Quote:If you want Attack Vitals and Sweep to have the useful combos, then skip Confront and Nimble Slice. The main reason I stopped playing my dual blades toon is the very fact that I had to take like... nearly every power in the set just to have the most useful combos (in my opinion). I don't have room or desire to have 8 attacks on my main bar :P
So, I'd support this as it would allow me to take FAR less attacks, and still play the way I like without making the set overpowered.
That's 7 out of 9 powers taken. Do you need Confront/Taunt?
I've found Attack Vitals, Blinding Feint, and Typhoon's Edge to be plenty of attacks myself, though I fully admit it limits the AOE.
I haven't found Dual Blades combo system to be at all hard to use or understand. It's missing not at hard to live with, you miss with the last attack int he chain, is like missing with your hardest hitting attack...no different.
What does need reworking is Stalker's Dual Blades combo system, because it sucks to no end. -
Quote:What? I don't want the golden title. I wouldn't use these sets because of the golden title. I just think that's what should go along with making Hero Patron Pools, as I don't see the reason to make them outside of people saying...Alright. How about this: If you run a given patron arc, when you complete that arc, a window pops up which reads: "Congratulations! You have just complete X's Training! You have unlocked the option to carry the following title: X's (Student/Sidekick/Ally/Whatever)!" and there is a pair of buttons: Accept, and Decline. Accept, there's your title. Decline, you don't get the title. Congratulations.
There. Now BrandX gets her golden hood ornament, and we can just say no and get on with our lives. Everyone gets a choice.
"I want Shadow Meld, without having to go Red Side, so let's make a Hero Patron that gives me the equivalent of that."
Before we had the ability to take Ancillary Pools AND Patron pools, no one wanted Patron Pools, because they felt like the Patron pools made you a lackey. Now its more about trying to get ahold of blueside equivalent of redside patron powers, but not having to go through the process of alignment change.
I want the gold title attached to it for a few reasons...
I want to see the Hero Patrons have an AWESOME AWESOME OMG IS THIS POSSIBLY GAME BREAKING final teir power. For it to be a set that people look at and go "OMG! I CAN'T NOT HAVE THIS POWERSET IF I WANT TO STAY MIN/MAXED!"
Seeing as how Hero Patron's would mean storyline involved, and storyline wise the character wouldn't be an incarnate yet (as they'd unlock at lvl 34, so you can select the first power at level 35), they are in fact, not all powerful (which I find funny to hear people say...well see people write...as when I say, how does one feel so powerful when they need a group of 7 other people to help beat on an AV...so why is it bad that I want to make my character beable to solo AVs) as they're not lvl 50 yet, and they're not incarnates yet, and the fact that Hero Patron sounds like "I'm the sidekick" Pool...well then....
That leads to the gold title! Let's make the sets so enticing to grab, we see who's willing to grab that set and be stuck with the title of sidekick! Seeing as how many players don't seem to even care about the storylines and such things, I imagine many won't even care. For the few that do, they can really look at it and weigh the options.
And then after all that...for all that OMG AWESOME POWER...I can avoid using it! \o/ As really, my character is no one's sidekick.
Sounds like a great idea to me. And why I want it to be this way. And why I don't want it to just be "Here, have Villain Patrons without having to change alignment to get those powers." -
Quote:Interresting, I've heard of worse things happening on the 800lb gorilla of MMOs.I quit the game when the Invention System was first in beta. At the time, CoH was well regarded in the mmo community for it's friendly and welcoming playerbase. That was CoH's greatest appeal.
I came back to the game in April to a very different atmosphere. I have played 9 (that I can recall) MMOs besides CoH and the current playerbase seems to be the most toxic of the bunch. Just a quick browse of these forums is a testiment to that - a horrendous amount of posts contain personal insults between peers. This isn't something that was particularly common prior to my leaving CoH.
Is this a consequence of the Invention and Incarnate systems and a shift to a system more prone to power-gaming?
What as a community can we do to bring CoH's atmosphere back to it's former glory?
And I havent found the atmosphere of CoH to be all that different now than from what it was way back in i3.
Same attitude new arguements/debates.
What?! You didn't 6 slot Stamina with END REC SO'S?! No wonder you're running out of END so fast! YOU NOOB!
See. Same thing, different wordings.

Quote:I wasn't even thinking of long recharging powers. I was thinking, here's a power that can't have it's recharge increased at all, now I get to double use it every now and againYup I think there's more use for Burnout when combined with excessively long recharging effects (T9's and Conserve Power) than for much else. I would look more at you have outside of your primary instead.

