  1. Glad to be able to inspire folks!

P.S., it looks like this thread will not die. (And no one is going to buy the name.)

In which case I will have fun with it as well. Just following Danica Patrick's new Honey Badger advice!

    Tights!

    For tights:

I'd like to see "patchwork" spandex similar to the rough leather. Something that looks like it's been sewed together out of old spandex.

I'd also like to see tight spandex that's legs turn to bell bottoms, for females.

Also, for the tights that you make that have a zipper down the front, I'd also like to see an "unzipped" version.

Oh, one more... I'd like to see actual TORN tights. Not the torn that have a secondary color in the torn area. But a transparent tear so you can see the skin underneath, maybe with scars in the torn areas.

Also, if you want some ideas for tights and patters, check out http://www.highspots.com/wrestling-gear.asp?id=47. Tights are standard wear for pro-wrestlers and some actuall look pretty cool.

    ...

Finally, the one type of standard tights that I've been waiting for for years is the Andre the Giant style tights.

Andre. Wow. Okay, thats enough tights discussion for me.

No, seriously Golden Girl was right about masks. They really really really need to fix masks.

I use Stealth outfits a lot for modern texture feel. they need many more variations like that.

And the Andre tight. Just cause.
  4. A fire armor brutes with SOs can farm AE fire missions. Monitor def and fire res and pop insp as needed. GL.
  5. Yeah, I am running at -1. Still doesn't help with the hunts in Terra Volta. The only mission I have had a prob with so far is a Devouring Earth mission where I triggered a spawn and an ambush at the same time. there were a good number of mobs, and the fight took 3 to 4 minutes. They drop those little buffer/debuffer things. they are hard to see/target. I had some end management problems in that fight. Still, not significant green bar issues. Have only been defeated in street hunts, and so far only a couple times. Yesterday a group of around 11 Lost built some momentum on me and put me down in Terra Volta.

I am using a stealth proc in sprint. This allows me to grab glowies, find kidnapped peeps, and generally run through large areas of uselessness without fighting. I have the Vet power reveal, and have most of the city memorized, the patterns, etc.

Are you using MIDs? I use that, but only for my very high end builds. I suppose it is an interesting way to plan a new character when you are new to the city as well. You need to read the section in Wiki about Enhancement Diversification if you are already doing that. ED is a pretty hard cap to enhancing. http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Enhancement_Diversification

I am not very good with MIDs, and sometimes I cannot move slots when I follow the "rules" lol. The moved ones never show back up, argh. If you are just messing around with power picks in MIDs I would just start again anyways. It will help you get the feel for leveling.

Even better source is this community boards. In every Archtype section, at the top are guides. Many show leveling strategies, including enhancer suggestions. about 99% of them are very very solid advice.
  7. Indeed welcome. http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Main_Page is the start for most questions.

Leveling. yeah. It is very different in CoH/CoV. My standard 1-50 is about a week, and I work full time. I can level one to 50 pretty fast to 50 maybe 4 days, if I can add a couple full weekend days, then 2 nights grinding. My current project is to do all content Blueside on one character as I level. He is currently 29 (I turn off experience a lot) and will be for another week or so. He was rolled up about a week before New Years. I am hoping to 50 him sometime in early March at this rate. Late February would make me happy too. Early February would make me ecstatic. You want to find something in between those two extremes.

I suggest running the introductory mission, then the story arc in atlas Park, that opens missions in Kings Row with the same contact. If you do not have the patience for full story arcs see if you like running with teams. Big teams are a very good source of experience, and after 20 or so the only reliable and stress free way to level at a good clip. Soloing story arcs is a very slow way to get experience. The rewards there are different. You learn the city, and get "Merits". More at Wiki for that. If you find you like story arcs you can open them this way: anytime you run a series of "radio missions" or "paper missions" villain side you get a "bank mission". Heroes run the Safeguard, villians get the Mayhem. After completing the contact that gave it to you will give you another contact, who has a story arc.

There are sewer missions, aka Death From Below trials. They are very fast ways to level to 10, and fast to 20 if you do not mind grinding some. You learn almost nothing about the game, teamwork, or anything. They are sanctioned powerleveling, they dumb down everything they can, and give incredible rewards. I would suggest using them a bit, but really focus on getting out and playing your character, seeing if you like the powers, the effects, the concept. Sewers are dumbed down so much you cannot even use most powers in them.

