I like it. I find the goggle look to be silly and glad they didn't go that way.

Quote:I think the devs need to start stating WHY they need to maint as often as they have been doing it.Log in and make a new toon just in time for servers to boot me. Do we really need servers to come down every single day?
Maybe then folks would be more understanding. If there is something seriously wrong with the servers which required near daily maint they need to say so.
On Tuesdays them being down is understood to be for a patch.
I think they need to state why they need more than Thursday to do maint so folks can get why the servers need to come down as often as they have been. -

Quote:Completely disagree. I'd rather folks get used to the way UPPER LEVEL trials will be formed. Which is PREFORMING before queuing. Why are you perpetuating the problem with the LFG system by pre-forming groups? DfB doesn't require some mystical "perfect" group setup. Any group of players with lukewarm IQs can finish that thing. Queue up, tell other people to queue up, et voila! You are automatically placed in a group that you don't have to micromanage invitations.
The LFG system is there for a reason. Use it! Encourage other people to use it!
I understand pre-forming for iTrials, which can easily be failed without a small amount of balancing. I *don't* understand pre-forming for DfB, which pretty much can't be failed.
/b Queuing Death from Below, a fun lowbie experience with tons of XP - click "LFG" on your chat bar and queue up!
The LFG system is useless at level 50. -

Anahid - pagan goddess of fire, war, and poetry (related to Anahita)
Nersesian - patronymic name indicating "son/descendant of Nerses", who created the Armenian alphabet system

Now... because I'm me...
Top Ten Ways Samuraiko And Hublet Can Celebrate Nine Years
10) Take full advantage of this being the Leather Anniversary... spend three days apologizing for forgetting the "safe" word...
9) Add "Nine Years: A Retrospective" to the list of videos to be done... get around to it by the 14th anniversary...
8) Convince the hubbie to put on the home-made Positron armor to re-enact favorite scenes from Nerd Romance...
7) Whisper "you know... City of Heroes isn't the ONLY game in town that's free to play..." in his ear and see what develops...
6) Watch Wedding video together... complain about all the errors and mistakes... shake head at what a noob you were back then...
5) Second Honeymoon Task Force.
4) Read all the responses to this thread... double then triple check main characters' email and realize everyone would rather say "happy anniversary" than send gifts...
3) Run one of your Tip missions together... congratulate him on his find of a purple recipe... call lawyer to see if there is such a thing as "justified homicide"...
2) Greet him at the door wearing nothing but a name tag reading "Hello My Name is Katherine"... ask him if he's interested in running a quick Katie...
1) Use your Ouroboros Portal to go back and do it all over again... Not. Change. A. Thing. -
Quote:If that's the kind of clipping the devs are afraid of, I say let us clip away.Oh no, clipping!
Fact is, if it wasn't for clipping, Baltzam's costume wouldn't look half as cool as it does. The Big bit is the Valkyrie Shoulders and the High Collar Cloak. The top, rounded paldroun sits atop the material, while underneath on the arm itself is the smaller pauldron. Clipping was used to make the helmet out of Samurai, Warrior and Cyborg pieces, along with a nice glowing aura.
I'm Zortel, and I approve of letting us decide whether to use clipping costume parts or not.
Damn good costume.
You guys are so much better at building costumes then I am.
I think I've lost a bit of my imagination in my advancing age. -

