  1. If you're talking specifically about certain PBAoE powers like quicksand and orbiting death, they're killing everyone. I get a 40-50% performance hit turning on orbiting death with my warshade.

The good news: I doubt you'll ever want for a team again. The bad news: No matter what their archetype says, your teammates will all be stalkers.

Hilarious. Thank you for starting my mkorning off right.

    Great job, everyone!
  3. Lighthouse and Positron,

Please take note of This thread.

Last night, I was running an 8 man team without any problems. A couple people logged and I found 2 defenders (2 TA/Archery, imagine the odds). Then when we started fights, they dropped glue arrowsx2, oil slicksx2, flashing arrow thingsx2 and the game stopped moving for seconds at a time, for everyone on the team. At one point, I asked the archers to stop using there powers and sit in the corner and surprisingly there was no lag after that. Thats bad when you have to tell players, please dont play...

Wow. Devs, ... wow. TA/A's don't get enough love as it is. Now this?

I always wondered do you have to have a special Video Card to download PhysX are is just software that works with most Video cards?

    [/ QUOTE ]

People have said that installing the software even though you don't have the hardware does give a boost in physics performance. But honestly, I'm not sure I notice a difference myself.

But I don't think it's hurting either, so you have nothing to lose by trying.

I wonder tho if the game is designed to use a particular version of the PhysX software? There have been a few updates over the last couple of months, and I don't know if that helps or hurts things.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I PMed Lighthouse with several questions regarding the PhysX software, so hopefully a post will be forthcoming about the specifics.
  6. Thanks, Positron.

For those curious, I PMed Posi asking for this thread. Lighthouse, I don't know if Positron passed the request on to you or not, or if many others also asked for the thread, but I'm thankful that it was started.

    Items I've noticed:

Persistent Lag Spikes. Not constant, but enough to be noticed. This, of course, leads to a persistent recurring glitch.

Even outside of the lag spikes, power animations are missing more often now, having to reclick powers to fire them off has increased, overall choppiness in gameplay has increased.

When I get home tonight and over the weekend, I'll be more attentive to the netgraph and attempt to get more specific.

Overall FPS seems consistent. I've had no lockups, and only one LCMS last night since I-8 go live.

Overall performance has dropped 10-15% since I-7, but only in city ones. Door missions appear untouched. Perhaps this is due to more players being logged in and the server is suffering for it, perhaps something else has occurred.

By the time this is read, I'll have updated my rigs and settings link in my sig.

As I've stated in other threads, I'm not sure what needs to be done to return to us some of the performance we once had, but something must be done soon. This is now the 4th issue including CoV go live that performance has continued to decline.

Please, have the coders go back in and redo whatever is necessary to get rid of the occlusion issue, the power effects that nail FPS like dark/warshade powers and wallcrawlinig auras.

Please find out what information the servers can keep to themselves instead of dumping to the client to lessen the impact on our systems. If I'm on monkey island in PI, I shouldn't be getting a performance hit from someone coming in on the ferry.

If at all possible, please rewrite Bloom, Depth of Field and High Water so that ALL of your players can use driver manage FSAA, since software drive FSAA is either a performance hit, for Nvidia cards, or nonfunctional, as for ATI cards.
  7. The 92** series is no longer supported by ATI and hasn't been since (I believe) the Catalyst 6.5s.

You can probably still play, but it's time to upgrade.
  8. The only thing that helped me in Grandville was upgrading from Rig 2 to Rig 1 as per the link in my sig.

1300 bucks got me to where I don't dip below 30FPS. Running around the walls, I cruise in the 50s. Standing in front of the GV tower, I sit in the low 40s.
  9. KK,

The 6.11s are working fine for me at this time.

    Nymie,

I'm playing NWN2 right now, and apparently EVERYONE is having issues with their water effects. I never noticed a problem in NWN1, but it's been a while since I've run it.

I must admit that my ire toward Cryptic's HDR implementation has softened somewhat since loading NWN2. At least I CAN enable FSAA in the driver and have it work with CoH/V. So far, I haven't found what to disable to allow FSAA functionality in NWN2. Driving me nuts, actually. Finished it anyway, of course.

What I find unfortunate is that these issues were known for 3+ weeks from the test server, and yet they were not fixed before pushing it to live. Why have a test server is you're not actually going to use it correctly to test and fix before release?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Time versus Desire.

Sometimes, you just can't GET it fixed to meet your own deadline.

Sometimes the delays simply aren't worth it.
  11. Long standing issues? I've got a link in my sig for you!

Here's a repost just in case:

ATI Related Issues with CoH/V as of Issue 7

    FSAA
Setting FSAA in game to 4X causes the world, but not your in game windows/menus to go black. With 2X it sometimes works. FSAA managed in game has a higher performance hit than having FSAA managed by the Catalyst Control Center.
-Note: This issue may be related to running 1920X1200 on an LCD through DVI.

