"Friend" was given promotion sooner than usual due to the voucher.
"Friend" raided enhacement & salvage bins of all the good stuff.
Then "friend" AND "trusted player" both left the SG... never to be heard from again.

This used to be quite a common practice, especially before salvage bins had individual access permissions.

Now, I don't invite people unless I have known them (as much as is possible online) for considerably more than 3 weeks. And, certain salvage bins are "gated".

    .
This is why I suggested that free players be allowed to enter SG's, but will not be eligible for promotions. Also, seeing as he had 3 weeks invested in the SG, it seems like limiting trial players away from SG's would not have helped stop that particular theft.
  3. I just hope they don't make it better than Dual Blades for DPS. I just spent billions IO'ing out my DB/SR Scrapper.
  4. Yep, looks like a TW Brute is gonna be my next main.

There are different levels of trust, which depend on what you're willing to trust that person with. If you're willing to trust that person with your common IO's and salvage, you trust him a bit and you've probably found him a reasonable person in-game. If you're willing to trust that person with your rare salvage, you trust him a lot and he might be your close friend in-game. If you're willing to trust that person with your account or your rare/purple IO's, you REALLY trust him and he's likely someone you know IRL.

You thought wrong. The game has never had public bins. We always had the ability to restrict storage access. The problem was that we originally couldn't customize storage permissions per container. That made using the security a PITA to use.
Did you intentionally avoid the point of what I said or is nitpicking semantics your pet peeve? You have storage which can be accessed by other people than you. Not exactly public. Fine.

But you also have storage which can only be accessed by you, through the personal vault and Wentworth's across multiple alts. Why don't you store your valuables there?

If free members can't join SG's does it matter?
Of course it does. Embracing someone into your community, letting him chat with everyone else in your community, easily making him accesible to teams and giving him access to a base. Almost all of those are vital things to the new player experience of CoH.

Sounds like a dictatorship to me.
    2. Don't put valuables in the bins
    2. Don't put valuables in the bins
How is that dictatorship? You keep the valuable things close to you, and you don't lose them. That's common sense.

As far as I've seen none whatsoever. I have yet to see anyone on a trial account complain. If you have please provide the links to their threads.

The only complaints I've seen were made by people with active accounts proclaiming doom that never happened.
I've seen multiple people state that they wanted their friends to subscribe to the game, but their friends found the chat limitations off-putting, couldn't get integrated into the community, and they didn't subscribe. No SG access is definitely a bad thing if you want to integrate new players into the community.

I thought that was what personal storage was for. Public bins are for things you don't find useful but someone else might.

SG's are about trusting the people you invite. Run an SG like a dictatorship that doesn't trust it's members and it will soon be a solo SG.
Where was I advocating running an SG like a dictatorship? I'm simply being realistic.
If you share your valuables with people you don't trust fully, don't cry foul when the valuables some day disappear.

    3. Wait until most if not all the SG members are offline then remove everything from storage and transfer it to another account, sell it at a vendor/market.
    4. Quit the SG and abandon the free account, create a new free account and raid another SG.
There are at least 3 layers of protection for the SG there.

    1. Don't invite strangers
    2. Don't put valuables in the bins
    3. Don't give new members access to the bins

Just how common was this, exactly?

Note that free players won't have access to that forum.

No the inability to join SG's stopped people from using free trials to join SG's and raid them.

The ability to restrict storage access by rank limited the ability of paying players to join SG's and rip them off.
So my suggestion of not letting free players get promoted fixed the "rip them off" part of it.

Care to elaborate on the raid part? I'm not familiar with all the details of SG running.

I thought the inability to get promoted fixed that problem, but I don't know much about running SG's. Anyway, putting that as a restriction for free players should solve the problem, no?
  10. Like I said in the big thread, the hook of the game is in community interaction. Not just playing with a team, but also interacting with the community through forums, local chat, global chat channels, SG chat, and tells.

The gameplay gets you to sit down, open up the game and play for a bit. The community hooks you in and keeps you in front of the PC for hours.

What I hope the devs implement:

    1. A sub-forum in the Player Help forum which everyone can access, intended towards helping new players. Premium and Free players don't get signatures, avatars, and their posts don't count towards their post count.

    2. Global Chat Channels can be joined by Free players, but they can't talk. This option can be turned on or off by the channel admins. Player caps on global chat channels increased significantly.

