Quote:For one, I love burn notice. Everyone else in my house finds it stupid. great way to tie it in there. I hadn't thought of working that mindset into my characters.Yeah, Diggaroo, this is all your fault. You had to go and be awesome for everyone to see.
Well, here's my attempt at doing something cool.
If you haven't already. I'd add that into your guide, some people would definitely find it useful. Especially the new 'Shades who die really fast even when eclipsed :P
Edit:
Did that song inspire your name choice for your 'shade? I got mine from "Divide" by Disturbed. -
Did I hear, New mastermind powerset suggestions?
Edit: with /bacon support? -
Quote:Well, if you are dying very often with that tactic it could be a matter of your timing. The thing about warshades are that they can teeter on the brink of death a lot because you're in the "find more bodies" mindset. Since your eclipse isn't perma, those 15 seconds could make a difference in your pacing; basically instead of the steady pace of a capp'd tank, you have to work in bursts...which is hard to adjust to.As the thread title says, when I solo I die way to much. On a normal map filled with enemies normally considered easy (council, battle maiden's praetorians, etc.) I tend to hit the floor every 2-4 mobs.
Offcourse I've read Dechs' MF-ing bible, and I've got the "more bodies" mantra stuck in my head, but even with the 85% ress to all I get from Eclipse my green bar depletes faster than i can "arrest" the enemies around me.
I run at +0/x6 no bosses and a "normal" fight goes like this for me:
-Wait for eclipse to recharge (about 15 seconds from perma, but working on that)
-Run in with shadow cloak and SS activated
-Find a spot where i can hit at least 6 enemies with eclipse, and use eclipse
-Human Mire -> Dwarf Mire -> Nova Detonation -> Nova Emanation -> Dwarf Mire -> ND -> NE, etc. till there's only 1 or 2 luits standing
- Dwarf ST attacks to take care of the last few
- Stygian return/Dark Extraction.
What am I doing wrong? I really want to like this toon, but being unable to survive for any lenght of time solo just plain sucks.
If your timing is off by even a bit, it could get you killed quite easily.
As it stands, I don't see anything wrong with your strategy. I've learned to embrace death on my 'shade and use it as a weapon. If i die (even in "godmode") I can just use [Stygian Return] and get ten seconds of glorious retribution. Essentially I'll GWell a minon, unchain essence him, and use emanation to perma-stun any remaining enemies :3
The way I see it death is a warshade's currency. You deal in it, and you get it in return. You take their souls, they take your life. So Use stygian return and take their souls again. Embrace it -
Quote:Along with the lack of a crash, you have to consider that it gives a bonus to melee defense during the animation of the attack. Which is an added bonus to the ranged ATs who can be squishy in melee range.Yikes. It could definitely use some cleaning up then.
After thinking about it, I have to agree on HoB not being a lively candidate for a shorter animation time. While it's ridiculously long, it doesn't have a crash.
EDIT:
Although impractical, it would be totally wicked if combined with a /MA powerset *hint*hint* -

Quote:This is a work of art.Necro0mNomNomicon, I must say you are a master at your craft. Before reading this guide, I really don’t think I understood anything about this game. I’m surprised that I managed to even load it, being the n00b that I was.
I had one concern in reading it though. I am not one to doubt the POWER of knockback. Nay, it is a beautiful thing. But I was wondering…as any aspiring apprentice might…what about the untold wonder that is intangibility?
With that in mind, I present to you my build, which I will begin to construct tonight (on Freedom of course). I will follow it with notes…and pray that I can achieve half the level of helpentroping that you have. Any feedback you have for me would be wonderful.

While I see the beauty in making your tanks and brutes invisible, some foolish noobs will still try to “take the fight to the enemy”. They will use their taunts and attacks to still try to gain agro, despite the level of help you have heaped upon them. As a controller, its my job to help them anyways. And my answer to this dilemma is a power called Sonic Repulsion. This helpful power will repel the enemies from a target of your choice. Place it on your brutes and any foe they get close to will fly away! The biggest problem with this power is trying to manage the number of “thank you” tells you will get while using it!
