Randomly, if Galaxy city is the one to get destroyed and rebuilt, I feel it needs a Googie aesthetic to its rebuilt buildings.
If it's Atlas that gets trashed and rebuilt, I think all of the Walls in Atlas Plaza need to be turned into Memorial walls similar to the ones used for the Vietnam Memorial it would have the wonderful function of giving the sense that countless people have given their lives in service to paragon, meta-human and normals alike, but in the end, everyone's suffered, everyone's fought, and everyone's made the ultimate sacrifice, and it could just be a matter of time before your name ends up there too.
Bonus points if the Devs actually put in the effort to have the walls be readable to give a REALLY sobering look at Paragon's history. -
Quote:Indeed, it's a bit of a major problem how the game's timeline continues to move forward without looking back and considering what's already passed while what's already passed is actually tied by rope at the Advancement's waist and still being dragged along, groaning in miserable pain, looking worse and worse as its cut up, beaten, dragged, and bloodied.Of course it doesn't stick. As it stands now, CoH's maps are tied to the level progression.
Those zones being destroyed aren't untill after you would normally be out of those zones, going to bigger threats.
KR is destroyed in Apex...when you're level 50! KR is what you see when you are level 8ish, before you get to level 50 and then see it destroyed.
What would the point be of seeing KR destroyed in Apex, if it was destroyed when you first saw it at lvl 8?
Okay, I understand it would be a lot of work to attempt to revoke the godhood of Status Que that surpasses the Well of Furies after this game's been baked into it for so many years and we've come to accept the idea of the Time Scale being in relation to our characters' levels.
but the problem with that latter part is that with recent patches, the time scale's been jumping around like a Schizophrenic cat with ADHD with newer stuff being crammed into the level 20-29 pocket, and for heroes it gets worse when you through in the Midnighter arcs and such.
I roll a new toon, it's 2004 for me, they play the midnighter arc at level ten and oooooooops I just got kicked ahead to 2007 or so, afterwards I'm back to 2004, I play Keith Nance's or Roy Coolings arc and ooooooooooooops I'm in 2010, finish those, back in 2004, go to steel canyon after having run some arc that had been taken over by the Council putting me at 2005 or so and ooooooooooops I'm in 2009 because I'M STARING AT THE FIFTH COLUMN RUNNING AROUND RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. -
I couldn't help but notice your young protege spent a lot of time staring at your thighs, GG, among the times being when he got knocked out.
Maybe you outta consider hose or switching to pants. (Golden Pants?) -
Quote:You know, golden girl, I'm actually interested to hear how you feel on this. especially the fact that the Well is being established as not nice in the least and your characters is being forced to play dance monkey for it.There's quite a bit of that going on with the complaints about the Incarnate sytem
How do you feel about Golden You and the Incarnate system and its story line.
Also, for those who wanted a video, here it is

Quote:From an RP standpoint the Well storyline can be just as ignored as the Origin of Powers or the Dr Brainstorm stuff (which...I think 90% of RPers actually do).
Unfortunately the Devs seem to really want to go out of their way to shove it down our throats and making it as hard as possible to simply shove aside.Quote:You didn't have to do the arc anyway, if you didn't want to. If you want to progress in the Incarnate storyline though, you must do Ramiel's arc, which ties you to the Well. If you want more powers, you must take them from the Well. Why can't my Judgement slot look like a Footstomp? Because the Well says so. Why can't I have a pet that isn't Praetorian? Because the Well won't give me one.
I should not have to ignore every new development in the game in order to keep playing. Game lore should be written so as to encourage people to want to incorporate it into their personal lore, not to force increasingly convoluted mental gymnastics to explain how it isn't relevant to you.
Quote:Quote:No I didn't. See, I thought I was badass because I'd learned how to dodge that Rikti sword before it took my head off. I thought I was powerful because I had learned how to channel the forces of nature to obey my whim. I thought I was smart because I built a better suit of power armor. But nope, I was wrong. I wasn't badass or powerful or smart after all. The Well just deigned to share some of its all-prevading awesomeness with me.
The well didn't teach you how to do any of that. The well gave you the potential to do all that.
Mind you, that's if you go by the Well and not, as Mechano said, ignore the game canon, you as an RPer (or just a concept builder if not an RPer) choose.
