I know I need a pic. But my game computer is not my posting computer. So, If you are familiar with the costume creator here goes:
I am using the Vampire Face, neck cover black, Bubble helmet, and the exposed brain with wires/tubes. Clockwork torso, arms, legs, Mecha Feet, robotic skeletal gloves, and cyborg general shoulders. All parts are black, skin tone on face grey. Oh, and the circular floating gothic looking back part from one of the tier 9 costumes, forget the name. The characters name is "Vampdroid".
The backstory is this vampire made a contract with a powerful entity to live forever, then got severely messed up. Top of head cut off, head chopped off, etc. For a while The head was in the alchemical/enochian/technological lab, just stabilized. Then it was fitted with the tech tubes and magic power to be animate. After complaining (a good long while) the head finally got a robotic body to cruise around with.
Brute, Dark Melee/Elec Armor.
Posting here because I never (rarely) do costume contests.
Also, I sort of wanted to start a discussion about varios tricks that are your favorites in the generator. I tend to gravitate to robots and undead (and this mish/mash lol).
What chops do you use in costume generator to refresh those same old tricks you been rocking for years? -
Is one of your characters "Death from Balogna?" Saw this last night when I was in the DFB. My wife liked that character's name.
-
In researching this. (since no one ventured a reply yet lol) I discovered a thread on the last page that discussed MM secondary. It was mentioned that MM is one of the best WITH high recharge, and not so much without.
Does this mean I should start unpacking my purples (surprisingly few builds besides Doms use them, they are in the base somewheres), grab Hasten, and build like I would for a Dom?
We ovelapped Posts Mad Grimm, but thanks, looks like that is what I shall do! -
I am making my first Blapper, a Fire/Mental powerhouse (I hope). I have no idea what my build goals should be here. I normally build for ranged softcap on Blasters, and play accordingly. What should I be trying to do here?
-
Are these the same Weapon Skins added separately when TW 1st came out (and I got) or are these more skins?
-
I love the new Posi 1 and 2. They flow nice. I think my average is less than 40 minutes per section. Well written, fast, challenging. It is a good test for a new character right out of the DFB salmon runs.
However, if you have people that do not listen and have no idea what they are doing it is just a horrid thing. So many places for people to do (stupid! stupid! stupid!) incorrect things that can cause team wipes.
I quit a Posi 1 this weekend, one of the only TFs I have dropped in months. I am tanking and the 1st mission is set to +2. Everybody but me is in and I hear in Teamchat "I hope you can tank this..." I get in and charge, of course. I am on an Elec/Dark and already I/O'd, so it was no sweat. The team kept tight, cause if they didnt they died. The guy dials it down (by my request) for the rest of the TF. The next missions no one is following the tank, or even responding to me in chat. I am not saying much "Somebody want to get the glowie?" 3 minutes later I get the glowie myself. Then somebody is like "Don't do that yet" We get into assault on Oranbega in Atlas and no one follows the tank. I wait for everybody to get on map, and head out to tank the first group. everybody on the team headed out a different door. Everyone split from the tank, the entire team. I had to quit. I saw the last mission, the ambush at the door, the fight shadowselves, this team. Yeah, not me brother. This is why I Brute a lot. -
Well, the beast is 50'd and ready for the Incarnate Trials. The last slotting needs to be done. He is at 85% I/Os and 15% SOs right now. I think I need to buy or create about 6 enhancers and the rest are in the base somewhere.
I followed most of the suggestions for alterations in the thread. I went with Hasten, but no Burnout. I "Helped" in a fire farm for the last 2 1/2 levels, just me and a Brute. The Tank was doing okay in there. I moved a slot or two over to Stamina (up from the 1 I had). With 3 End Recovery powers it is pretty easy to pump the end bar, especially with Hasten, but it is just silly to always be doing it. I am building in more safety to it so I can concentrate on tactics and strategy instead of staring at my Blue Bar.
