  1. Yes, as long as you're subscribed--no matter when you subscribe--you're a VIP player. Even if you were to start playing City of Heroes Freedom well after Freedom launches and you decide you'd like to upgrade to VIP status, once you become a VIP you can join the VIP server if you choose.

Depending on your veteran status you may still have access to these ATs if you become a Premium player.

    Please with a comment here...?
Content-wise, there's no difference between the new VIP server and the existing servers. What will be new and "all kinds of fun" is that people who choose to migrate over to the VIP server will be experiencing a fresh start--though the community will be made up of VIP players, players will be entering a server that doesn't yet have its own identity outside of "VIP only."

To confirm what's been said, there is no difference in content between the VIP server and the current servers. The VIP server is simply a place where only VIP players have access to if they so choose.
  8. Congrats on six years, Silver Gale, and congrats on finding that special someone through the game! I am continually awed at stories like this one.

  11. Gamasutra chatted with lead systems designer Matt "Positron" Miller and lead producer Nate "Second Measure" Birkholz in a recap of City of Heroes' seven years of filling the MMO space with the best super-powered massively multiplayer game out there.

From the earliest days when Positron used to write the XP tables himself, to today with the Incarnate endgame, read the Gamasutra interview, "After Seven Years, City Of Heroes Still Flies," for a great look at the ideas and design behind seven years of content.

  18. Gorgeous work. The detailing on the pistols themselves is staggering, but the engineering that went into the bird blows my mind.

Must not really be wanting to sell many of these at 50% off.

Whoops. Alright, so hopefully this post will point people here.
  20. This week in our ongoing Seven Years of Super Sale, character transfers are half-off in the in-game store! If you're looking to move some characters from one server to another--especially now that the server list has merged!--now's a great time to do it at a discounted price! The sale will run from now until May 31, 11:59 p.m. Eastern (8:59 p.m. Pacific / June 1 4:59 a.m. British / 5:59 a.m. Central European).

Please note that there are some servers that currently do not display in the list when purchasing a transfer; we are aware of the issue and are working on a fix. In the meantime, you can work around this issue by sorting the list from A to Z or the other way around, to see the missing servers!

  22. Ask questions. That's the best advice I can give to new players. We have a great, helpful community here, and asking questions will always net you an answer. Don't be afraid to ask for help in game or on the boards if you don't know something; there's no stigma in not knowing all of the mechanics right off the bat.
  23. I'm not a developer, but as a member of the Community Team and thus also having to give out vague answers, (you're all familiar with Soon™) I try to give leeway wherever I can, including matters unrelated to the game. Allowing for a little wiggle room is important in some cases--maybe I won't make it to the water slides at 11 a.m. Maybe I'll be there "Around noon," which gives some forward and backward space. From there I can narrow it down the closer I get to the water park.

This. It's one of the biggest points of contention I have with the majority of 'cape' comics, where events will be made out of a character's death only to have them come back months later. It cheapens any emotional response given to said death, especially when a character has died two, three, a dozen times only to mysteriously "get better."

Of course there's the reasoning that killing off these characters for good means that they can no longer be profited from, which is why everyone from icons to sidekicks to random mooks get brought back. They're killed, resulting in a spike in sales, they're left alone for awhile...then they get brought back, which brings in more sales. It's understandable from this point. From a storytelling point, it's a gigantic joke. Any time a character dies and is brought back through whatever means, be it magic, time travel, the favor of a cosmic being, etc., more often than not it prevents the story from going anywhere meaningful. There's simply no consequence. If you were a hero in one of these universes, you wouldn't even mourn the loss of fallen comrades, because in three months they'd be hanging around again.
  25. Looking to pick up City of Heroes and Going Rogue in one pack? How about one pack on sale for half-price?
