    Hopefully it helps.
  2. I'm returning to the game after about a year or so away, and have been playing my lvl 50's more with the new incarnate stuff. So now I'm wanting to update my characters to take advantage of the new changes.

This time it's my MA/SR scrapper, my oldest character and my first 50.

Here is what he is now:

Note: I've only purchased one of the purples, the others all dropped randomly over the course of a couple of years of play.

I also have an Armageddon recipe that dropped a few days ago, if I get a few more I'll probably start slotting them into the Dragon tail.

What do you think? A good upgrade, or am I overlooking something?
  3. Not really, but then I'm probably one of the people "pressuring" others to play their 50's.

I've got about 8 lvl 50's, four of which I played semi-regularly, as well about 2 dozen toons of various levels.

I like doing TF's and SF's, so this has been an excuse to cycle through them with all my lvl 50's, and when the WST is a lower level TF/SF I start playing it with my lower level toons after my 50's have gotten their Notices.

Now i'm interested in properly IO'ing out some of the 50's that I basically stopped playing after they hit 50.

I suspect that it will go back to something more "normal" after people have gotten their favorite 50's slotted with the Alpha Ultra Rare, with spikes of "lvl 50 only" play as the new slots become available.
  4. The blue patches don't bother me, they are easily avoidable unless you run into someone elses patch without realizing it.

What annoys me about Apex (and it's not a huge annoyance) is the sewer section in the first mission with the rikti pylons protected by Toxic spewing tentacles.

They seem to ignore defenses and hit my /SR and /Shield character where they are weakest - Toxic resistance.

It felt a lot like a sewer run on a 1st level toon.

  6. I built for melee because...well basically because I'm only used to looking for positional defenses, due to my experiences with my /SR and /SD toons.

I did check the guides and looked for a few builds, but the guides for DA all seem to date from i9 and don't factor in IO sets, so they weren't much use, and I didn't find any decent builds from my brief search.

Thanks for posting the build Werner. I don't think I would have thought to do it that way. It's a very tight build.

I'm not sure I like having my Melee defense that low until I make my first attack, but it looks like it's the way to go if I want a DA toon that plays how I'm used to playing my scrappers - jump into a spawn and start swinging.
  7. Don't worry, I wasn't upset or anything.

I'm usually on TF/SF teams, and loaded up with buffs, but you still make a good point.

As a scrapper you always have the urge to go charge into a different spawn or just strike out on your own, so it's still a good idea for me to have Parry as an option when I need it.

(I used to solo a lot, most of this guys levels were gained solo, but have found that I prefer the craziness of PuG TF's. Sometimes it's a steamroller, sometimes you are laughing at how bad your team is. I just don't want to be the guy the others are laughing at. )

I'll take your advice, and redo the build. Probably work out a way to take out Slice and adjust the levels at which I take certain powers so I can take Parry instead.

I'm aiming for the attack chain mentioned here, assuming it's still feasible: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...t=attack+chain

Dark Regeneration is making me sad. Oppressive Gloom might do more damage to you than it prevents since your melee defense is soft capped. You'll want to choose an alpha slot - I'm thinking Cardiac given your high endurance usage compared to recovery. Hit points are good, at least if you have or pick up the accolades. I don't like seeing Gaussian in Build Up, but I understand that slots are tight, and that it might be difficult to move the set to Tactics where it "belongs". Accuracy on Hack is lower than I'd want, which is to say lower than 95% against +4s. Moving the Gaussian set, if possible, would solve that. Let's see, you could drop the extra slot from Soul Transfer, put two recharges in Build Up, and the Gaussian set in Tactics. Build Up would recharge faster for more damage, you'd have a better chance to hit tough enemies, and your endurance usage would go down. Not that endurance usage is likely to matter if you get the Cardiac Core Paragon alpha boost. I really wouldn't want to make do with only mag 4 knockback protection, though I suppose it's good enough most of the time.
Thank you Werner, that is exactly the kind of input I'm looking for. I haven't IO'd out a high level melee character in a couple of years, and I'm not up on the more subtle details of IO sets.

My last few were a MA/SR scrapper, a DM/Shield Brute, and a DM/Stone brute, which are all a fair bit different than BS/DA.

    Such useful and constructive input.

Somehow I managed to get him to 50 without parry and using a fairly poor build, so it's obviously not absolutely necessary.

I may still end up using Parry in the final build, but I'd rather avoid it. It only gives a defense bonus against melee and lethal - which of course is what you need against council, but they aren't the only opponents I plan on fighting.
  10. I'm dusting off an old Broadsword/Dark Armor scrapper of mine that I'd retired. I had no idea how to slot a high level scrapper at the time, and never made him that durable.

Now I want to respec him and IO him out properly. This is my first pass with Mids.

Note: I'm deliberately not using Parry, as I want him to have a high damage attack chain as his standard. I plan on using purple inspirations to counter defense debuff opponents. I mainly to Task Forces and solo stuff like Tip's or Badge missions.

