No WP, no Shields... Have fun with your BS/Inv. It should be fun =)

Quote:I typically agree, and specifically do as well, however. I would like to point out a bit of difference between other mechanics and the Incarnate system.
There is lore tied to the system explicitly through the story arc content that is less 'easy' to hand-wave away. After all, the reason your powers aren't "drained to the point of being useless" is the Incarnate lore.
It's a troubling aspect, sure, you can still hand-wave it off, but it becomes more a case of just ignoring the story/plot that is actually presented to you.
Well, basically one can look at it this way:
A character has powers because of (Freak Accident|Training|Gadgets|Pick One), and there is a certain reason behind them - the rules of the Universe, so to speak. The Well of Furies is just the one that wrote the rules, and getting information directly from the source will allow for the character to gain more power. Simplistically, Knowledge = Power.
Much like we don't know ALL the rules of physics, or chemistry, or whatever. Finding new things can potentially lead to new applications in whatever field one is studying. Getting closer to the source may unveil new knowledge for your Natural character to progress beyond what he thought possible before. -
To be honest, I don't really see it that way. Basically, I see the in-game "balance" and most "background" mechanics disconnected from the character concepts themselves. What I mean with "background" mechanics is, for example, the use of invention sets vs. normal enhancements, as opposed to the character having a specific travel power or a particular selection from the powerset that fits conceptually.
I see the incarnate system more as a mechanics thing than conceptual. I have several characters that are based on mechanics (like high-defense /Fire blapper, a Slows-centric Ice/Ice blaster, etc.), and those will be using this new mechanic in a less-than-optimal way that fits that game-systems concept, rather than optimizing their power, so to speak.
For everyone else it'll just be a matter of how much power I'm happy with before I move on to the next alt - my BS/Regen scrapper is still stubbornly on plain IOs+SOs and seems to be enough of a butt kicker that I get discouraged from making her more powerful when there's other alts waiting to be played.
Explaining power increases is something I don't feel much need for. Dragonball-esque climbs on the badass scale are common enough in the comic world. -
Quote:A long time ago I ended up tanking Rommie + Fluffies with my MA/En Stalker during a particularly underpowered ITF. Good times. No, it doesn't determine anything. We've done this dance many times with the LRSF, STF and even the ITF, that line of thought has been proven wrong many many times.
As far as soloability (or small-teamability even) let us start TFs and SFs with whatever number of people we want!
Probably won't happen, but it won't hurt to throw it out there  -
Quote:All my Stamina-less characters just got a whole lot less special... =(Edit:
I'm not even gonna mention the kind of buff this is for those fitness-less DM/Inv running around out there...I'm not...
...
Yeah, I didn't think you'd believe that "=(". This is awesome -
Quote:Wait... WHAT?!Nothing. Just Fitness becomes inherent so you have more rooms to take powers like Smoke Flash.
*Goes off to look for other signs of the apocalypse*
My staminaless Ice/Fire blapper and Dark/Fire scrapper are going to become even more awesome... And... And...
Woah.
...
Wow.
*Goes off mumbling and stumbling along the way* -
a. Roll a Scrapper.
b. Kill everyone.
c. Problem solved!

Okay. In this expansion, Hickman has long flowing white hair, pointy ears, and a great shot with the bow. His sworn enemies are orcs, and in the last arc he jumps into a boat and sails into the distance, never to be seen again (until he rerolls).
-
I'ma gonna hafta take my Stamina-less DM/FA scrapper out of mothballs and give her a spin to see what all these changes are about. The extra goodyness of Consume intrigues me, she's got quite high recharge already so it'll be interesting to see how she fares end-wise now.
Probably still won't be able to complete the RWZ challenge with her, but I'll keep trying! -
Interestingly, if I try to add old files to speed up the process (like copying over the piggies to the new location) the updater checksums them, and then gets stuck at "downloading file manifest."
Guess I'll be re-installing everything at 4 kb/s... Ugh... -
I did a re-install as well, and selected the default file location (C:\Program Files(x86)\City of Heroes) instead of the old one, and seems to be getting through. Currently fixing files so it may be a while.
Very odd, but hey, whatever works I guess. -
Just to note: I got the same thing (running Windows 7 64-bit), and now the updater is getting stuck at "Checking Updater".

