So yeah, hey all. Again. Just thought I'd stick my head in and wave and maybe see some of you in game, where hopefully I might be able to coerce you into helping me unlock this Incarnate thing that's bugging the hell out of me. Otherwise, I'll just be stinking up LB as appears to have been a tradition for the last 6 years or so whenever I get round to playing again.
Oh, and what's going on with travel powers and epic character classes - think I got a travel power at like level 5 or 6 or something on my Crab Spider thing that I couldn't create before since I never bothered getting a villain to level 50. -
Oh White.... your mum is in it, how can I possibly not apply?

Something related to Q/V, after a Lady Grey TF :
8 men group from the start to the end, heroic difficulty, cooperative (6 heroes, 2 villains), one kheldian doing the meat shield in dwarf form (myself, with the peacebringer). Blazing through 5 missions, successfuly completed, few deaths.
I did a mistake here : only counting the number of Q/V bosses that was present, and not the totality of them without considerating their rank.
Also, it is worth noting an orange Q boss will deals around 35-40% of a dwarf hp as total damage. Considering I have 2184 hp in dwarf form (level 50, with accolades and some bonus sets, without dull pain), that's still between 764 to 873 total damage for a level 49 boss.
Warning, mild spoilers may follow about this tf :
First mission : 3 Rikti Q bosses, one void minion and one rikti infantry in the clockworks ambushes.
Second mission : 2 Rikti Q bosses, not sure of one so it may be 3 in fact. None in a rider spawn, but one Q boss was in the nearest spawn to them
Third mission : 3 Riktis Q bosses, and 1 void boss in an ambush after liberating an hostage.
Fourth mission : there are 6 pylons, so if you go directly to the objective, you'll have only 6 rikti spawns to fight. 1 Rikti Q boss in one of them.
Fifth and last mission : stopped counting after 5 Rikti Q bosses, while we skipped half of the map with the help of a stealther teleporting us in front of the final room. Also, there was a cyst as part of an ambush in the final room.
That's just insane for a tf done in heroic
Ok, the maps are big, but still.

Bear in mind that a slight coding bug means that Rikti Quant gunners show as enemies to regular Rikti - leave them alone and they will fight it out amongst themselves. -

One thing with the inherent is no bonus grouping with other khelds. Easy way is make Dwarf = tanker, nova = blaster, human = controller for bonuses when balance checks ever 10 seconds, or can create new ones for them.
[/ QUOTE ]
Damn, that's a great idea. Wish I had though of it
[/ QUOTE ]
Thats a good idea. The one I'd mentioned in the past was PB's getting +acc/+dam (5%/10% or so) for each WS (to represent racial anger) and WS getting +regen for each PB (to represent the leeching of the "pure" Kheld energy). Can't remember the thoughts I had for WS to WS and PB to PB buffs though, but with more and more SG's being Kheld only, some sort of buff would be nice. -
I don't know any nice people, except Jesstar. The rest of you suck.

I understand what you're saying...and I'm trying to suggest a design fix that would allow you to create a more authentic looking tartan...understanding that a more colorful/complex one might not be possible.
I mean, there are all kinds of things I'd like to do in the game with the costumes that I can't...they don't really have any cultural significances for me but they're still frustrating. I agree in essence that if real tartans have a minimum of three colors, they should find a way to accomidate that. I just don't see how they can make a kilt that could accomidate everybody wanting to recreate their own in the game.

I know you're trying to be diplomatic. The problem is that my tartan means alot to me. I come from a well-known clan in Scotland, and my family traces its roots back to the original descendants. Many Americans (those known with Murray, Moray and McMurray) may be able to trace back those same roots, and realise that the Murray clan was important in the northern regions of Scotland during the Jacobite uprising.
It's purely selfish, I know, but tartans are more than one main colour with a stripe. They respresent families dating back centuries, and pride in those families.
[/ QUOTE ]
sorry to put this bluntly... but the game does not revolve around you, your family, or even scottish people at all. You didn't have kilts before, now you have them. They Devs put a huge amount of time giving us these rewards... which they never had to do. Don't cry because you can't make it the exact amount of stripes or colors that so important to YOU and only YOU.
[/ QUOTE ]
You make my own point for me - they didn't have to do it. Where I came from though, if you are going to do something, you do it right. -

My tartan is red, green, blue and black. Work that one out from 2 colours with shading.
I appreciate that the majority of players are from the USA, and care little for (or are somewhat ignorant of) real clan markings. Some of us celtic players take it somewhat seriously though - clan markings are as readily identifiable as gang colours, and serve the same purpose - they show alliegence, represent the honour of the clan, and declare the age of the wearer's family.
<edit> Just to show the point, the middle tartan is my families traditional tartan; http://www.lindaclifford.com/Murray.html