I adopted many of your other ideas as well…group fly, teleport, and grant invisibility are all very very important, and I will make sure to never skip them on another character. Wormhole is an amazing power that fits well. It is even dual purpose. When your team is in dire trouble, you can easily use wormhole to add another group or two to the mix. The extra foes will surely force your allies to rise to the challenge and overcome this. Likewise, you can use it to save your allies from the enemies. Use it at random to pull a whole spawn away from an ally. When your brute catches back up to them, he may even find that they have been magically phase shifted! Super Speed + a sleath IO ensures you can sneak into a group and use wormhole FIRST THING!
If things start to go really bad, you can use hibernate to save yourself. This is important, because once much of the team has dropped, they will need someone who’s still in the action to pull the freshly rezed toons back in.
My build is lacking the almighty knockback powers that yours has..but there are a few in there. And don’t forget, you can always recall your singularity into the enemy ranks for a nice scatter!
Oddly enough: if everyone who posted a build made their character and then roll'd an 8-man team. It would most likely be the best team ever. -
Awesome video!
I love it, it really brings the strengths of peace bringers into the spotlight
The music is great, idk why I haven't heard of it before.
Oddly enough, my favorite part is 00:46. Just watching seekers disperse that mob makes me giggle. :3 -
Quote:I would really like this actually. I tried using my seekers to take the alpha strike for me, and I ended up having to dwarf TP PAST the group i'm trying to bomb. So that the seekers would follow me into a mob. They can easily reduce Solar Flare's damage so it's a knock down instead of a knock back. I usually don't have a big problem with a cone aoe but I really dislike pbaoe knock back because everything is scattered AWAY from you even if you do it at corner.
Anyway, back to the main topic. I forgot to mention that I was REALLY SURPRISED that you can't drop Photon Seekers the way you drop Seeker Drones in /Trap. If I can drop seekers in first to take alpha, then I'll love P. Seekers more.
Can the dev please at least make it Photon Seekers "dropable"?
Does anyone know exactly how the seekers determine when to attack, proximity wise?
They could most likely be re-worked to function like the seeker drones. This would make the power more versatile. I could use it for a planned attack, or a mini-PBAoE attack. -
I would hope that the LRM rocket would be included in some sort of snipe buff :3
Then I can phewwww*boom more effectively -
Like you said THB, KB isn't exactly productive and yeah i agree, but that's just something I have fun using in-game. CoX is exactly that: a G-A-M-E. Games are meant to be played to have fun. If someone has more fun tossing bad guys around rather than killing them where they stand and maxing their stats, so be it. That's how they should play the game. Plain and simple. If you don't like knockback on a PB, then play your warshade.
You obviously see them as more superior, so why try to make a Pesudo'Shade when you already have one to play with. They're different ATs, with different mechanics and playstyles...deal with it.
Quote:Wait, so your not agreeing, to disagree with me? Even though your opinion JUST disagreed with mine. Now you're arguing for the sake of arguing. No, because it's a gigantic flaw in the Archetype and something that needs to be addressed if it's ever going to be on par with other AT's.
I'm no longer wasting my time with this fruitless debate. I know my opinion, and yours isnt going to change. I'm mature enough to accept that and not care. -
Yeah me either. >.<
Knockback works with some people, and it doesn't for others. It's just a preference and I doubt KB will be going anywhere anytime soon.
Agree to disagree sep?Otherwise we're just going to be arguing in circles.
-
Edit: I removed everything in this post, because I believe my KB argument isn't only off topic, but I don't want it to get any further out of hand with long quote replies ect ect ect.
THB:
Just because knockback slows down your playstyle, doesn't mean it's a problem.
Not every player ignorantly tosses around their knock back like it doesn't exist; from your statements that's how it seems you see things. It disrupts efficiency, therefore it's a problem. Which is entirely false.
