You know of Titan Weapons, Staff Fighting, Street Justice and Beam Weapons. You had all the the time you needed to know, to save points.

Power sets cost 800 points? Okay then. Save points untill you have enough to cover the following power sets, spend only the extra points you have laying around after you have the points for those sets!

So in this case...650 (or was it 600 for Beam Rifle the first few days?) that left you with 150-200 extra to play around with...don't play around with any more free points (unless you plan to actually buy points of course, then spend them as much as you want)...untill the next set is released!

I see you skipped grant cover. I thought it was needed to cap -def debuff resistance?
Like I said, friend isn't worried to much about being all that. And needed LBE and Afterburner.
  3. Here's a build I made for a friend of mine, some expensive enhancements in there, but seeing as how you have three purple sets going on in your build, I don't think this build will phase you at all.

Also, it's intended more for my friends requests, so obviously I'm just giving it for you to look over for some ideas, rather than outright change your build, but I did replace Initial Strike (with 6 slotted Touch of Death) with Sweeping Cross (with 6 slotted Obliviation) for you, as they both give the same +Melee Defense.

My friend wasn't looking for the BEST OF THE BEST builds, not looking to solo AVs, prefers to team, wants to be survivable, maaaybe farm on some really rare occaission (I've never seen her farm, but I think she just wants to feel like she could if she wanted...which maybe not the best farmer, I think they'd do adequate with this build), and have the concepty powers of LBE and Afterburner.

So for you to look over and pick apart and do with as you will.

Ok! Look up at your bolded part.

If you wasted your freebie points on those items, then it's your own fault if you don't have the points to get the power sets for free.

Beam Rifle (which came out with a discount) and Street Justice.

Two sets needed to be purchased.

Everyone who was a subscriber in the months of July, August and September got Paragon Points! Right there is 1200 Paragon Points.

You will also get more Paragon Points in October on your subcription renewal date.

You just got the standard content that you used to get before i21, FREE! \o/

Oh, did you spend those free points? Yeeeaaah. Remember those times before i21, when you had to buy booster packs, character xfers, rename tokens...yeeeaaah...this is just like then, only you get the option to say "Forget this powerset, I'll never play it, I'd rather have a costume slot instead of this dreck!" and actually get it! \o/

Of course you might say to yourself, "I want it all!" well, you had to pay for all those extra before, why'd you think that would change?

That's the point though. See they give you these free points in hopes you'll spend them on that costume slot, that increase salvage storage, those xp boosters, so when they release the new sets, you'll be "WANT NOW" and then pay money!

But you weren't the type to ever pay for anything extra before? Then better save those points! Don't start buying things you wouldn't have bought before, just because it seems like it's a free option now. Because it isn't. In fact, with Titan Weapons and Staff Fighting on the way, I'd guess at a new powerset every 2 months (in the first few months anyways) to keep people spending money!

Combat Readiness is amazing, however, it only really starts to shine when you get your second finisher at 18.
3 combos -> Spinning Strike -> Combat Readiness -> Reposition and Sweeping Cross

It's the sexiest thing ever when one of the finishers crits.

Anyway, you're not going to feel that much of a hit for not taking CR right away.
This is true. Especially with the building combo points being so quick.

They are going to have to make some sort of adjustment for this fact or wind up with some very bitter and vocal players.

Its a very weak set as it stands in my opinion.

The game moved on from single target damage about 10 issues ago. This is a fact not opinion. No purples means dead weight, and the only way to earn purples is farming, you dont need great aoe, but you need acceptable.

And then back to my opinion, StJ does not have acceptable aoe.
Or they teach players to not buy every new set that comes out, and wait for the verdicts to arrive on it first.

It's just common sense of course, when one figures that every new set might not be the new Number ONE set in it's category.

So, if you're only going to play a set based on it's numbers, wait to buy! Continue playing only those top 1 and two sets!

I do admit changing Sweeping cross would make lowbies less effective but regardless of how much you farm, I guarantee any character that actually gets played is going to spend a lot more time beyond level 18 than below.

I actually like Sweeping Cross's animation speed and damage even at combo level 0. I think it is very effective and far superior to comparable powers like Shadow Maul. My only problem with the power is that it either costs combo points which I'd rather spend on SS, or I use it at combo level 0, in which case it bypasses the mechanic completely which I don't think is a fair solution.

The phrase you used "have your cake and eat it too" is actually a fair way of describing my proposal but it also gives me an idea of an apt amendment to it: instead of removing it as a finisher, how about altering finishers so that if they are used at combo level 0, they act as a builder? Seems fair to everyone and a suitable buff.

Finally, I'd like to say I appreciated your post. I am not saying that in some kind of condescending or snarky manner, I thought it was well thought out and I enjoyed reading it.
If you use Combo Builder Attack x3 -> Spinning Strike -> Combo Builder Attack x3 -> Sweeping Cross -> Repeat, you don't lose out on any of the Level 3 Finisher, and it's easy enough to get the recharge to pull this off!

Now, if you get the recharge to surpass this, isn't that all apart of finding the sets best DPS? Look at Dual Blades, it's best DPS chain isn't even a Combo.

You're spending free points on content that you had to pay for before anyways, then complaining about having bought more points to buy something that would of been free, if you had saved you free points.

ITs inferior to SS in both single and aoe damage.

The set was changed from the time it came off beta but before live, and did not go back on test.

This feels rather bait and switch, even though it wasnt nerfed live.

To move onto a general point, will we be able to get refunds on sets, powers, etc that we feel disappointed with.

There was no way to view the real stats before purchasing, so again I feel this was a somewhat deceptive.

