Don't know if it's a false positive, but this link a) gives me a 403 Forbidden error, and b) causes MSE to claim it's Trojan:JS/Iframeinject.L
  2. When there's knockback on the team you get those larger cave maps.
  3. When it comes to specific powersets, I usually see requests for Kin, Emp and Rad. Also somewhat often, requests for a Granite Tank or Brute.

Maybe "demand" is more appropriate than "request" - they generally won't start the tf (or whatever) unless they get the powerset(s) they want.

The most irksome time was getting to 73 yds of the door at the top of that bloody mountain in the NE only to be buried by boulders flung by the Convention.

Nowadays, that "challenge" is gone, but back then, unless the beloved Taxibots gave you a lift, you needed to have your best ninja infiltration skills at work or you did not arrive alive.

    Ah, memories.
Yeah, as I was hitting send I thought "I'm gonna be called on that for the Hollows". Though for me the only part of the Hollows that ever got me killed was the Igneous spawns popping out of the ground way too late to compensate and avoid their wrath.

The rest is just a relatively short learning experience of mob aggro ranges though. At least that was my experience - dying repeatedly on the way to missions for the first week or three that I played, and then hardly ever again after that.
  5. The only areas I can really think of where I've been influenced (at least knowingly influenced) were silliness on the forums providing the names for a couple of my characters: Pretty Strong, and MURDERDOOM. I guess the general wisdom of building for the defense soft cap has been incorporated into a lot of my builds too.

Otherwise I'm a pretty self-contained loner type (though paradoxically I *far* prefer teaming to soloing...) in my own little world, and while I'm sure subconsciously I'm influenced by other people and external factors to some extent, on the surface at least I've always just done my own thing regardless, in real life and the game.
  6. It's an aoe, so it'll affect any of them that are within range of the one you cast it on (assuming no obstacles between them blocking it).

  8. A point of -res is generally worth more than a point of +dam, because +dam works off the base unenhanced damage of your powers, while -res works off the final enhanced + buffed damage of your powers. So generally that point of -res will boost your final damage by more than the point of +dmg.

However, Kin usually pumps out a *lot* more +dmg than just about any set does -res, so will usually boost overall offense by more (esp. since it can also buff recharge to get bigger attacks up more often).

Edit: also worth noting that once at the +dmg cap more +dmg obviously does nothing, while -res will continue to boost the damage (I think there's a -res cap, but it's a lot harder to reach).

I mean, for crying out loud, you already get jetpacks just for sneezing, why do you need to be getting inherent travel that early? (Not to mention it makes a mock of Kheldians' ability to fly or teleport from the get-go, and the "City Traveler" vet reward. :P )

I remember when travel actually used to be hard. And as much as I grumbled about it, and am happy with the recent merging of transport lines, Ouroboros travel ability, and SG base porters, I can't help feeling a little sad that they're making it so easy now.
I reckon moving up the travel powers will have more than a little to do with the COmpetition giving travel powers from level 1. If someone's trying out superhero MMOs and they've just come from one in which travel is level 1, it'll create an immediate negative reaction to find the next one they try makes them wait until 14.

And travel was never hard. It was more time consuming, but despite many game designers' apparent opinions to the contrary, time consuming isn't harder, it's just easy for longer. It's not like you had any real chance of "failing" to travel to your destination (Shadow Shard being the only possible exception).
  10. It won't take Knockback sets. It is incorrectly flagged to take Endurance Modification instead. A bug to be sure, but seems to be pretty far down the list in terms of it ever being fixed.

Same is true of Power Blast in the same set.
  11. Running on Victory, Virtue, and Freedom I still see quite a lot of Lambdas forming. Keyes not so much.

In my experience it's about 2:1 ratio of BAF:Lambda, with Keyes only forming a couple of percent of the time (I've never seen Keyes form on Victory during the hours I play).
  12. Tbh, all the Lore pets are pretty good. Some are better than others, and some are stronger in aoe or single target, but they're all worth having for cracking hard targets etc. Stronger than almost all non-incarnate pets (well, the Boss tier ones are, the Lts give a more average performance).

