/em sigh... I really worked hard on my own thread... over 600 views but only generated enough interest for 19 posts, most of which are mine and leo g's...
Anyway though, my own proposal for such alternate power selections would be for weapon sets, such as claws, katana, ninja blade, DB, etc. etc., that would use the same animations, but have secondary damage types, such as fire, cold, negative, etc. etc. and different secondary effects. (Like -def becoming -dam with toxic secondary damage)
So basically, allowing for elemental weapons. -

Quote:well, part of this stems from the fact that a quite a few of the old missions and story arcs were given out by multiple and (supposedly) very different contents, so briefing dialogue was kept fairly generic.Seconded. For kicks, I played a Praetorian arc which is full of interesting dialogue from the contact. Then I played an old blue-side arc which contained inspiring briefings such as "I hear Lt. Ramerez is a tough customer. Be careful." The difference is a bit... jarring to put it lightly. Just going back and improving the old contact's dialogue and giving them more life would be awesome.
It's possible it was to create a small sense of generic-adventuring so as not to make any assumptions about you/your character's personality.
Later they attempted to make assumptions about your character's personality in City of Villains, and seemed to have characterized your villain as someone who acts big and tough until Arachnos steps into the picture. At least until the final missions in Granville where -SPOILER!-
By issue seventeen, they did more flavor text that gave broad, but usually generous assumptions about your character.
And finally, with issue eighteen, they don't have to exactly make assumptions, we have choices and branching dialogues. -
Quote:basically this.To a point, yes.
On the one hand, I did not (and still don't) like some of what happened to the hollows. Too *much* was introduced there. "Defeat 10 Trolls/Defeat 10 outcasts" used to be fairly fast. Now you have to go farther out to find the groups (and find enough of them for the defeats.) On the other hand, mission placement is (generally) better, and the hospital and trainer are definite improvements.
I'd argue, however, that "revamping old" does NOT automatically mean "less new." Heroside, there are heavily underutilized zones that are perfectly fine, design-wise, but absolutely barren content wise - even though they certainly have stories behind them. Dark Astoria's the poster child for this, and I've proposed content additons for Crey's Folly recently as well (and Boomtown farther back.) All of that content would be new - in an old zone.
They're like a notebook with nothing written in them, maybe the first page used. Revamping would be filling in more pages.
Villainside... villainside needs more new. Somewhere ELSE to go (and I don't mean Praetoria) besides Mercy with Kalinda/Burke. You CAN shoehorn it in there, but part of why i don't tend to make new villains (and level existing ones slowly) is the same-old Trash Deco, grey-on-grime look which just gets depressing to play in. Heroside has multiple paths to go through. Villainside is the same-old, same-old.
Everything else? Do it on a case-by-case basis. I generally like Synapse, for instance, but others complain about it. The Shard TFs need work. I'd love to see the Hollows trial tweaked slightly so it doesn't need to keep 8 people through the whole thing (a team of 4 would be ideal - I've seen more of these fail from just one person dropping than anything, percentage-wise.) Minor tweaks can be done (with maintaining story coherencey and flow) I'd think without having a big impact on new content. Major tweaks would have to come more slowly.
Though I think the synapse TF needs a least a bit of a rewrite to fit in with what they've done with the Clockwork King since Faultline's update as well as the new Posi.
As another note: revamped old content, using the new technology we have now, is effectively new content in a lot of ways.
So yes, I wouldn't mind losing out on new content (for blueside) for about a year, even two, if it meant the old stuff got fixed up. Besides, there's a lot of TFs and trials my 4 year old, level 50 has yet to do. -