I'd like to bring up a small point. As a Scotsman myself (probably one of the tiny number that play) I really looked forward to the kilts. I was so looking forward to creating a kilt wearing Claymore wielding toon. Now I see that the kilts are so genericised that they actually have no representation of any tartan in existence. There are no tartans currently in use with less than 3 colours, but we only get to choose two. Even the most basic Blackwatch tartan - www.myspace.com/hakikev - has 3 colours.
I understand the technical limitations of 2 colours per costume piece, but if you can't do something properly, why do it at all? -

In the City of Villains Beta, the Brute Auto Power "Fury" was called "Rage." This was quickly changed due to the confusion between the Brute Inhearent and the Super Strength Click.

There I thought it was because World of Warcraft Warriors have an inherent called "Rage" which works in an identical manner. CoH may have been first, but CoV was after WoW's release. -

The devs didn't expect people to reroll because they didn't expect people to care about badges as much as people do. Why people keep trying to apply some kind of "motive" or "mistake" to the devs kill me, when it is not rooted in any kind of reality other than the egocentric "I want Isolator so I'm right by definition" one.
[/ QUOTE ]
Which is just as egocentric as the position held by the people who didn't want Isolator outside of OUtbreak and hold their PoV as reality.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not so much. Those who don't want Isolator outwith Outbreak aren't asking the devs to change something. Each and every person who is demanding Isolator after they leave the Tutorial area is, in effect, demanding that the devs change the game to suit only a minority of people. -
[ QUOTE ]
So by your logic a vast subset of badges are Easter Eggs? (Easter Egg = badge with no progress bar or entry in the badge tab?) Define them how you will... but to be clear I don't consider any badge in this game to be an Easter Egg and thus don't think any of them are justified to be limited by location based on 'Easter Egg ness'.
[/ QUOTE ]
You don't consider them to be such. However, until such times as your personal opinion becomes the "majority" view through the game, I also will consider that several badges are considered Easter Eggs. Isolator being a major one. You have absolutely no right to earn this badge - at least be grateful you are given the opportunity to get it after such times as you should.
Suck it up. If you don't like it, I hear that WoW is always looking for new whiners. -
Just had a thought. As well as villain griefing, the "anti-Isolator" people may grief as well. There may be hordes of people who don't hink this badge should be awarded hopping around bumping off the poor little single spawned Contaminated, just to make their point. Good luck ever getting it if that happens.

As for the villains wanting another pop at Jail Bird - everyone knew about Jail Bird when CoV went live. The badge had been in there during Beta... I wasn't even involved in any part of the beta testing, and knew where it was. On day 1 of the CoV public release I got the badge. This makes the Jail Bird example a load of crap - it was available for months before the game even went live.
[/ QUOTE ]
Everyone knew about Jailbird? Where's your indication that badges even exist in the CoV tutorial for those people who had never played CoH, but thought being a Villain sounded cool?
[/ QUOTE ]
Whether they had the knowledge of the badge is immaterial. The badge was still there. It had been discussed openly since beta. But you're saying that badges don't exist in the tutorial for new players? It looks like that was simply a badly worded statement, so I will treat it as such.
New CoH players may not know about Isolator. I certainly didn't when I started. It was my second main toon who became my main badger, using the information I had gleaned form getting one toon up to 50 already. Was I someone who was ranting and raving about getting Isolator? No, I wasn't. I rolled a new toon and went on my way. Those people who had toons pre-I2, as has been stated many times, could have re-rolled. Their choice not to, but still the complaints come in. They made a choice not to re-roll for a badge which, by the complaints, is obviously of game-breaking importance to them. The devs are offering that badge now, but making it difficult. Big deal. Like I said, no sympathy at all for them. If they truly thought it was that big a deal they would have re-rolled.
If I came to CoV as a new player, and decided to collect badges, I certainly wouldn't do it on my very first character - there is too much scope for missing the unlockable contacts. As a brand new player, I wouldn't even know what badges were. However, I would learn enough that my second toon would get Jail Bird, and be able to pace my character progression to ensure that I could fulfil my requirements for unlockable contacts. People who Badgered in CoV right from day 1 knew of the existence of badges already, and (if they had even the slightest ability to read) knew that Jail Bird was available in the first area. -
As a Badger who missed the Celebrant badge by 3 hours on my main badger toon (I petitioned for my character creation date), and who never has a chance to get the Hallowe'en event and Winterlord badges, I have no sympathy _at all_ for those people whining about how difficult Isolator is going to be.
Maybe if they make all the Hallowe'en mobs available (doubtful, since they are all over Croatoa now), and give another chance at Frozen Fury (I have Cold Warrior), I may have the tiniest degree of sympathy - although I doubt it.
As for the villains wanting another pop at Jail Bird - everyone knew about Jail Bird when CoV went live. The badge had been in there during Beta... I wasn't even involved in any part of the beta testing, and knew where it was. On day 1 of the CoV public release I got the badge. Not bad general advice. You missed the Warshade hold power Gravity Well from your list though.
[/ QUOTE ]
Gravity Well is an immobilize not a hold, at least thats what it's tagged as in the power list. Therefore it shouldn't be on the list.
[/ QUOTE ]
Gravity Well is definitely a hold. If the power text says different, you're playing a different game from me. You can then go and explain to all those dead Void Hunters that I didn't, in fact, hold them - they were merely immobilised, and could have shot me back anytime.

