  1. First off, welcome to the forums!

Secondly, a search would probably have benefited you, since a number of these have been suggested before. However, since you're new, I'll go through them individually:

    1) Sports pack: Skateboards are unlikely to happen, but possible, since it could basically be a skin change for the Prestige Power Slide. Not sure how much work this would be, but would be tough to work in with power animations, unless it was just a power effect, and not an actual item.

    2) Creature Pack: Could be potentially a LOT of work, depending on how you imagine this to work with power animations. Would you be able to attack while walking on all fours, or would you have to stand first? Wall crawling is VERY unlikely to happen, since it requires the collision engine to work in a way that it can't currently support.

    3) Droid Pack: Unlikely, since it basically necessitates a new skeleton be created, and every animation in the game to be created anew for the new skeleton.
  2. In short, no. Using only the color combination is not going to get you in trouble.

Now, if you combine that with a similar name or backstory, THAT could get you in trouble. But a color combo won't be enough.
  3. I think that you are severely understating the complications that this would cause. I am going to point out a few specific items where this comes up.

    Quote:
There are many animations that are already there in game that could be recycled to the player version, such as knock-back, knock down, jump, the ranged attack animations, forearm slash attacks, the 'look at me I'm Mezzed' stumble, and the death animation, just to name the few I can think of. The rig, or 'skeleton' of the Tarantula is there already, so it's not as if the entire thing has to be invented from scratch. To be certain, there are considerable complications in having a toon that is not a humanoid biped, but this was true to a lesser extent for the Crab Spider model when it was made into a VEAT - Lots of joints there that had to be animated to convincingly react and move even when the toon wasn't specifically using them for anything.
Right now, each spider type has only a few attacks. To make them a VEAT, you'd need to add considerably to their attack repertoire. These would all have to be new animations created for each attack that you give them. Having a single ranged attack animation isn't good enough, if you're trying to normalize the Tarantula ranged attacks with other ATs that have similar powers. If the current Tarantula blast animation is only 1 second long, but you're giving them an attack that normally takes 1.5 seconds to animate, then you need to create a new animation that takes 1.5 seconds to work on the Tarantula.

    Quote:
Complications and downsides: How do you give them pool power, travel power, and temp power options? Unfortunately, there are just some things that a Tarantula would not be able to do, given the physical limitations of the creature's form. Lots of impractical powers would just have to be grayed out; almost anything that requires hands for instance. Same for many emotes like /e research, and /e teabag. I'm not sure, but I'm guessing that there is some precedent for this on certain player forms, such as Granite - There is no jumping in Granite, no matter how much you hit the space-bar. Squid form Khelds are also limited in some of the things they can do, aren't they? One option is to just give the player model hands - Some kind of manipulative extremity that folds out or deploys when someone is getting newspaper missions or using the invention worktables. Likely this entails a great deal of complication for the animation artists and riggers, so probably not.
And here is the biggest problem. Right now, we only have two ATs that can't use certain power pools - Peacebringers and Warshades - and those get called out enough as it is for not having that ability. Adding in Tarantulas as a VEAT would mean that even more power pools would be inaccessible to them. Giving them some sort of hand that folds out while doing certain things means even more animation time for these things. Let alone the animations that would need to be done just to get the 'normal' power pool animations to work on them. Everything from Tough to Hasten would all need new animations for this EAT.

    BLEAH.
There ARE DO stores, they just aren't origin-specific. Thus, in CoV and CoH, you can sell to the origin-specific store and get better value for them. In CoP, this is not the case.

But hey, having the latest version of Mid's, versus one that is about two issues old, is always a good thing. He couldn't make a character on that that used the new powersets, for instance.

So, the answer is no. Sorry!

[edit: To be clear, even with 1.6 you couldn't get those values in PvE.]
Still, my solution fixed it. Therefore, I win!
  7. When I open your build, I see 90% S/L, 31.1% E/NE, 32.3% C/F Resistance. Toxic: 31.1%, and Psi is 0%. So, it might be that you're using an older version of Mid's?

Edit -> Yup, you're using version 1.6 something. The current version is 1.8. Remove the current version, and download the latest.
  8. If you can keep the enemies in the AoE, then it's a great power. However, enemies will try to run out of the area. As a /Fire Tanker, you have few mitigation tools to help you keep the enemies in the AoE. However, Ice Storm does have a slight -runspeed effect, and combined with the -speed of Chilling Embrace, it should slow the enemies down enough to do a lot of damage to them.

Still, if you're looking for a thematic APP to take on your Tank, and to help deal more AoE damage, then the Fire APP is likely better. Fireball does less potential damage, but is up much faster, doing more damage over time, usually.
  9. I do like how you bring up certain points that would need to be addressed, and then you don't address them.

    Yes, this could be cool.

However, how do you handle all of the pool powers, not just the travel pools? How would you handle these characters only able to get the base costume slot, when all other characters get 5-6 costume slots available to them? How would you handle even using a temp power, which all current ATs can use?

This would really be a lot of work for the Devs, since, besides the current powers that the Tarantulas already have, the Devs would need to make new animations for every other power they would get, plus the pool powers, plus and Ancillary/Patron pools they would have access to, PLUS any temp power they could possibly find.

That is a decent problem, and is not just a knee-jerk reaction.

Well, if that's the tack you're going to argue, then Tankers solo better than a lot of Controllers, and still get the same cut of team rewards as them. Same with Defenders. Same with Peacebringers, I'd argue.