Quote:I'd say it's a mix of the two.In a similar vein I'm curious of your opinion of Ice tankers when facing quartz eminators. I can't think of another situation where a tanker is so completely shut down from performing their duties than here, while Ice does retain some mitigation in the form of Chilling Embrace's -dmg and Hoarfrost's +hp and heal (and its 20% toxic res is noteworthy when facing DE) for the most part quartzes appear to hit this powerset much harder than could be justified. And its something any potential SR tanker would be forced to face as well.
Are quartzes too poweful an effect or are they indicative of weaknesses in powerset design?
When a Sentry/Granite or Quartz lay down their emitters, the buff numbers to their allies seem unreal.
Cairns seem to send their resistances into near cap range and quartz seem to make attacks auto-hit.
But I also know that Ice Armor is an old set, and I believe the old power-set design philosophy was to discourage soloing by leaving holes that could sometimes seem gaping in sets, though in recent times, these holes might not seem as large thanks to IO sets, though the resistance bonus gap compared to defense bonuses leave defense reliant toons with only the option (once soft-capped) to go for recharge buffs and try to kill things quickly before someone rolls a good number. -
The problem with that, Hassenpheffer is that by giving up and remaining quiet until something comes, the devs may continue to overlook bases as "not worth the time", and it becomes a self-destructive cycle.
My suggestion to the committee, once it's formed, is to scour across the City of Community playerbase and rally the troops, basically, we don't need to petition, but we need to let the Devs know that base building CAN be a profitable investment.
now I'm not saying to go all crazy, but still, just something, so that maybe if we all shout out as one, the Olympians might hear us. -
While understandable, it's very sad that this is the general consensus: An utter loss of all faith in the development community in the base building forum that even extends to these players views of the game itself.
I will try to keep hope that something will come for bases some day.
That perhaps something for them may even come out from the dark hush of issue 20.
But in the end, I must admit my own spirit feels dampened too by the sobering, simple facts that beyond the addition of the oroboros pillars, grandville beacon, and change to the beaker racks, and SG emblem visbility, bases have not seen any item additions to it in nearly 13 issues now...
good luck and godspeed to this committee, in the end, you may be our last hope. -

Quote:technically, that would have been the option: "continue fighting for justice outside the law" assuming you mean "I don't care" as in you keep on doing it.That was my point. I was the one that didn't answer #9 because I didn't care what people think of me.
The other "I don't care" would have been revealing your identity and keep going anyway.
The third "I don't care" would have been retiring.
You have three "I don't care" options, really. -

oh crap... this was safe, right?
Marcian, please tell me you didn't just link me to a site with mal and adware seeds... -
Hey, I hate Requiem as much as the next hero or villain, but give him a break it's not his fault the game story writers were inconsistent and flip flopped all over the place with his story.
And personally, I like Reichsman less just because Emperor Cole makes a better Evil Cole, and has a better fashion sense.*
*That last one was purely subjective...
And besides, Reichsman is the leader of Axis America/Nazi-world, why would he be interested the failing Fifth Column or Council? -
As far as the multiple dancing swords go, and if it also becomes a player available temp power, then I will say this much:
I am the bone of my sword
Steel is my body and fire is my blood
I have created over a thousand blades
Unknock to death
Nor known to life
Have withstood pain to create many weapons
Yet these hands will never hold anything
So as I pray; UNLIMITED BLADE WORKS

In response to Aracanaville, I still would like to propose that perhaps the passives maybe have reduced scaling resistance, but a higher base resistance.
This CAN work out conceptually since one of the ideas of dodging is that even a connecting hit won't land solidly on you, instead a fatal hit becomes a glancing blow.
But then I'm sure both you, and the devs have considered this and it wouldn't be nearly so easy. -
Quote:While he does kind of make me wanna sing "The Candy Man Can" (The Marcus Cole Can? Next Steelclaw Parody?), I do like that they went the route of that look instead of the typical "Puttin' on the Reich" sort of thing you'd normally see such fictional tyrants wear, as well as avoiding making his armor with "Spikes of villainy"Anything Emperor Cole has.