Quote:This is myproblem with weapon sets as well.I kinda of agree that it seems a little silly at this point.
What's more immersion breaking.... having a huge weapon suddenly appear in your hand and whacking a goon over the head with it?
Or having a huge weapon suddenly appear on your back where it hovers there a few inches off your back until you reach back and grab it.
*shrug* IMHO they are about the same. So why have it at all and punish me for using click heavy secondaries and power pools?
Get a weapon? Feel screwed over by going Regen, and having to click often. :/ -
StJ/WP
Conserve Power -> Strength of Will -> Burnout -> Strength of Will

I'm not against Hero Patrons actually. I just think...
1) People didn't like Villain Patrons being unlocked or tied to the signature characters...now...it's "I want powers like the Villain Patrons, without having to go evil to obtain them"
2) No matter how much people want to say it's not, Hero Patron sounds like Sidekick to me, and I'd like to keep it that way with a Gold Title
3) People love gold titles! Or they wouldnt go out and get them when the Devs are there to pass them around.
4) Whatever you do come up with for Hero Patrons, why not just make them part of the existing Anicillary Pools? Go beyond the five powers! In fact, add more, as my Scrapper still doesn't have a Cold Mastery, or a decent Energy/Body Mastery. Also, tier them out and stop with the need this power requirement first (this make me sad the most) -
Quote:Temporal Armor! Could take a fw cues from Time Manipulation set.Maybe they should make radiation sets. Offensive and defensive. But in all seriousness, there really isn't much left since Psychic would just be the combination of a few other sets. Seems most good ideas have used. Other ideas do arise, but technical issues stop them, such as power armors or similar natures.
Shapeshifting set be nice though, like the Granite armor so animations stay similar.

Quote:No more idiotic than having to take a hero as your patron. You're so powerful, why do you need a Patron? How can you get rid of something that doesn't exist yet?
And I've been stressing choice. Just give me the option not to take it, while still getting to play the content.
EDIT- also, really dreadful title suggestions. I don't want my level 50 +4 Incarnate that's beat the snot out of Recluse, Emperor Cole, Nemesis, Dimensional gods, alien invaders, and elite paramilitary groups to be lugging around "Sidekick."
That's idiotic. -
Quote:Having played a /Sonic Defender. You'll do enough damage solo, as to not matter. No really...solo wise, I havent seen much of a difference between Defenders/Corrs to really make it that big of a difference in who you solo with. That was about my initial thought process as well, but I've never played Kin on a Defender, so I have no idea if the damage cap would actually be an issue without other buffers.
Personally, I'd say Defender with this combo. Why? Because the important blasts can be gotten by lvl 28 at the latest. The nuke isn't important (imo) enough to worry about getting it at lvl 32.
More -Resist is good for you and the team. -

True Crushing Uppercut won't be up often enough to make use of two purple procs. So, my best bet is to go with Crushing Impact and the Hold Purple Proc.
I liked the idea of the Lockdown Proc to turn the Mag 3 Hold in CU (at level 3) to a mag 5 (chance of anyways). But I think I'll go the more damage route. -

Quote:And my thought is, do we get to get rid of everything that people don't like? I like the idea, I hope it happens. You missed the point entirely.
What about the option of "I don't want garish, ugly yellow text following me around,"?
Yeah, I could turn stuff off, but I find the titles and names above people's heads useful, and would still like to have my own name and title up there, just not with a nasty yellow sign up there.
So then my choice is, what, back to not playing the content again because I'll be forced to select one of seven things tacked onto my name? nope. Stupid idea.
Badge, then I can choose if I want any title or no title.
I mean, I realize this is all hypothetical and will likely never happen ,but Devs, please, if you're reading this, no arbitrary yellow titles ever please. I'd like to play the content without having something ugly next to my name. Thanks.
Devs if you're listening, please make it happen if you do this!
"Positron's Sidekick" "Numina's Sidekick" "Synapse's Sidekick" ...act these are titles we need to have happen if this suggestion happens!

What does everyone think the best slotting for Crushing Uppcut is?
Right now, I'm looking at 5 Crushing Impacts and a Lockdown Proc (this is a StJ/Regen).
However, I could move the 5 Crushing Impacts to Shin Breaker, and 5 slot CU with the Purple set.
I could also replace the Lockdown Proc with the Purple Hold Sets Smashing Damage Proc.
For a regular DPS chain, Shin Breaker will see more use however, so seems best to keep the Purple Set in Shin Breaker (more chances for the proc). But not so sure if I should keep the Lockdown Proc over the Purple Damage Proc in CU. -

Quote:Actually, you do get the choice of the Gold Title, what you thought I meant only one gold tile option? You'd look at the list of Hero Patrons (let's say there are seven of them)...then decide which of those seven's gold title makes you the happiest, and that's the one you choose.That's...no.
Saying "Don't play game content if you don't want an extra name floating over your head!" is dumb. If sticking names and titles next to my own were mandatory (as you are proposing) for big missions/arcs, I'd never play them because I don't want "Rule of Three" or "Positron's Ally" next to my name. That's lame. I want to pick something more befitting my character, not have something thrust upon me.
Granting a badge gives players a CHOICE of using it as a title instead of forcing a set title upon them. Choices are always better than mandatory settings. Always.
Granting a badge like the villains gives players the choice of having a title or not, and they still get to experience the content and unlock powers. Denying players the choice of getting new powers or running new missions because they don't want a garish title above their name is silly.
It's be like automatically assigning the "HELPER" title to anyone whose subscribed for more than two years.
"Well if you don't want that title, stop playing at 23 months!"
Obviously that's an extreme and unrealistic example, but it's the same basic premise as what you're proposing which is...you know...not a good idea.
See, SEVEN CHOICES! \o/ It's all about choices!
Not to mention, you can always make it so you never see the gold title, by turning off the option to see the name of the character floating above their head. -
I believe all the power descriptions you can find in game label the damage type as smashing.

