Quote:Well Tenzhi I have to respectfully disagree on this point, I have found much more accepting and nicer communities in the other MMOs I have played. If this community is the largest group of egocentric close-minded individuals you've ever met, I have to assume you haven't been part of many gaming forums. This community is only a mild-mannered polite community relative to other large MMORPG and gaming communities. Perspective is what makes it special.
This isn't to say that I haven't met good people in this game, heck I even met my now wife in this game all those many years ago. I just see such arrogance from so many people here. In other MMOs there are people being mean spirited and rude for the sake of being a troll. Here people are CONVINCED that they are right and put a new level of fervor into their attempts at making everyone agree with them.
But, again, I have to say the best group of people I have ever gamed with, maybe with the exception of my old group on Planet Side, was on this game. They just happened to leave with i13 and since then the only groups I have been able to find end in total nightmares. May be a symptom of Virtue now that I think about it.... -
Quote:Okay late response but I have been half ***** following this topic anyway, this REALLY struck me because it is so mind boggling.Oh, so you were taking a pot shot at the intelligence levels of blueside players. You see, I didn't even consider posters from our game were that critically judgemental of their own community. Of course I'm gonna be wrong but then I'm always wrong >_>
REALLY?! REALLY?! THIS COMMUNITY? The one that for the longest time shouted down PvPers and their concerns? The one that spent this ENTIRE topic arguing over petty matters of perception regardless of any actual evidence to the contrary? The community that involves certain people who are so narrow minded that they can't possible understand that there is an entire other half of the game that is devoted to "bad people" and goes on inane raves ending in emoticons that never contributes anything to the subject at hand? Or how about more pointedly your own treatment of Stalker detractors in the Stalker forums Leo?
This flat out INSANE idea that the community in this game has ever been anything special blows my mind. This COMMUNITY is the largest group of egocentric close minded individuals I have ever met. Nice people? Sure. But so wrapped up in themselves they can't possible accept that anyone ever feels differently than them and WONT let things drop until the other party leaves or just nods their head in agreement.
This community is great as long as you go hand in hand with what ever the popular sentiment is at the time. Now that things like raiding, and gear, and micro-transactions have come out you are starting to get wedges slammed between what was once a cohesive wall of self righteous ignorance. I have usually been on the other side of the fence so this is nothing new to me.
I supported, still do, PvP. I like the new iTrials. I prefer Red Side. I think that micro-transactions are lame. And I think that Stalkers definitely need a buff even though they are my favorite AT.
I don't know if it is the growing age of self entitlement or what but the community in this game has always been very self inflated and was only so cohesive as long as they had a common enemy, I.E. another sub community. Now that the over community has begun to split everyone has turned into a bitter rhetoric spewing introvert. They want there's and to hell with everyone else. -
Okay so taking into account what most people want why not increase the Stalker critical multiplier so that they deal more damage in controlled amounts? This would drastically increase Stalker damage output and still keep the Stalker play style. I agree that Stalkers are okay in survivability, though I do think they could use some more HP to avoid being random chance one hit during trials, but this change would have the potential to increase their damage beyond that of a Scrapper/Brute but still not step on any toes because they still wouldn't be as survivable.
-
Okay let me start by saying my first character was a Stalker. My main now is a Stalker. Stalkers ARE my favorite AT, I have 2 50 Stalkers a Elec/Nin and a Spines/Regen.
I strongly believe that Stalkers need a buff.
1-30 Stalkers are just great, after 30 you hit the point where AS stops taking out LT's and then you have to start scrapping out fights. This is a problem because of the low resist cap for Stalkers on top of their low HP. But really this is a minor piece of the larger problem, that is once Stalkers hit 50. At 50 my IO'ed out Elec/Nin that has tier 3 in all his incarnate slots can run a mission at +0/x8 no problem true, but the issue isn't that Stalkers are weak so much as they don't really excel at any one thing. My Blasters can out burst damage my Stalkers with relative ease and outside of burst damage what does a Stalker bring? And how useful is burst damage in this game really when AoE is king OR you have a prolonged AV fight?
Stalkers aren't very good at any one thing which in a super powered game means that they are under preforming. So keep that as a frame of reference when people voice complains about Stalkers, it isn't that they aren't able to complete the game so to speak, it is that they really have nothing special about them and are in reality a weak Scrapper with the ability to hide. -
Short answer? None.
Long answer? You will always find yourself falling behind a brute in long term combat, the ONLY place that a Stalker shines is in short engagements with single targets. -
I'll give you an example of someone who loves this game but hates it at the same time.
I PvPed exclusively pre-i13 I played PvE as a means to participate in PvP and enjoyed the game a great deal...Well i13 came around and PvPers were told that they didn't matter, my entire global friends list left the game, and I was pissed at how everything went down.
At the same time I had started playing on Virtue, so I continued to play less often but on a different server just for RP/PvE and eventually that became enough for me to stick around.
But while I was still around I was still extremely bitter about how i13 was handled and how PvPers were told that basically we didn't matter to the Devs. I am still absolutely jaded towards the Devs and take everything the say as an empty promise. It didn't help that GR was not worth the money it cost at release. Given what has been released that was tied to it makes it better but I don't approve of paying for promised content that is coming "Soon."