Quote:The current way the character creator is organized is terrible. Sorry. Full Stop. Arcanaville above lays out why those classifications don't function that well. What goes in other mmos is NOT completely tranferrable to how ATs function here, with multiple ATs being able to pull multiple roles, as you also mention. But if you look at the character creation, the classes themselves are arranged by such playstyles. Brutes ARE listed as a Tanker class. Corruptors are ranged damage. Dominators are support for the same reason Controllers are (Mezzes are support).
While the ATs are indeed flexible (and I won't deny that!) it's obvious NCSoft/Paragon believes that at their core, they have an intended role and/or function. It doesn't mean they can't do other things (I've seen Tankers fulfilling DPS roles and of course there's Blappers and Tankerminds), but they have a role they were meant to fill.
For veterans, yes, it's confusing because we all know this information. But for people either new to CoX or heck, new to MMOs, it would be much easier for them to start with the established roles, and then branch out.
And btw I've NEVER (and I can bet others will chime in on this, especially those who started on COV) though of Brutes as Tanks. EVER.
Also there was once a time where the developers noted that MMs were the ones that were meant to be COV's tanks. NOT BRUTES!
So no, the current character classification in game ARE NOT AT ALL WELCOME. But I'm not going to complain too loudly about them. THEY SHOULD NOT BE BROUGHT TO THE FORUMS. Leave the AT forums as is.
Thankfully Zwill seems to be getting this.
The other suggestions Zwil suggested I'm down for. -
Quote:Uhhh, I haven't bought the Barbarian set yet, so I don't know this, but don't the new sets have a "Complete" set option so that you see the complete costume parts as one?
Those are all the pieces I saw. I may be missing some, but as with most other costume set, I have no idea what's actually in it and where to find all the damn parts, so that's all I have.
I distinctly remember other booster packs having that option (especially the Witch set).
Please tell me that did not change, or my memory is just bad. -
Quote:My suggestion is for them to do EVERYTHING on Patch day. (Tuesday) If it takes all day then fine, but then there is NO NEED for other maintenance on any other day, if you take 12 hours (or more) on Tuesday.OK, even I'm starting to feel that this is WAY too much maintenance. We're getting half a workday's worth of maintenance every couple of days, and I'm finally starting to lose my patience with it.
Here's the thing - I have other things to do and other games to play. But if I can't play this one too many times in a row and instead keep having to play other ones... I start to not want to play it at all, because I fall out of the loop.
I sincerely hope that we stop getting "Issue Launch!!!" type maintenance windows every other day very, very soon, or this is going to turn really ugly, really fast.
If the servers crash later in the week that's obviously a different story.
I say this as someone who hasn't had ANY issues with how much maint has been going on. -
Quote:Then don't buy it.That would be true Sam, except the devs still arbitrarily decide what comes out based on what they feel is best for us.
"You can get it in any colour, as long as it's black" still applies if the art team for example decides to only release it in black. You could just not get it, but that has always been the option. -
Quote:Agreed. And as an "Old Guard" player myself, who started in May of 2004, I disagree. City of Heroes has never been better, I've never had more fun with it and I've never had more things to look forward to. Especially counting the last year of iCrap and not much else, Freedom is a godsend.
What's more, now that "you get what you pay for," this has enabled me to vote with my money. I no longer have to worry about what someone on the art team feels looks good, because I get what I choose to get. If I want large weapons for women, then I say so. When large weapons for women come out, I WILL pay for it. This gives incentive to the development team to develop what players are asking for, as opposed to what their "vision" dictates people should want.
"You can get it in any colour, as long as it's black" no longer applies to the game, and if this costs me a few extra dollars a month, that power alone is more than worth it. City of Heroes is still by FAR the cheapest form of entertainment that I know of which is actually entertaining for more than a day, and if I have to pay for it, I will pay for it. -
Quote:This, right here.Considering we're transitioning into a new business model, I think it's understandable, it doesn't change the fact that you, me, and many others want to play right now, but it's understandable. Most of us have been here long enough to endure the large amounts of maintenance that comes with new releases, this is only topped off with how the game is changing.
-
Quote:THIS. Pretty much this. Here's the funny thing - now that I an see all purchasable pieces in the store, I don't have to buy anything until I actually need it. I was still determined to buy everything, however, just because I respect the art team and I feel that their work is worth paying money for even if I don't really need it right as it's released.
This is the straw that breaks the camel's back. If sets are going to deliberately and intentionally going to hold back all the best pieces, then I won't buy them until I have a use for them, and considering I rarely have use for more than half a set, I'll be spending a lot less on clothes. It's a pity because I honestly DO want to support the studio and encourage it to make more great costumes.
