*sigh* Will have to give that a try, thanks. Would have been nice if they'd left well-enough alone, since all my prior working avatars were hosted in the same place and linked in the same manner.

For that matter, assuming you're correct, it would have been nice for "support" to have said so sometime in the past year.

I've tried using the actual url to the hosted image:

I've also tried using two different shortened urls, one by the internal tool on the hosting:

And one by an external service (bit.ly):

None of them work. The tool for changing the url doesn't even retain the change - when I click "submit", it clears the field and stares at me expectantly, rather like a dumb dog.

Sorry about not posting more info on this earlier. Forums apparently not showing me new responses to this thread, either - I just came back and looked randomly.

Other things I've tried - the obvious cookies, cached files, blah, blah, blah. Also have attempted via three different browsers on three different computers. One is my wife's, in the same room. She can update her avatar fine, but not mine.

Wasn't clear on this before, but this only seems to affect some people - it's not universal, or even terribly wide-spread. But it HAS been going on for a LONG time. If I had to guess (which is pretty much what I'm limited to, at this stage), this "feels" like some kind of forum db corruption. Hard to say since, if it's some kind of oddball issue at my end, I've never gotten any input from support to that effect.

Seems to have worked fine for me, though I've only updated test and beta, haven't actually tried to access either. Certainly a lot less buggy (so far) than it was back when I played Aion. Ugh. That's all I'll say about that.

Still have some concerns that I didn't see addressed in the OP, though I may have missed them:

How will any potential new or returning players, or current players that don't routinely access the forums, be affected? Will the old updater redirect them, or autoinstall, the new launcher?

I and at least several other folks have been unable to change forum avatars for many months... roughly 9 (or more), I think. It lets you REMOVE one, but not change an existing one. Granted, it's a minor annoyance... that's rapidly approaching a year old.

Anyone going to bother fixing it? This year?

My last real hope died (slowly) when they took the Silver Mantis SF (I am mostly redside) away from being an exclusive Mission Computer SF... and then never replaced it with anything on either side... AFTER telling us that we should hang onto the Mission Computer.

At that point, I finally started seeing all the lies for what they were.

Not really sure why everyone is hawking the Animal Pack anyway. It pretty much sells itself.

I'll still keep tinkering with the bases I manage... but I'm done waiting, hoping and wishing. I've even reached the point that I honestly stopped caring that the sudden "lack of apparent interest" on our part, as base builders, can be construed by the devs as a license to stop paying even the already non-existent attention they do to the issue. I care so little now that I don't even care if any of THEM care.

The only base "decoration" I'm interested in seeing at this point is some sign of developer interest in supporting bases. Until that happens, all other concerns regarding bases are distantly secondary for me.

My one and only wish for bases:

Developer interest/response.

Anything placed before this is irrelevant.