The biggest experience killer in the game? Altitis. This is the termed coined for making up new characters constantly. Most people who play are afflicted to at least some degree. It is cool, and we all definitely understand. But that is the biggest threat to not 50ing right there. If you find a character concept you like, and a couple power sets you like, and an archtype that suits your playstyle (and you stay mostly on that one character) within a few weeks you should 50, if you play about 10-20 hours a week. Moreover, you will learn to play the character well, and have a lot of fun.

    Good luck in the cities.
  8. Finished Eliza THorpe arc. Learned some stuff, like the fact that Devouring Earth are a real tough fight. She had 11 missions beside her arc. We got to know each other.

Then I rolled on to Miriam Bloechl. After her story arc there were another dozen or so missions. Lot of CoT and Banished Pantheon. Neither are a tough group for my build. However, she had a lot of collect this, rescue 400 peeps. One map I could not find 3 (I try to stealth where I can.) I knew the map pretty well, After searching fifteen minutes I start the massacre, 15 minutes later, still not found anyone, starting to think it was bugged. They were all 3 in a small area (rarely used, rarely spawned to) I think whoever wrote that was evil. Anyways, got a surprise badge at the enfd of Miriams stuff, yeah.

Couple tricks I am adding to my bag is always keeping a temp End power crafted. When I fight non stop my end curve is ugly. So that is good for when I cannot stealth and I run short on blue yummies. Also saved the day when I was running 50 hero tips with a blaster and we drew Carnies. Oof, start with a bad end problem in long fights and add Carnies. But with the temp running I was okay.

Also, doing a weekly Cathedral of Pain for the buff. When you spend this much time in a week on one character it is more than worth it.

Still got quite a bit of 25-29 to go. I am hoping to have it done or mostly done by the next weekend. I want to start slotting a few more enhancers. THe bonuses are really saving my bacon. 35 (and the next +End Proc) looks very very far away.

Oh, and now I get why the banished pantheon looks like a lot of ex soldiers. One question, what genius buried them all with guns?

Going to an event in Northwest in a couple months. Maybe I'll try to throw an outfit together. Went to Comicon in SD about 5 years ago, it's pretty crazy. My costume would be closer to what City of... autogenerates when you pick "hero" as the pack. Gotta love a helmet and pointy shoulder pads! Of course, the devil is in the details, making it your own. er, that and looking good in spandex.

I tread pretty lightly in my critique. In one of my first self portrait presentations (a drawing, of course) My instructor pointed out everyone makes the eyes too light when they are starting out. Eyes are one of the darkest parts on the face. In fact, making them even a tad darker is a very good dramatic effect, darkest dAark being the eyes, with whitest white, the whites of the eyes right beside that. Becomes the focal point of the work pretty fast. grats on the costume and modeling presentation, very interesting. I have painted less interesting subject matter lol. The semester of bottles comes right to mind, sigh.

How is asking about moral obligations not a question about right and wrong?

I stayed redside for almost 3 years exclusively because playing video games is a very selfish activity for me. Just saying.
  13. Okay, took a couple days break from the city. Now I'm back at it. I don't think I will finish up 25-29 content this weekend, but hope to make a good dent in it. Did Jim Bell in Talos. Kinda boring. Then did the 25-29 portion of Croatoa. Very nice stuff. The writing is not quite as tight as First Ward and the new stuff, but overall high marks. What impressed me the most is the depth of the content. Sure, this is an older game. But that also means it has tons of stuff, like all of Croatoa zone and it's storylines just waiting there. I had never done this content before since my first few years in the game were almost all redside.

The plan from here is to comlpete stuff zone by zone. I did the Ouro Arcs, cool stuff. Not my first time though them but still fun. Also, good way to get the badge for the contaminated. My plan is Talos, then IP, then Striga and anything else that pops up from contacts opened during 25-29 stuff.

It's not here yet but keep an eye out for something in the works. There will be plenty of prizes for both NA/EU players, In-game celebration, and lots of fun to be had. HUGE prizes for the Grand Winners. It will be aimed for the late Spring/Early Summer so this is just a preview of things to come.

