Quote:SD isn't as godlike as you make it out to be, considering its dependency on having multiple targets around for maximum DPS and its powerset limitations. Also, I'm quite confident my SR scrapper could give any FA Brute or SD Scrapper a run for their money once I finish building him. That game balance is completely laughed at when the conversation turns to Scrappers vs. Stalkers - so frankly I don't think it holds any water with Scrappers vs. Brutes until Stalkers get some kind of a real fix.
For the most part Brutes and Scrappers are balanced against each other when you discuss DPS vs. Durability - the numbers are usually slight in both directions.
And then you add SD into the mix, and the Scrapper shoots way past the Brute's DPS with no major compensation on the Brute end outside of getting more out of OWTS.
Considering the benefits that SD gives Scrappers - and how comparatively weaker powers like Shield Charge & Lightning Rod work on brutes, not to mention the Stalker being totally outclassed by Scrappers, I think even with 1 secondary giving Brutes an edge things are still pretty even.
Not every Brute wants to be FA, just like not every Scrapper wants to be SD. -
Quote:Yeah, well, that's just like uh, your opinion man.empathy is by far the least enjoyable defender to play. The QoL is in the toilet.
I don't find active debuffing any more fun than active buffing, and just blasting all the time isn't that fun either. Fun is quite subjective in this case and shouldn't be a factor. -
Quote:You don't think there are solo players who use global channels and other forms of in-game communication to keep their interest in the game? Just because they aren't vocal in your global channels doesn't mean much.I don't need a citation when I can observe for myself. Currently, the most vocal people on this forum are those that are soloers or players disgruntled with the incarnate trial emphasis. They tend to come to these forums for their socializing, and play the game predominately alone and in an instance. You would probably fit this archetype, Bill Z.
The people that enjoy iTrials and teaming are out there playing the game, using global channels, and forming Super Groups and Leagues. They only come to these forums for information and occasional participation. I have rarely if ever heard players call for solo content in the busiest global chat channels in the game, but it is a daily event on these forums with a string of recycled names leading the charge.
If the forums were emblematic of the broader player base, at least with regards to desired solo content, I should hear more than a ping while playing the game. -
Quote:I only ran a total of 6 pylon runs to test it out, 3 with AB on Vicky and 3 without. The times were consistently better with AB by around 50%, but with only that small number of tests it's not definite. As I understand it, they inherit it, they aren't buffed by it. All pets' powers got the Strength of Will treatment. This is the first I've heard, for that matter, that Lore pets are an exception to that.
Though looking at this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lDETnhPs1o
You can definitely see a difference with AB on and off. -
If you think that people not expecting you to main tank is a benefit, you might as well roll a brute.

The whole point of the incarnate content is to encourage TF's and Leagues.
People who avoid teams have incarnate progression options, but I would tend to agree those options are too limited. -

The combo system gives Dual Blades some sort of swiss army knife feel. You can choose to do extra damage, debuff -ToHit, Knockdown, and best of all you can fit -res procs which help out the team. Your AoE damage won't be lacking, but it won't be at Claws/Elec Melee/Spines levels.
Dual Blades also happens to be the top independent DPS performer, but it takes a lot of influence and slots to reach that level, and influence+slots are things both Dark Armor and Fiery Aura need as well. If you choose to go for the "Solid DPS" route instead of the "Top DPS" route Dual Blades is actually quite easy on slots and influence, but will have you skipping less powers. -
Lore pets don't ignore recharge buffs, unless it was changed in a recent patch.
Look at the video in my signature and compare the time it takes for Vicky's attacks to recharge with the time they are supposed to recharge(8s for lasers, 6s for cross cut, 4s for swipe).
Applying Adrenalin Boost to Vicky made my time about 50% faster. -

Let's have a badge for buying Zwillinger a steak dinner while we're at it.

I don't find KM on scrappers all that impressive, really. If you want single target DPS there are better options, and the AoE isn't stellar.
Stalkers get Burst crit and some nice spike damage combos.
Tankers get the best damage debuffs which complement their survivability quite well.
Brutes are probably the worst off with KM. -
Quote:Reward or no reward, fact remains that it's really difficult to coordinate due to contact restrictions("you must talk to x contact before you can talk to y"), level restrictions("you can't talk to me ever again"), and arc advancement issues("I'm way back on the second mish guys please help"). Even if people flock to the old zones it will be a coordination nightmare.I was using him as an example. Yes, I *have* done this on multiple arcs and strike/task forces.
And again, with this sort of reward being given out, do you really think people *wouldn't* coordinate to run through arcs?
The restrictions are so annoying that the good content effectively loses its flare and becomes bad content, and if you put a shiny reward in it people will just experience bad content more often.
This is partially why Ouroboros and the Reward Merit system was introduced, to make people run the good mission arcs and TF's. Ouroboros did away with all the restrictions and made things streamlined with the TF model. The only problem is that the rewards suck and people don't know how long certain arcs take(unlike TF's), so maybe that's something to consider. -
Quote:Montegue's arc is a special case because the end-reward(access to the midnight club) doesn't rely on everyone starting at the same time. When you have a mission arc that takes a while to complete, you will likely stop at the middle(whole point of the story arc system as opposed to TF's). Good luck finding anyone else except the ones you started out with that are in the same location as you are within the arc. And if you want to start a new arc, in many cases others wouldn't have access to the contact. This is all assuming a situation that doesn't involve close friends or a superteam. So you never, ever hear people saying "Running X arc, pst if interested?" (For instance, Montegue's arc?)
And behaviour can't change with an added reward?
Quote:And I do. What I'm looking at with the countersuggestion is avoiding the PLing the OP's suggestion would encourage and encouraging people to get probably as many (if not more) PPs for *playing the content.*
Heck, throw in a bonus for finishing story zones like Striga, Croatoa or Faultline (which, admittedly, rather screws over redside until either Croatoa or RWZ... but OTOH encourages more stuff like this to be made/added to places like DA.) -