The big change was the suggestion to take Smite, and I am glad to have it. It gives me a KC Mule and a good attack chain for when my job is to get in and crunch the AV. Softcapped S/L and approx 38 on En/Def. Resist capped to S/L/En and 60% or more on everything but toxic. I will probably rebuild him a little in i24 (or a lot, I love to tinker).
Thank you all for the help. I will be testing him in the trials in the coming weeks, probably a few a night.
I am off to a Blaster project. Mahalo. -
Wow, great discussion thanks. I am going to try CJ + SS on this guy. I am thinking I will probably rebuild about 15% of stuff when I24 hits anyways, so I can change then if I don't like it.
-
yeah, i got the same setup Rangle, bu I know those temps get canned in the Incarnate Trials, as well as Master Attempts
-
I'm gonna take this as a real question, I guess.
Superspeed is, ahem, vertically challenged. No offense, Elec Armor is vertically challenged as well, so why not pair them right. I just hate being a super that runs up to a curb and is like "eh, how do i get over it, look, its a curb, oh no" -
I normally take Fly, I love Fly, I am addicted to Fly.
But, sometimes we have to get a little outside that. (Danged Devs, limiting us to so very few power choices, sigh)
So, is Superspeed workable on a Tank. Especially for Incarnate Trials and late game Task Forces?
I am currently working on this Elec/Dark build, if I drop Fly in favor of Superspeed I can pop on Burnout and once every 10-15 min have an extra Hasten, Energize, Power Sink, Dark Consumption, and Conserve Power all pop up. Abusive, and fun. I do not use the Elec Tier 9, so this would be my ghetto tier 9. -
Quote:Thanks for the salute. Er do i stand here, salute back, do that crazy fist bump thing? :-)What incarnte (if any) are you going for? I ask because right now you have almost Zero net gain on your end bar. Thats going to drain your bar lightning fast (no pun intended).
Also you skipped Smite.... If I recall correctly Smite is one of the best DPE attacks in the game. I realize your focus was on tanking but, to lose one of your best DPE attacks, I dont feel tthats worth it.
Recharge in midnight grasp? Your ACC in it is very low, I think you would be a lot better off throwin a Acc/Rech into the power vs a straight up Rech. If you have trouble hitting things, it doesn't matter how fast the Rech on the power is.
I would also swap out the mods on soul drain to obliteration (find the 6th slot from somthing). This will give you another 1.88% to your S/L. 42.9 might seem "close", but when you break down attacks, that last 2.1% can mean a lot.
6 Slot on tactics has me scratching my head. If you used Retified Retical you could net another 1.88% S/L real easy here, (considering you would lose a 1.25% gives net gain of .63%... added to the above swap will give you your 45% soft cap S/L which Elec Desperatly needs to attain).
If your not totaly set on useing assault, I would drop it for Vengence, and put another Luck of Gambler Global in thier.
Dark Consumption feels over slotted (espeialy for damage) and Energize feelts under slotted. Since you mention wanting to tank, have your big heal with decent numbers is a good idea.
Just some quick thoughtsI salute you for trying to push your Res as far as you can.
Really nice response. Thank you. Looks like I will be incorporating most of these ideas. ( I kind of threw the build together real fast with my standard "heavy Brute" slotting. Although I ran something similar for an Elec/Elec Scrapper all the way through the trials (tier 4s, etc). Guess what? He had real problems with his end bar, one of the reasons I deconstructed him, and why I went Dark, and why this guy has 3 End management powers. Which, as you quickly noted, still may be awkward.
Smite, hmmm. Good point. I cannot afford the Sands (although I'm pretty good with it) but Smite. Yeah. Smite with KC. Hmmm. Revisitable.
Right about MG too. I normally run builds with a more +Acc in the bonuses. I should tweak that in the remix.
