Trailer was better than I expected, but still shaking from seeing X3....
Quote:Perhaps Magneto was causing the Blackbird to hover too????Ironically the only thing I really didn't like about the trailer was that it looked like the version of the SR-71 Blackbird they were using was hovering. I have absolutely no problem with comic book movies like this coming up with all sorts of sci-fi tech for things that can't actually exist in real life. But when they screw around with things that actually do exist and make them do things they can't do IRL that actually annoys me. Go figure. -
Flash #9 - looking forward to FlashPoint - will pick up the TimeMasters trade when it comes out in a month.
John Byrne's Next Men #(3)3 - loving that this story is continuing, and looking forward to Next Men - Aftermath next year.
Almost picked up the Namor Visionaries book, but will get that at Amazon (with a discount). -
I would say that the Thor outfit in the movie is from the recent JMS run and not the Kirby / Simonson run.
Also, as far as what else could be in Odin's Vault, don't forget that the Infinity Gauntlet appeared in the Marvel 'booth' at San Diego last year.... -

So I am in the position where the convention and the meet-n-greet are literally across the street from my office (John Hancock HQ). If any Devs want a tour of an Insurance giant just let me know in advance!
I have my 3 day pass all set, and am super-duper psyched to have the party on Friday night as Sat is my daughter's birthday and Sun is my wife's birthday. I have to make sure not to have too good a time Fri night as I am due to host an American Girl brunch for 12 on Sat morning.
If any of the Paragon staff wants to grab a drink in the area, I am happy to pick up the tab!
Is Posi going to offer up any D-n-D sessions before the convention hits? -
Quote:I thought I saw one newspaper headline that read 'EXCELSIOR'.Another thing I like are the peeks at the larger Marvel Universe around the Avengers. I.E., the cameos by Mr Fantastic and Wolverine (well, by James Howlett in 1943, at least), the headlines you see on newspapers like "Secret School for Mutants?" and Stark saying "Guess who I ticked off today? I'll give you a hint, his name rhymes with 'Boom.'"

Quote:What about Bendis' run on Ultimate Spider-Man and Johns' run on Green Lantern, or even Morrison's run on Batman? They seem to be the exception to the rule, but they do show that good writers can stick around on a book and produce compelling stories the old-fashioned way.Business conditions in the comics industry have changed to such an extent that Fantastic Four will never see runs like either the Stan Lee/Jack Kirby Silver Age or John Byrne's Bronze Age again. Quesada's model of over-arching events and temporary die-offs executed by a rotating series of jobbing writers is an attempt to forestall the inevitable changes the format will have to undergo to survive.

As far as the FF goes, is it really that odd that a member is about to die (cough cough Johnny cough cough) while the book is ramping up to issue #600???
Look for THE RETURN next year....probably at the end of their megaawesomeearthshakingthischangeseverything event FEAR ITSELF.
What do I get??? -
I bet it would sell like hotcakes if they slapped it into a black bag with the #1 on it. And only sold it on the direct market.
<cough cough> -
All around it was a great story-arc. I wonder if the FF can appear in the show (a la the picture of the FF or the cameo of Reed) but can not speak due to some legal rights? Or maybe I am overthinking it and they just did not want to pay to have Reed say a line or two....

Here is the cover to Venom #2, out April 2011 (ugh....):

Quote:Are we supposed to fill in the [Marvel NDA] in your message?Technically they are Hydra troops outfitted with [Marvel NDA] weapons designed by the Red Skull that uses the powersource known as the [Marvel NDA] hence the eerie glow to them.
I will go with Stark and Cosmic Cube.... -
Quote:Correct!Well...
what is part of cannon is supposedly the 6 issue 2010 miniseries and the new 2011 ongoing series...
However, it is considered that because these series, pretty much imply that they continue on from the previous 1999 BB volumes and those continue on from that animated series that the whole rest of the frame work is also more or less cannon...
At best/worst... the events of the animated series and the 1999 volumes are semi cannon where if they aren't contradicted then they have happened in some way... kinda like how even though Dick Grayson has never been Robin at any place in the cannon writings in modern age it is never disputed so its assumed most if not all the adventures of the pre-80s happened...
Per the writer, well let's let Wiki do the heavy lifting:
Penned by Adam Beechen, a non-DCAU Batman television writer, he says his comic book arc will open the door for the "legendary" DCAU to enter into the mainstream DC Universe (comics), tying into both continuities. The series takes place after McGinnis defeated the reborn Joker, picking up where Bruce Timm initially left off, but years before Terry learns that he shares Bruce Wayne's DNA.
Folks should also make sure to read the Superman / Batman Annual #4 as it is a BB story. -
Smart idea Mouse!
Given that the convention is in the new BCEC, with over 2x the space of last year's show, tickets should be readily available up until the convention.
However, I bought my 3 Day pass last week cause I like to play it safe.... -
And only certain ones at that. The isues that folks really, really want may never see reprint due to all the legal issues surrounding the books.

Quote:While the Q can provide input as CCO, Axel reports up to the Publisher (Dan Buckley) and somehow Tom B. figures into this as Senior VP of Publishing. My concern is that Quesada will still be CCO, so he can still be influencing the direction of the books.
I imagine that if the 3 folks on the publishing side agree on a point or a storyline that is different from the CCOs idea, their version is what will ultimately get published. -
I have been lurking and presenting a lot of these recommendations to my wife - thanks to all for the suggestions!

Quote:Yeah - I am with you on this.It is as it always is. Noone ever dies in comics. And an issue wrapped in plastic? That's so Death of Superman from what...1994? If that's the best that Marvel can pull out these days, then I'm glad I'm not really reading their books that much anymore.
S.
Marvel is also only selling this to the direct market (no news stand print run). I suppose this will get the speculators to buy multiple issues and create a shortage. -
That brought a smile to my face - congrats to you and your wife!