Now as an RPer, I will say that working around newer lore is getting harder and harder, and when you RP in group, everyone's different readings/interpretations can collide very easily.
though I did manage to succeed in working around the Mender Ramiel arc in way (for demonstration) as follows:
My main katana scrapper reincarnates, and his earliest recalled life was Oranbega, so he's got a lot of lives to cover. The entire arc is 'playing through hie memories' ala the animus in Assassin's Creed to learn from his past lives.
First mission (where the Storm's broken over Ouroboros) was played out as his witnessing of the Mu Oranbegan war at its peek. (The twist being Mender Ramiel was played as his dying past incarnation, having lost everything in a war wrought by jealous gods and swearing revenge)
Second mission was a later life as an Indian soldier who's wife had been taken by a demon (Trapdoor) and he journeyed into hell itself to rescue her. Only to find out that his long tours as a soldier meant his wife had become lonely and felt neglected, and both her and the demon were mutually in love. (cue BSOD for that life)
Third mission was his life as a soldier Serving Alexander the Great, he was separated from his unit by a sandstorm during the Persian campaign and found himself in ancient Persian ruins fighting 'Sand Demons', at the end, he subdued a hammy Janni (Honoree) and became its master for that life.
Forth and final mission was played a Tibetan monk who had gone on a spirit quest to defeat a demon who had been haunting him, the cavern of the Well became the demon's lair, and the time echos worked perfectly since the demon was Drug (A Persian demoness of Lies and Deceptions, in this case, illusions too), and sadly, when he finally confronted the demon, he lost, but was able to foresee her inevitable defeat. -
Quote:Also, let's get something clear here: What is an alien? they're outsiders, beings not entirely well understood.I'd say this thread would be better off in the Comic Book section of the forums.
That said...well, if people thought Spidey was better off with Organic Web Shooters to be more believable, I see no reason why they couldnt get behind Thor being an alien.
And who knows, they could just as easily say they're aliens who were looked upon as gods by the Norse.
And what are gods? Often enough, they're the same things, just they tend to be powerful compared to us, and even less understandable (God, why did you ruin Job's life just to make a point to Satan?).
this was actually a bit og an interesting point my aunt brought up to me (we're both occult and mysticism enthusiasts) when dicussing the source of Yuri Geller's 'powers'. -
Quote:And the real irony is that they weren't being hyped until AFTER Jack Emmert was gone. Or IS he?First we are introduced to his ancient times version, then to his Nazi version to the now uber-Incarnate level Praetorian version. He crops up everywhere and he's always the best of the best, miles better than any player.
Over the last couple of years everything has begun to revolve around Marcus Cole and the Praetorian Invasion angle is just the pinnacle of that. All the buildup has been to show how awesome Marcus Cole is. -

Medieval costume pieces, Middle Eastern styles (which have not been touched on at all), Romani/Romano styles, more military styles, more Asian styles, martial arts booster that isn't a love letter to Mortal Kombat, more Trench coats, more wings/back options, more hats, more tattoo pattern options, etc. etc.
-
Quote:Well, depending on who you want to believe, supposedly Sexy Jay's dropped hints about Medieval armor styles.Well, here we are closing in on a year from when the thread started. No news yet?
I would love to see a booster pack series dedicated to Medieval armors, period dresses, etc. etc. They could call it: Heroes of the Old World: [Insert related location here, I.E. Sun and Sands for North African and Middle Eastern themed pieces] -
You know what else would be not only be something that would be epic as well as even workable into the current Well of furies lore?
Mesopotamian Mythology, specifically The King of Heroes: Gilgamesh
I could even see it now: The whole 'Two Thirds God' thing was because Gilgamesh was already a demi-god who gained the notice of the Well of Furies, and Gilgamesh basically became the original Incarnate.
Hell, he's even got parallels to Marcus Cole, only instead of hiding behind the walls of his city from his Hamidon (Humbaba), he goes out and kills it with his best friend, just because.
To add a bit of twist, the Well withdrew its support from him because despite Gilgamesh probably having drunk directly from the Well, he still was able to shrug off any and all attempts of the Well of Furies to control him. -
Quote:True, but I'm not sure the Tsoo would be the greatest of guides into hmong culture when they run around with Japanese swords, use Chinese sai, and have very strongly Japanese (at least to my knowledge) tattoo artwork, wear Japanese Han'nya masks, and have a boss in Radios/newspapers named 'Katana'.heck, i know nothing of hmong culture, but id love to see the tsoo fleshed out
I recall running a tip mission with a friend of mine where every time they referred to themselves, they called themselves 'The Hmong Tsoo' as though after years of not remembering they were Vietnamese, they now remembered and hooked 'Hmong' onto their group name as a reminder of what their actual ethnicity was. -
Of all the real world mythologies emphasized in City of lore, GrecoRoman comes up again and again and again and again, almost to the point where it seems to have been the only mythology that actually really existed.