I'm changing up my GSFC idea as you suggested. I can drop assault, get Smite, throw Kinetic Combat in it, and that gets me to the finish line on S/L softcap. With the pressure off I can bring Combat jumping down to 1 enhancer (+rech) and save 2 more slots.
I'll relook at Dark Consumption and Energize.
Great critique. That helped a lot. Thank you. -
Quote:Thanks LSK, I never thought about that. My standard slotting for LOTG is on a Willpower. I will look at this (and probably do it)A few things first off leadership pool is a big end hog, maneuvers if your going to have it switch out the def with def/end/rech to help with some of the end usage, tactics is another end hog and having the gussian's in it is more for typed def then it is for targeted def. I have not really looked the rest over yet. Ill coment more when i get home from work bout it and show you my build.
The Gaussian is (obviously) being muled in there. (Plus I like the proc). But based on the reply I'm responding to next is probably going away. -
Quote:I have Bruted (a lot lol) and Brother I hear you. I ran a Dark Melee/Invulnerable Brute. I think like 2-3 years ago I was in the Brutes forum arguing for a fully purpled build, recharge. THe point was good, my build was, sigh, not. I may try to squueze in recharge, but I am not married to the concept. I must ad,mit, it would fit my tactics well, for all the reasons you point out above. But I will not be trying to perma it. A bridge to far. I need to concentrate on my armors as my first line of defense. Elec is a very solid set, but the Elec Heal is not that great even if I can spam it non-stop. (Okay, that WOULD be great) Basically I am saying in the cold heart of a bad bad battle when you start wishing mebbe I should be Stone no amount of recharge is THAT good. Concentrating on my softcap and resists just take priority. But I do love that line of thought, would be fun. Similar for more attacks. I spam Taunt, that is my primary attack. Sure, I love to kill mobs, but that is not what I am trying to do with this build. I see my job on the team as controlling agro first. This is not a soloing character. It is build to manage battles for teams and leagues.Electric Armor practically cries out for you to take Hasten. I know, some people have something against Hasten but geesh, you've got Lightning Reflexes giving you a 24/7 +20% to Recharge. . .why wouldn't you abuse Hasten for another 70% and shoot for making it perma?
The benefit of this is that everything cycles faster and so Siphon Life, Soul Drain, Dark Consumption and Power Sink are all available more often. When you can toss Siphon Life out every 2.4 seconds. . .well, you become really hard to kill. Energize (which I have 5 slotted to maximize its heal) increasingly becomes your response to alpha strikes because you never need it* to lower endurance costs as Power Sink is up all the time (without adding any slots to it). I ended up using Power Sink as my primary endurance recovery tool (with the benefit it screws opponent's endurance) and Dark Consumption as the tool I turn to when there are very few opponents around.
The other thing that strikes me as a potential worry is only having Lightning Field to hold onto group aggro. Shadow Maul may be a weak area attack compared to others but it takes very little to have it reliably hit multiple targets. -
Here is what I came up with. I am near softcap for S/L and somewhere getting near it for En/Neg. But it looks like that is really going to be a small purple away with some extra to account for zero DDR. I am liking the resist numbers.
I plan to run all the toggles all the time. My trick for maintaining my health has got to be pretty straightforward, and I have a good number for keeping me End up as well. In truth, I have no idea how this will run. I was very impressed with Elec Armor on my Incarnate Scrapper, and Dark melee is an old friend.
This is really built for ultra tankiness, including layered protections on my Blue Bar (sneaky Devs always trying to get me). I realize the damage does not approach what a Shield/fire Tank could do, but I am looking for a comfortable 'physical team leader' that controls the combat, not finishes it.
Please give me any feedback you have, and thanks in advance:

