I am, and I had to explain why to my housemate.
We have a tabletop game for superheroes going, and we'd just made the decision to leave the one city and take our 'team' to Paragon.
My other housemate's still at work, and probably doesn't know about this yet - he's the GM, and I just got him to re-sub.
So yeah I'm wiping tears from my face for the last half hour or so, and I expect I'll continue to do so all day. :/
At the very least, we all know around here that the jibe "it's only a game" is meaningless.
This isn't "just" a game. This is our home. A beautifully rendered, painstakingly detailed city. A living city, with people getting mugged on nearly every corner, with a thriving economy, with expansion and change, a dynamic place.
It was my home for so long that I dream about it. I had plans for it. I based much of my character development on it in even other unrelated realms.
I just can't comprehend not having it there, even on my desktop. -
Quote:Never get even one cent from me, NC. Never. Everyone I know will be hearing about this, gamers on Steam will hear about this, NC needs to be shown what fools they are.No idea if this will even get noticed by the corporate suits, but:
Proceed on this path, dismantle Paragon Studios and close City of Heroes, and you ensure that I and likely many friends of mine will never touch another product of yours.
I won't be picking up Guild Wars 2, shiny new thing trotted out to mass fanfare.
I shall not touch the stunted and faltering Aion.
I will not deem Lineage 2 worthy of my attention.
I would deny Guild Wars in any of its boxsets my notice or hard drive space.
I shall shun Blade and Soul despite whatever promises it may make.
I will not touch Wildstar no matter what it tries to lure me with.
Any creation of yours shall be verboten to my money, mind or heart.
And dare to use the City of Heroes IP without the developers that nurtured it to be such an enjoyable game and my contempt for your company shall grow to leviathan proportions.
Yours sincerely,
Player since July of 2004, it was my birthday present. -

Yeah I was so freaking happy last night to have gotten the kirby dots aura - and wheeee look what comes up today.
I'm in tears, I can't even stand this.
I'm on Steam under Zekiran. Catch me there, or on my facebook if you're not already, I'm Zekiran Immortal there too.
We're going to have to do something big, something Badge would want, if he doesn't come back before the end. -
yeeeeee I finally got my kirbydots!
34W2-4MPZ-ND92-8F47-EUY5 was mine. I just took blocks and stuck them in notepad, and deleted as I went through them if they didn't work. The 34W block might still be open, Tenzhi. -
My 50s were in order:
emp/dark defender
ice/kin controller
fire/fire tank
dualblades/wp scrapper
psi/mind blaster
kin/electric brute
I had a lot of fun on all of them, but I have to say that the Brute leveled quickest, and was without a doubt the 'easy button' of the bunch. Working on a plant/rad something, fire scrapper, and others, but my next 50 is likely to be a water/time defender.
But brutes are very, very fun to play. I think probably the most enjoyable experiences just running around hitting things. They're really what tanks should have been in the first place. -
Something I just realized we have extremely little of is: SHELL designs.
We just got the WATER based powerset, so... where are the oceanic style costume pieces?
Shoulder pieces:
Conch shells, Nautilus shells, Mitre shells, Clam shells, Starfish; Fins (similar to fish monster, but colorable)
Chest designs in similar fashions (particularly a 3-d starfish would be cool)
Coral hair, shell hats, leafy-sea-dragon hair, lion/scorpionfish hair/fins, FISHERMAN HAT (with hooks and bobs?)
Tail similar to a seahorse's, shark's (animated)
Glove and Boot options: FLIPPERS (diver's footwear), coral, better fins than the fish-monster ones
Cape: manta-ray 'wings', a SCHOOL OF ANIMATED FISH? (Hey we have the waterfall option, and auras, maybe the fish could be an aura)
... Just trying to do a character up for a friend on deviantart and found a huge lack of both sea-creature and fossil-style items. -
Oh I missed this yesterday! Happy birthday!!

I wish we had a rep system. I would rep the hell out of you.

She was certainly an inspiration - grating though she could be - to many comedians and women in general. It was okay to be a bit bonkers.

