  1. Find a niche in the game canon that supports your idea. Create a suggestion of an EAT that fits with that canon and create an epic storyline to tie them into that.

For example: The Ouroboros Menders are perfect canon for a possible EAT. They would obviously have to be Tech origin and it would take some real writing chops to work out an epic story line and even more work to make it really feel epic. But the potential is there.

In the same way, one could take the idea of the Midnighters and suggest that they possibly have their own EAT. Maybe, in addition to the normal magic powers the majority of their followers have (Sigil and Kadabra Kill for example are obvious Defender/Blaster types), their most elite members are called the Midnight Mystics. Say that these mystics wield a range of magical powers known only by a privileged few. An added benefit to going with the Midnighters is their EAT could be available to both sides, Heroes or Villains. Expand upon that. Work out a basic story outline. Work out a branching tree of Primary and Secondary pools (similar to SoAs) with the powers you would like to see. Include others and ask for suggestions for powers. Don't be afraid to use powers from other powersets, but don't just port over a copy of those powers and add a wand. It's not different enough to warrant consideration when you do that. Make them unique somehow.

I personally like the idea of an EAT with a mix of different power types. I just don't necessarily like it being tied to a specific Origin. If it was part of an EAT with an epic storyline that explained why it was limited to them it would be more acceptable.

So, you're telling us that you put your father's skulls in that ball for bowling?

No, the guy at the pro shop did it.

  3. And just so you know, though the devs do peek into this forum from time to time, it is the players and their approval or disapproval of your suggestion that will either keep your thread alive for them to see or shoot it down in flames.

You have to convince the players that there really is a problem before the devs will even look at it. So, these posters whom you are disparaging actually have more authority than you might think.

Yes, new players may not know about the badge and TF channels, but really all they have to do is ask and someone will tell them in game. Last night someone asked how to get to the Tailor in Steel Canyon. Before I could answer five other players gave him directions and one guy offered him a TP, and that was on the Guardian server.

  4. Never heard the term "fight fire with fire"?

There are already ways for some Fire users to gain some resistance to their type of damage. Temperature Protection is available to Fire/ Tankers, /Fire Scrappers, /Fire Brutes and Ice/ Tankers. Also, Blasters and Controllers both have access to Fire Shields in their Fire Mastery Ancilliary Pools.

Also, when you think about this not every fire user is necessarily going to be resistant to fire. What if my character is just a normal guy who throws flaming baseballs with protective gloves? Sure, my hands are protected but my body isn't. What if my character is a robot that is equipped with flame weapons? That doesn't automatically mean it's going to be built so that it's systems can't fry if they take hits from fire directly.

These are the kind of things that in the old Champions PnP could be written as Advantages and Disadvantages. In this game you have to leave it kind of open for concept and just the pick the appropriate AT and powers for your concept.

In your case you want to work yourself up to level 41 and pick up Fire Mastery. Then you will be up to spec with your concept.

  5. Note: This is a chat channel just like broadcast. It can be heard all over the zone if you have the AE channel active in your chat tab. But you can simply remove it so you don't see it.

It won't stop people from using broadcast for AE teams altogether, but it will help.

Also, "hacker" is not the same thing as a virus author. There are myriad reasons for authoring virus payloads. Only a few of them have anything to do with the hacker subculture.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's why I put the word "malicious" before it. I know hacker doesn't only refer to illegal actions.

And note: Your virus that affects Mac only affects the newer "more compatible with Windows" versions of the Mac OS. Gee, I wonder why?

And saying "NO ONE" uses them and "Obscurity instead of security" are still blanket overstatements. Lots of people use Macs. Just because we're not the majority doesn't mean we don't friggin exist.

As I said, I use both PCs and Macs and I know the good points and bad points of both. Stop preaching at me. Thank you.

  7. And just so you know, you can substitute your own button replacements if you use Vanden's.

And hey, Fleet. The bottom two links in your sig appear to be broken.

Pretty sure they've dropped the Paragon Times. the last PT article was almost 2 years ago, and PT isn't on the website any more (I had to use the Internet Wayback Machine to get the articles on Paragonwiki)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, maybe they could reinstate it for something like this. Have it written by volunteers from players and the Scoop so the devs don't have to worry about it any more.

If they are concerned about game canon they can always set up a system where someone among the dev team can go over the articles and make sure everything is up to snuff before publishing.

  9. The title of your thread states the very reason this will never be added, "maximum farmage". The devs are trying desperately to curb farming, not to encourage it.

    Nuff said.

  10. I've wanted a headless option since CoV was released and I saw that bug in City Hall where my character appeared to be running around without his head. I've suggested it many times in Jay's Costume Request thread.

I don't see a problem with having handless and footless options as well. As long as the whole costume can't be invisible, no one really gains any benefit for looking like this. Also, you would always remain targetable unless you are really being affected by a Stealth/Hide/Invisibility power.

/signed a hundred times. Headless Jack wants to really be headless, please?

  11. Kool. Glad you found your answer.

Sorry we didn't pipe in to answer you but I guess we just didn't know the answer to that one. It's not something that's ever come up for me personally.

Thanks to you I'll have this answer ready for the next person who asks though.

  12. [ QUOTE ]
I will reiterate one last time; this is not because of any inherent security feature, this is because no one uses them. If the market shares were reversed, there would be no PC viruses.

<and yes, I understand that the OS architectures and permission structures are different and the viruses would not be the same, but this does not change the point.>

    [/ QUOTE ]

Obviously many people do use them though, just not malicious hackers who want to mess up people's systems just for the fun of doing it.

