I'd rather copy Soul Mastery over. Soul Mastery is a better Dark Mastery.

But if there are combinations that can leave you lungless after one mob, something, surely, is up. And, no, Im not being daft with power use. Brawl is used a lot. Minor powers for finishing off near dead stuff. And still, every mob, same story.
Level 22 and 3 slotted SO stamina seems to be helping a lot, thankfully.
If you're left lungless after one mob, on normal difficulty something is wrong with what you're doing. I've never been left lungless after one mob.

Are you just getting unlucky and missing an even level mob that much?

That's all fine and good. Yup, with Kheldian's you can come very close to a Dark/Defense or Energy/Defense, and with VEATs you can make PSI/Defense or Rifle (or Backpack)/Defense.

Now take those primaries, and make a Fire Blast/Defense or a DP/Defense.

as for saying Lrn2play, i never said that at all and don't appriciate words being put into my mouth. hence why i had the question mark after what i said. i have no idea if the person knows how to do this, so i made a questionable suggestion to help keep them out of melee. and as it may not be the best defense against enemy attacks, it is certainly worth the try as it does help prevent melee heavy npc's from hitting you.
Yes I've done it, but it means you're not constantly attacking. And I want to constantly attack. Though I don't find the constant jumping to keep you alive if you don't have a team to spread the aggro around.

As to if you're post meant "lrn2ply" or not *shrug* I know I know how to play. So, I wasn't to worried about it.

But Sam has a point as well. With ranged attacks that follow you, and the fact that all the target has to do, is use an attack right as you pass by, I don't find the constant jumping to help all that much on big groups.

Now hovering above them, when they can't fly, works very well.

It could very well be my playstyle, I admit this. Without hover on a toon, I have a horrible tendency to wind up in melee range. And I don't care much for kiting, as that means I'm busy running around and not button smashing my awesome attacks.

Well, Tankers (and usually Granite Tankers) are more team oriented, so the dmg/rch is less of a factor. IMO anyways.

I like staying at range, usually with hover on. my AR/EM is one of my favorite chars, hitting boost range + build up + full auto makes me giggle in glee each time. She's a cone wonder with shotgun and flamethrower also.

My DP/EM is also alot of fun, really feels it suits DP with it's curving bullet thing. Also have the tier 1 on energy on auto so if my target comes close, BAP! it flies away soaring in the sky
That it takes the knockback set for the knockback protection is also kinda nice imo. Much cheaper than slotting in a zephyrs.
And the 7.5% +RCH in the set is also nice
  9. Dual Pistols...

Hail of Bullets is getting buffed in i17 (60% chance for the ticks to go off vs the current 50%, as well as +Defense for 5 seconds), and it's just more fun

You then Mix in Single Target Blasts and Controls but very little AoE so that controllers are not marginalized. No need for melee attacks, but perhaps some could be added in the ancillary powers.

At the Tier 9 instead of Pets, you could have a Defender-Strength Nuke. It would be interesting to have an AT with both a primary and a secondary Crash power. But my original thought was to come up with a completely new and unique Tier 9 instead.
Hmmm...you know...going Defense/Range Set in order of powers might be the way to go, but even with that order, I'd say keep it at Scrapper levels of Defense.

Truthfully, if I was to make a Ranged/Defense (or Assault/Defense) AT, I'd have to say stick them with Stalker level Hit Points and Cap.

You're still squishy, even if you do get to play at range, and can still easily be taken out by enemies. Unless someone decides to play the hit then run away and heal up game, and return (but anyone can play that game )

    Ranged/Defense

Epics/PPP (Lvl 41 Ally Buff, Lvl 41 Melee Attack, Lvl 44 1 AOE BUFF, Lvl 44 1 Pet, Lvl 47 1 Enemy Debuff (better than current melee numbers...something that makes them WORTHWHILE in taking)

Inherent can be alot of different things, that don't cause imbalance. As well as lower damage mods than a Blaster (who as Ive said in another thread gets the better DPS when adding in the melee attacks, if I remember correctly)

The trick (which has already been bought up) is that it needs to not do so much Ranged damage as to render Blaster obsolete and not be so tough as to render Scrappers obsolete. To some extent the first requirement is already incorporated in the design of the Assault sets themselves. Assault sets do not have the ranged AoE capability of Blast sets; generally only having a cone for ranged AoE with all other AoEs being melee range. Thus they are forced to close to melee range if they want to maximize their AoE potential. So realistically I think the AT can be balanced with respect to Blasters simply by carful setting of the damage modifiers (I'd suggest 1.0 ranged and 1.1 melee)

The issue with not rendering Scrappers obsolete is a little trickier. Here are the unenhanced resistance values for Kheldians in Human form which is essentially an Assault/Defense AT (ignoring Eclipse for Warshades):
22.5/22.5/22.5/22.5/33.8/33.8/15/0 (Warshades also get 3.75% defense)

Now compare this to the resistance values for a few Scrapper sets:
    Electric: 26.3/26.3/26.3/26.3/61.9/22.5/0/26.3
    Fire: 22.5/22.5/67.5/15/22.5/22.5/15/0
Invulnerability: 33.8/33.8/15/15/15/15/15/0 (also has 7.5%-15% defense depending on how many enemies are in melee range)

So overall the Kheldian resistance values are in line with Scrapper values except that Khelds do not get status protection unless they go into Dwarf form (at which point they are no longer an Assault/Defense AT).