The break from this is in Croatoa, which, while it feels like a non-sequitur (and honestly, it kind of is) it is a breath of fresh air from other mythological references in the game that are all GrecoRoman centered.
Now seems like it would be an especially good time to look into other mythologies, especially the Nordic myths (I mean, come on, Valhalla anyone? And you think Odin will care about your alignment as long as you even say you'll be willing to help fight in Ragnarok?) with the whole Incarnate business going about.
So this thread's kind of about two things: what other mythologies would you like to see City of delve into, and do you think the devs would seriously do it?
(Also, family friendliness is clearly not an issue given that the main mythology emphasized is wonderfully loaded with... uhh... Jerks to say the least) -
Quote:I know you meant at least most of these as a joke, but these are actually pretty good.Giant Monster Suggestions:
* Atlas Park... An evil and/or insane Stone/stone Dominator appears and animates the Atlas Statue. The Dominator phases and jumps inside the globe. He constantly repairs the main body of the statue (who only attacks by stomping and kicking). Attacking the body is an option but it is also ultimately useless. To win the battle you have to break through the globe shell and enter it to fight the Dominator within. Can make this an instanced map to avoid shell-shocking the newbs wandering around Atlas.
* Pocket D... John the Troll has taken some experimental Superadyne which had the odd dual effect of making him grow to 20' tall and imbued him with electrical powers. What makes it worse is John was all set to go dancing and is lookin' spiffy in his White Liesure Suit. Okay... get ready for it... Troll + John + White Leisure Suit + Electrical Powers... that's right... you'll be fighting John Troll-Volta!
(As a brief aside on that last one... if you've recovered enough from the pun-induced stomach cramps to read this... I used ol' John in a D&D campaign I was DMing once... as I recall I was chased from the room with people throwing dice at my head.)
* Cap Au Diable... The candy factory has had one of its recent confectionary experiments go awry! As you approach the lot behind the factory you will see a giant man apparently composed entirely of a jelly-like sugary material. He has strong resistance to smashing (due to his rubbery exterior) but is vulnerable to fire attacks. You defeat him and think it's over with but it's not! He begins to change shape into a horrible half-man, half-bear form! Oh no! Your worst fears are realized! It's a Gummy Were-Bear!
* Don't Care Where... Don't Care How... but they have GOT to have either five robots or five statues get together to form a giant statue-bot. There HAS to be a long cut scene showing the forming of the final monster. And there HAS to be a moment where the last one to join says "And I'll form the head!" ... make it so...
Some of my own suggestions for some new GMs include...
Nerva Archipelago - The Longbow Carrier (I'm not sure if this is possible by present coding abilities), a specially rigged cargo ship with a rather nasty cargo of automated Longbow chasers that will spawn from the ship to attack in addition to its existing anti-personal implements. You will need to destroy this monster of a ship in chunks.
Peregrine Island - Arachnos Assault Sub (an enlarged standard sub model with the ballistic missile pods), appearing not far from the northern islands of Peregrine, this specially designed Arachnos Assault sub threatens heroes anywhere in Paragon with a compliment of tactical nuclear missile batteries (Warburg nuclear warhead on a LONG recharge) and attacking the sub itself will only delay it, and Arachnos engineers will climb out from the inside to repair it regularly, the only sure way to defeat this is to go inside, fight the crew, and sink the sub with a bomb.
Okay, these are more like zone events but still... -
I just realized something that would make Praetorian Lore pets perfectly acceptable to me: If one of the options was summoning Battle Maiden's Dancing Swords from the Apex TF.
-
My VERY first character was actually on a friend's account before I joined the game: A kat/SR scrapper named "Ronin Blair" a terrible terrible character concept: He was an anime fan who fried his brains on watching too many anime one night and came to believe he was a shonen hero.

yep, I do. I also notice that it's actually kind of cute.

Quote:Blame Tycho (Warning: NWSF language is used in the comic.)
Maybe it's not our Manticore or our Wyvern, but maybe it is. -
Quote:Well, in the Fate/Stay Night and Nasuverse (look it up and try not to tear out your hair in frustration), machines can be summoned as heroic spirits and I think it was mentioned that it's all about Akashic concepts. And how does a robot have an "essence?" These are programmed robots, not sentient AIs.