I own both a Mac and a PC and also use both types of computers at work. I'm willing to bet the majority of computers used to render graphics for this game are Mac. The majority of CGI movies are made on Macs. Pixar uses Macs exclusively.)

So, just saying that "no one uses them" is quite an overstatement.

  13. [ QUOTE ]
Security through obscurity isn't security. It's wishful thinking.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's not obscurity that makes a Mac less vulnerable to viruses. It's the fact that it uses a completely different kind of base system for computing that PC written viruses cannot navigate through.

99.99999% of viruses are written on PCs for PCs and therefor can only affect PCs.

Find a hacker anywhere that uses a Mac. I rest my case.

Sleek tights for gloves and boots!! All other new options pale in comparison to finally getting these oversights corrected!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Indeed. Thank the costume gods for finally adding this! I have have half a dozen costumes that use tights sleek and it it was always annoying to not have matching gloves/boots.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, thank JLove for these long awaited options. Now if we could just get a pair of Steampunk boots and T-Shirts that allow patterns...

And have we fixed that arm thing with the Newer Jacket section shirts, like Official?

Nope, the pattern on your chest still doesn't extend to the upper arm with Short Sleeves like it does when you go Sleeveless. So, my burn victim (bio-organic) Police Officer still can't wear his whole uniform.

Get on this please, Jay, oh sexy lord of costume goodness?

See my idea for the Superazzi.

Add an in-character section to the City Scoop. Have Scoop writers make and play their own Superazzi along with the NPCs, and combine both ideas into one.

The devs could then take the best of those stories and integrate them into the Paragon Times.

This would be really fun stuff to see in game and might bring in a lot of new readers for the Scoop.

  16. [ QUOTE ]
I would think they CoN friendly to all creatures. After all, villains want press too.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, but the point in having them con as unfriendly to NPC enemies is so that they can endanger themselves so that we can rescue them, or not.

If they con as friendly to everyone then those explosions and energy blasts won't ever affect them.

It's not like I've been agreeing with the Devs much lately (stupid badge deletions).

    [/ QUOTE ]

There I am in agreement. Some of the badges they're removing from MA don't really need to be removed.

  18. [ QUOTE ]
There's nothing in the definition you quoted to back up EITHER side of the "argument"

    [/ QUOTE ]

One of two or more rows, like..?

    Hover
    Air Superiority

    Fly

    Group Fly

Seems to support my definition of tier as far as the game is concerned.

Also, I work in QA and Web Development for a Website company. Quite often we have to decide to use words based on the majority misunderstanding other words or terms.

Yes, most of our forum goers are very intelligent and so they use the term in the correct way.

The majority of players however (most of which never come to the forums at all) are not quite as up to speed and so the devs probably decided to use the term in a standard 1, 2, 3 counting method instead of the way it was used before simply because it's easier for the layperson to understand. It's the same kind of decision I would make for our Web Site owners. I know they're not all stupid, but I have to build everything assuming the stupidest person in the world is going to use it and must be able to understand it.

  19. The only reason I would see this being useful is for disabled individuals who wish to play. I doubt it was created just so that people can be even lazier.

This is my first time hearing about it myself but I'm sure we have at least a few players that have tried it. Of course the likelihood of those players also visiting the forums on a regular basis is low. So, I wouldn't expect an answer to this question to be forthcoming.

When a tanker pops Unstoppable, would you say he's using his "Tier 9" ?

    [/ QUOTE ]

No. It's the 9th power, not the 9th tier and I would refer to it as such.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm afraid, given that we now have a definition of the word as the Devs see it, that it is, indeed, the 9th Tier.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Tier - 1 a: a row, rank, or layer of articles ; especially : one of two or more rows, levels, or ranks arranged one above another
    So says merriam-webster.com.

Since the devs use it simply for the sake of the ignorant I feel no compulsion to use it that way. Can we simply agree to disagree and leave it at that now, please?

Move along. Move along. There's nothing to see here.

  21. [ QUOTE ]
When a tanker pops Unstoppable, would you say he's using his "Tier 9" ?

also, if you're shooting for a broadcast, you wouldn't want a local in the bind. Though you could set it up like I do and do a local and a broadcast int he same bind

    /bind numpad1 "b Level $level $archetype LFT, PST!$$local Level $level $archetype LFT, PST!$$petsayname Cadre <em Binoculars>"

would be the bind I'd use for my Mastermind if I were to set one up

    [/ QUOTE ]

I always set my binds and macros up using "say". That way I can change channels and use the same bind in any of them.

Also, if you want all of your pets to use the binoculars use "all" instead of name.

Remember when you use a specific pet name the name must be exact, spacing and all.

    /bind l "say Level $level $origin $archetype LFT!$$petsay_all<em binoculars>"

The devs call the travel powers tier 2 powers

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, they don't. See my post above.

    [/ QUOTE ]

They haven't always. I am positive that I have seen travel powers referred to as tier 2, because that is what they are. Maybe over time the devs just started emulating the players in their ignorance of the meaning of the word tier. A tier is a level at which something becomes available, not just a counting system for telling what number a power is on a list.

Meh, if everyone wants to use the word wrong though, go for it.

I believe Hero 1 wrote most of the older mission arcs, IIRC.

Hero 1 started working for Cryptic as Issue 9 was being prepared. The mission in question debuted in Issue 2.
