Help Kadabra Kill on Freedom, Thursday, May 27th, 2010 - 4PM Pacific

Unsettling news are spreading across Paragon City and the Rogue Isles. Kadabra Kill has managed to secure a mystical item that seems to be of interest to the Circle of Thorns. The latter will probably be sending the heavy artillery to get it.

Kadabra Kill has previously been spotted in Founders' Falls and Cap au Diable, probably to plan a safe route to one of the entrances to the Midnighter Club where he is sure to be taking this item.

Be vigilant, tomorrow, Thursday, May 27th, 2010 at 4PM Pacific Time (7PM Eastern Time)!

Interesting event. I quite enjoyed it. ^_^

Well of course there was the usual lag for these sort of things. But I found it quite unique, being a dev driven mission type event.

Protecting a Midnighter character controlled by a dev, complete with scripted dialogues and emotes, put a bit of immersion into the whole thing. I also liked the surprise ending. Although the ending fights were a bit anticlimactic, as the final bosses were killed really fast.

I also like that there were some hints connecting it to GR in some way. Not gonna spoil what it is.

We also got a new Yellow Title, so that was nice. Thanks so much devs.

This was a total disaster red-side. The lag made it totally unplayable (we're talking 20-30 seconds between clicks). Not just me, my entire team and a lot of people in /b were complaining about the same. We never made it to the finale because some level 54 arch-mages killed -everyone- before we could make it across the bridge in Cap. Most people that started it left before the arch-mage battle because of the lag. By the time we got to them, there were maybe half as many people, and not everyone was level 50, so they were useless against them.

Next time I suggest using mobs that have the GM conning system, like zombies have, so everyone can participate equally. Oh, and upgrade your servers.

I was there and eventually he said he was following me. Unfortunately, all of the people with all of their pets, auras and PBAoEs going didn't help and it looked like Kadabra disconnected at one point. We got to the first bridge and it's like everybody stopped moving. I saw the mages, but nobody was hitting them. The NPCs definitely need to be treated like GMs, not just level 54s in Cap.

I got tired of the QQ and massive amounts of fail that Freedom has no end of, so I exited the game and went to play one of those silly PopTop games. I don't think I got any shiny golden title, but I didn't have to deal with all of the QQ. It wouldn't be that bad if Freedom didn't have so much fail in its population.

We definitely have things to improve in the future and we'll be hard at work doing just that. I'm sorry some of you have had to suffer lag, certain events aren't appropriate to a server as popular as Freedom and we've learnt from that.

Glad some enjoyed themselves though!

Suggestion for high pop servers:

Prepare to run the even in four simultaneous zones:

1. Start in Grandville to draw players who have high level Villains. Once that is underway and continuing...

2. Start the next event in Peregrine to draw players who have high level Heroes. Once that is underway and continuing...

3. Start the next even in Port Oakes, to draw players with low level Villains. And once that is underway and continuing...

4. Start the event in Steel Canyon.

Because, if you start the event in Steel Canyon, well, just about everyone has an eligible toon and will go there and ignore any other event villainside or higher levels. So, by going from zones with lesser eligibility to greater, you're able to separate them more so.

Zombie makes a good suggestion. As an alternative, you should be ready to run the event in multiple zone instances. When Peregrine Island gets filled and PI 2 starts you should have people ready to start the event in PI 2.

Hopefully you guys will have some time to further refine events such as this after the GR and Incarnates go-lives.

I would like to chime in and say that I really enjoyed the idea of the event. A couple things to consider for next time:

- It was often hard to find KK. I added him to my friends list, but he was often out of range. I kept losing track of him because of all the chaos, both the massive number of people and pets, and also the CoT and zombies.

- Two dozen L54 CoT mages was not fun. When my team wasn't getting team-wiped, we were getting chain-held and then team-wiped. I agree that giant monsters, or perhaps variable-level mobs (as in normal zone events) would have made much more sense. Keep in mind that even though our team was SKed to a 50, that meant most of us were L49. Fighting +5 CoT bosses with 30-second holds and apparent 200 yard range. In massive power-click lag.

My team quit the event and went back to doing missions shortly after KK made it to the Midnighter Club. Except no one on my team (except me) knew he'd made it there, because we'd team-wiped so often that we had no idea where KK was. I only knew he finished his journey because someone said so in global. My team was so utterly fed up with the lag and debt that they utterly ignored the ?Archmage?'s announcement. I didn't want to PuG for this kind of event and no one in our global channel wanted to deal with it, so I ended up logging. I'd really like to know what happened with the rest of the event.. I was hoping someone would post here.

Again I really, really like the idea of the event, and was excited to participate. There are just a few things that could have been executed a little better. Thank you very much for the unique and interesting event! ^_^

On this particular point: I wonder if the "bounty" location system from Siren's Call could be used to improve the experience for events like this. Something of this design gets the exact problem Sapphire discusses: Too many players/mobs and you lose track of the target in question, not because of skill, but because the game will drop the rendering of that avatar due to overload.

Imagine if Kadabra were being chased by all Masterminds.