From what I remember the Toxic Tarantula is roughly middle of the pack for single target dps (someone did some testing vs a Pylon), and comes with a toxic damage aoe. Whatever the comparative strength vs other flavours, I've got it on my Crab Spider and it definitely tears things up.
  13. There's not a lot I'd change (I disagree with a lot of Creamcat's post) and a lot of that build is similar to my own Necro/Dark.

    A few minor suggestions though:

Swap the Glimpse of the Abyss in Fearsome Stare for Cloud Senses. This isn't a 100% definite better slotting, but personally I find that Fear has a decent duration unenhanced to the point that unless you're fighting deep purples you can pretty much perma it. So I like to combine that with an even bigger -tohit debuff. It's kinda a personal preference thing though.

If you're never actually using Black Hole may as well swap it for another power that could at least be an IO mule. Good option for that is Combat Jumping - low cost, decent benefits in its own right, and can take a LoTG +rech.

I'm not sure why you have Acc/End in Tar Patch? It's autohit and not especially endurance intensive (esp. when you have two End/Rech/Slow already). I'd suggest just moving that slot elsewhere.

I'm also not sure Hover needs the Endurance reduction IO - I'd probably move that to one of the pet upgrade powers, or replace it with another End/Fly (Zephyr) if you really feel it's burning endurance.

I don't think Tactics is overslotted, but I would switch it to Gaussian's for (imo) better set bonuses.

Personally I went for more -tohit and +heal on my Dark Servant to further eliminate incoming damage - the only proc I kept was Cloud Senses since it'll fire off everything except the hold. But that's probably a personal preference thing.

I do agree that Twilight Grasp is maybe a bit overslotted. But more than that, you've not soft-capped the healing value. All my Dark Miasma characters (I have 4) are currently using the first 5 pieces of Touch of the Nictus and I rarely have any issues with it missing - you still get a good chunk of accuracy from the 5 pieces, and then accuracy set bonuses from elsewhere in the build (and +tohit from Tactics in your build) so I don't think the extra is doing a lot for you. I could see you keeping it to 6 slots for the extra recharge though - maybe change the generic Acc for the Nictus Heal piece. If you really really want that accuracy - though I don't think you need it - change the generic Accuracy for the Thief of Essence Acc/Heal, due to ED softcap you'll still get almost as much accuracy (about 4% less) but gain ~20% healing enhancement.

Some of the above is just personal taste, and I don't pretend to be the most hardcore minmaxer out there so there's probably better tweaks available, but a few of those I definitely think would benefit you.
  14. I'll re-roll City Hall, my Grav/Sonic Controller (level 22) as a Grav/Time.

I *might* re-roll Grarg, my Axe/WP Brute as Titan Weapons when it goes live, but I'm not sure.

And I'll probably make a third version of Biowraith as a Dark/Dark Blaster.

That's about it. For the other sets I have placeholder characters (some that have been sitting there for years) that I'll be using (I suppose technically that's a re-roll, but it's a level 1 re-roll ).

Keep in mind that your major issues are not the other persons major issues and what drives the other person nuts probably doesn't even cross your radar as a problem.
I think part of his point is that they are the kinds of issue that create a bad impression for new players - new players we expect to see a lot of and want to stick around and spend money on the game. I don't think it's necessarily meant to be about things that really bug us existing players.

I mean, obviously Rest not auto-moving to your tray at level 2 isn't anything more than a very minor quibble for someone who's played the game for any length of time, because they already know about Rest and where to find it (bar the bag of hammers people, who are scarily widespread). It's a different story for a brand new player though, as it's something they may not even know to look for.

