Sitting here trying to visualize even five or six different versions of "stick face out to shoot crap at bad/good guys" is making me laugh hysterically.
Just this:
Over, and over, and over, and over, and over and over again. -
Quote:I'd definitely be game for adding new animations, but again, I don't know of how much animation variation would exist in a "shoots stuff out of my face" vein. Perhaps that's why I'm not a professional. It's only one attack though, I need a plethora of eyebeams. Heck, I'd be happy if they just let us choose eyes/head for all blast powers. That'd be more than enough for me.
And sometimes Ninjitsu. If anything, Batman is a good argument for pushing the ancillary power pools up even sooner like 12 or 15
As for Ninjitsu, my Batgirl tribute character "Kuraikage" (dark shadow) is a StJ/Nin stalker, with plans for the Weapon APP. I'd wholeheartedly support opening those pools up at level 20. -
*chuckle* I semi-agree with that; I have both a StJ and MA, but (to me) the punching animations in MA are HUGELY different than the "flow" of Street Justice. When I picture Batman or Spiderman fighting a group of thugs (which isn't particularly hard to picture), Street Justice just fits better than the punchy MA.
As I've said before in multiple threads, I have absolutely nothing against new content of any kind. It shows that Paragon is still investing time and money into the game I love (and have devoted more time to than is probably healthy) but, come on! There has to be a limit to it.
Besides, the development impetus for new powersets (I'd imagine) is never "Well, Superhero X uses this set in the comics, so let's put it in the game!" Which is why threads like this are kind of nebulously helpful. A "staple" is wildly different from one comic fan to another. -
Hey! As a Pinnacleian (Pinnacleite? Pinnaclean? We have no idea) I resent that!
Also, I think my signature needs to be reiterated here. -
/facepalm
The reason we don't have Web Control and Exploding Cards (outside of Web Grenade, Web Envelope, and Entangling Arrow) is that it's a very specific power of one very specific character. The GMs wouldn't be able to generic the copyrighted characters fast enough.
As for throwing shields, that was discussed at length when Shield Defense was in beta; it's an animation/power mechanics thing (the same as stretching/elastic attacks), plus the aforementioned cloning issue.
If you only want to blast eye beams, take that one attack and don't use anything else. There isn't a lot of animation variation, at least not enough to devote an entire powerset to it.
Storm Summoning:
- Gale (wind)
- Lightning Storm (lightning)
- Freezing Rain (ice/snow)
All in *one* powerset! The mind is blown!
Batman is easy: Street Justice/Willpower/Weapon Mastery. Punches, kicks to the gut, *natural* defenses, and you get the throwing stuff! Problem solved. -
Quote:As far as suggestions for the OP, staples (which I define subjectively, obviously) we're missing is really just the Blast/Armor AT (Mary Marvel, Iron Man, Amazo, etc).Just thought of some more,
Web Control (Spiderman) No. One character uses this power. ONE. Gods, no.
Shield Melee (Captain America) Already have Shield Defense, and Street Justice.
Crossbow (Huntress)
Laser Blast (Cyclops) - Already have Laser Beam Eyes, X-Ray Beam, etc.
Gadgets (Batman) - Traps.
Weather Blast (Storm) - Storm Summoning/Elec Blast
Exploding Cards (Gambit) - Again, one-trick pony, plus Propel if you really want to throw random stuff at people. -
I just...the "we HAVE to have X number of X powerset, and we CAN'T take more than X number of X powerset/AT" mindset leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Yes, I get that it's an incredibly difficult badge to get. Yes, I understand the seeming necessity of a very specific league makeup to accomplish it. Yes, I get that once the "barrier" of receiving the badge, others can "tag along," but it still strikes me as not CoH-esque. -
o.0
PvP, eh? In RV, you say?
Hmmm...I may have to come out for this, but any recipes people get from killing me, I want half the profits! -
*This'* is what I'm talkin' about! It would never in a million years occurred to me to put damage in OSA.
>.<
Thanks, Adeon. That actually makes a lot of sense. -
I did have trouble with those two...but I chose Ice over EMP because Ice will be available more often; even with that limited slotting, EMP is still 147.8% ACC, 165s recharge, and has increased range and duration from set bonuses.
Obviously, if I *did* switch, I'd still use Lockdown, but would it really make that much of a difference? Web Envelope's not slotted either, for the same reasons. -
So, this will be my first foray into the Land of The Bow, and I'd like to see if I hit the bullseye (pun completely intended)
This is obviously not a leveling build, but had the following goals:
Constant 22% to-hit: Check.
Softcapped ranged defense: Check.
Bonus goals met:
Softcapped energy defense: Check
36% S/L/N defense: Check
All TA powers recharge faster than their duration: Check.
I went with Scorpion's pool for Focused Acc and the shield, so Web Envelope was just kind of gravy.
Is there anything glaring I'm missing or have woefully under- or over-slotted?
(P.S. the concept is a Natural Hawkeye-type, hence the lack of travel power and 2 slots in Swift.)