Since my warshade is only level 9 I believe, this is all I had to go by, sorry that the in game text description is inaccurate.

The full power description differs from the hover text - when you look at the power selections, it definitely says hold. -

Did you know....
....Pre-I5, SR Scrappers were much sought after for tanking psionic AVs if Stone Tanks weren't available. Even more so in I3 when Permaluding existed.
...with the global defence changes, SR Scrappers somehow find it easier to dodge an exploding bomb than a punch to the face.
....Kheldians were introduced with Scrapper level HP, but suffered a natural 30% resistance penalty. The difference was meant to be made up by teaming. This was changed so that Kheldians could do at least some soloing.
...Warshades are the only AT in the game that can, using only their own powers and no inspirations, hit their accuracy, damage and resistance caps, all at the same time.
....Some of us are pretty miffed that we couldn't register accounts for CoH until several months after release as we lived outwith the USA/Canada, and can't get the Hallowe'en event badges, yet people who had the privilege of being here at the start think they are somehow entitled to get Isolator. -

"Right" is a subjective term. What might be "right" to you, may not be "right" in my opinion. When it comes to a online gaming, "right" is irrelevant, only what is and is not allowable.
If I go to Warburg, and all I want to do is launch the missile, I have no desire to engage any other players, is it "right" for someone to attack me anyways?
If I go to Bloody Bay, and all I want to do is collect the meteor shards, is it "right" for another player to attack me?
If I go to Siren's Call, and only want to engage mobs in Hot Spot battles, and never attack another player, is it "right" to be attacked by one?
The answer to all of the above questions is contained in Cuppa's earlier post.
Thing is, "right" is a matter of personal interpretation. I don't think it's "right", for example, for people to be named things like "Chicken McNuggets", "FattyBlasterBoi" or "IRHeeler" in game. I don't think it's "right" for 8 different people to spam broadcast that they are all LFT when they could just join up and form a team themselves. There are many things which we each might individually consider to not be "right"... but none of that matters.
What DOES matter is if it is "allowed". The devs have stated that attacking someone, who is in a PVP zone, even if they don't WANT to be attacked, is allowed. Even if they are claiming exemption because they are RPing. Even if they are fighting a group of mobs. The devs have also stated that getting mobs to do your dirty work for you, be it bringing the mobs to you, or even bringing you to the mobs (like TPing you, or pulling you), is allowed.
If you do not want other players to have the opportunity to be able to cause you to die, regardless of HOW they cause it, then your only option is to stay out of the PVP zones, it's really that simple.

Comments about warm cooking areas, and vacating them if it's too toasty for you spring to mind. I sympathise to a point - I was hunting Blue Inks in SC, however at least I made arrangements that if I was bounty, if a villain told me, they could gank me no worries. This is you guys trying to turn SC into your own social club to the exclusion of other paying customers. -
Interestingly, the 2 authors which sprung to my mind reading this were Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett. It does come across as very British humour.

Gang,
Sorry that I've been out of touch for the past week. I spent most of the time with my family back East. My brother is set to deploy in Iraq in just a few days so I wanted to make sure that I saw him off right! He's a hero of mine, and one of the game's most committed players. I can't speak highly enough of my brother and all that he's done for this country.

After finding out someone I went to school with was shot down and killed by an American helicopter, I kinda lost alot of faith in some things. I won't go into it too much, since most people here are American, and don't like to hear about the knockon effects that the White House decisions on oil pricing have worldwide.
Thanks for updating though, States. I hope that you will be back around more often and keep us up to date. You always answer my PM's promptly, and, as much as I would prefer more details sometimes, at least I hear back. That's more than can be said for many other games developers. Keep up the good work!