    Crytpic's HDR Implementation
Bloom, Depth of Field and Water set to High break FSAA, regardless of how FSAA is enabled. One or all three, any combination. As it was explained to me by the developers, these three effects are rendered using a pixel buffer and ATI's FSAA implementation can not function with this pixel buffer. Other terms I've seen used for this pixel buffer: front buffer, post-process rendering. Low Water does not use this pixel buffer and so does not break FSAA.
There is another bug that was introduced around the Catalyst 6.7s that causes a ghosted image to appear when you look out over water. This ghost image is of whatever was on your screen at either the moment you turned on one of the three effects, or whatever was on the screen at login if you already had an effect enabled. As of the Catalyst 6.10s, this ghosted image is still an issue.

The Contact and Character Information Windows
On AGP ATI cards, Fast Writes MUST be enabled, or crashes are likely to occur when these screens are called up. Even if fast writes are enabled, there is still a substantial pause when clicking on Contacts, and this pause is directly related to the number of images within the list.
-Note: Issue 8 is on test, and the way these images are brought forth has changed. Although there is no longer a pause, on my system at least, there is a major FPS hit as the images are loaded.

    Grandville and 92** series cards
Having Geometry Buffers enabled within the game while using a 92** series card causes graphical anomolies in Grandville and often an inability to even zone there.

If I missed any, which I no doubt have, please remind me of them by PMing me.

Did a level 50 Safeguard mission and came across a possible problem.

One of the side missions started in the sewers, went into a tunnel via a broken wall in the sewers, then into an office room via a hole in the floor. Several of the MoBs in the mission just disappeared when I tried to attack them. I searched high and low but never found them and didn't get to finish that side mission.

This was happening and /bugged on test.
  13. And swipe is better than strike now. You can't slot dead-sexiness, but it's quite the powerful secondary effect.

    At lvl 50:
    Swipe: 43.79 lethal damage, 1.5cast, 1.7recharge
    Strike: 62.56 lethal damage, 1.17cast, 3.2recharge

If I'm understanding that information correctly:
Swipe: Every 3.2 seconds, 43.79 damage
Strike: Every 4.37 secs, 62.56 damage

    Over 1 minute:
    Swipe: 821.1 damage
    Strike: 858.9 damage

Dead Sexiness is currently being valued at 1 gazillion damage. Swipe wins.

    Numbers from here.

Seismic activity on the moon changed our tides!?!? Was this 'seismic activity' the moon breaking up into a ring around Earth?? How could... ok ok, fiction, suspend disbelief... go with it Zloth...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Zloth, the activity was SO severe that the moon rapidly lost distance between itself and the Earth. Thus the tide changes.

Things have gone back to normal because Statesman pushed the moon back into its prior orbit.

    Or.. something...

yea, yea.. the moon.... it's alive! The seismic activity was gas. It farted, got shoved toward earth causing tidal upheaval. Statesman gave it some pepto and shoved it back into proper orbit.

    Yea... that's it.

Switching to this thread for a 6.10 discussion. 6.10s are better than the 6.8s?
And I'm getting conflicting answers on FSAA and AF. Definately off in game, enabled in control center, right?

    [/ QUOTE ]

6.10s are better than 6.8s, yes.

The conflicting reports are coming from what folks need to do.

I stand behind having the CCC manage FSAA and AF. FSAA in game breaks for me by causing the world, not the GUI, to turn black at 4X.

However, having FSAA enabled in the CCC seems to be one of the causes of the alt-tab issue. (Although not the only cause by far.)

I downloaded the driver cleaner it erased everything peroid, my resolution went back to prehistoric 680 whatever I had to go to all my websites and reload all the drivers from scratch. This guide caused nothing but problems.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thus the importance of reading up on software before using it.

As Psygon stated, the purpose of driver cleaner is to WIPE OUT existing driver files so that older files aren't being used when you attempt to install new sets.

It's also why I stated specifically: "Now run Driver Cleaner and clean every instance of your video components that you see listed. If you are uncomfortable choosing, read the help files within the application to get comfortable." No where did I state to remove anything but components related to your video card.

However, you have raised a valuable point and if I am to ever revise this guide, I will make sure to make it more clear what should and should not be marked for cleansing.

As for Norton, I stand by my statement, although it is an opinion, it is one based on a decade of service in the tech industry. Norton AV and firewall solutions are bloated, issue causing garbage. McAfee isn't much better.

I keep my turn rate capped at 1000% on all my characters. I've never understood why anyone plays with it lower.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    How does this help you?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Speeding up the camera spin allows me to get enemies into my field of vision faster. Inside missions I keep my camera zoomed relatively near to my character so that it doesn't boucne around due to nearby walls. So not being able to see very far behind me means I have to turn in order to target.

But the main reason is that I see other players only using Q and E for turning and by the time they've turned around, I'm already turned and down the hallway.

Yes, you can also use your mouse while holding down the right key, but I've found it far better, at least for my pace of play, to max out both.
