Quote:That was me, Bill. I can solo without IOs. You solo at at extreme setting, and need IOs to do it. You don't need IOs to solo. That is the point. You need them to do the content at harder setting, but you don't need them to do the content. And for whoever asked the insanely dumb question of "if you solo why do you need incarnate stuff," I solo and need IOs to do it. What's the difference?
With IOs I can run at +4/x8 w/ bosses and have soloed a good number of AVs. Without IOs, I couldn't do these things. With incarnate abilities I'll be able to solo some of the things I'm unable to solo now.
Incarnate abilities are character advancement. If you don't see the "need" for that, then don't bother even slotting TOs.
I see the need for character advancement. I don't see a particular need to get the Incarnate slots for that to happen, that is my point. Certainly, you CAN do it, but you don't NEED to do it to play the rest of the game.
If, for instance, you couldn't do the level 45-50 content without using IOs, and you could only get IOs if you teamed, then that would be a problem. But neither of those is true. Teaming just makes IOs a bit easier to get, and so you can get to a point where you can solo at +4/+8 faster. But you can still get there even if you solo the entire time. -
The_Britisher,
I love your attitude: If somebody disagrees, they can't read. If they do agree, then they've finally seen your point.
Learn to argue, and you'll see that the rest of us can read. -
Quote:I am reading every word you're writing. Just because I don't agree, or am bringing up similar points, doesn't mean I'm skimming.Aett...learn to read thoroughly not summarize. You EXACT responses are because you're skimming.
Quote:I mentioned things as I did to cover as many bases as possible, and I explained myslef well enough.
Any opinions are obviously fine. That's what this is for, but I don;t want to take up valuable time explaining things like this when it shouldn't be necessary.
Quote:I just have an idea/desier I'd like to get noticed without needless explanations beyond the original posting (unless it is undully misunderstood). Too many back/forth "chatting" hijacks the purpose and content of the thread.
Quote:I'm all for well thought out replies (be it pro or con), so I'd hope that's what would be posted in the effort that a Dev (GM..ect/whatever) takes notice/interest. They have alot of posts to skim. If there's more to the point conversation, and the points made are valid enough, then it has a chance for success is all.
So that's why I posted this. I rolled the snowball and we'll see if there's a big enough hill to make it get seen.
Quote:Also, taking the party line is fine if that's your interest, but is it really neede to be restated again? From this point forward how about everyone just assumes allthe usual pros/cons have been stated and are understood.
If you already knew the 'usual' pros and cons of this argument, why didn't you address ANY of them in your original post, to show that you had thought about them? The reader should not have to assume how much you know about this topic that you created, especially when you don't take any time to address the very issues you're trying to dismiss.
Quote:Make a majority of TFs/Trials like Instances from WoW. It would work better for everyone. Though while I mentioning it doing a similar method for GMs would be nice too but I digress.
There.
However, that is ignoring the issue that in an MMO, having content specifically for teams is not a bad thing. And watering it down so that you can do it solo isn't necessarily a good thing. -
You can get from level 1-50 completely solo, if you want. That is you gaining power.
Doing a TF, except for possibly the new Incarnate stuff, does not make you any more powerful than if you were to solo through different content.
So you can get just as powerful solo as you can by running team content. How is that not fair? -
Quote:If you don't like that people have different opinions than you, why did you post in the first place? "Just getting it out there" isn't a good enough reason, really. People who disagree with you aren't close-minded or trolls, they just have a different opinion. If you can't deal with that, maybe it's not them who should leave. Also, I probably won't be reading too many replies on here as there have been many bad experiences with trolls, close-minded replies in the past to ideas/topics that should have open discussion/consideration.
Again, just getting the word out. More features are always more preferrable then less. You never know when you might be in a similar situation. -
Superman sometimes works with the Justice League to defeat enemies that are too powerful for him to take alone. Same with Thor and the Avengers. They were certainly able to take down larger threats than they would have been able to alone, in most of the stories.
With the new content that came with GR, we got a lot of content that you could do either solo or with a team, so you've got that. But for some people, teaming is the better part of this game. Why not give them some content to do, too? The soloers can do about 90-95% of the game. Why isn't that enough?
Some people can already start most TFs with a team, then do them solo anyways, so it can be done. Just because you need to start with a team doesn't mean you need a team all the way through. Certainly, they are tougher to do without the team, but if you've built your character to do them solo, you can.
Items that require forced teaming are already a minority of things in this game. The Alpha slot will not change that. -
If you only solo, what need do you have for the Alpha slot?
I believe that in order to get the Alpha slot, you may be 'forced' to do some teaming. Since this is an MMO, there should be some things that require teaming, IMO. And I run mostly solo/very small teams most of the time. I don't mind that there is some content out there that requires a bit more teaming to do. -

How about adding a new building to some less-used zone like Brickstown (makes sense with Arachnos constantly raiding the Zig) where the Villain Patrons are plotting their takeover of Paragon City. Make it semi-hidden, where you need to be sent there by a contact before you can get in.
Have all of the Patrons there, with new arcs for hero-side, and completing them unlocks the patron pools. Certainly make them semi-villainous arcs in nature, but maybe more information-gathering than true mayhem and murder.
Or, heck, you could even make it some sort of haven for the Praetorian versions of the villain Patrons, with brand new arcs, giving out the same types of powers. -
-
It was the first thing that came up when I googled it. Not sure what happened there.
-
Another unlikely possibility: you parked yourself near a hold in the geometry, and when you logged back in, you fell through it, and the game yanked you to what it determined to be a safe area.

