
Player vs Player means exactly that...you're opponent is a player. If they're AFK, would rather not fight, suck at PvP...doesn't matter.
That is the risk vs reward.
As for PvE content in zones. Okay, ask the devs to change the badged needed for the redside accolades. PvE content is out of the zones.
Badges/Shivans/Nukes...those aren't PvE content. Those are bonuses from entering PvP zones, that can have an effect on the PvE game, but aren't needed at all for anything PvE related. -
Quote:Not with me Leo! Unless by concept you mean you plan to skip things like Mez Protection or you're heal and wonder why you keep dieing and blame it on the defender.WHOA! Wait a minute! I'm kinda new to Tankers, but is that what's going to be expected of me when I get to 50? Sport a specific IO build to fulfill the expectations of others?
Never on any of my other characters, am I pigeonholed into a build that might not even be the concept my character is aiming for (and I usually IO all my characters, or have a build planned for them). Maybe I'll just go back to the freer lifestyle of a scrapper or stalker then >_>
But certain IO builds? No. I haven't even seen such things in game when I play. Though, I have seen Kheldian discrimination on teams. But that's about it.
Oh and Energy Blasters. But not as often. -
Quote:Well, on WP, in PvE anyways, I find QR + Stamina + PP + Miracle + Numina + 3 Peformance Shifter Procs = END Drain Protection.I'd love to hear what people think about the Physical Perfection Epic power. I have been playing this game for many moons but didn't hear much when it came out and I haven't been around as much the last year due to work.
All that being as it is, I am rebuilding my Invul/SS and would like to add it in. I wanna know what people think about the power in general, slotting, is it a must-have, so forth, etc.
Thanks all
-Doc
And thusly, WP has pretty much every mez/exotic covered.
Can't be to much different for an INV I would think. -

Quote:I'm using the zone RIGHT NOW!!! :OOkay, I guess it's probably years since I took any of my toons into the shard all the way to the Storm Palace ... maybe two computers ago if I'm guessing right.
One word: WOW!
I saw meteorites striking the big floating Pokemon palace! I heard lightning! It was so much better than I remembered ...
For gosh sakes, Devs, do something! Use that cool zone for SOMETHING besides gathering dust! -
Quote:I'm pretty sure he was group FA/ and ELA/ with DA/.I call BS. You can spend a ton of money on any build, and KB IOs (other than the BotZ) are simply not that expensive compared to say, the LotG +Recharge IOs you see in high recharge builds of any type.
Recovery and +end are the critical bonuses for Dark besides KB protection, and if you stay away from the recovery uniques, quite cheap to acquire.
Defense *can* be expensive if, for instance, you go for a soft-capped build with a lot of Kinetic Combat sets, but setting your goals more modestly (using Smashing Haymaker instead of KC for example) you can save a lot of influence. In any case, IO'ing Dark for defense is no more expensive than doing the same for any all-resist set like Electric or Fire. (Actually, it's a little easier/less expensive on Dark because of CoD.)
It's hardly a surprise that slotting for defense specifically is more expensive on Dark than on defense sets like Ice or Shield. But again, how is Dark different from Fire or Electric in that regard? -
Forming now! 6:02 EST!!! Want in? Send tell to @BrandX now! Lvl 40+

I love CoH. But it does have a few things working against it.
1) I never even heard of CoH untill I saw it at Wal-Mart. So it's advertising isn't that great. That was at the start of i3 (been here since).
2) Alot of END Game for CoH, is get to 50, reroll toon. Alot of people in this game don't like to play their 50's. Seeing as how you don't need IO sets to beat anything in this game, they don't see a need to make the OMG I can DO THIS build.
3) System Requirements. WoW came out after CoH, and had less system requirements than CoH.
4) Open world. Face it, this is going to be something people like.
Now let's look at what CoH is marketed as...create your own superhero just like in the comics!
Yeah. Okay, there are the let's be silly all the time superhero comics, that would do such things. But...
How often do you see the Avengers/X-Men/Fantastic Four using the trolley?
We've gotten more costumization, but we're still very much limited in the hero we can build.
How many people have said "I want to make a DP/SR scrapper, only to have devs say no, and part of the community scoff at them?
Face it, alot of superheros in comics can fall into having some sort of Defense powerset when it comes to what they can do? Now I'm not saying they'd have as well of mez protection as Defense sets have in this game either...but it's just something that continues to work against it.
I've seen plenty of people say "I don't feel super" in this game. Some leave, some keep trying, some give up and realize they're just not going to get that feeling.
That isn't to say they can't, but it requires alot of work to get the "OMG! I feel like a real superhero! I can kick serious butt!" <.< "Hope I'm not late for the tram! Oh gawd I am! I better run!"
CO doesn't get it right either though. DCUO doesnt look like its going to get it right either. So, I think CoH is safe.
But put all that aside, CoH does have one thing going for it! All I ever hear is CoH has the best RP community. Right there is a reason for others to come to CoH! -
Quote:After a great deal of frustration playing my spines/dark scrapper, I scrapped his build and started all over again, ditching a lot of purples and the like in exchange for a more defensive focus.
Dark armour benefits so much from even a bit of defence. I worked to get 32.5% melee, with something like 25% smashing/lethal. I notice ranged opponents all the more, but what I really find sticking with me out of playing him now is how badly I want gauntlet and an area-effecting taunt to force opponents into melee range with me.
Dark Armour has an amazing heal, great resistances, and some fun stuff in its basket of tricks. If I was able to rely on teammates to provide it, I would definitely consider running things like Cloak of Fear (for the -tohit).
Oh, and:This statement casts all of this poster's commentary into question. Are you certain you're talking about tankers here, and not scrappers?
I'm more than willing to admit I'm wrong when I see a tanker hold ALL the aggro, just by punching it.
We'll run a STF, 1 tank, 6 blasters and 1 Thermal (to keep the Tank Shielded/Healed when facing off against LR)...last time I ran STF, Ice/Ice/Ice Tanker, running both auras, and using taunt and punching, and those AVs were still going (every now and again) lets go hit a squishy, before returning to the tank.
Just got off a great ITF, had 2 tankers, both using taunt, but during that last mission, I still seemed to get blasted, and I stayed at range. -
Quote:No.Imagine an Empathy/Traps or a Forcefields/Thermal or a Cold/Dark. Would a buff/buff set be viable? Those of us who love support roles would love to see this I think, but would it be overpowered? You could have it so the secondary is half as powerful as if it were a primary.
Thoughts?
Reason 1) They couldn't solo. Not only that, lets go the route of Sonic/Force Field. The buff everyone up, and then sit back and do nothing for a whole lotta levels and basically follow the team around. BTW: I realize both sets have a few other powers they could use, but how often do you really see those powers get used, that are offensive use on Force Fields?
Reason 2) It's bad enough we have so many Empaths running around. Why would we want this? It's not very comic book super hero. Read a comic book, how many empaths do you really see in comics? Not many at all. Let's not give people the chance to make EVEN more characters that fall so far out of comic book super heroes, that it's not even funny.
