A few days ago I tried to enter the RWZ and the map went white. i was in the RWZ, but could only see a few doors and random individuals. Whn I tried to move I rubberbanded. I had to fly or kept falling as well. i got out with Pocket D VIP pass. Last night the same thing happened when I went to Talos Island. I got out same way, went back, again it was bugged. Anybody know why entire sections of the city are disappearing? (I suspect a Nemesis plot...)

Can you slot multiple Procs for diff damage in say jab, and will each have a chance of firing? Just wondering how to turn the super blah into the super funny now that I plan to be using it a lot more. Thx for the bruising thread Elfis btw.
-
For Fire AE farming I use a SO only SS/Fire/Mu Brute build. Then i just keep creating/eating purps and oranges, with my def and res to fire always displayed. Beyond that it is just hit one AoE after another and laugh until the boredom sets in. Then I go do something else. I built the farmer to make money in a closet, not to cost me money.
-
Wow! okay, its official. Before every Knockout blow I smack that boss with, he is gonna get a quick jab. thanks for the info.

You can get Def to 75%???? It took like 7 billion to get a softcap build for my Willpower ( I am estimating, had some stuff laying around bases )

Quote:Okay Vox, you got me. in my heart I know its a wasted power, but the danged thing is fun. I'll stop trying to justify myself. roflmaoIf you're just using a regular build without a lot of set bonuses, etc, Handclap can definitely come in handy. Certain enemy combinations can start to whittle you down fast and Handclap gives you a nice reprieve.
As you upgrade to a more powerful build, Handclap becomes less useful. But it's still fun, and fun's my #1 priority. (Which is why I also took Whirlwind.) -
Quote:I have seen some people that could stand around and just do a ton of damage looking good. Unfortunately, it was never me. Yes, i do use my vet attacks during the crash, but it's always a judgement call. The 1st use of Rage crash time always goes to taunting. If I am surrounded by tons of mobs, I will hit sands of Mu. Too much good damage to ignore hitting 2 or 3 with that thing. the ranged attack is more iffy, because I like to use it on things like sappers and surgeons, but it usually won't kill them. Of course, if I am in the grill of an AV I definitely let loose with both of those. Inspiration management is really important to me, combining, deleting, etc. Keeping a hot mix always makes me feel better. Crash time is always good for that. I played Brutes for years, and Tanks rarely. Therefore I had a different relationship with agro and damage. I am really trying to embrace being an agro sponge now, and while I am trying to do damage still, it is not my primary goal. I am really trying to learn how to scoop up stray mobs and keep control of the teams speed. You have to be a little bit psychic to be a good tank. Where will this mob go? Where will the Scrapper break off to? Are they gonna follow me in or expect me to pull to them real quick? Having little psychic aptitude I am trying to cheat by getting a lot of experience. Rage crash time is an excellent time to observe conditions and plot the next minute of combat. In a broader sense, though, the vet attacks are generally worse than your own attacks. You mostly want to use them when you're not able to use other attacks (too low level, recharge debuffing, rage crashes, you're a Controller...) and they're a lot better at DPS than standing there looking pretty.

I tanked Recluse with my new Def softcap build on a Willpower tank about a week ago. Just used hover pack and taunt to keep him climbing that one tower until the team had the pylon thingys down. I actually pulled him to the floor and faced off against him center court while they worked on the last one. (Somebody said all the damage dealing pylons were down, not sure what they meant, but good team leader, i took his lead)
Anyways, he never touched me that i could tell. Maybe I got lucky.
To Ribic's point, this guy is a hoot to run. i use him for all TF and stuff. Good times. -
You make a good argument Elf. (In another world were you a pimp named slickback?) I'm gonna think seriously about switching out of it. I'll play it for another month or two though. I use the vet powers. If I am neck deep in mobs sands of Mu hits mult targets. The blackwand is okay. I learned recently that the RNG for attacks has a default floor. It will not let you miss beyond a certain percentage, based on the worst ACC attack you are using. I am reserching (slowly as usual) how this logic affects attack chains and DPS. Why use even a high dam attack, if it causes your % chance to hit to go down on your bread and butter attacks? That is one of the many strange thoughts I am trying to reconcile in my strategy and tactics. But again, good point about stunning minions. Thank you.

Thx Maelwysalts. I do like a cogent reply. THis helps a lot.