I still enjoy the game and the incarnate stuff has made me happy I stayed, I love it. But that doesn't change the history of this game and what has happened regularly when I give the Devs a bit of trust. -
Quote:Perhaps? You'd have to be pretty dense to not realize that the torn half was the important part...Probably is Shivans/Coming Storm which we have known about for some time.I like the half article about the meteors to the right, though. We all know what happened the last time meteors crashed on Primal Earth... Coming Storm teaser, perhaps?
-
I can't help but draw some parallels to this from past concerns from another sub community so....
You will get solo incarnate stuff around the time they take a look at PvP again. -
Quote:You know what is funny? My ONE character who is shy and avoids people is the only one that has been invited to an RPSG in the last year. You know. I've heard people say that about established groups. That they're huge and hard to get into. I think it's more that some concepts don't lend themselves well to getting involved.
Like a lot of times, it's "my character is quiet or shy" so one has to wonder, what makes you think the others would try to break them of that or get to know them?
That all said, just keep trying to find the group that works for you. It's out there! -
Quote:That is because this game is painfully easy, even our hardest content to date is easy.Nobody in CoH ever implied that I wasn't allowed to have an opinion as a result of my origin, alignment, archetype, or the level of my highest level character.
That in and of itself puts it miles beyond the other MMOs I've experienced.
People in this game just find other petty reasons to tell you off. If you are a PvPer you might as well be a Nazi to a lot of players. On Virtue if you don't appease the "popular" crowd you might as well switch servers.
I have been kicked off teams because and I quote, "I'm sorry but my SG leaders girlfriend doesn't like your wife." I laughed at it but it REALLY put this game in a new light. The community is very strong which is good and a bad thing because if you questions the way of things you get black listed.
My best experience in this game is back before i13 PvPing with the Renegades on test and Freedom, I came to Virtue because hell, I like RP too! I found PvPers much more accepting than RPers. That is not to say I think RPers are malicious, I just see a lot of groups that expect you to put up with leaders that feel like they are gods gift to earth or to suspend disbelief and accept that the leader is more powerful than any canon character and infinitely more powerful than your character can ever hope to be.
This is a rant but I am stressed out for a lot of reasons and I just want to enjoy the game that I used to so much but I can not find community in this game anymore. Everything is insular and everyone avoids you unless their friend introduces you to them. I WANT to RP but I can't find a group to save my life because they are either the HUGE group that forgets the small people or a small group that falls apart in two weeks. -
-
The problem with VirtueVerse is that it NEVER gets cleaned out so we have groups that are literally dead still listed under the recruiting tab, I know because I was apart of one of those groups and everyone has since left. So it is hard to find a group that is still around, still recruiting, and meets your character concept.
I mean, I am not picky about character concepts because I am not loyal to any of my characters. My name sake I ONLY RP with my wife and a couple of close friends but I only play him when they are online. Other than that I have a number of characters that run the range from Hero, to Vigilante, to Villain, to Rogue, and everything in between. I have a couple of free character slots I picked up when they were on sale so I am more than willing to ROLL a new character to play in any group.
Yet I still have trouble finding groups. A lot of the more popular blue side groups I have issue with OOC and so I can't really join them and get into this massive network of connections everyone seems to have. Smaller groups are hard to find because...they are smaller, probably only having between five and twelve active members to begin with. It makes things very difficult when you are looking specifically for a small but dedicated group with which to play. I don't mind big groups but I DO hate the inevitable drama that comes with them. -
I am saddened that people do not recognize the glory of the Imperium of Man! Heretics!
-
Quote:Pretty much. As this game ages groups become more and more insular because there is really no point in recruiting when there are less and less people joining the game, BUT this game has a high retention rate of those who do play and they tend to stay with one SG. So not a lot of people recruit anymore and not a lot of people look anymore, but there are the few of us that are looking and it is really hard to find when you don't have access to a network of friends to point you in the direction of a group that MIGHT be recruiting.Where are people gathering for roleplay. There used to be RPers hanging out in the park in Galaxy almost 24-7, but since I rejoined the game after five years gone, I've never found a single character there.
Did bases send all of the RPers into private supergroup space?
EDIT: You COULD go to Pocket D for RP but...even that is a bunch of cliques sitting around avoiding anyone not apart of their group. -
Quote:See a lot of us on the forums have talked about this issue of SG inactivity and starting up a new one but no one wants the responsibility of running a group. I know that I am graduating college next month and my free time is limited by getting a portfolio together and dealing with exit practicals, but I still am looking for a SG for any one of my many characters. So count me in if someone finally decides to start up a group heh.Well glad to know there are others out there. If no SGs are actively recruiting, we may one day have to gather up all the singles here on the forums who feel left out and make a new SG.
Still, I'd hope some of the more established SGs might be willing to give us all a go, I don't see how having more consenting adults around could be a bad thing. Wait...that sounds like something.....hmmm....never mind.
