  1. Close enough, well done OniElem! Your title is set and all I need is for you to PM me what costume code you would like as your 2nd prize.

    Here's the original picture:

  2. And this is now resolved! Thank you for your patience while we were investigating this issue.

It appears our North American data centre is experiencing network issues affecting access to our West Coast servers as well as access to the In Game Store, the Auction House as well as Mission Architect.

We are looking into it and hope to have it resolved as quickly as possible.

We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience with this temporary unavailability of our services.
  3. Updated the announcement to advise that players affected by this issue should contact our Customer Support team for reimbursement.

Thank you all for your patience with this matter, we appreciate that this should have been communicated earlier and apologise for the inconvenience this has caused some of you.
  4. Screenshot the Spot!

How well do you know your City of Heroes/Villains locations?

Hello, hello and welcome to the Screenshot the Spot forum game where every Wednesday until 4pm Pacific Time (7:00 PM Eastern Time / 12:00 PM GMT / 1:00 Central European Time) you can win your choice of a costume code from past Con seasons and the Forum Title "Screenshot Spotter [date]".

The object of this game is to be the first to 1). Figure out the location in-game depicted in the screenshot and 2). Post a screenshot that is closest to the one I have posted , with your own character in the place of the character present in the screenshot. Sounds easy right? Well there's a catch. The location isn't going to be as obvious as you might think so make sure you pay close attention to the picture details and hints.

The Pictures will start out masked and more and more of the image will be revealed as time goes on as long as no one has correctly identified the location by posting their own screenshot. If by the end of the day no one has identified the location, the full picture will be revealed and no one will win for that week (BOOOOOOO!).

    Rules:

    1. Your post must contain a screenshot of the location depicted in the initial contest post, but with your character in the place of the character present in the screenshot.

    2. Screenshots must remain less than 800px X 500px to qualify.

    3. UI needs to be turned off (Menu -> Options -> Keymapping -> scroll to bottom under other "Toggle Screenshot UI")

    4. Reply in the official City of Heroes® forum (http://boards.cityofheroes.com/) thread created for each weekly “Screenshot The Spot” Contest with your screenshot submission.

    5. Your reply must contain a single screenshot. Entries with more than 1 screenshot will be disqualified.

    6. Your submission must also contain the following statement. Please note that your submission will be disqualified if this statement is not present in your post:
    Quote:
If I am a winner, I permit NC Interactive, Inc. and NCsoft Europe Limited to use my name, likeness, photograph, hometown, and any comments that I may make about myself or this contest that I provide for advertising and promotional activities. I also certify that I am at least 13 years of age and am eligible to participate in this contest.
    7. To enter the contest weekly, as of January 13, 2010, you must be 13 years of age or older. If a winner is under 18 or a minor in his or her state/province/country of residence, his or her parent or guardian must also sign any applicable releases and documentation.

    8. Please note, only 1 (one) entry per forum account will be accepted. If you post a second time, you'll get disqualified, so make your one entry count!

    9. Entries must conform to the Official City of Heroes Message Forum Rules and Guidelines.

    10. If you win the City of Heroes® Screenshot The Spot Contest one week, you are not eligible to do so again for the next 8 weeks. This is to allow other people the opportunity to win. Please be courteous to others and refrain from participating during the weeks you are not eligible to win.

  5. Heroes, Villains,

A group of Circle of Thorns followers was spotted around the Ziggurat in Brickstown and Vitto's lounge in St. Martial. We have strong suspicions that they were scouting the area. Intel suggests that if something happens, it will happen on Friday, June 11th, 2010 between 4PM Pacific (7PM Eastern) and 5PM Pacific (8PM Eastern).

Report to those areas come Friday and be vigilant! Make sure you team up with level 50s, the Circle of Thorns followers that were spotted were all level 54!

  7. Recent changes to the way the global mail system works in the game have allowed many of you to send items all over the place, notably to yourself in order to share items with other characters on your account. While this has been an obvious benefit right from the start, we would like to clarify that in order to keep this updated system as usable and stable as possible, items that you send to yourself will expire after 30 days and you will need to claim the items contained therein if you wish to keep them. This is also true if global mail to other accounts bounces back and remains in your mail box. 30 days after reception of that bounce back mail, you will no longer be able to claim items associated with that mail.

Please note this is working as intended and we are working on a more explicit way to advertise this feature in game.

Thank you for your patience and understanding with this matter.

Please discuss this announcement in this thread.

  9. The UDP port range was recently modified and we recommend you check your ports if you are encountering connectivity issues with the game such as not being able to move your character or hanging while zoning for instance.

City of Heroes requires the following ports to be open TCP: 6994, 2104, and 2106 and now UDP: 7000-7200.