I have two Absolute Amazements in his Soul Transfer power because I happen to have those IO's that aren't being used.

  11. The store choked on my credit card info 3 times in a row, so I used the PayPal option instead, and it worked the first time.

I'm not usually one to complain about issues with the software, but enabled your customers to give you money seems like one of the things you would want to make sure you get right. :/
  12. _Caliban

    Solo Friendly

/SR is very solo friendly at higher levels, once you soft cap the defenses so that you no longer need Elude. I don't have Aid Self on my MA/SR scrapper, green insp and his IO set regen bonuses are more than enough to keep him going non-stop.

But probably the best solo character out of my personal stable of characters is my DM/SD brute (even more so than my DM/Stone Brute). DM gives you multiple AoE attacks, self heals, endurance recovery, and self buffs built into the attacks, and Shield Defense gives you excellent defenses and decent resists, plus Shield Charge for another high damage attack in your arsenal.

On what do you base this supposition?

And I'm not talking about a "machine", but an Artificial Intelligence, which is more about software than hardware, (or at least as much about hardware as a human is about their body and organs).

Our flesh doesn't make us special, it's the "special spark" (as you call it) that does. Our bodies are nothing more than organic machines, after all. It's the spark of intelligence, the self awareness, the soul that makes us different.

Assuming that a true AI is possible at all (and it may not be, only time will tell), I see no reason to assume that it would not have that "special spark" just like we do.

Assuming that a machine intelligence will automatically be soulless and can never be a real person is just as baseless an assumption as Dechs assuming that the AI's are inevitable, and will be superior caretakers for humanity when they arrive.

So, it's not whether someone is intelligent or has emotions, but whether or not they are "alive" that makes them a "real person".

I wasn't aware that breathing and circulating blood were more important than talking or feeling when it comes to ethical and moral considerations.

That seems...rather limited and short sighted to me.

If an AI truly is a sapient entity, then it would have the same universal rights you have been talking about all thread, and enslaving it would be as bad as enslaving any other person.

If it's "just a machine with a clever computer" then it's not an AI.

Being "alive" in the same manner that we are doesn't enter into it.

You seem to have a lot of faith in this concept of an AI that will inevetiably take over the job of governing us and then take care of our every want and need.

You are welcome to your beliefs, but this sounds much like every other explanation of religion and heaven to me. Right down to the faith in a specific outcome without proof or concrete evidence.

AI is a possibility, not an inevitablity. And if it comes to pass, it is not certain that it will be impartial, or that will be capable of (or even interested in) taking care of every aspect of our lives as you propose.

Besides, is creating an intelligence who caters to your every need really anything more than a new form of slavery?
  19. Only time I've used a sniper attack is for long range pulling, or on one defender, as a way to solo the bunker defenses in Bloody Bay (Moonbeam let's you snipe the missile turrets without aggroing them) when getting a Shivan.

Other than that, they are mainly useful for sets or if you don't anything better to take.

Meh. I have a damn good SD character. Took me 1-2 hours to design. It just tooks the skill to download Mids and plug in different IO's until I got the numbers I wanted.

It doesn't take "skill" to acquire the IO's or other "materials" needed, just patience.

I love it when people spout nonsense like this. "Those kinda mistakes" happen all the time in business, and are often tolerated. I see it all the time, and I work at one of the largest trucking companies in America.

You fix it and try to do better next time. Sometimes someone is disciplined or loses their job, depending on the reason that the mistake occured, how much it cost the company, and how public it was, but quite often they are just told "do better next time" and nothing more is said.

On the subject at hand, I've been certain that Shield Charge was going to get a nerf as soon as I saw a shield toon in action. (Your most damaging attack should not come from your defensive powers, IMO.) I'm just surprised it took this long for the devs to notice.

I'm just glad that I got my shield brute leveled up an IO'd out in time to enjoy the "overpoweredness" for once. Even with reduced damage for SC (if that is what they eventually decide) it is still a great set and SC will still do a lot of damage.
  22. This is a corruptor build I'm tinkering with - currently it's strong point is a 35% ranged def, and a lot of debuffs.

  23. I've bought several of the specialty IO's with Merits - usually the LoTG + Recharge, the various healing +Recovery and +Regen IO's, and +Stealth IO's.

Everything else I buy with influence or tickets.

Getting merits quickly is very easy blue-side, especially with all the lower level TF's that are being run all the time. Redside the easy merit acquisition doesn't take off until you are lvl 35+ (unless you feel like soloing Oro arcs).

Most of what I do is TF's, I don't solo much anymore. That may be why it seems easier to get the pricey IO's with merits these days. I can get 200+ merits in a weekend if I feel like it (or a day if I do nothing else).
  24. This is an alternate build that focuses more on Melee defense (38%) and recharge.