Quote:When they said limited time, my first thought was that they meant "Halloween Time Only" sale. Which imo is okay.Maybe I'm just paranoid, but this makes me a bit uncomfortable..."Limited items" are a dark path, one which I really don't want CoX going down. I mean, if this is going to be a "Limited EVERY Halloween" thing, then I'm cool with it. In that case if I decide not to get it now I'll have a chance next year. But if CoX is going to start doing "one-time-only" bull**** then I'm going to lose alot of love for the game. Witht he exception of anniversary and unique event badges, nothing is truely "limited".
That said...
Dear Devs,
Please grant the ability to have glowing eyes with the Bat Aura.
Thanks for listening.

Quote:If they dont want the title, they can easily avoid getting it by not unlocking them. That was exactly what I was going to say.
Also if players were stuck with a title over their heads that they could never get rid of, I can only imagine the forum meltdown that would result as certain forum posters would be starting up multiple complaint threads about it.
As DMystic wrote itÂ’s better to just award a badge at the end of the arc & leave it to the player to decide whether or not to use it as a title.
And the gold title would grant a gold title that is unique to the patron the character unlocks the pools from.
I mean if you're going to look at everything from the perspective of the Villain Patrons, then are the Hero Patrons going to be locked into just one set for a few years before you're able to select any of them with just one story arc?
Make something new. And everyone loves getting gold titles, or else they wouldn't go to the events to grab one, or select HELPER or HELP ME, to obtain a title.
And for the few who don't care for it, they can, like I said, not run the arc. Or just live with it, and turn off ability to see their name/title. -
DB/SR
Obtaining Blinding Feint -> Attack Vitals Combo -> Repeat is easy enought o do for good ST DPS, the set comes with good AOE, and you don't need a lot of +RCH, as SR's powers don't require it, and Dual Blades doesn't require much to pull off that combo I mentioned. -
Quote:I'd say you're wrong on that.Your assumption...while humorous...is untrue...as I already have and use weave.
Don't get me wrong...I absolutely know that I am in the minority here...as most players only care about numbers.
The look of my character is tops for me. Whether I'm playing CoH or when I was playing Champions...the look is the most important thing for me. Although my OP was more along the lines of venting and ranting...FX (and hopefully the option to remove FX in the future) is something I definitely care about...because it does get to a point of where you really have to sacrifice for your look...and that is very unfortunate.
But here's the thing. You say you only care about the looks, but then how do you deal with all those powersets with graphics attached to them?
Do you not roll ELA, FA, EA? Those options to hide INV, WP, SR, REGEN graphics...yeeeaaah, havent had those options for even half the time those powers were available.
I use Hasten on a character with Hasten...I don't think their hands glow, I think it's just an effect of the power to let the person know they activated it. It's not that hard to live with.
Now of course, some will incorporate such graphics into their characters, but I know I never thought any of my Regen characters where glowing bright green everytime they healed damage, as part of their concept.

Quote:What does that matter? Because the Patrons don't have them, means the Hero ones don't?Except, you don't get such a beauteous golden title from the villainous Patrons. And the individual heroes wouldn't realistically have the time to train thousands of individual heroes on a one-to-one basis, due to all their heroic duties, which is why the Patrons I suggested were along organizational lines. Technically, the original patrons are drawn from organizations as well. (Widows/Fortunata=GW(Soul), Crabs=Mako(Technically breaks this rule), Mu=Scirocco(Mu), Wolf Spiders=Scorpion(Mace))
If that really matters that much, have the Villain Patrons give a badge, and the Hero Patrons give a gold title. Then it's all evened out. -
Quote:There is a reason to keep it! It's called a knee to the face! This is the way to go. Me and eth_Nargy talked about this at some length and really there is no better attack to pull, unless for some reason you wanted to lose one of the combo finishers, which I can't imagine.
The attack really doesn't do enough (Secondary wise) to warrant keeping it. For the very odd time when things aren't hitting enough to fill my entire attack chain, I have a single +acc/+dmg IO in Punch (Fighting) to fill that gap.... But at... 40+ that gap very rarely happens.
Just my two cents. -
I'm still prefereing Young Face 6 on my main than any other face avilable to females. And yes, I prefere the older style faces to the Steampunk and Halloween style faces (whch are all just terrible).