I'll resume doing that when they resume making great costumes FOR ME, instead of making great costumes for the NPCs and giving me the stripped-down minion version. I'm willing to pay for the good stuff, but if I can't have the good stuff, then I'm done spending my money on anything non-essential. Sorry. -
Quote:Now THAT is a great idea.Hopefully if Freedom makes them enough money they can do both, have team one reworking stuff, team two making new stuff.
Would even make for good on the job training, you're not allowed to make new stuff till you've proven your merit reworking the old stuff. -
Quote:Well said. I agree.I never wanted that, particularly, but given the overall revamp of the system, I'm completely OK with that. If someone wants to plunk down several hundred dollars on a game I like playing, with a past history where profit windfalls result in earlier/more content releases? (We got SoAs early because one of the costume packs brought in more money than they planned.) I'm good with that.
Ultimately, my "status" in this game (and how much should anyone be worried about status in a game?) is not represented by my vet rewards. To me, that's about how I act with other players, how much I know about the game, and how well I can play it. I do like being able to show I've been here a long time, and I can still do that with the annual badges. I kind of miss the finer granularity of the quarterly badges, but I'll live. -
Quote:In all honestly all of that (in bold) should have been in place BEFORE ANYONE in PS was allowed to open their mouths about what was or wasn't in the various tiers of COH Freedom. Multiple channels (twitter, forums, Facebook, magazines, blogs, etc) shouldn't be used until a clear and consistent message about WHAT exactly is in a promotion (in this case Premium vs. Free vs. VIP) is locked down.Except we should be use to this. Everyone has had something taken out of context or telephone tagged into something else. Everything has been reduced to soundbites.
If someone publishes a study that says X will slightly increase the risk of some disease Y in a small sample but more study needs to be done, the media publishes X causes Y. Next thing you know you have groups of angry parents demanding X to be removed from everything under the sun. And when a later more comprehensive study overturns the first one, people will claim a cover up or that the 2nd study was paid for by the companies that produce X or all scientists are idiots who can't make up their mind.
If it wasn't spelled out on the Freedom website, it was speculation and not fact. That's why I noticed that they now spell out what Going Rogue access means, that Incarnate play isn't and a somewhat better description for the premium features that they once listed as "limited".
If not you get things like this thread/discussion/argument.
Not trying to tell Black Pebble/Second Measure/etc. how to do their jobs . . . but just saying. -
Quote:oooh I never said anyone should not whine or complain nor that i understood those mechanics. My point is with the servers crashing outright recently and the lag, I'd rather they do maintenance as soon and as necessary as possible. You assume that would be the outcome if this additional maintenance wasn't done. My point, you don't know either.
Let the people whine and complain if they so choose. Acting like you understand the basics of the server setup at PS is not helping anything.
RESTATED: IF not doing it would result in the servers ending up in a bad place, then they need to do it when they need to do it. I'm allowed to express that opinion just as much as others are allowed to whine and complain.
If anyone doesn't want to read that counter to the whining and complaining, put me on ignore. -
Quote:That's all that needs to be said. I don't think failing to follow instructions is unique to Keyes. The whole "intuition" thing with the Itrials is kind of counter-intuitive [sic] I think. None of them can be won simply by running through the map and hitting stuff - and that is a notable change from the original content where most stuff with a few exceptions is simply "run through the map, bash stuff until it's all dead and achieve the odd secondary objective."
The problem is that the Devs were begged to provide more variation, but when they do, sometimes they haven't quite got the balance perfect. They are damned if they do, damned if they don't in that sense.
Personally I feel that the end game should be tougher than the regular content - by the time players get to Incarnate stage it's hoped they should have a good feel for game play and an extra challenge is exactly what's needed - doubly so given how much the game's been dumbed down over the last few years.
If it's simply a question of people failing to follow instruction, that indicates to me at least that the other trials would fail as frequently as Keyes but that doesn't seem to be the case - but maybe it's simply the additional complexity that throws people and no easy way to mitigate that pulse which does seem to be excessive
I just think Keyes is unique because it packs so many ridiculously unfun mechanics in one place.
I'd suggest adjustments to it so that more people run it more, but apparently getting more people to run it more is a baaaaaad thing, from what I'm getting from some folks in this thread.
Soooo, now I agree leave it as is. Let it rot.