Now lets look at the Crab Soldier, unlike the Kheldians he does get status protection (except Knockback) alongside both Resistance and Defense. Specifically he gets (assuming Wolf Spider Armor is skipped):
Defense: 17.5 Ranged, 10% to all others (both Typed and Positional)
    Resistance: 18/18/25/25/25/25/2

Now for Scrappers there aren't really any direct comparisons but lets consider the two closest sets. Shield Defense gets 15% positional defense and 11.3% resistance to all but psi. Super Reflexes gets 19.5% positional defense plus scaling resistances at lower health. As with the Khelds these numbers are reasonably in line with the Scrapper numbers for similar sets.

So in conclusion since the EATs are already Assault/Defense ATs with Scrapper level defenses I think a generic Assault/Defense AT could be made without marginalizing either Scrappers or Blasters simply by giving it lower damage modifiers than they have. Besides, both ATs were marginalized in team play by Defenders years ago.

In terms of powersets, I'd say for the Assault sets replace Power Boost with Build Up since Power Boost would be problematic for the AT. Additionally for secondaries Shield would have to be left out since the assault sets use Blast set animations involving both arms.
I'd agree with keeping Power Boost out of a Ranged/Defense set.

Mind you though, I like the idea of Ranged/Defense over Assault/Defense (but that's for one purely selfish reason called "Dual Pistols" )...

I tried to find the list of the OMG RECHARGE of Blaster primaries...I don't recall them being all that. If I remember correctly, wasnt the best dps available for Blasters, needing to use melee attacks as well?

Eh...I looked for 30mins couldnt find it.

Low Hit Points (Stalker level with Stalker cap)

Stalker Secondaries (replacing hide with a level 1 Stealth power at 3.75% defense to all)

With an inherent power that doesn't help give lots of added damage to DPS (which criticals, fury, and defiance do).

With VEATS (I dont mention HEATS, purely because VEATS have mez protection, while HEATS need to switch to Drawf) already proving you can be RANGED/DEFENSE and not be a tankmage, I fail to see how this AT would be a tank mage.

I have a 50 blaster. I'm working on my second one now. Staying at range is never all that easy outside of hovering. Enemies keep attacking and are able to run in on me, if I keep attacking.

I find my blaster in melee WAY more than I think a blaster should be in melee. I see alot of blasters get into this situation as well, more so if they lack Hover.
  13. You know...I've never turned off the in game advertisements, and yet, Ive never seen a single ad.

In fact, a SG member and I were in GC, and she saw one, and was amazed by it, and when I looked over, I didn't see it at all.

Needless to say, I was disappointed.
  14. I was once asked how I could skip my team mate rez on my ILL/RAD (never on my RAD/DP), and my reply was...

"You don't ask for a RAD/ for their rez power"

And Sam, I think the reason the rez's don't work on the pets, is because they can't answer yes/no to the "do you want to rez". It's only my guess though. Could be a different reason entirely.

Gravity and Ice show the best synergy. Ice because with artic air/shiver/iceslick you can get up close and unleash you melee attacks. Ice would be my top pick to pair with Earth Assualt. My current toon is Gravity/Earth and he is a blast to play. Gravity is good because the immobilizes still allow for knockdown/knockup which Earth is jammed full of.

My grav/earth is a blast to play fun animations, fun powers and you leave a trail of rocks and propel waste everywhere. If you have any leaning towards a min/max dominator I would look elsewhere, but if you want a different playstyle/versatile toon Ice/Earth or Grav/Earth might be for you.
Hmmm...I dunno..I've been loving my Fire/Earth. AOE Stun and AOE Hold are my only real mitigation outside of knockdowns/up.

See, I disagree with this statement.

I think people need to realize that's it's IOs and power selection that make such sets great.

I'm telling you now, yes Shield Charge is a great attack, it's lots of damage and fun to use.

However, the set isn't all that untill IOed out.

Have you teamed with a Shield Tanker with no IOs and no Tough/Weave? I did for an ITF, kept dying, and that was with debuffs going on, but no ally buffs outside of +END/+RCH.
  18. Truthfully, it's never bothered me.

However, if I saw a Dark Miasma user skip it, I'd be sad. Not because of the rez, but because that's an AOE STUN AND A -REGEN DEBUFF that they're skipping.

    The other rez's...*shrug*.

It's nice when they someone has it, but not anything I'm worried about.

It's not like they're skipping ally buffs (SB, Shields, ect ect)

Exactly! And thus why they WANT Fitness. Again, not a NEED. They WANT it.

And yes, they're normally fit. So they take the FITNESS pool. But not taking it, lets them do their concepts of not being fit.

    It's not a NEED power.

    It's a WANT power.

You can do anything in this game without the use of Stamina. The whole team can be lacking in +END means power wise, and do ANYTHING in this game.

It's called REST, ENDRED, and +END Inspirations.

Stamina is a WANT power, because people WANT to move at a faster pace. People WANT to hurry along.

Has anyone ever looked at it like this (using a recent comment made in another thread)...

Superheroes are usually portrayed as OMG HOT (men and women) when in reality it's not to farfetched. Why isn't it farfetched? Look at what they do. They maintain constant FITNESS.

If your hero isn't the type to maintain constant FITNESS (ie skip it), then you're more likely to need to REST or find some INSPIRATION to keep going.