If you've ever played with me outside of a farm, or KFs you would know that I'm not one of those Ignorant knock back fiends. If i know that someone is bothered by my knockback, i do something about it. plain and simple
I've said this once and I'll say it again: Knockback isn't the problem, it's how the player uses it.
End of discussion. Whatever you have to say on that won't change my opinion, just like whatever I say won't change yours.
Also* THB, if my knockback was that much of a bother to you, why didn't you say anything? On pug teams I always advertise that I know my knockback can be annoying, and if it is a bother to the team to let me know so i can plan according to the team's play style. -
Oops
Quote:Right, but that alone is so clicky and targety and is in and of itself not a substitute for the overall lack of team usefulness a PB can provide. If you're tabbing through your team to deliver futile ST heals throughout the duration of an AV fight, you're not able to do much of anything else, at least satisfactorily.
Futile? lol It did keep people alive, and aren't you the one who is always telling me to heal your fluffiesIf my 'Shade team mates are being kept alive and not worrying about needing HP with a lack of bodies, they're pumping out dmg rather than scurrying off for more HP food
Either way, DPS trade of is the way I see it. What I don't do, they do in return rather than dying. (plus, I suck at ST attack chains >.> Idk how to figure em' out, so i try to be as helpful as possible...click & go baby!)
Quote:Making the self heal a PBAOE would make PB's as useful to teams as Warshades are when they permanently stun entire groups. Being able to heal all your allies and have a targeted ST heal you can serve a valid support purpose without treading on the toes of traditional support AT's due to a lack of buffs and debuffs.
Quote:KB is never good for end game purposes which is the ultimate goal of all characters, and what does death have to do with anything? Having a death requirement for PB powers (not even sure what you're talking about with this, so I'm making an educated guess) would be bad for the AT- It would be yet another example of PB's being watered down and sub-par Warshades. PB's are self contained and should stay that way.
KB is just as useful as your stuns, slows, or holds, it just isn't well suited for a min/max, herd em' up style of gameplay...to say it's "never good" is unrealistic. On a Baf knockback can easily stall out a large group of escaping prisoners, giving ST players time to kill those LTS while the minions are on their rears. Meanwhile I'm KBing them further and further back while killing them, keeping them from their destination.
By "death" I meant the detonation/death of the original photon seekers, not the caster; cause ya' know...they essentially bright fluffy suicide bombers.
Requiring the caster to die would be just dumb. lmao
Quote:The point is that Peacebringers have no useful team function- Kheldians are meant to be 'jack of all trades' characters, and Warshades live up to this standard by providing AOE damage, ST damage, tanking, and support- The support for Warshades being their control. I'm not suggesting that Peacebringers have their AOE, ST, or tanking taken away from them- They just aren't good enough at any type of support.
'Shades don't fall into this category at all, Mez isn't support it is crowd control. THe stun in no way directly buffs your team mates, nor do they require an ally to be targeted. Solo, stunning enemies is crowd control, on teams, it's still crowd control. Just because enemies can't attack your team mates doesn't mean it's "support."
Yes I can agree that it is helpful to team mates, but it doesn't fall under the game's definition of support abilities.
If you're going to say that "support" is stunning enemies, then so is knockback.
If an enemy is stunned, they momentarily can't attack. If an enemy is hit with a high mag knockback, they fall on their butt and momentarily can't attack. From your logic, both are forms of "support." Therefore, your argument that PBs provide no "support" (by your definition) to a team is invalid.
EDIT: I realized that this reply might be taken harshly, and In no way is this directed at THB personally. I'm just debating my viewpoint in the argument. -
Quote:I'm not to sure about the whole "Make glowing touch a PBAoE Heal" standpoint. The other day on our Kheldian Fridays: STF I was using glowing touch to save anyone nearly two shotted by LR. Although a PBAoE Heal would work for this too...I was able to do this very quickly, because of the range of Glowing touch. I didn't have to fly over and hug stone when he was nearly dead, or anyone else for that matterActually, adding a stun secondary instead of KB would be awesome for Photon Seekers, but I'm not sure it's the right direction to go in.. Warshades would still be better at controlling mobs. I personally would rather see PB's given a "jack of all, master of none" emphasis placed on healing- Making the self heal a PBAOE would be a huge step in the right direction imo. If an emphasis is placed on stuns for PB fixes and ideas like this are implemented, it just means that PB's will continue their current function which is being not quite as good as Warshades at anything they do.
