Quote:Re-purpose one of the useless unused hero zones to do it.To be fair, red-side does need at least one new zone, just because it has so few I get sick to my head of looking at the same god damn black sand piles in Sharkhead Island. Blue-side may have empty and unused zones, but there are still at least two per level range, and my contacts tend to send me between them so I'm not looking at the same five houses for 10 levels straight.
There is such a thing as TOO MANY zones, but City of Villains is nowhere near that. A new zone might make red-side feel a little bit less like Lemmings Earth, as well. Right now, it feels like someone took multiple zones, cut them down to just the basic landmarks and then slammed them together to form one island, so you have a tiny factory, a tiny town, a tiny Arachnos fort, a tiny graveyard, a tiny dig site, a tiny Freakshow fort and a tiny dock all bunched up together in the same island, even though there's enough material there for at least three zones.
The game doesn't need more zones, it's needs to make better use of the ones already there.
See the Shadow Shard. -
Quote:This is all that needed to be said.Having said that, I would find it hard to believe that if there were a really extended downtime, like on the order of magnitude of days (which happened to Sony last year, remember), they wouldn't try to find some way to compensate players through time or other giveaways. They're not obligated to, but that's just good customer service. Fortunately, they haven't run across such an outage situation and hopefully they won't.

Quote:With that said I don't think there is jack s&*% the devs can do to improve teaming on redside or in Praetoria.Sorry, this is just silly. This is a video game. I don't get what people don't get that if teaming isn't fairly quick and easy, I and some other people are just going to sign off and do something else. All of this talk about just "make a team or its your fault" completely misses the point of what people are talking about. This isn't something anyone needs to feel guilty over. It's no different than showing up at a nightclub and finding no one dancing, and then deciding to go or do something else.
There really is no reason to not simply start blueside and go vigilante. -
Quote:I said this when folks were screaming for more zones for redside.I think I'd be happier seeing more done with those zones before we start adding more real estate.
More zone don't do anything to help with teaming, if it means folks are split across more zones.
If I'm in new villain zone number 1323232 and you're in Mercy, i'm not going to see your "lft" b-cast.
We need to add more content to do (mission doors and/zone events) in zones, not spread out the population even more.
One idea is to have a contact that gives out repeatable mission arcs that deal directly with a zone's overall enemy groups and story. The arc would be 5-10 missions long and would repeatable DAILY. The reward for completing the arc could be a random rare purple or orange recipe+20 reward merits. (The whole too many merits for this or that argument is old and useless since superpacks [which are now FREE for most long term vets] drop reward merits like a street vendor who has a hole in his hotdog stand).
I just think there should be more focus on improving zones like the Shadow Shard so there is even a reason to go there in the first place, versus adding more useless real estate.
We've tried it the "we need more space" way, lets try another. -

Agreed. More one shot groups would be an epic waste of developer time when there are mounds of unused material in the COH universe already.
-
Alternate animations sure.
Other than that leave the old sets alone unless they are mechanically bad.
So no Broadsword does not need anything flashy. ALTERNATE animations sure.
Not everything has to be a dancing staff, sword or gun twirling dancing fool.
Sometimes visually and mechanically simply is cool. -
On some servers there are literally ZERO to 1-2 other people in Praetoria at most times of the day now.

Quote:What difficulty setting do you attempt to solo at?No I just forgot to mention MM's since I dont play them anymore. They are easy to level but are a joke, a bad joke for anything incarnate. Id didnt mention tanks either but they arent hard to solo either.
I was more refering to Blasters, Defenders, controllers, Dominators and Corruptors who get absolutly beat on by the excessive status effects of longbow, arachnos, and cot which make up most of the missions.
Heroes do have Tsoo and Cot, but they arent all that common, and Outcast, family, freaks are really easy mobs.
I dont like soloing redside at all.
The devs seem to think they can put hard content in the same... area as legacy easier content and people will actually choose to do the harder, longer, less rewarding content....
um.... yeah.... NO! -
Quote:The OTHER problem is that one of the key points of Praetoria was being able to start with any AT and go to it's non natural side when you hit 20.Yeah a 1-30 coop zone would do WONDERS.
Something along the lines of a low level crimorea
NO MORE PREATORIA, it will just be ignored and villified like everything else praetoria is, it has too bad a reputation as a player grinder to ever draw players even if it was easy.
Being able to start the game with any AT made Praetoria pointless.