I suspect that the entire medical and genetic community has learned a lot ABOUT viruses from HIV, but yeah at that time it was pretty crazy nonsense being spouted on a near-daily basis.
Remember that we didn't start tracking the Human Genome and getting real results until well into the 90s and beyond, science and the medical sciences in particular kind of got a boost - ironic as you say - from this whole ordeal.
The fact that the virus has mutated enough in the last 20 years to *not kill its hosts* is indicative of what viruses REALLY do. They're good at it. That's why we use them to heal people. I wonder if they were predicting THAT?
I know of only one book that really got a lot right, and that was Nature's End - co-written by the same author who brought the craziness that was Communion. In it they postulated quite a few things that HAVE 'come true', more accurate in the social aspects of human life than the technical ones, but still pretty scary stuff. -
Yeah that and the author seems unduly enfatuated with that one author I've never in my life heard of but is apparently the "writers writer"... >_> yeah, okay guys.
-
They also seem to have forgotten that Battlestar Galactica existed long, long before the new version, and "frak" (and feldergarb, etc) were already "in use" by geeks. Kind of strange that they'd simply... ignore that the new version is a poor imitation of the original, which IS I would say more cult today than the new one - which I'd easily consider mainstream.
I've never heard of any given 'social aspect' show (ie: they're actually just sitcoms with a bit of snide) so I'm unclear why they'd have 'cult' status either, they're generally more appealing to a broader audience.
Archer, however, there's a show that deserves to have its own cult -
Oh my, that IS sad news. Almost everything he wrote, I owned at one point or another, and certainly loved. He was an exceptional writer and definitely an inspiration to me AS a writer. He will be missed deeply.

It introduces CoOp and that's pretty cool. I probably still won't play it, but that's all right. It'll mean more SFM and Gmod resources.
Did y'all notice the L in Blood Brothers looks suspiciously like a CROWBAR? -
I hit 50 with my Brute, R3M073 UNi7, first non-hero-at (though he's praetorian/blueside) to reach it.
Got my MM out of mothballs long enough to ding her to 21 and realize that I really, really don't like playing masterminds.
Got Emperor's Adul8r to 24 and am distressed that she cannot do most things you guys can (because she's not "out" of Praetoria and never will be if I can manage it)... like join supergroups, gain extra (non halloween) costume slots in-game, and the like. I'm not even sure, is the Praetoria auction house connected to the rest of the game's? It sure doesn't feel like it.
Got my water/time ... blaster? shoot I can't even remember what she IS ... from 12 to 18 and gained a new Global friend teaming up in Steel.
Got a purple drop on Remote that netted me well over 160 million inf since I never am able to use those drops, which will fund any respecs that MM of mine needs.
All in all I had a lot of fun. It was really warm in town, and my room is heating up already today.
Frankly this was the longest I've spent *not using Steam* in months, I need to get back online on Steam and see what I've missed over there. -
They're the cutest things in the world!
I really should get a couple. Gawd, there would be a whole pack of characters I'd love to see. -
HAHAH yeah that's horrifying hahah!
And I have that image still in my collection, it's so pretty! I've gotten a couple others of Winter, too, in fact let's see:
Diana Harlan Stein, one of my favorite artists. I try to get things from her every year at comic con, but sometimes just didn't have money. This year, I splurged on this, and a gorgeous Joe Phillips rendition of my new Borderlands character Moraga. YUM.
Of course, on the COH front, it took 4 days and 2 NC people to figure out that the code I had entered wasn't complete - if I'd known that, I'd have been able to snap up another on Thursday, because they were running the codes like, ALL day long, every half hour. :/ So I missed out, though I've already told them to escalate it to the Paragon people who ran the contest. It's very frustrating knowing that if even ONE person had looked and said, "that's not enough numbers!" I'd have my kirby crackle. :/ -
Given that I didn't have internet for a good 9 months, my 2004 join date is a bit deceptive, but that's really the ONLY reason I don't have closer to 8 years now. :/
-
Awesome, congratulations to the winners! I saw this linked from the coh facebook page, too.

Thank you all!
This year I have to stop enjoying my endless run of 33.3 (since, you know, when I turned 33 it seemed appropriate given my collection of records?) because now I'm a 45.
O.o
I just hope that my thursday tweet code gets okayed, since I had issues logging it in and now support is looking at why it didn't work. :/ Of course, not encouraging that the link in the emails to follow up or inquire further, leads to the *german* page. :/
I just want mah dots! Is that so hard?