Quote:Account one: Powerleveler. That should only become a problem if you can send paragon points to other accounts. If not, playing another account only nets you more character slots, that's it. You can't possibly get EVERYTHING by making more accounts if the rewards and points are bound to account.
Account two: Main account.
1. Main account creates a character.
2. Powerleveler makes Main account's character ding 50.
3. Main account gets a lot of PP's.
4. Main account deletes the character.
5. Repeat. -
Quote:Free players potentially quitting over this is bad enough. It is a big loss when a potential customer doesn't get to enjoy what your game offers before quitting. Why would them racing to the cap be bad. Ether they'll
A: quit (Big loss) or
B: get invested into the game and become regular players.
But with only 2 slots they'll liable to max them out and just leave with out ever getting a chance to enjoy the game.
Having a lvl 50 equal a new slot would encourage them to keep playing, expanding, exploring.
Not to mention that it would be also vary fine for those of us who are playing and could use the extra slots.
But that's not the only problem. People will use dual accounts to farm PP's. -
Quote:Badge hunting isn't my cup of tea, either. It doesn't reward players for challenging content, it rewards them for content I, personally, find tedious(exploration badges in particular). That isn't saying badge hunting shouldn't be rewarded more, but making it the center of a new PP reward system isn't something I would like.I'm sorry if my post wasn't clear.
But free paragon points attached from reaching badge milestones isn't directly connected to power levelling. I mean there ARE only four badges to do with reaching levels. Additionally on a single character you can only earn a single badge once.
If DDO give points for completing challenging content, why can't CoH give points to playing ALL the content? If anything there's badges to be gained in not power levelling too. -

Quote:I've never found Mo teams very alienating, and "even greater rewards" implies that a badge that does nothing is a great reward in the first place. That said I wouldn't want anything close to what the OP wants in terms of the number of PP's. 5-10 per Mo badge seems reasonable.Attaching even greater rewards to badges that are already frustrating and potentially alienating doesn't seem like a great idea to me.
Mo teams might be too picky at times, but that's the only trade-off. If they fail the Mo run they rarely stop and start over unless they've just started out, so it's not that frustrating. If you fail you still get rewards for completion.
Still this isn't something I would really like to have in the game, just something nice to put on the long list of nice things that could be added. There are much more important things the devs could do. -
Quote:The only groups of people who will ever run the same arc together on a regular basis are Superteams, the occasional close friend team, and Task Forces. Anything else is wishful thinking with how non-ouroboros mission arcs currently work. So, take the OP's idea (which I agree is *very* bad) and use it to encourage running of content instead. Any non-Ouro arc that you finish (of your own,) you get one. Task forces, two the first time. (Perhaps limit to those that award a badge, so badge = two PP.) Grand total of five for reaching 50.
Doesn't sound like much... until you start running a good bit of content.
Of course, there's a question of what to do with content finished in teams - though it'd also encourage people to run the same arcs together.
To be honest, I don't see any great content in this game worth encouraging with PP's. TF's are already giving not only merits but also shards, potential accolades, and the occasional WST.
I could see giving PP's for a "Master of" badge, but some of those can be too easy to get. EDIT: Actually, that wouldn't be too bad. Hmm. -

Quote:Except that method encourages doing the challenging content, and doesn't lend itself to repetitiveness as you cannot get points from the same quest more than once, and there are i'm assuming lots of quests to get points from. This idea is not as stupid as you all think it is, in fact it might even encourage people to buy paragon points for feature purposes and for that I will explain more clearly
I've played one hybrid MMO much like CoH is going to turn into, it's Dungeons and Dragons Online. They have VIPs, they have premiums and they have frees. THEY gave out free 'turbine points' every time your character earned enough 'favour' from quests, to get all the favour from a quest you needed to complete it at the hardest difficulty and unless someone else in the team already did it, required you to complete it on Normal and Hard before you could reach 'Elite'.
Rewarding people for reaching 50 will encourage powerleveling, the worst form of content in the game.