Quote:Fair question. I had mostly stopped my city addiction when my wife started a tabletop storytelling game. Really a continuation of a very long series of games in D&D, Champions, VampthePerpetualHassle, Hunter the Reckoning, and Call of Cthulu. She weaves the plotlines across games, dimensions, etc. So i made up a city character as an online avatar for her game. The best match for my character in her game is a Will/SS/Energy Tanker. My wife is desperately trying to tp wrap up quite a few long term plotlines. Her game should last 1 year plus I figure. I want this to be my main in the city for that long. So I researched over the last month and grabbing a build off the boards made 2 tiny tweaks and put it in. I didnt count the cost, but it wasnt light. Paid 2.5 bill for the Glad +3% def alone. It is a fully softcapped 45% def to all types but Psi monster, 35% to Psi. It is fun to run. It will be the build I run 98% of the time. But, there is always more. When running with 7 tanks on Tanker Tuesday, or 3rd Tank on a TF with SG mates (remember, I am not alting) I need a build that can pour out as much damage as possible, for fun and so I can help more. So, that is why I narrowed the parameters to a Will/SS/NRG tank, and why I want a pure damage buildout. One quick question - I'm currently building a new high damage tank (Electric/SS), this will not be a scranker it will be a true tank capable of holding aggro, surviving and dishing out alot of damage.
IO's will be used to cap/near cap defense and the incarnate system will give me the extra recharge to stack rage.
So my question is why don't you do something similar and have one great build that is good for all occasions rather than split them out into damage and survivability?
With my 3rd buildout I may try to do the balancing act you suggest. But at 7 bill or so per buildout it starting to tax the coffers lol. -
about every minute and a half on a medium high recharge tank/brute. It is more the fact that during the rage crash this can be one of the few powers available to you. sure mag 2 stun. very low, true. huge AoE. Knockdown/knockback, for further mitigation. and a chance to repostion opposing mobs. Oh, and you do not have to limit yourself to only using it during rage crashes, when you get good with it as part of your toolkit it is always there waiting.

Quote:Trollz like you are why I hate these boards sometimes. every post you made in this conversation is an attempt to start an argument. I have been clear and straightforward in this post from the beginning. And you want to argue, and cause grief, and like a politician turn around and say I am being "mean" to poor little you who is just trying to help. Tell you what, don't go away mad, just go away.I have lost all interest in trying to help you. You ask for advice, and when given, you throw it back telling me try again. To be honest Blue, I am surprised you get much help at all. (This impression has not come solely from this thread, but from many topics I've seen started by you). Don't ask for help and advice when you have your mind made up already.
Good Day to you sir. -
I have read a lot of stuff about Handclap over the years on the boards. I am not sure I ever read anything positive. I had an extra power slot available on my softcap Will/SS tanker and took it on a lark, figuring I could respec out sometime in the future if I hated it. I love it. Been using it on so many mobs. The real trick is just to know when not to use it. I have found it very useful during Rage Crash. I now have many things I can do during those "wasted seconds". My first choice is always taunt. I usually taunt at the beginning and end of the crash. My second choice, believe it or not, is Handclap. I can try to stun any KB resistant crowds. (Please do know which mobs, so as not to degrade team performance). Also, although rarely, Handclap can be used on non KB resistant mobs to great effect. I am getting pretty good at jumping in front of a bunch of Cims and rocketing them back in the direction I want them. (Only do this in the tunnel maps, it sucks for the team in the open) I also have my 2 vet attacks, which can be useful, and lastly inspiration management (deleting/combining/taking) Inspiration management is greatly overlooked, not figured into attack chains and DPS. I have soloed a lot of +2/x8 AE and let me tell you, inspiration management makes it go way faster/smoother. Having said all that, back on point:
Rage Crash + Knowledge + Handclap = more effectiveness.
Knowledge is required to know how Handclap affects various mobs and how you use it. It does no damage, so Rage Crash is the perfect time to use it. It can be great to hit a KB resistant crowd during crash, as you get a nice stun in. Also, it can (sometimes) be used to improve placement of crowds if used very wisely. Handclap for SS, learn it, use it, love it. -
Quote:The double stacked Rage crash has been debated in many threads. My takeaway in a nutshell is "It is worth it, go for it." I ran a SS/Will heavy recharge brute for a year, he rocked. Lots and lots of damage. I use the cone attack from energy mastery for more AoE goodness. I tend to jump in and out of crowds a lot, placing myself for maximum AoE goodness.More Recharge means more times Rage is activated, meaning more time spent crashed not able to do any damage. Foot Stomp is a great AoE but if you throw in a second AoE, damage potential increases even more.
oh, and for everyone who loves to dis on Handclap, let me say this: Rage Crash + Knowledge + Handclap = more effectiveness. Knowledge is required to know how Handclap effects various mobs and how you use it. It does no damage, so Rage Crash does not effect it. It can be very useful to KB resistant crowds during crash, as you get a nice stun in. Also, it can (sometimes) be used to improve placement of crowds if used wisely. Handclap for SS, learn it, use it, love it. -
Good suggestions. Unfortunately I am locked into Will/SS. (I actually like it).
So, I have to figure out how to maximize damage on this build. Or more generally, regardless of Set choices, how can I get damage upon any tank.
I will be adding 5 sets of purps, and LOTGs and Hasten to increase Rech. Am using tier 4 cardiac. -
I am looking to maximize the damage on a tank. I would like any suggestions, as I start to build, how to achieve this. Many good suggestions have been offered so far, massive recharge to maximize big attacks cycling for instance.
I am wondering about the logic of things like trying for global +% damage bonuses from sets, and any other suggestions for maximizing damage.
This is an alt build. The main build on this character is already def softcapped, and tanks wonderfully. I am really not playing to tank for even a single other player with this build. I have very specific circumstances when i will switch to this build....when I want to kill as much as fast as possible, and agro is controlled by other means. If you want to throw actual builds in, that is cool, he is built as a Willpower/Super Strength/Energy Mastery. i want to stay with that.
But the real focus of this question is in general how can you maximize damage with a Tank, giving up going for all things tanks normally go for. Money is no object. Although i believe that will be the last time i can say that for 9 months or so lol. -
Quote:Actually i have no interest in hiolding agro. I will only be running this build with 3 tanks on a large team, as secondary tank on a small team, or soloing easy content. It really is purely about killing stuff. Any powers/enhancers I put in are just focused like a laser on throwing out damage.Even though you want a Scranker, it isn't hard to reach pure Tanker levels of survivability. Willpower's toggles and Weave can put you at 32.5% F/C/E/N. Reaching 32.5% S/L is what I did with the build I posted. The rest of the bonuses went towards HP, mostly. You may be able to squeeze more recharge in that build at the expense of HP.
Don't skip Taunt just because you don't want aggro. You can still tank and taunt sets offer good bonuses. Adding an extra attack to the build won't mean more DPS if you are already running a high DPS chain. -
Quote:Thanks Psiphon. I was thinking along these lines myself. I have a SS/Dark Brute built this way, and he rocks. The best way to go is recharge, this will allow you to stack Rage and bring up Footstomp and Knockout blow as often as possible.
Adding a Force Feedback chance for +recharge in Footstomp will help with this.
Primarily your looking at Purple sets and LoTG + recharge and then checking which other sets offer +recharge.
My next question is with the enhancement slots I have left after this strategy whether it is worth it to go for sets with global +dam percentages. -
Thanks for the buildout Pine. My parameters are very narrow though. It has to be Will/SS/Energy Mastery. Also, not worried about taunt, def, nor health bonuses. I mean, if I pick them up on the way to the goal of doing more damage, so much the better. I will solve a few problems at the end of the build by adding Procs + Globals. Also, as the last step, any few enhancer slots that could not be used to somehow create more damage will be used to make the guy tougher, but thats about it.