Dark. Here is what I put together. Going to throw it up in a separate thread for a clear critique. Again, i am building for tankiness, worst case scenario survivval. I plan to spam taunt, give my Blasters a little +to hit bonus (hi i24) and just control the flow of combat. If i need anything that can 'mostly tank but do damage' I have a large stable of sturdy Brutes.

thanks for the responses, I'm going Electric. Tesla move over.

I have decided to create an Electric armor Tank as my most beastly experiment yet. (Thanks for the replies in that thread). What secondary would go the furthest in adding to Electric Armor toughness? Dark brings a nice heal, although the Buff seems a little wasted. But I could run all 3 leadership toggles, manuevers, and possibly maybe focused accuracy. Dark consumption, Energize, and conserve power would preserve my blue bar nicely.I have just about talked myself into this obviously, but does anybody else have a good/great pairing?

I want to create an extremely 'tanky' tank. I been around enough to know this can vary widely based on what enemies are coming at the team. But I want something that performs well very well most of the time and at least adequately all the time.
First) Stone is right out. Sorry to the dedicated rock lovers, I just cannot do it. I could even go with it for concept with a slow moving Bot but that granite skin they force you into is not why I signed up for the costume creator.
I believe Invulnerability may be the way to go. I am willing to throw a LOT of enhancers at this beast, most I believe I already have in my warehouse (base) and would be willing to scrounge the rest. But I am unfamiliar enough with Tanks to think perhaps I am missing something. I drove a Willpower Tank through trials for a few months about a year ago, and was not unhappy. Also, the new Bio Armor could be the way to go, and I know nothing about that yet. My only experience with Electric Armor was an incredibly sturdy Scrapper I trialed with for awhile. Dark has wonderful resist numbers and the best heal in the game. In the end I am lost in the choices.
So, I ask for the wisdom of the Tank boards. For a high end I/O build with an incarnated Tank what armor tends to be the most survivable? -
Quote:Speaking of revenue stream they could sell the Proc AND keep the OF just for summer goodies AND tickle the community pink by offering a second Paragon Market Unique Enhancer that does not conflict with the OF one. Oooh. I just got a happy face!If I had to make a baseless prediction, I'd guess that something like the proc, if not the actual OF proc, will be available at some point, in some way, outide of the summer Blockbuster. Unlike the Winter's Gift, which I personally view as a nice "luxury" pick, the OF proc is extremely in demand, as the previously mentioned market prices indicate. If I worked in the business department for Paragon, I'd see this is as a decent revenue stream to sell it in the Paragon market.

I agree with some who are saying that was a well written OP. I mentioned that in my response. I still disagree with the premise, but give JohnnyButane props for writing his point well. And persistence. I don't actually think there is a grease spot there anymore. But a family of insects who once thrived on the carcass live. Yeah, must be something in their DNA that can be targeted.

The 1 hour experience booster is all that comes to mind.

Quote:I buy yearly subscriptions, so I only need to make that decision once per year. Every year I agonize over it. Last year I hit the button after realizing that I didn't have anything else to play. That isn't always going to be true; in fact, some very tempting games are coming along in just a few months.
Right now I'm coasting on a decision I made last year. CoH needs to do something amazing to keep me, given the current state of affairs. I see no indication that they'll do that -- they *like* the way things are, even if it means losing players that have been here since launch, even if it means bleeding people away. All I can say is that no love affair lasts forever, and good luck to all.
It sounds like you almost did not resub last year, because you want to be somewhere different.
I pay my sub each month, and usually spend 30-45 more each month as well. You know why? Because for the cost of a starbucks coffee each day I have a crapton of fun. (try to go to starbucks every day of the month with a $60.00 budget.... you definitely will not feel VIP then lolololol) -
I respectfully disagree. PS, as someone who has been known to get on a soapbox I must say that was well said and not too hyperbolic. (I myself favor the hyperbolic)
Let me point out the Superhero "Cyclops", who to me is the archetypical Blaster. Have you ever played the old PS2 X-Men games? To my wife I would always say Cyclops was the best half a hero in the game. I still stand by that. My favorite character was the russian, Colossus. In one of those games he was not unlocked until WAY late in the game, after a special mission. He is that much more powerful than the regular characters.
When I say "Tank-Mage" I am not referring to someone with some Blaster powers and some ability to self sustain. I am talking about taking Colossus and giving him Cyclops ranged attacks. It is my belief that most other powergamers and min-maxers on this board are also referring to this type of unholy combination when they say "Tank-Mage."
PS, can i get one now? I promise not to let anyone else in the cities have one if you just let me have one....