Well, if it makes you feel any better Trickshooter, I have a build for an Arch/TA Corruptor I'm very excited about: excited enough that my plan is to take it through Praetoria (which, on Pinnacle, is essentially locking myself into soloing for the first 20 or more levels.
-
How do you figure that's "god-like" survivability?
Again, I make the point: It doesn't matter how survivable you are if the things attacking you *aren't* attacking you. It's the same argument I make for Controllers not necessarily "needing" to softcap anything. If they're mezzed (or in the Brute's case, defeated), they aren't attacking and your resistance/defense/regen/healing doesn't matter.
The faster and more efficiently you defeat your enemies, the less survivability you need. -
So...what you're saying is Tankers are Tankers because of Taunt the Power?
...
No...? -
My newest Incarnate is my SS/Inv brute, and she's cruising through everything, until Belladonna's arc. (Haven't done all of DA yet, though, so don't know how she'd handle that.)
I built her standard SS/Inv (soft-capped S/L with 1 in Invin aura, +HP/+Regen elsewhere, +Rchg, etc.), and it seems the things that are killing me quite handily in the Belladonna arc at +0/x8 is the Fear and the Def Debuff. I have all the passives, but no Destiny power yet, would it make that much of a difference? What would I need to give up for Leadership? -
Yes. Even in City of Heroes, five times seven is thirty-five.
-
Well, I gathered from context clues like a forum registration date of July 2004 and a post count of over 8,000 that bpphantom would have *some* clue as to the identity of Hero 1.

The (2) is for the number of pieces in the set you have to slot in the same power to get that bonus:
(2) - Bonus for slotting 2 pieces
(3) - Bonus for slotting 3 pieces
etc. etc.
For all set bonuses, you can only have five of the same one. For example, you can only have five +7% ACC bonuses (regardless of what set they come from) across your entire build. If you slot any more than that, those bonuses will not apply.
In the "Personal Info," where it lists the set bonuses, the "x number: (x 4, for example) is the number of bonuses you have of that particular type. -
You heard it here first, kids:
City of Warriors and Rogues! If you're not a meatshield or invisible backstabber, get thee to a nunnery!
>.>
I keed, I keed. I do think Tankers need...something. I, personally, have no desire to play one other than "get all hero ATs to 50" and it's the last one I need. -
Somebody needs to remind me to go to CapeCon next year. I'm in St. Louis now, so it wouldn't be so much of a chore to go...and I've started listening to The Cape over the last few weeks and all those karaoke songs (crappy recording quality notwithstanding) is definitely enough to make me want to go.

Also, yay for AV 1.1! Can't wait for the next content update. Though I've wished for years to join the ranks of the Forum Cartel, or at least some kind of custom title, I don't think I have the necessary chutzpah to do it. -
Eh? What semi-new arc? I thought new was like being pregnant...you either are or you aren't.
-
See, I don't get the "someone really strong without extra toughness" thing.
This may be a bit...much, but do you have any idea how much muscle mass and bone density it would take to punch through a brick wall? Pick up and support a half-ton car, let alone throw it? Correlation, in this case, does indicate causality. The very nature of a "super strength" (barring like, say, Iron Man) power indicates some sort of physiological adaptation to support it, which would make that person inherently more resistant to damage than a normal human. Even Spidey has an increased healing ability, can take concussive blasts, super-strength punches, etc. and still be slinging witty banter.
As for Invulnerable types who don't hit for much...well, that's a little more difficult to find an example of.