I am EXTREMELY unhappy with this.
Next time, wait to buy it instead of going "Oh somethign new! I must buy it now!"

Don't spend your FREE Paragon Points, on extra costume slots, costume sets, respecs, extra enhancement slots, inspiration storage...and basically anything and everything that you would of had to have paid for before i21, and you know what? You'll have free power sets just like you did before.

You can't really blame NCSoft for your impulsiveness.
More players need to realize this.

    I have to ask.

Why didn't you wait to buy it? You're paying for a set. If you care this much about performance, you don't go buying it as soon as it's released, you get details on it first.

And in fact, this is preferable, as if more people do this, then the more likely the sets are going to be AWESOME, as the more players like you, the more they'll have to up the sets as they go along, to make sure they sell them.

Seriously, I loved dual pistols, heard nothing but complaints, and went to incarnate with it.

Loved Gravity Controller... ok, nuff said.

    Love this.
Oh, I don't figure any set that players will have to purchase will be crappy sets. Not if they want to sell them.

I still havent bought Beam Rifle because I feel the animations are just boring. Now I'm basing that off animations...if it's the min/maxer's dream, Im sure they care less about the animations, but from what I hear it's an awesome set.

For the tank, I suggest ELA! Why? For one, SR is just kinda...boring. Toggle and go, just like WP.

Next, ELA just isn't used as much with the StJ pairing. In all the StJ users I saw yesterday (and I by no means saw them all), I saw one FA Brute, a couple Regen Brutes, and everything else being SR, INV, WP, EA (I can only assume that's because of it's recent buffs).

Why not go after something that gives a 20% +Recharge, and awesome slow resist (40% which when combined with a Winter's Gift IO, is 60%), can get to 90% S/L Resist, and still hit 45% S/L Defense.

You get all the ELA powers early which is nice, so END problems are less of a worry, and added AOE damage with the damage aura.

For Tanker, that's what I would go with...the fact that I hadn't seen one makes it seem like an even better reason to go for it.

As for EA on the Scrapper, sure, why not.

Street Justice makes me think Martial Arts could be REALLY cool if they added Dual Pistol style animations to it, and some other minor tweaks.

I feel a bit ripped off by the new set because I am a VIP player so.... I kept asking myself, why am I paying for this? I felt a little taken advantage of by paying my monthly fee, twice this month already just to enjoy content I apparently subscribe to.

I blame myself though. I got caught up in what I call 'Sewer Justice' and had to have one. The problem is when you've played nearly everything that interests you in this game, and have explored most of the content, it's easy to get sucked in.

That being said, I actually really enjoy the set. The sounds, and moves are what make it though. There very well may be MUCH more.... potent melee sets out there, but this is a very bone crushing, visceral, and violent looking set (no pom poms here, k, thnx)

As I hit a meager level 19, I'd have to say this set won't last longest with the min max types. It will last with concept players, and people who love the feel of a very batman-esque, bone-snapping, power set.
If you had saved your points, instead of buying all those other things that one would normally have had to bought pre-Freedom, you wouldn't have felt ripped off.

That's the real catch though. They're giving you free points to buy the stuff you normally would of gotten for free, then enticing you with all these other things, so when that normally free item pops up, you still have to lay down cash or wait for it.

    Just saying.

As for StJ, worth the purchase, which is basically me making sure I had 800 points at all times, while spending cash to get points and buying things up slowly.

As for min/maxers, not if they're going for OMG THE AOE. And when paired with Shields for Scrappers, I would think that's some decent AOE.

Honestly, if doing the most damage is what you're looking for then Scrappers is probably what you want, as their damage output is steadier than a Brute's. I'd say go Stalkers, but honestly, that AT's playstyle is one of particular player choice, and if you enjoy it then go for it.

If you want the potential for doing lots of damage, but a bit more survivability, then go Brute.

However, if you want to do pretty decent damage (even for a Tanker) and be really survivable, then go Tank. You'll still solo quite well, and if team tanking is something you like as a player, none of the other melee ATs do it as well as a Tank.

What I particularly like about choosing a Tank is that if you're looking to level on a budget, and want to be really survivable, it's easier to soft-cap Tanks with defense sets then it is for the other melee ATs.
The OP seemed more inclined to go Brute or Scrapper. And basically, going Tanker tends to mean you care less about damage and more on survival.

Scrappers and Brutes tend to be pretty much even.

However, if I was to suggest a pairing for Tankers...

Electric Armor or Shield. ELA can get so close to 90% S/L Resist (maybe even get there) and 90% Energy Resist, while having decent resists in everything else, and you can build for S/L Defense.

Shield will grant the softcap defenses, AAO for additional damage and Shield Charge for additional AOE.

Next would be Fire Armor for the additional damage.

But if seeing the toons rolled up during this on Virtue, StJ being paired with SR, INV, WP, and EA seem to be the common choices, with a few Regens on Brute side. But this was all just with what I saw. Didn't see to many Stalkers, but saw a couple.

If you're going to go Shield, you still go Scrapper

Just how it is Ryu (well you know, if your going for numbers anyways)

    /Fire Armor? Brute.

    /Electric Armor? Brute.

/Energy Aura? Scrapper, because they win out in the damage, and you're defense based, so higher HP is a little less of a worry, and they get the heal sooner.

    /Super Reflexes? Brute.

    /Regen? Brute.

/INV? Scrapper. Defense again, not going to reach over 75% S/L Resist solo, so go for more damage!

/WP? Toss up! More HP for more Regen or more damage!

/Dark Armor? I want to say Brute, but it really feels like another toss up to me.

/Stone Armor? Only have one choice!

And that's how I see it anyways. if going by just numbers.