Basically your 'data' that is recorded in creation itself.
Someone promptly made the joke of accidentally summoning the First Printing Press as their 'champion' for the Grail War. -
Admittedly, Heroes aren't the only ones becoming Incarnate. Technically, due to how many recent content pieces seem to be about villains gaining/seeking the power of the incarnates, it would (be unbalanced but) make a lot of sense if Villains ended up with theirs a lot earlier on.
Though, hey, it is only a project essence of a seer and not a real one. I'll admit, there's a lot of ways you could try to play this, but for me, as an RPer with good imagination who's even been able to side step my characters actually BEING incarnates (merely becoming more awesome), I'm pretty sure I could come up with some clever explanation or get one from a friend. (Hell, my RP group was able to help me justify my Cold War era robot having willpower*)
But the Praetoria and Cole w#$k fest leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth, almost as though Jack Emmert's gotten back into the lead dev seat again and wants to cram down out throats how amazing Alternate Statesmans are and the stuff they have at their disposal.
*As they put it: "They have willpower as a completely implacable robot, completely unfeeling to the meager assaults of mere bullets and blades" -
Quote:God, I LOVE that comic. It's mindless propaganda in the truest sense (at least by making Stalin into some kind of super hero, though he does have a great cape), but it is AWESOME propaganda. Now if Cole used Soviet Russian propaganda, I might actually support him.Well, now that I can actually see your pic, I agree: THIS!
Colonel Karl Kroenen, or something a lot like him, would really bring the 5th Column into a whole new level of awesome, in a way that Nazi M. Bison never really could.
Really, one need look no further than the Stalin vs. Hitler comic to see how well Nazi, black magic, super soldiers and nuclear weapons go together
Quote:Frankly I never did like to see werewolves and robots mixed, it was just too contrasting for me.
Stormy
Not just in comic books and pulp stories, but the Nazis had attempted these things in real life. Nazi super-tech is drawn from the wunderwaffen projects while the mystic aspects (such as werewolves and vampires) draw inspiration from Nazi Occultism (Which I should note is only fringingly associated with the Thule Society*). Learning about how the Nazis delved into this probably freaked out a lot of people who learned of it, it revealed a new level of insanity some of the inner circle/higher ups had, but deep down, there was always the fear 'What if something of theirs worked?', and thus, the modern pop cultural belief was born that nazis had genetic experimentation, magic, and robots. Some stories favor one aspect over the other, but all three we experimented. (And thankfully, to our knowledge, only the wunderwaffen yielded anything, and all of it came as too little, too late.)
*Given how, historically, Nazis ended up dissolving the Thule Society and attempted to wipe it out in the Night of Long Knives, I've always thought they would have made a GREAT replacement for the Midnighters Redside. They would have still sent you to fight the Column in Cimerora, not to protect the time stream so much as just for revenge against past humiliation. -
Quote:That is also quite a bit pretentious...That is quite a bit pretentious... sigh.
Be happy you have bug hunter and I don't considering all the bugs I've found. :<
Thankfully, the cycle of pretentiousness can stop with me since I have no reason to be pretentious.
but I just was pretentious wasn't I?
OH SHI-

Quote:Chillax, man.1. Stop talking about April Fools so that some people actually get fooled.
2. While an April Fool prank is being perpetrated, don't post cloyingly obvious things like, "I wonder what date it is today? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm?"
I swear, the last few April Fools stunts by our Devs were exhaustingly anti-climactic with all the pre-April Fools 'wondering' and all the April Fools Day painfully self-referential 'but I'm not fooled' posts.
People don't know how let a good joke be pulled off anymore without spoiling it. -
Quote:Another, and very cool part, about this idea would be that while you might not be able to customize your pet, it could also become said that Lore wouldn't exactly represent an incarnate power (being acknowledge by the Well) but the rest of the world starting to acknowledge YOU.... Ditch that and make them an actual ally, or a defeated enemy that has been convinced, coerced, bribed or intimidated into working for you. ...
Malta gunslingers hear about some of your escapades and for the first time in their lives think twice about their career path, throw off their M1 helms/cowboy hats and decide 'I'm siding with a winner', the Tsoo has watched you progress and see your new level of power and begin flocking to you as a deific champion, or Longbow/Arachnos agents abandon the sides of their COs, feeling safer and stronger at yours.
I guess somewhere in my mind, it's pie-in-sky, but Lore seems like it should be more like this.
Edit: oops, wrong thread