Welcome back!
1) Sort of, yes. Controllers now get Containment damage, basically doubling their damage against enemies that have been controlled previously (either with their powers or any others). This can help their damage output significantly, depending on the set. Defenders just got a bit of a boost when their solo/on a small team. They get a 30% damage boost when solo, going down 10% for each team member they have, down to 0% for a 4-man team.
2) Low-level population is fine, since people are encouraged to make alts and try out new characters. However, a large portion of new characters are being made in Praetoria, which requires you to have GR to access. Still, you shouldn't have a problem finding teams. Also, super-sidekicking has been introduced, meaning that you can basically team with anyone of any level, and gain XP while doing so.
3) Pretty much, yeah. However, you may want to check out Inventions, which can sometimes be useful before level 20.
4) Check out ParagonWiki. There is a page there that will go through all of the updates you may have missed, and is a great source of info in general. -
Quote:The vendors will usually buy back normal enhancements (training, dual-origin and single-origin) at better than you can get on the market. The vendors will buy back SOME salvage at higher prices than you can get on the market (mostly common tech salvage and uncommon salvage of all types). The vendors will buy back SOME salvage at much lower prices than you can get on the market (mostly common magic salvage and all rare salvage). Thanks for the quick reply.
Learnt some valuable info in here
@Aett_Thorn thanks for the tips, while i was doing a lot of solo missions i spent some time teaming up. I was skipping the market a lot cause i thought it was better to sell to the vendor. most items i had were selling for very low prices.
@Nethergoat i didnt know that IO's dont expire, good tip
For recipes, you will have to check out the market prices to see if the vendor offers a better or worse price for it. -
First off, welcome to the game and to the forums!
Secondly, if you just started 2 days ago, how did you get to level 25 so quickly? You have probably been teaming a lot, which means that you get slightly less drops for yourself, which means less to sell to the vendors/market.
Secondly, make sure that you are utilizing the markets. A lot of common salvage sells for quite a bit on the markets, and if you get lucky and get a rare drop, you can finance a character for the rest of his career in basic single-origin (SO) enhancements.
Secondly, you can always ask for some money. People here sometimes have a lot, and can usually spare some for a nice, new player. -
Quote:Yes you are. 45% Defense will soft-cap you against anything up to +5, unless they have ToHit buffs. A +2 Mob gets an accuracy bonus against you, but not a ToHit bonus. 50% Defense and 45% Defense against a +2 minion will get you hit exactly the same amount. There seems to be a misconception about what the soft-cap is. It is not the maximum possible defense you can get. It's the point at which more defense doesn't buy you anything against even-con, 50% to-hit, PvE enemies on the first attack.
This mean that:
1) If you're soft-capped against even-con opponents, you are not soft-capped against +2 level opponents. -
Just a quick caveat, Jade: not all attacks have both a positional and type, though the exceptions are rare. For instance, a decent amount of Mind Control attacks only have a type, but no positional attack vector.
-
Force Field and Empathy, too. At least for the protector-type heroism.

Well, Banes can already customize the Mace Mastery mace, but only because it uses the same model as their Bane powers, and they can customize that.
The problem with customizing the epics is how they work in terms of level available. It's the same thing for power pools. Since you don't have them at the beginning of your characters life, there's another level of tech that they need to create to get us that level of customization (as well as all of the animation work). Arachnos Soldiers are a little different, but they basically get 'recreated' at level 24, and are then able to rechoose 'base' powers.
Edit -> Ahhh...didn't know you could change the Mace already. -
Luminara,
Of course we know that the accuracy can be enhanced. Of course we know that the duration can be enhanced. Of course we know that the endurance cost can be brought down by enhancing it. Of course we know that the recharge can be brought down with enhancements. The problem isn't that it needs to be enhanced. The problem is that even when fully enhanced, it's still a bad power.
Unlike most controller AoE, low-accuracy powers, it's PBAoE, which means it definitely not that useful for a ranged character. The Mag 2 can't be enhanced, and so only affects minions, as you address. Sure, it can be stacked with the single-target fear, but that means that you need to use two high-endurance powers to lock down a lieut if he's the troublesome one.
Fully slotted with SOs, you can't even address all of the problems fully. You can't get enough accuracy and EndRed in it without compromising the fear duration or recharge. With 2 EndRed, 2 Acc, 1 Fear and 1 RecRed, I get a 13.7 End, 100% accuracy, 45 second Recharge, 13.9 second fear that will only affect minions. Intimidate can likewise not be made perma on anything with SOs.
With IOs, five of the Glimpse of the Abyss set (all but the damage proc) and the Nightmare triple get it down to: 14.9 End, 120% Accuracy, 34.3 second recharge, 20.3 second fear duration. For that much slotting, you're still paying a hefty fee to use this power. By the end of that, you'd have been better off taking just about any other power.
Certainly, we're not asking for the Presence pool to replace Controllers/Dominators. I don't think that if you made this power better, you'd see a swarm of people taking it and not inviting controllers to the team. It's still not as good as a true hold or stun. It's still only going to affect minions, whereas the controller can get lieuts and sometimes bosses in one go.
If you were to lower the endurance cost and recharge, it still wouldn't be as good as a Controller's powers, but would make it more useful for other ATs to take.
Edit -> And this is from somebody who did take the power, put all of those IOs into it, and STILL felt like the power was a waste, so please don't give me that "if you put some enhancements and time into it, it's a fine power." It's not. It was useless still, and a waste of my endurance.