Quote:Cross server teaming I agree would solve everything. (I don't hold my breath of us EVER seeing this.) A new co-op zone might, but NOT if it's low level only. It needs to go from 1-35, meaning we might not see it for a while.I play on virtue and freedom, on blueside I can get a Dib/DFB together any time of day or night, weekend or holiday rain or shine.
The devs cant increase the redside population, but they can make cross server teaming, they can make BETTER coop zones with more draw so players actually go there, they can make it easier to cross side team to increase availible playerage.
ITs not completly a dev or a player problem and both are too blame, and they devs INSITANCE on holding out on cross side markets is one of the big killers of early redside development which redside never recovered from.
BUt this is a problem the devs have to fix, the players dont have the coordination to do it themselves, I mean I could start up a repeat offender style superteam and blitz to 50 in 2 weeks with about 20 other people but that doesnt actually solve anything.
Good looking out though. -
Quote:You mean we need a larger zone like the co-op tutorial? THAT I would like, with that said it would need to go from levels 1-30 at least, because with the two new low level trials you would STILL NEVER see anyone in those zones if they were only low level. Even when not pling low level content is super easy to blast through. Especially for vets.Thats a VERY poor solution as it would leave players who cant or wont switch in even worse of a shape.
we need a solution that doesnt involve spending money by the players.
We need a low level coop zone that is NOT praetoria... for the most part players hate preatoria, they avoid it like the plague, stop ramming it down our throats dev's.
They got a bad taste for it early one when it was way too difficult and they just wont touch it with a 39 1/2 ft pole now.
I havent seen more than a player or two farming ghoul badges in first ward in months.
It is also now faster to simply que or form for those low level trials than it is to even form a pl team in AE.
A low level co-op zone that goes to 30 or 35 would tie nicely in with the next two co-op zones. -
Quote:Then . . . why are you playing redside? If its like first ward, people will gather there for the first month, decide chaining Dfb's and posi's blueside is faster and go back to that.
I hate hate hate the redside story arcs, they are in general positivly punishing for a solo player who isnt a brute, scrapper or stalker.
Even if the population magically increased redside (which isn't going to happen no matter what the devs do), there is still going to be points at which you had to solo. (For instance playing on a holiday, late at night when nearly no one is on.)
with that said, I would love cross server teaming (across SERVERS) also. -

Quote:Glad to see many folks use a PC controller like I do to play the game. Please excuse the mess.
I will repost a cleaner versions later. I like stealing the ideas of others. (I usually do it from another site though.)
Still debating on whether I should get second monitor. The project that I really needed it for was cancelled (I don't have enough time these days), but it'd be nice to go back to a dual screen setup. -
Quote:This, we're talking what a few days or weeks?I think they will learn from this as they have from many things in the past. It might not be seen in action for a bit, but I am sure they are going to be a better company for this experience, the store is not even a year yet there is bound to be growing pains.
I have waited for Staff fighting and my Lunar Knight toon since I8....now is not the time to panic and runaway mad lol.
I think we can wait (begrudgingly) a little longer. -
Quote:I think that's all true, but the creature that all of the DE are spawned from IS a mix of science and magic, even if the babies are science. There's a passing mention of magic in the Hamidon's rarely-read origin story, but in-game, the Devouring Earth is almost always dealt with non-magically. They drop tech salvage, for example. Praetoria keeps them at bay with sonic fences, not runed walls. Scientists work to cure the transformed, not mages. Overall, I feel pretty confident calling it a sciency bio-threat, not a magical one. It's eco-terrorism on an apocalyptic scale, not angry nature spirits.
Edit: Moreover, when I think of the big plot twists in Praetoria, the first things that come to mind are Enriche, the War Walker invasion reveal at the end of the Loyalist line, and interdimensional portals, which are all definitely not magical. -
Quote:Interesting. You learn something new everyday. I actually looked it up after you both said it.Both the Hamidon Pasalimas used dark magic blended with science to transform themselves.
http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Hamidon
The Hamidon was once a zealous scientist named Hamidon Pasalima. Using hideous dark magic and his own genetic genius, he transformed himself into the god-like monster that would spawn the Devouring Earth and threaten the entire world. In a Q&A done by Razer, developer Black Scorpion implied that Hamidon had somehow been able to tap into the Well of The Furies and turned himself into an Incarnate, which could explain his appearance and massive power.
I always thought he was just a Mad scientist gone wrong. lol -

Quote:/SceneOh how I wish we could have heard the other end of that. I can just imagine several of the devs snickering while off vent after hearing him ask that question.
Positron: Listen to this noob!
War Witch: *sighs* Well what do you expect when we outsource this s%$#!
Positron: FFS! Stay with the rest of the trial group noob for brains!
War Wtich: *reaches for her handbag nearby and pulls out a flask* That's it, everytime this guy does something dumb I'm taking a drink.
Positron: O.o That could be a VERY dangerous drinking game.
*cell phone rings*
Positron: Hello? Yes, Andy, we know the guy playing is a noob.
War Witch: *suddenly slams fist on the desk* Good grief this guy works for a publication that covers mmos?! *takes a looooong sip from her flask*
Positron: *into cell phone* Gotta go, I think Melissa's about to get alcohol poisoning. BYE!
