Control is active defense; controlled mobs don't shoot at you and if they're not shooting at you then they can't hit you.... even softcapped you get hit sometimes.
Local Man's guides are very well written fwiw; you might learn something if you were to take a look at the "way out dated" -

List there "Old School"... it's great and all that you are so awesome and want to educate the rest of us, but a bit of defense never hurt anyone, and LEAST of all made it harder to be in melee. Hell, going back to I-2/I-3 my original Mind/Kin used to live in Melee and ran at a pretty high difficulty (back before you could set the # heroes equiv), before containment and waaaaay before IO's existed. Control is Pro-Active defense. Used correctly it makes actual defense/resistance not all that much of a factor.
To be clear, I'm not attacking you or your opinion, but if you haven't played a lot of high level controller builds, is it possible that you're coming from a Tank/Scrapper/Brute/Stalker type background? If so, you might be seeing things through that experience and be unaware of the capabilities of a well built controller in the hands of as skilled controller player.

You do make sense, I'm a Corruptorist at heart and not big into Controllers so I do see the point you're trying to make. I've also seen tons of poorly built trollers (and corrs for that matter... hmm) faceplant using those tactics. -
Obviously controlling and debuffing the spawn goes along way, I just don't believe it's enough to skip building some actual survival specs into a build. Especially a set like poison that's completly lacking in self buffs or heals.

No, I did in fact catch that. My opinion still stands. But that's a difference in playstyle and opinion. A single hit gets through and thanks to all the great self buffs and survivability of poison and the build you won't faceplant right. Doubtful.

I was mainly refering to the abcense of actual survivability outside the debuffs, defense, resistance ect. I haven't looked at this in mids but I don't have to in order to see that lack of survivabikity. Yes I play my squishies in melee, but the have a solid measure of defense and resistance to support the agressive playstyle.

I'm a Corr guy, and we don't have Ice Mastery to softcap s/l, with mace mastery it's an easy choice to have tactics and pic up Focused Acc from mace for perma 22+%, i'm not near mids so I'm unsure if that's a choice available to blasters. But if it is, problem solved.

Generally speaking for armor sets, if it crashes and I have to pause and spend precious seconds getting my blue/green bars back up and turning my toggles back on then I consider it 100% skipable. If you play at a slower less pedal to the floor speed while you play and have timethen by all means. However when there's mobs available to be in the middle of that's where I want to be, not recovering.

Yup, read that whole thread just now. I guess if "Statistically impossible" doesn't turn on any light bulbs nothing else will so I won't bother. Good luck with your gaming "experiance", I hope you can manage to get your head on straight at some point.
I'd recommend Dark or Elec armor since you want pure resistanceand still have some measure of survivability.
I'm sorry on behalf of Hide and Shadow Dweller from Dark Armor, how dare they have defense, it's absurd! I will pm the devs and try to get that fixed right away. -
Is it also not showing up in your combat attribules? Buff bars can be glitch, check you comvat attributes next time you use it.
With EA you should be able to softcap Smashing, Lethal, Fire, Cold, Energy and Neg Energy easily. It's all typed defense and no positionals. -

As with most toons in this game, it's going to be as good as you build it and play it. I'd recommend a Brute instead of a Tank however if you are going to focus on solo play. I havn't played an SO character since IOs and Sets came out, but I do have an Elec/DM Tank that's IO'd to the teeth, 90% res to s/l/e/f/c as well as Psi, and 74+% to neg, softcap'd s/l defense and almost 3k hp. So with the right build I imagineeven with only SOs you'll be pretty solid depending on what you plan on soloing/what level and difficulty.

It's like running a marathon, you want to find that exact level of "falling" forward without falling on your face or stopping to where you can continue on for as long as possible.
If you find yourself pausing between mobs due to either your playstyle, low HP, or a slow team then brutes probably aren't the best fit. -

I've got this totally rad idea that will fix the problem here!
So for 8 days, just 8 days, pretend your character is actually you, a guy or girl sitting behind a computer trying to make his/her character better. (You can go on hide on said character if you'd like to hide from the "shame" of stepping out of character to make your build better, maybe even make a plain costume that looks like you!) And then, once you've got that covered you can proceed to do the tips/whatnot needed to get to redside (Obviously it's not your character doing this, he's on vacation in Mexico right?) Once you get to redside, do that patron arc, get the power and then do your tip missions to become a hero again.
And then BAM, all the sudden your character comes back from vacation and WOW he found a shiny rock or whatever at the train station that gave him this cool power that makes him more powerful! It's crazy I know, I would have never guess something like the above was even imaginable. It's pure science fiction! Inconceivable!
Obviously I'm not a role player, so take all that with a grain of salt if you must.

I don't use Smite in my attack Chain unless exempt (obviously), replaced with Fire Blast, therefore it's just a set mule unfortunately. End heavy without a doubt, but it's perfectly manageable so far through my various stress tests thanks to DC.