LGTF graphics glitch is maybe less of an issue in that sense since you have to get to 50 (well, 45) to experience it, but it's still going to create a pretty negative impression on someone that's not played for long and maybe hasn't made up their minds on whether to stay - it's not like it's just a small texture on a wall somewhere, it's pretty much the entire room disappearing on you.
  16. I'm gonna hold onto mine, in case something better appears in the beta store later on.

I am. I have a Grav/Sonic that I've not played much (got him through Praetoria then kinda shelved him) that I'll be rerolling as Grav/Time. He's a mentally unstable civil servant whose powers first manifest when he got particularly worked up at his proposals being rejected (again) during a meeting - the other participants did not survive, crushed to death as he ranted at them (and having completely lost his sanity at this point, he didn't even notice). I figure Time kinda fits the theme: red tape delays, time slowing to a crawl during boring meetings, etc (I work in local government myself ). I don't plan to have his powers actually be a literal manifestation of bureaucracy or anything, it's just a nice parallel.

I'd only really put Sonic on him because it's the only buff/debuff set I've not used yet, but I never quite liked the aesthetic of it on him. From what I've seen the visuals of Time will suit him better.

Not the PTOD, the 'purple patch' is a different mechanism that was added very early in the game's life. It's the standard MMO system where the effects of your powers are scaled based on the relative level of the enemy you're fighting (and the scaling accelerates rapidly once you get to purple con enemies, hence the nickname). So against enemies higher level than you, you'll do less damage, your mezzes have shorter duration, and your debuffs have lower values (and against lower level enemies, the opposite). Before that patch went in, it wasn't uncommon for teams to fight +10 enemies and the like.

Anyway, against an enemy 3 levels above you, all your powers are at 65% of normal effectiveness. For the full details, see http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Purple_Patch

It's not a huge leap of logic to determine that you can drag power icons from other places as well.

It's pretty obvious that Inspirations brings up your inspiration trays and Enhancements brings up your enhancement trays. Anyone who has ever played a videoi game in their life is going to eventually figure that looking in the tab called "Powers" would be a good place to start to find powers they expect they should have.

I think you dramatically underestimate the average gamer's ability to figure things out.
See the first month or two of the Lambda run, and people that just couldn't figure out where to find their temp powers even with half the league explaining it step by step to them. I don't think he's underestimating them.

Heh, that's hardly unique to Keyes. People are really bad at following directions on the other two trials as well. Even now, when most apparently know how those trials work, you still get a raft of people every single run who are utterly oblivious to the few instructions put out over league chat.

In fairness, I've met a lot of people who made that mistake - more than one that has spent the entire final battle screaming as us to keep the entanglements separate because they didn't want to get held. I'm guessing it's the name "entanglement" that's making people assume that, I dunno.

The idea is that since they all give the same salvage, players will run BAF and Lambda to get their commons and uncommons, then upgrade to the tougher Keyes and Underground to get their rares. From an interview in GamePro.
I see what you did there.

I'm posting this without spending as much time as I should reading the thread due to real life distractions, so apologies if this is in fact covered, but: bear in mind that if it's a level 53 AV the final debuff value will be multiplied by 0.65 due to the purple patch, on top of the inherent AV resistance (so it'd be .14 * .65 * 186.72= 16.99 to a level 53 AV).

So far it looks like Keys is the odd person out in terms of trials among the player base.
This, basically. Personally, I'm up for Keyes if one happens to be forming when I'm not otherwise engaged, but I rarely ever see that happening and I'm not sufficiently motivated to actively seek one out (or form one myself) since compared with the other trials it's generally more effort ("hassle" may be more accurate) and time expended (partly due to people not knowing what to do and slowing it down, I guess) for the same reward.

I don't think it's especially tough to figure out what you're meant to do at each stage though, especially if you read the trial overview on the CoH homepage before you run it. That said, it *is* very chaotic and can be tough to keep track of where the rest of the league is and what they're currently doing. And that final battle is a mess of effects and mechanics of varying importance, so again easy to lose track of things there.