    3. Free players can join SG's, but they contribute half as much prestige and can't be promoted.

I haven't seen or come up with a flawless solution to the Tell issue, but it isn't as major of an issue as the chat channels. The least worse idea I have is to let free players send tells, but differently tagged tells which can be filtered out separately and don't make a sound when received.

    Free Going Rogue

I would personally like it if some parts of GR were made PP purchasable to people who didn't purchase GR. The alignment system, for example.
  12. It looks like BF needs one recharge IO in it to fit into the BF-AV chain smoothly with that build, so perhaps find a slot somewhere for it and one for Power Slice as well(I would take one from Stamina and one from SS). Also, VS is .2 of a second off fitting in the chain smoothly without a recharge IO, but that's probably something you could live with.
  13. Musculature always gives more DPS than Spiritual(with DB anyway). I think you can do away with both Hasten and Spiritual and still get smooth DB chains(BF-AV and BF-Sweep).

Seeing as WP doesn't need recharge at all it would be a solid way to go.

    The Wow! Factor

There's my SS/Elec Brute which can handle pretty much everything, but I have so much invested in him it's not really surprising.

I have to say my namesake Empath surprised me the most, check out the video in my sig for the reason why. The day I found out recharge buffs affect lore pets.
  15. This seems more like a Tanker build than a Scrapper one. I would personally like more recharge bonuses in there.
  16. As tempting as it may be, the F2P conversation would be better directed to the general forums. Might be a better idea to talk about the Archetype & Powers info in Issue 21, like the Time Manipulation powerset, even though there hasn't been a lot of info released on it.

    Clarion?
  18. The Blinding Feint->Attack Vitals chain from DB gives you a lot of bang for the buck, as it doesn't take significant amounts of recharge(letting you get away with taking Musculature instead of Spiritual) and packs a fair amount of damage.

Do you play an Empath? AB doesn't have a fixed recharge, I have no idea what you're talking about. If you really want proof that bad, watch the video in my sig to see how fast AB can recharge.
  20. Someone has to say it so I will.

Blaster Sonic Blast is not bad by any means. It is in fact one of the better primaries available. Depending on the team, the extra damage can be more important than the extra -res, and the Blaster will have better attacks at his disposal.

My Sonic/MM/Elec Blaster can have a never-ending cone chain of Howl/Psychic Scream/Static Discharge which puts out heavy AoE damage. A sonic defender won't come close to the level of AoE damage my Blaster can put out(but will have better team support), and will probably only be better for team damage in AV fights, depending on the team composition.

Granted, Hasten would have just over a 9 second down time (also without the +100% recharge from AB).

So, with AB being perma on a quick Emp/Sonic Defender, I would have something along the lines of 1588% regeneration, 1156% recovery, just over 30% def (all positions(Hover, Maneuvers, Defender Fortitude), damage bonus of 134% (Assault, Set bonuses, Defender Fortitude, Amplify), a to-hit bonus of 88.6% ( Tactics, Defender Fortitude, Amplify), a +248.75% recharge boost, and +12 status protection (90 seconds duration).* All that with ranged attacks that have -Res.

You don't think that is over powered just a wee little bit?

    * Using Mid's calculations and some in-game testing.
I don't think that's over-powered. All those percentages may look cool, but that doesn't matter if you don't have any solid attacks to back them up.

Aside from Nukes(Green Machine's main tool which works best if 8 ppl have it) and Ice's Rain powers, Defenders don't have any significant DPA attacks. So even with all those damage and recharge bonuses, your damage is unlikely reach Blaster or Scrapper levels.

Let's say you're an Emp/Sonic Defender. Even at the damage cap, a Blaster with around +150% damage into its attacks(easily achievable with Enhancements, BU, Aim, Defiance, Musculature, Assault, and set bonuses) will not only surpass your damage, but will have a myriad of better offensive skills at his disposal through his secondary and ancillary. Since Blasters can be made pretty survivable nowadays(Drain Psyche and softcapped def), are Blasters over-powered?
  22. Here's a Cold/Sonic build I had planned to implement but probably won't, as I didn't find the character all that interesting to play.

    -Softcapped S/L/E defense.
-Perma Hasten with some extra recharge for Benumb and Heat Loss.
    -Softcapped perma pets.
-No expensive purple sets or PVP IO's.