Quote:ScrankerWhat do you think a Scranker is?
My idea is a Scrapper is a Tank with a higher Damage mod and can crit, with a few less HP.
1. Refers to a player character who is a Scrapper archetype, but plays more like a Tanker by taking most of the damage from enemies and holding most of the aggro, often by using PBAoE damage auras.
2. Refers to a player character who is a Tanker Archetype, but plays more like a Scrapper by focusing more on dealing damage with their Secondary Power Set rather than enduring damage with their Primary.
The term is a portmanteau of the words Scrapper and Tanker.
Scrank
1. Verb form. To act as a Scranker.
My version is going to be option 2. The character already has a full def cap buildout for being lead tank. This build will only be used when soloing arcs in Oro, or when 3+ tanks are on the team and the team needs/wants damage.
Having said that, this will be my main for the next year or so. I really want this build done right. I searched the last 50 pages in Tanks for SS/Will builds and found one scranker, and got the global damage bonus idea reading that. Since i did not get the spoon fed help I wanted. sigh. here goes.
PLEASE help with ideas for this build. My current thoughts are to go for 5 purple sets, and then add in other set bonuses with an eye toward global damage buffs and recharge, so as to bring up my big attacks and AoE attacks faster. The tank will not have taunt, and will prob have hasten, to further help with recharge (+lots LOTG 7.5%). Any thoughts at all are really appreciated. i am currently researching set bonuses to accomplish the above goals. Since this will only be run with multiple other tanks or when soloing easy oro content for badges, i have no need for any more def/res/health than I will pick up randomly thru set bonuses. Of course, i will be throwing on globals and Procs like mad, this is my main after all, even if its the Tanker Tuesday build. -
I just softcapped my Will. Seriously, i tank anything now, and very rarely does my health even slip down past 90%. On the Apex there is some diff with Snakes, but they take a long time to actually kill me, plenty of time for oranges and grens to repair me. The bib blue blast at the end can kill me as well. other than that...no.

Thx Chary, thats what i get for hanging out late with my wife, not having coffee, and trying to do research before work lol.

Not to be complicated, but Avatea's post on this forum has the target as "Return of the Reichsman". Beastyle's reply to her post says it is "Soul of the Woodsaman" with no explanation, and the Paragon Wiki has it as "Numina Task Force".
Are they all the target, am I misreading? -
I found your posts on the defense build (which is what i am using, with 2 very small mods)
I am now looking for a damage dealer build, no taunt, etc. Really just for running solo, or while 3rd tank on a team, just an all out Scranker (guess i'll need that revive power lol)