For Photon Seekers, I like the idea that's already been widely agreed upon (I forget who presented it originally, probably Microcosm) that the Seekers should summon something comparable to Polar Lights lore pets after every cast after the initial explosion. Even if this happened though, the KB from the initial BOOM would still be enough for me to hate the power, so that brings us back to the ultimate suggestion in that all PB's KB should be changed to KD.Instead I just click, heal, and keep blasting without having to distract myself from killing the Pillars by having to hug anyone nearly dead.
To change the subject: if seekers summoned a Polar light upon death, wouldn't strong knockback be better? Those polar lights have bright nova AoEs and the KB would push the mobs radially away from the polar light, allowing for more AoE potential with Scatter.
Either way I would love the polar Lights pet though :3 Considering I already have them for my Lore!
Four white fluffballs of luminous doom, Where do i sign up? -
-
Yeah probably, It would be nice to have some more engaging animation options...or even color customization would be nice. I love the look of Glowing Touch, but i can't get it anywhere else.
-
Quote:Barrier is always nice, for the insanely high defense values. I know you human-formers love your defenseOh, I forgot about the stuns! Nasty little boogers they are! Perhaps 2-3 clarions per team sounds like a wise decision? The rest could be varied. (I forget what the resistance one is called, but surely we will most definitely NOT need that one. Resistance Cap is my, and many other Kheldian's, middle name!)
-
For the Op:
Interesting, but it won't go very far, considering the forms themselves have global buffs already. Which is essentially an inherent of it's own. Fury would make more sense if dwarf had a better/more fluent attack chain. There tends to be decent pauses between the attack bursts which wouldn't work well with fury, now a taunt aura...that would be nice!
Personally:
I'd love more forms to choose from :3 Like in an epic pool or something.
On a more realistic approach:
Fix for dwarf form: GIVE MEH BACK MY FOOTSTOMP ANIMATION >:||||| -
Absolutely love it! Awesome touch with the ending too
-
Thanks for all of the help guys!
I've reduced Cauld's build down to this, I shuffled some slots around just as a budget preference.

Hmmm........
Peacebringer, or 'Shade....
Decisions decisions... -
I have looked through the guides, and the forum in general and i have not found any posts giving guidance to a SR/SS tanker!
D:
I've been thinking of making one and I'm not really sure what to generally slot for. For now I'm build to the softcap for all positionals and around 288% regen and 3.4/s recovery I'm not exactly sure how to slot my melee attacks though.
Might it be best to go for more recharge, to keep my secondary taunts constantly pumping out with SS's fast attack chain, or go for more S/L defense with Kinetic combats, and some recovery bonuses as well.
Here's what i have so far:

Thanks for all the help everyone. I've FINALLY made my choices:
1. Kin/Archery Defender (I thought hard about this one, and I figured the lack of perfect synergy might be a good challenge)
2. Archery/TA Corruptor - just because its a classic
Both are very pleasing so far! -
I was just wondering, do defenders get /kin? I was just playing my brute and it was SO INVIGORATING to kill an enemy in 1 shot with a "long bow" temp power I got, im thinking /kin might pair well.
I know /Kin is awesome for pumping up those damage numbers -
Quote:I like this idea, but some people would definitely cry foul due to seeker's knockback secondary affect. Also, your idea is frontloaded. Ex: If there are 8 enemies, you get 8 seekers.
Mine isn't. You get your initial seeker(s), which would grow in number as you kill stuff.
I'd suggest making it a "minefield" patch power, It would work just as you suggested. Since PB's are known for their knockback it would help in planning, sort of like how a /devices blaster might KB a group of enemies into a trip mine, or a /fire mastery would with bonfire.