Seriously, whoever made his costume. Good job. -
I can get behind this.
Techbot, I am disappoint. No offense, I'd like to see the Shard fixed up too, but it doesn't have to be co-op, and I LIKE co-op zones! But the Shadow Shard, as it is has places we've NEVER SEEN in-game yet, like the Garden of Memories ruled by Uuralur the Mirror, the Cube Factories, etc.
Plus, while I'm normally against more Arachnos stuff, I think it'd be cooler for villains to enter the Shadow Shard on the back of a MASSIVE Arachnos Space-Carrier-esque (Especially if it's firing broadside energy cannons at attacking flying Rularuu soldiers) thing instead of the plain old Firebase Zulu.
And for my own stuff: I know i'd like to see more places beyond paragon and the Rogue Isles, I even had this huge idea for three zones that made up something I called "Emiya, Japan" with unique villain groups and everything. -
Quote:But that doesn't make it any less of a problem. I mean the question comes up: "Why play X when I can play Y?"The devs said that the big majority of side switching in the first month of GR was red to blue, rather than blue to red - so it seems it's not just the devs who hate Villains
Story interest balance is as important as game play balance. -
Quote:Well, fun as the ITF is, like the Reichs TF and SF, as Samuel Tow and a few other lore buffs point out the whole damn thing's a lore related nightmare. If they were going to try and make the 5th Column and the Council more distinctive from each other, then I think the Nictus should only be with the 5th Column, mostly because of the ITF.
And personally, I think the 5th column should get a bit of a revamp if only because THEY'RE the ones re-surging, and it makes little sense that they're so successful when they're using the SAME tactics and weapons they had when the Council took them over before. -
Quote:It's not a bad idea, but it might cause a few problems at the lower levels, and switching evasion could cause some problems though.I do agree that SR could use some loving, how much is the million dollar question.
As someone mentioned, switching evasion around to have it available sooner would be a great, hell, I actually prefer the OP's suggestion in making each toggle carry some slack for all of the positions.
and personally, I'm probably counted out for my opinions about how much love SR should get.
I have five characters that use it, so my suggestions would generally be: "make SR super god-mode!"
Cottage rule: the other powers would need to be able to provide some level of defense. So, sadly this isn't likely, though there's a level of probability to it. -
Quote:Wouldn't happen. Sky Raiders [SPOILER] are actually a subsidiary of Nemesis and with or without Nemesis, the Sky Raiders have a big hate-on for Council and the Center.I would love to see a Council / Sky Raiders merger to team up against the 5th Column, perhaps with one zone dedicated to be a major battleground for the duration of the story in game time.
A 5th/Raider team up might be possible, but only begrudgingly. -

Quote:Hmmm... Well, one proposition might: would it be possible to basically make a contest for players to redesign some of the enemy critters with the current costume editor, and then perhaps the art department can look the models over and maybe modify them to be unique to the NPCs. (I.E. Adding gang back emblems, larger pants pockets, etc. etc.)With all the time in the world, that would be awesome, but redo-ing all the costume work for whole villain groups isn't feasible. That said, I imagine we would add some shader improvements to anything we do touch.
Though, I can understand why this wouldn't be a possibility, as the inspiration for this suggestion is based off of what Valve tends to do. (and Valve devs are kind of trolls in their own right...)
anyway though, this also gets off the topic, so I apologize for that.
I'd contribute something to get back onto the topic but I've made my own requests and can only thank you for your time and considerations to myself and the community. -
Quote:Well, I'm not missing the skull masks too much. The only thing is just that the skull masks, while kind of old looking and, no offense, but bad (compared to the magic booster one) is that those skull masks are proportioned like part of a human skull, whereas the magic booster's skull mask much have come from... Something else or someone with a horrible dental record.Couple of considerations to keep in mind as you make your suggestions: we'd probably choose not to make a player version of an NPC costume part if it a) doesn't fit on the existing character rigs/work well with other parts, or if it's b) very, very signature and intimately tied to the group or character's look (like Maelstrom's 'heart' for example, which really should remain unique), or c), if it creates an opportunity for confusion and/or griefing (i.e. if by using the costume part, you could look EXACTLY like an enemy and therefore confuse other players).
Skull and Carnival masks are in the gray area for me, but most other parts are fair game for discussion.
I like the idea below about updating older factions and giving us those costume parts too, if feasible and practical as, as the poster says, kills two birds with one stone. (I mean, the girlfriend from hell REALLY sticks out among other hellions. And it's not just her orange skin, bat wings, and two X Chromosomes).
And I suppose this means Rikti pieces are also kind of ruled out. (At least without some extensive remodeling)
