Thanks for all of the advice. Created my EleM/Ninja Stalker last night and levelled him to 6. Looking forward to getting to the big hitters.

I wanted to make a /Pain Corruptor and I decided to pair it with Archery...not for any specific synergy, but because I've been wanting to try the set and it fit thematically with my character.
/Pain has been a lot of fun on teams so far, but Archery seems underwhelming. I'm at level 17 and I have Aimed Shot, Fistful, and Blazing Arrow and I'm about to pick up Explosive Arrow. The powers so far seem to have (at least visually) long activation times and ho-hum damage. Fistful of Arrows seems like a pretty good cone, but the single target powers seem very "meh". I'm only using DOs so far, but Archery just seems to pale in comparison with the other sets I've tried.
I know that Rain of Arrows gets a lot of praise. Can I assume that the set picks up significantly at 32?
Thanks! -
I'm at 23 now and this guy really is an AE machine. What sliders are you all using at that point on solo missions? I'm using +6 (number of enemies) but -1 (difficulty). I can kill plenty fast, but I seem to take a beating during the pull. I did end up going fly/hover instead of SS/Hasten...would that help? Once I have them all back to a corner, I'm fine.
Also, is there a trick to pulling multiple groups at once? I can't seem to do this reliable. One group either wanders off or I get destroyed during the gathering. I guess SS might help with all of this? -
I'm convinced...I'm going to roll a ElecM/Ninja stalker. I've never played a Stalker, so it should be interesting.

Thanks for the advice. I have read your excellent guide, Call_Me_Awesome. My only concern is that you advise having only 1 attack until level 4 and only 2 until level 10. Are you assuming being teamed right from level 1? I find that I often have trouble finding teams for the first few levels and resort to soloing and having so few attacks seems like it would slow things down significantly. Of course, being on a team, the lack of attacks is less of an issue. Care to elaborate? (I have never played a tanker, though, so my experience is with other ATs)
Thanks for your comments, Ironblade. I did indeed make the mistake of saying Mace/Invuln, lol. Every other AT i've ever played has their attack set listed first...it is a tough habit to break. -
Fantastic, thanks! And as to what I'm going to do with the character...probably just play to 50. I've never played a villain past 25 or so, so I guess I just want to slot for whatever will help my character the most on the journey.

Thanks very much for the advice. Are there sets that are only available at level 50? Or are all sets available earlier but not as powerful? Is mids the best way to see what kind of stuff is available?
-
When do most players start slotting sets? I don't know a whole lot about them. Is it something that most wait until 50 to do? Or is it something to start research in the 30s? Also, what is the standard slotting practice these days? Slot DOs until 22 and then slot IOs after that? Feel free to point me to a guide or topic where this has already been answered...I didn't see any recent guides in the guide section, though, and searching for "sets", IOs, etc. doesn't seem to get me anywhere.
Thanks! -
Thanks so much for the tips! I knew I had to be missing something!

Thanks, everyone, for the info. I am definitely on board. I think I may roll a Mace/Invul tanker. Invulerability seems to be a pretty hard set from the talk I've seen on the forums. Can anyone comment on the combo?
Thanks! -
Thanks for the advice. I was surprised to see so many votes for Stalker. I thought they'd be a bit squishy for such an AE set. That isn't the case, I guess?

I've been playing red-side exclusively for a while now, but I decided to give give heroes another shot. I'm at level 5 in Atlas Park and I've got a mission in Galaxy City. Is there an easier/quicker way to get there other than going through Perez Park? Is there some quick-travel system to make getting around easier? I'm not enjoying how spread out early missions seem to be on this side, so far.

Hi Everyone,
I've been playing mostly red-side where most claim that Brutes aren't tanks and, indeed, tanks aren't needed. Why is this different blue-side? Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of being the guy soaking up all of the damage and aggro as I've played my share of EQ 1 and 2 and WoW. I see lots of talk on the scrapper forums about soloing 4 AVs at once, though, and I know that scrappers deal out more damage. So, I assume that tanks are able to take even more punishment. Are tanks an integral part of teams, blue-side? How much less damage do they put out than scrappers? Is the loss in damage worth the extra beefiness? Thanks in advance for enlightening a blue-side noob. -
Hi Everyone,
I'm interested in the cool looking AE Electric Melee powers and I've decided to build one. However, I'm not sure what kind of toon to make. Which would you say that ElM works well on? I'm not too familiar with Tankers or Scrappers. Any thoughts?
Thanks! -
Thanks for the info, everyone. That helps!

Thanks for the advice, guys. I think I am going to go SS for now. The more I think about it, the more I want hasten, so I'm already in the pool anyway. I might reconsider later in my career, but for now, I think I'll go with SS. Thanks for all of the opinions!

Suichiro's and Silas' awesome guides have inspired me to create a fire/dark corruptor. Is Super Speed going to be more helpful as a travel power than the others for this particular build thanks to the added stealth component? Conceptually, flight fits my character better, but I'm not sure I'm willing to sacrifice performance for concept. Thoughts?

Most of the guides on this forum are helpfully labelled with the Issue to which they apply. Many of the guides are very old, however. How old can a guide be before the information contained therein becomes outdated? Can I assume that, say, anything I12 or newer is still valid? Thanks!

At first I liked groups like the Outcasts having more varitey of powers, but now they are just too tough. Low level players don't have the powers at that point to deal with them. This and the +1 mission problem are being worked on, but man, it can't come soon enough. Missions are just plain painful right now. Up until this point, I've been extremely happy with Cryptic, but Issue 2 is a mess. I've never seen an update with so many bugs. I can't help but wonder how something like this happened when it was on test for a while.

I don't think anyone is being forced to group. Just about any blaster or scrapper can solo in CoH way better than any class in any other MMORPG. Are changes coming that will make grouping more appealing? God, I hope so. It is a multiplayer game, after all, and there needs to be an incentive to group. But I don't see how that affects your ability to solo. Obviously, challenges completed by a group are going to offer better rewards. If soloing was the best way to go, why would anyone group?
So no, your ability to solo isn't going away. You simply aren't going to (hopefully) get the best experience and rewards doing so, which is exactly how it should be. -
I wondered when this was coming. Making modifications to the client in most games like this is a serious no-no.