You will need to check with the network administrator if these ports can be opened. If you are on a campus, military, or business network, their security measures may be preventing you from connecting. If you are at home then the issue is probably caused by a router or security software you may have installed. Disable any security software that may be running. If you do have a router you can try opening and forwarding the ports above on the router to see if that has any effect. However, the quickest way to eliminate the router as a possible cause is to remove it and plug your computer directly into your modem. If you can connect to the game while directly connected to your Internet connection then either the ports on the router need to be opened or there may be an issue with the router. If you are not sure you have a router or not please contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or the person who set up your Internet connection.
  10. Release notes for build 1800.201005212331.2T.

    COMBINED

    Powers

    General
    • Fixed a bug that caused many critters with ranged attacks to change behavior and prefer melee range, including Rikti Drones and most Mastermind pets. Critters should behave as they used to again.
    • Fixed a bug with the Blackwand power drawing from the ground and planting the player vs. just drawing the weapon normally.
    • Players may once again choose to not accept or decline the Mystic Fortune buff power.
    • Shield Defense (all) – characters will no longer walk on air when jumping with a shield drawn.

    PVP
    • Fiery Aura Fiery Embrace will no longer cause Travel Suppression in PVP

Welcome to our "Search the words, save the world" forum mission!

A super computer turned evil codenamed Ebil-o is attempting to take over our most powerful nations' computer systems and exterminate us puny human beings (how original, huh?). However, every week, a short window of opportunity allows us to break into Ebil-o's matrix and reset the timer leading to our undoubtedly apocalyptic end!

How do we do that, I hear you ask? Well, we happen to have an anonymous little helper and each week, he or she snail mails us a word search puzzle containing anywhere between 10 to 15 words related to City of Heroes related theme (Ebil-o likes City of Heroes; apparently, it helps him unwind after a long day hard at work planning to get rid of humanity).

Each week a new theme will be passed along and you will need to find the exact number of words you’re being told exists within the block of letters you are given.

Your opportunity to save us all is through a word block located at the bottom of this post.

The goal is to be the first one to find the words based on the theme (without being told what they are), circle them in the word block (using Paint or an equivalent program) and then list them below it.

If you are the first one to answer with the correct words, you win and only then will we be able to input the words into Ebil-o's matrix, thus delaying our impending doom. As a token of our gratitude, we'll give you the "Ebil-o FTL [date]" forum title as well as 1 (one) costume code amongst the following ones:
    • Carnival of Shadows Harlequin
    • Freakshow Tank Boss
    • Paragon Police Department Hardsuit
    • Carnival of Shadows Ring Mistress
    • Knives of Artemis Lt.
    • Praetorian Clockwork
Have fun…but not too much as each week we’re counting on you to save the world!

This is to allow other people the opportunity to win. Please be courteous to others and refrain from participating during the weeks you are not eligible to win.

-After reading the feedback from previous "Search the Words, Save the World" puzzles, I have made a few changes to how this will work and removed the failsafe.

    - Note that if a word includes more than 1 word, they will run together in the puzzle. Example - Envoy of Shadows would be found in the puzzle as ENVOYOFSHADOWS

If there is not a winner by the end of the day, I will post the solution.

This week's word list consists of 13 Names related to items or people that can be found in Kings Row.

It is obvious that many of you were particularly interested in the opportunity to showcase your work in game for all Going Rogue players to see. Unfortunately, there could only be 3 winners per category. Congratulations to the 6 players who placed in this contest – considering all the submissions, it was quite an accomplishment! The icing on the cake for 3 of them is that their creative ideas will be integrated into the City of Heroes® Going Rogue! I just know that our server technology doesn't support the merging of any kind of server list. We would have merged Training Rooms for Betas for instance if we were able to. I'm not saying it's never going to happen though.
  21. Valid points indeed, more suitable for invasion type of events though. We try and come up with stories that require just as much behind-kicking but also favor immersion. We'll get there
  22. Some of you will have picked up on the announcement we've just made about the Gamestop/Razer City of Heroes Going Rogue™ Complete Collection Pre-order promotion. This is bound to infuriate some of you and we understand that this will be felt even more strongly after we announced a few months back that Going rogue wasn't going to be available on the shelves in Europe.

As some of you may know, if you've read this post here, we couldn't let this Pre-order opportunity pass us by. Our intention is to market our game and make it known to non-City of Heroes players. While we've had this opportunity in North America, it's unfortunately not been the case in Europe so far.

We have not given up on finding ways to create opportunities for City of Heroes and hope we'll be able to give you an update on the situation in the short term, but bear in mind that we cannot guarantee anything at this point.

This is not the most informative post we've had for you, but we did want to acknowledge your concerns and assure you that we do consider them important. We always appreciate your constructive feedback, regardless of its nature and very much want to improve the experience of our European players.