While you wait here's an example of what can be expected so everyone can get started on concepts:

1: It will be character based
Meaning: Come up with a character you like the best, your absolute amazing design or horrific creation. Anime, or Comic Book - but it has to be COH enticed - ALL factions allowed.

2: A side by side comparison will be needed.
Meaning: Post a picture of your (In game creation) aside your Cosplay. Or a drawn picture of your COH concept that your Cosplay reflects.

There's plenty more to come at a later date, much later, but I wanted to get a word out now so all of you who are interested can get your brain mojo spinning.

THIS IS JUST FOR REFERENCE and is NOT by any way a submission of my own as I'm doing something different but will not be a competitor:

What really hurts the most are the Energy Melee animations are the classic melee combat moves from the comics. I would even take this set, with it's little AoE, except the set damages the user. To me, that is unforgivable. I avoid all Tier 9s with crashes for instance. I understand why they do it for game balance, but i have a hard time writing a concept for it. If I make a robot character who actually overloads and has a partial meltdown periodically, i guess Invul tier 9 would be useful. Otherwise, seriously? And the choice of not using a tier 9 makes me climb the wall. I finally forgave Invul (after about a year and a half) about the time I stopped using SOs and slotting set bonuses. Not sure what to do about EM. Pair it with Willpower so I do not notice the self inflicted wound i guess. I would never pair it with Invul.

StJ moves are classic MMA/Streetfighting martial arts moves. They were designed that way, they look great doing that, but just because they nailed it so perfect means that in my mind they are restricted to a MA type character concept. Ooh, I just got a alt concept, tried it with old MA, never liked it. I bet it would be perfect with StJ.

So someone out there liked the name and spent a lot of time developing a character around it. Maybe if that player ever wants to migrate to Freedom he/she'll be willing to buy the name?
If they got that much love going for it I would give it to them. I have about 4-5 names I use a lot, and would love them on every server. I would love to have these on each server. Yet it seems that ain't gonna happen.

Personally, I don't think it was a great* name in the first place, but I also don't think it's fair to object to selling names in general as some in this thread have done. I've got a couple names I really like, but can't quite make the concept work, or don't like how the character plays, or whatever, so I'm basically sitting on those names forever. If somebody wants the name Bloody Murder on Freedom, for example, too bad, I got here first and sooner or later I'll figure out how to make that name work. But if someone offered me some compensation I'd consider it - they'd get a name they clearly want that otherwise might have been taken forever, I'd get some inf, everyone's happy. In fact, selling a desirable name makes sure that it ends up in the hands of someone who really wants it, rather than someone (like me) who tags the name and sits on it forever without really using it.

*Arbiter and Death are good names by themselves - cliche, yeah, but they're used so often precisely because they're good. However, combining them just seems like "trying too hard to be cool".
At the risk of keeping this thread going. sigh. Yes, the name is still mine. Seriously, did anyone think that I got 2 Billion for a name?

Not sure why the other thread got deleted. It was a thoughtful discussion about names, marketing, etc. Quite philosophical.

This degenerated into flame war tantrum mess while the posts were still in the single digits, yet is still here.

I guess we know what types of threads are preferred.

PS Stone. Thank you, a generous offer. I'll keep the name though. In replying in the other thread I realized having a 50 VEAT in my stable is maybe useful somewhere down the line (I leveled a crab in the first week of VEATs, never played him again.) Unless someone really wants it (really doesnt seem likely...)

Okay, let me explain. lol. no seriously. It irks me (not your comment, the "problem")

Here is "the problem" This is a super powered role playing game. If you want to run a tough melee character who uses their super powers in melee, here take this stick and beat those guys. er, how about this sword. no? a giant sword?

EM is sub par. Read the entire thread here to see why I state that. Some do not agree, but to me it is the saddest little set in melee combat. I have some min maxer in me, but I will overlook that for a great "anything" This set has nothing that fits in the quotes. KM does only have one attack with KB, true. But its an AoE. So, skip the AoE? right, yeah, no. So, KM is blech. StJ is cool. I have bought it, I have run it. But not every concept I create earned their powers thru 4000 MMA tournaments, kapeesh? Fiery uses a weapon, and it is also limited to certain concepts. Dark is great, if you are running any type of undead. Electric, great for bots. EM, KM, and SS are the only sets that can be 'nuetral" enough to fit any concept. But EM and KM both suffer from really dumb problems. So that leaves SS. sigh, again. 4 1/2 years of SS is starting to get old even for me.