There is always going to be a spectrum of abilities whenever you have a multiple-AT-like setup, with some ATs better at soloing, and some at teaming, with some falling in the middle, able to team and solo decently well. That doesn't mean those ATs are broken.
  12. Yes they do, and will get to you as soon as they can. It depends on how many other petitions are in front of you, and how you worded it, really.
  13. Sigh...

It's not extraordinary synergy, but it is synergy nonetheless. On a set like fire, where the mitigation is fairly low, having some direct mitigation is pretty nice. And since Fire relies on it's resistance plus a fast recharging heal, having less damage incoming is nice.
  14. Mine is only level 10, so take this with a grain of salt:

But it should be a pretty decent combo. The -resist of the attacks stacks nicely with the resistance of Fire Armor. It's not a straight stacking like -ToHit and Defense is, but they work nicely together. Basically, if an attack would land that would do 100 points of damage, you have 40% resistance to the attack, then normally you would take 60 damage. If you have stacked -21% damage on the foe, then he will normally deal 79 damage, but with your resistance, that gets dropped to 47.4, saving you 31.6 damage taken.

Also, one of the weaknesses of Kinetic Melee is in AoE damage, which is more than made up for in the Burn + Blazing Aura combo. In this way, Fire Armor actually helps plug a hole in the secondary, when normally it's the other way around.

The knockdowns and stuns in Kinetic Melee can help with mitigation until Healing Flames is back up, and against hard single targets, Fiery Embrace + Power Siphon will let you add a lot of damage to your attacks for a little while.

I'm really looking forward to leveling mine up.
  15. It depends more on the powersets in question than anything else. For instance, a Super Reflexes Scrapper is going to want to try to get Melee/Ranged/AoE Defense, since he already has those. Same for both a Shield/ Tanker and a /Shield Scrapper.

Now, an Invulnerability or Ice tanker, since they have typed defenses within their armors, want to get more S/L Defense.

Basically, you want to try to get more of what you already have.
  16. No, those are not typos. They are the actual names of the neighborhoods. Baumton only got turning into "Boomtown" after the explosion, for example.

Will this cause me trouble if I decided to play the character now? I remember hearing that before the hollows came out there were "Frostfires" on several servers that had to talk to GMs about their names, so I'm not sure.

Also, if I deleted and remade the character, would the name now be "reserved"
If you were to try to rename the character, then it probably wouldn't work. What you may want to do is petition yourself, and let the GMS know that you had the name well before this issue came out, just so that they can flag your character as such.
  19. Not all animations are the same if you use a shield. The Stone Melee mallets are two-handed usually, but are one-handed when using a shield. They change the animations if they would look too stupid, or they couldn't make them work with the shield.
  20. Well, with the Bruising ability, you should be using Frozen Fists a decent amount of the time, so you might as well slot it!
  21. Ace, that is awesome. Might have to keep that one somewhere.
  22. Eden, I think that your lack of replies mainly stems from the fact that your question is just so broad that many might see it as tough to answer.

Will a Shield/Ice Tanker be good? Yes

What kind of advice do I have for you as a newbie to tanking:

    1) Take Taunt at level 10. Since this is your first time Tanking, you should get the best tool for the job. If, later on down the road, you find that you aren't using it that much, then you can drop it if you want to (although with the -range debuff on it, I'd take it on almost every Tank I make). As a Tanker, teams will be relying on you to take the hits for them, and Taunt lets you do that reliably from a low level.

    2) You're going to be squishy on a full team unless you have support. Until level 22 when you get SOs and have a decent amount of slots in your core defensive powers, you might feel like you're a little weak. Do not be afraid of saying that you need some support in a team in the lower levels (or ever, really). You're making sure that they're not being hit, they should be able to help you out, too. Once you get into the mid-20s, though, you'll feel a lot tougher.

    How is the Shield/Ice combo?

It should be pretty good. You're getting into Ice Melee now that it is no longer Le Suck (that's right, it sucked so bad it was in French). It has some nice synergies, with Ice Melee's controls allowing you to fuel Against All Odds and give yourself a nice damage buff without taking a lot of damage in return. Also, the combination of Shield Charge plus Frozen Aura should be a really nice combo. This is especially true because Shields doesn't have a damage aura, so you can actually make use of the sleep effect in Frozen Aura.

Damnit, now I want to make one. Altitus strikes again.
  23. I believe that it will force a redraw of an Arachnos Mace, and then a redraw of the regular mace you use when you go back to using those powers.

Old games designed during the Great Depressions are impossible to play
    1) The game was only designed 6 years ago.

    2) Mids isn't part of the game

    3) Why would you cancel your account over something that isn't part of the game?

    4) Did you check whether it was Mids or the .net framework that wasn't working? Mids has no control over the .net framework working or not. But if you used the steps they outlined then it should work.
  25. Is this going to be for a completed build, or a leveling-up build?

If you're planning on leveling this up, I'd HIGHLY recommend putting off Death Shroud for a while. That power, while nice, is an end hog before you get Stamina and SOs to help mitigate it. You'll want to make sure that you have enough endurance to hit Dark Regen whenever you need it.

You'll probably only need either Cloak of Fear or Oppressive Gloom. If you go Cloak of Fear, again, you'll want to put it off until after Stamina. I'd actually probably say take Oppressive Gloom instead of Cloak of Fear, though, so that way you're not as endurance starved all the time. Oppressive Gloom runs on HP, instead of Endurance, but this is largely irrelevant between your Tanker HP and Dark Regen anyways.

Weave is going to largely be useless to you, unless you'll have other sources of Defense to stack it with.
