  1. Oliver Reed was the most kick butt Athos. But, I must confess Oliver Platt did a pretty cool Porthos. My favorite D'Artagnan was Gene Kelly from the 1948 Three Musketeers film (Angela Lansbury as Queen Anne? Vincent Price as Richelieu? How cool is THAT?!?) And, my top Aramis has to be Jeremy Irons.
  2. Venture is, in my opinion, wrong, and bigoted. But, then again, that's the problem with the zealots...

To quote a very interesting guy I met in New Orleans 20 years ago:

"Well... It don't make no nevermind anyhow. Leastways, not the way things is now."

You just watch... Your alleged player base that has been itching to storm the AE for the great story arcs once all those pesky "farms" are gone...

    doesn't exist.
  3. Father Xmas, do you have a preference for liquid cooling over fans? And, You have great (currently) $700 build and a (currently) $1,275 build...

How would you split the difference and make the best possible gaming desktop for an even thousand dollars?

If we assume (as I do) that this does not include the gaming keyboard, mouse or monitor, and is JUST the machine itself, what would you do? Would you pare down your 1350 or beef up your 750?

I was also wondering, what is the "cool" monitor(s) to run on nowadays? 24"? Do you have preferences? I saw a buddy of mine who runs a 15" off to the side and a 24" centered. The 15 is in windows mode and has all his trays and chat and even (I think if I recalled it correctly) either a Skype video feed and/or the controls for Vent. Then the 24" in the center was just the game.

As I recall, his was a self-built rig too, with dual graphics cards I think.

Sorry for all the questions, but my main machine is a Dell 1720 with the 8400M GS in it, and with a 32 bit Windows 7, I can't expand beyond 3 Gb of RAM (I run the 2 the factory installed). It was a great machine in early 2008, but Running Ultra on this rig is like watching a fast slideshow. I want to build a machine for running Ultra Mode, but to do so as quietly and coolly as possible within the budget of around 1000.

Thank you in advance for your knowledge and assistance in this!

    Melee Crab?

Good build. I have a "tank crab" that is similar. The dual leadership and other defense pool powers, plus provoke, make it a very good tank.

And, remember, VEATS and EATS can cap resists at 85%. Brutes and Tanks are 90%, but scrappers and alllll the other ATs are 75%.
  5. Shield Defense and Super Reflexes are both good for lower level content. As for the secondaries, MA, StJ, KM are all nice.
  6. Now, you know better than this....

Farms are evil. UNLESS they are created by Devs.

    So, DFB = okay.
  7. 19 50s... I have, right now, 19 50s.

There are purple sets on... 5 of them (3 of those have 1 each, the Warshade has 2 from the purple pets set and then a set of Absolute Amazement, and my "farmer" fire/elec tank has all the bells and whistles, and he's just for farming). PvP IOs on 2.

My "main", my first 50 ever, is an old issue 1 Invul/Energy tank with not a single purple or PvP IO on him at all, and he can wade through all of the content of the game, exemped or not, with no trouble. My LAST 50, an elec/elec brute, also has no purples or PvP IOs and he routinely tanks incarnate trials. Hell, on a whim he soloed the lab during a Lambda.

The "either you have a build or you suck" is categorically untrue. I have a SS/SR 50 brute that is capped on all defenses with SOs, and he hits HARD. I did use Mids on some of my builds to know how best to proceed, but with so many 50s, there is NO way I could (or would) try to outfit them all with the extremely expensive sets. Besides, purple sets aren't any good at defense. You get nice recharge and some fire resists, and some immob resists... Nothing else to help you survive the game.

I don't care how hard you can hit, if you fold the first time YOU get hit.
  8. Except, as near as I can tell, it is a teleport FROM Peregrine Island TO the other maps (you show up in the train station), but there is no way that I can use the same system to get BACK to Peregrine.
  9. I had 28 tokens, then I bought enough points to get 3 more (31 total) and this account was opened on the 12th, but the billing cycle is set on the 19th...

So, the 20th and still no token for this month.

    What gives?

    Best DPS on ST?

So you can, and I just did!

    Best DPS on ST?

You can put the Achillies proc in rib cracker? Doesn't say so in Mids...
  12. I thought of that, so, instead, I went with Black Scorpion... Easier set of stories and gets me back to rogue then hero faster...

I am the Diet Safeway Cola of evil...

But, I brutalized and demoralized Blast Furnace and clubbed Overdrive not once, but twice...

Now, to get the attention of Scirocco...
  14. I have this Street Justice/Electrical Armor Brute that I started hero-side the MINUTE Street Justice was available. The ONE thing I wanted was Mu Mastery (Electrical Fences and Ball Lightning are thematic as well as useful), but I knew that would mean something I've never done before.

I've gone Hero to Vigilante before, and Villain to Rogue as well...

But, I've never done the whole Hero ALL the WAY to Villain.

So far, the vigilante missions going towards villain have been just friggin EVIL!

I've killed more "villains" or "retired" more heroes in these 10 tips than I ever did going from hero to vigilante, or hell, doing Dr. Graves' arcs when already a villain.

I am getting ready to log on and do the final mission to become a villain...

What on earth am I going to have to do?

From a role playing standpoint, I know WHY I am on a villainous path right now.

But, once I have the option for Mu Mastery, will I have the sufficient power to seek redemption?

I actually dread this morality mission...

    Now...C'MERE! *sounds of carnage*
OMG! I was reading that the other day... That also had the one hipster guy who kept asking for the game to be released on a Mac.

    How eerie! :-)
  16. If you want to be the same, but different, then go Crab, Bane, Widow, Fort.
    AoE, ST, ST/AoE, ST/AoE
The crab might need to take pool concealment, but you could stealth everything or steamroll it.
The -res from the venom grenade and artic breath PLUS the melting effect from Bile Spray from the crab alone and all the secondary toxic from the bane and the widow (since toxic is a rarely resisted damage)... You would drop folks in their tracks before they knew Arachnos was in the hizzy.
  17. I don't rate farms. I rate story arcs.

Farms are a means to an end. Story content can be delightful, self-contained jaunts through someone's imagination.

Story content is just as good as the work, dedication and ability of the person who wrote it.

Farms are designed for a specific function and are, therefore, unsually unoriginal and goal oriented.

In short, story arcs are a process, and farms are a tool.

So, don't be a tool, just use one.

  19. StJ/Elec is a beast. Only hole in the resist is toxic, and with all the pool power defense stuff (weave, combat jumping, maneuvers) and the right IOs, you can softcap S/L and get close on energy.

This will be an incarnate monster.
  20. Street Justice has a non-directional combo system and so, it should be easier.
  21. ::coughcoughFlambeauxcoughcough::

SHE goes villain to satisfy her inner narcissist...
  22. mmmm, the delicious, delicious Street Justice... How sweet it is!
  23. Still says it is unavailable.

Okay, see, I had been reading this yesterday evening. And, THEN, this morning I clicked the "last" button. So, if I MISSED the answer, it wasn't intentional. I can read... even in English, honest!
  25. In the character creator, but no "SKU" whatever the heck THAT is...