So, to clarify. The "problem" is that in a Super Powered Role Playing Game you cannot create Superdude Melee Guy and not have his concept be either one of X predetermined things. (Got power from Fire, Electric, 4000 MMA fights) or "uses stick, sword, giant sword" See how limiting that is? That is what kills me here. Why are my concepts tethered to a small handful of things. My imagination is limitless. Do not take my limitless imagination and say, "pick one of these 5 things" Are you undead? Electric? Firey? A Martial Artist? Mr Cleaver? PICK ONE! Nooooooo. The power sets need to be the vehicle. If I do create an Undead thank you very much for Dark. I like undead characters. But, if my concept is Joe Buck Space Ranger that aint working. Or any of the thousand other concepts I have that are not one of those limiting things. So, what sets are neutral enough to fit any concept? Yep, and thats the "problem".
  19. Here is another thing that helps. do 4 Death From Below Sewer runs. The 3 badges are cool, but the 4 temp powers that last until 22 are great.
  20. Blue_Centurion

    New Dark Astoria

I need another opinion on this, and maybe some intel. To me, some of the creatures in the new Dark Astoria look a lot like creatures from an artist named Wayne Barlowe. Did he collaborate? Am I getting this mixed with another artists work?
  21. I'm bowing out of the thread. Thank you all for a great discussion. I learned what I needed. 1) Never run Energy Melee in it's current form, I will be unhappy with it. 2) They will probably make some changes to EM in i22 3) the changes are not going to be enough to get me to ever run this set. I'm a little unhappy about it. In a game devoted to Super powered individuals there are very few good sets for melee that do not revolve around getting a knife, sword, stick, or whatever else is lying around the room to beat some fool down with. Super Strength is a great set, but unlikely to ever get ported to Scrappers. I would love to try a Scrapper, without a weapon. But KM has knockback, and I use either Will or Invul on 99% of my favorite builds. EM is... yeah. And MA is great if that is the theme, and youre happy with 400 styling ST attacks. Again, thank you all for helping me understand the set better.
  22. I bought a couple sets of tuned LOTG a few weeks ago. Was going to buy another set for my solo blueside project. Cannot find them. Am I looking in the wrong spot? Did they move? Do they only offer them for a limited time?
  23. Yeah, they would be freaking brutal. Still, I would try it even knowing they were coming in hard at my weakest spot. Again, just using inspirations, the base Buff adder, and various other veteran player tricks. Not saying it would go well, but I think I would have a shot.

It would not be enjoyable, and I would never regularly play that content, but I would try it as a one-off contest.

Hmm, interesting. I know the level 28 version could not, he just got Invincibility at 28 and it has one enhancer in it. My softcapped 50 who is incarnated? Maybe, honestly I havent tried that. If I had to guess (and looks like I do) I would say yes, he could run through a hundred or so of them tightly packed, either group. But He is incarnated, and I would be expecting to be using inspirations to keep defense up and resists pegged, also for emergency blue and green. But again, I have not playtested that. He struggled a bit during the first few Lambdas when he was 50+0 and 50+1. Part of that was because he got separated from groups and was soloing a lot of that, and was killed a few times. Does anybody follow the route anymore? sheesh. Now he just ignores everything that is smacking at him, and I am happy with it like that.

In the carnie or arachnos scenario he would be 50+1, so they would be at +3 to him. He has a lot of ACC bonuses, and Rage, so he could hit them. They would be missing him steadily 95% time. His Fury would be pegged, so he would be killing lots. I think the carnie drain is targeted???, so that would be missing him 95% time. Also Mu would be missing him. So End should be okay. He has 3 +End Procs going, so that helps. They can kill your end recovery but those bad boys still fire. It would really be a matter of if I could kill fast enough to keep inspirations flowing. Also, i would pop some into my e-mail if I knew I was about to tackle something this hairy. Does all that strategy count? Or we talking go in nekkid and take down +4/x8? Also, that base one hour buff machine. And there has to be a temp power, if nothing else temp phase shift to give myself some insp management time if needed, and if they have cascaded failure into my def.

Basically Invulnerability is not, well Invulnerable. What it is is the best shield to hide behind in the game. But you have to know how to angle it best for the particular fight you are looking at.
