I have to say no. Paragon studios have never forced you to spend money to get badges quickly before as far as I am aware (GR does not count)
Its also not really fair to be honest.
5000 points is 12.5 months
10000 is 25 months
15000 is 37.5 months
While I don't see myself leaving during those 37.5 months it seems like an extremely long amount of time to play for such little reward.
This is coming from someone with nearly 1200 badges

I'm all but CERTAIN I recall Positron saying he wanted to avoid any "bought" badges, which would give an advantage in badge collection to those with disposable income and thus 'penalize' badge hunters low on resources. As the points (as I understand them) are associated with VIP subscriptions AND money purchases, this suggestion is all but "buy a badge!"
As such, I very much doubt this will happen.
(I am aware that veteran badges have been money-based, but before there was no way to play without the monthly cost.)

They said on facebook today that they wouldn't be selling badges.
Though this suggestion would get around it. You wouldn't be buying a badge, merely getting a badge as a result of buying something else.
Always remember, we were Heroes.
I thought I read there was a badge tied to paragon points, but it was simply a "I bought something" badge.
Whether you spend 1 or OVER NINE THOUSAND points, you have the badge. It's pretty much the difference between a freeper and a preeper.

So it hit me. A perfect way to help make more money for CoH while still not costing anything for those who are willing to wait.
Badge 1 - You've spent 5,000 Paragon Points
Badge 2 - You've spent 10,000 Paragon Points
Badge 3 - You've spent 15,000 Paragon Points
Now I didn't include any names for the badges, since I'm not sure if something like Big Spender is already being used or not. But this is way to get some hard core badgers spending money quickly, while still being fair to the VIPs who just wait it out and just use their 400 PP a month.
The badges would of course be global account wide badges and not character only.