Cheers. -
To be fair to CoX all MMOs either fall immediately after release or begin a steady decline, CoX has been on a steady decline for years and that is to be expected. So it isn't Doom yet but this game WILL eventually be shut down, it is inevitable. Thing is, they will probably release CoX2 or another similar franchise before then.
What I take from the graph is that, as others have said, GR was not as big as it was spouted as. I completely agree with this assessment as I was one of the people who quit after GR came out and came back for completely unrelated reasons, I would say DESPITE GR. Hell I have still yet to move a character all the way through Praetoria because I find it that bad, I still roll up in Mercy/Atlas.
For those saying the economy is to blame, I suggest doing a bit of research into the entertainment industry and the economy. Typically the entertainment industry is hardly effected by an economic downturn because people ALWAYS want entertainment and honestly MMOs are a great dollar value. It is the same way in my industry, the food industry, that there is always a market no matter how bad the economy is. My point is that if the economy is to blame I think we would see a far sharper drop than what we have. Really the game is showing normal signs for an aging MMO. -
Okay so everyone says that there is merely a threshold to reach in order to get a reward but I have issue with this because...
Dominator: 47 Runs, 20 V. Rare, 23 Rare, 4 Common
Stalker: 58 Runs, 2 V. Rare, 5 Rare, 51 Uncommon
This makes no sense to me at all because WHAT is this RNG set to if the case is merely the threshold. I know without a doubt I "contribute" more on my Dom between debuffs, damage, and control than I do on my Stalker that is merely medicore damage. It isn't a thousand point test but it still gives a pretty weird picture of this RNG you have to admit that. -
Quote:How is that a WoW thing? The exact same thing happens all the time in this game, it is an MMO thing.Yeah totally in the wrong...sounds like he's to busy trying to micro-manage the team and not havin enough fun.
Probably for the best...he'll probably grow up and think he's gods gift to CoH and start his own sg and get some zealot followers...wait this sounds familiar...wonder if he just ported over from WoW... -
Unless entire VGs/SGs move over to Union and continue to snub anyone not apart of their group then hopefully it WILL be different.
-
I second this, I would love to see another RP community for a fresh start. But if it is the same as here on Virtue I might as well not worry about it...
-
Quote:Haha, implying that anyone at Paragon Studios cares enough about PvPers to actually fire someone when they screw over PvPers. You're delusional man!...What?
ITF was before i13, SG bases are a waste of time now especially since they broke the base raiding ability in i13 when they "fixed" the prices for items. The patron fix is irrelevant because it was a stupid system to start with. And day jobs are only for carebare badge-hunters.
So, for only $15 a month, the Devs ignored all comments by the pvpers and basically sent 90%+ of them packing. Which is probably why Castle is no longer working for NCSoft. -
Quote:Okay I see this a lot and it simply isn't true. Every MMO I have played before this one had content patches just like we get. They just use them to supplement a large number of paid expansions as well. I am not bad mouthing CoX but it isn't special in this department and it didn't set that standard. For me the whole Free Issues thing (which are really free mini-expansions) was a ground-breaking first for CoH. They set a precedent that many other MMORPG's that followed it adopted. And now it's really a standard of the industry. 20 issues in 7 years is almost three issues per year. What other MMORPG has had that many expansions in 7 years?
-
Quote:To be fair the selection in those threads is extremely limited, especially the villain one, and half of them have the same theme. Frankly they are terrible sources to find a group because every time I HAVE tried to use them I have never heard back from anyone I was trying to contact.Remember to look through the Superhero/villain group directories. Might be a particular SG you're looking for within that list.
VirtueVerse is also a terrible resource at this point because the recruiting section is full of dead groups that have long since left the game.
It is really tough at this point to get reinserted into the RP scene in this game because everyone sticks to their friends or group they are already playing in and it is hard to even find a group that may be recruiting. -
It is actually kinda disheartening to see that this is basically being used as an ad for GR and everything that came with it...Unless most of the Devs are just new and weren't around pre-issue 18.....
My personal favorite issue was i6 when PvP zones were released and the most fun in any MMO I had ever played began. It was a good run and I made so many friends that I never thought I would leave the game...
Well i13 happened and now all of that is gone and I am only back because the incarnate system is fun enough and I still enjoy the PvE in this game enough to stick around until some future prospects open up. -
Quote:Not only is that a GREAT idea it should be taken into account as a fix for the placate bug. Cause you know...Placate is STILL bugged. It is a roundabout fix and while AS would be easier to do alone doing something like that for all Stalker secondary debuffs might be a little much.A quick thought to assasin strike buffing, kind of making a roundabout from the 'unresistable' avenue.
What if the setup for AS caused the target to apply a non-stacking -res to themselves? This means that the assassin strike hits harder, but the debuff doesn't reveal the stalker because the critter is debuffing themselves, not the stalker. This is, admittedly, stolen from bruising, but I think it makes sense as an indirect way to ensure damage. In addition, it bypasses the purple patch, as the critter is self debuffing, rather than comparing stalker vs. critter values. As higher rank foes gain higher and higher debuffs, it also achieves a desired scaling effects as well. The tougher the foe, the weaker they make themselves.
Just a thought.