Quote:Considering the following some of the fictional immortal vampires get (oh so cute, oh so angsty *squee*), I very much doubt it'll be a problem.Interesting comparison. It doesn't feel like the same thing to me, but I can't make a wholly rational argument as to why, although the fact that the difference between a finite small quantity and a finite large quantity is always less than the difference between any finite quantity and an infinite quantity does come into play. Perhaps that's not necessary, though - we are talking about emotional matters, and that includes irrational jealousy. Maybe there is a person who would be happy to settle down with an immortal for the rest of their lives. Such a person would have to be much more reconciled with their own insignificance in the face of the infinite than I am.
-
Quote:It's going to be interesting to see if the reactions to you saying this are going to be any different than the ones I got.Ignoring anything that immortality would do to his brain, being physically 30 forever means being physically in your sexual prime forever. He's going to be a testosterone-fueled male forever, which means while that doesn't dictate how he (or any other male) will necessarily behave, he'll always have the same physical attractions he had when he was 30. Somehow, I think even Statesman isn't so depressed that he's going to be a monk for eternity.
Quote:Women are born with all the eggs they'll ever have, and hypothesizing them just growing back isn't a trivial exercise. We don't assume that immortal people can necessarily just grow back arms and legs: growing back eggs and follicles is kind of a similar thing.
(Granted, other publications doing similar experiments have reported mixed results, but well... the possibility may be there). -
Quote:Once again, the fact that he's lived more than a century does not have that much bearing because his body (which affects your brain too, hormones are funny that way) isn't changing and aging like that of a normal human. It is a fact that men do find attractive women enticing, as you put it, for quite some time, since they hit puberty until several decades later.Anyone who commits to a marriage lasting 50 years -- especially if you suffer no decrease in vitality in any regard -- is probably not going to take relationships lightly. I rather doubt Cole would find temporary diversions with a "hot chic [sic]" to be all that enticing. Especially after having lived for more than a century.
And why on earth do you all keep insisting on the whole "temporary diversion/use them and toss them/one night stand" thing? Saying that a guy who's attracted to a woman physically is only looking for such a diversion is a fallacy, attraction for men has a strong physical component in all cases.
As I said before, people who become widowers at middle age do grieve, move on, and look for companionship again. Ten or 50 years, someone who's not going down the path of old age will grieve, move on, and look for companionship again. -
Quote:I wasn't merely going off Zeus' persona, I was referring to how the Greeks knew about human nature. Zeus chased hot women because he was a man (something to remember, the Greeks really had very mortal-like gods with their affairs and drives). As long as the novels are something to go by Statesman is still very much a product of his time. He may have been granted the powers of Zeus but he didn't inherit that aspect of the god's personality. He was completely soul-broken when his wife died. In the pages of Freedom Phalanx we learn that she was pretty close to the only person keeping Marcus tethered to, well, anything. At least that's how I understood the peek into his grief addled mind that we're given then.
I'm not sure how to reconcile the Statesman from Web and Phalanx with the Statesman of the comics as I think they're considerably different in character. That Statesman seems to be the beginnings of channeling a more Zeus-like persona.
A man's desires are strongly driven by his Biology, and as the Greeks put it, not only with Zeus but with many others, men will go after the hot women, and women will go after the strong men. That basic desire is there, although modelled and tempered by the culture and environment.
Quote:Being human he could be tempted to dalliances with pleasant and pretty girls but, again, I'm not convinced Marcus Cole is the one night (or even 'few times') stand kind of guy. And even for more long term companionship (normal human scale long term) it would take someone exceptional to compete with the 50 plus years he spent with Monica.
He may very well not be the one night stand kind of guy, but the biological drive for hot women is there even in one looking for more committed partnership. Biology's a b***h.
Quote:That being said... I think it's pretty clear that Marcus Cole is not a love 'em and leave 'em kind of guy. I think that it's certainly possible that he could find love again, but it will take an extraordinary woman to convince him to take that step again. -
Jumping back, as MDanger already pointed out:
Quote:The greeks were quite smart, and had lots of things figured out. You see, Zeus didn't go around looking for equal partnerships or anything like that.Staying true to myth, the joke answer is the most obvious: Anyone he wants.
He went around looking for hot chicks.
So, assuming, as it's been said, that the Well didn't quite froze his biology at 30 but merely sent him into overdrive, what we have here is a blazing testosterone-fueled powerhouse and almost whole-Earth leader of men. Who's he going to date?
The hottest woman he can find.
So, to answer the OP:
Quote:I'm thinking that an 18 year old fresh out of high school would probably not fit the bill ...
However, I bet she'd have pretty strong competition. If rock stars have such a following, I can't begin to imagine what Statesman's groupies may be like. -
Quote:Thanks for the play and the feedback! Glad you liked it.Ran The Invasion of the Bikini-Clad Samurai Vampiresses From Outer Space Arc ID 61013
Total missions: 3
Total time: Approximately 50 minutes
The arc took me from level 10.8 - 11.4
First off...funny stuff...but the best part is that while it starts as this funny feel good thing it ends up with a different feel. How shall I describe it...it is sort of like buying a ticket to see When Harry Met Sally but somewhere in the middle of the movie the film guy accidentally puts on a reel from Sid and Nancy. I really liked how the "feel" of the arc changed.
Great mob descriptions...and running commentary by NPC's was very funny especially the stuff in the last room of Mission 2 (without giving anything away)
How was the difficulty, by the way? I have been messing with the settings and custom mobs, and it's become a wee bit too easy in the upper range, but OK in the lowest one - I think! Trying to gather a bit more info on it -
Quote:I've taken to replacing defensive secondaries with Martial Arts, adding only Shuriken. If I'm going crazy, I'll add the first kick too. The result is getting closer to 100% without the need for K.O. Blow or full defensive powersets, and easier combat than when set to the pre-made "hard/hard" with a defensive secondary.
Question: what do you think would be more fair: try to increase the value of melee attacks in melee sets (which honestly might be difficult without opening other exploitability doors) or simply adding a second ranged attack in the melee sets which would allow players to add another higher value ranged attack on the boss while still avoiding the strongest melee attacks in the melee powersets if desired?
It makes the start of combat slightly more dangerous (alpha remains the same, but there is a second wave of more of the same waiting if one doesn't close in fast), but it's otherwise easier to down them. What I'm not sure of is if that's actually a desirable effect, it's basically speeding up all combat, shifting more of the weight to alpha strikes, and making inspirations more powerful/useful (if combat is shorter, their relative duration is longer - until the ceiling when they cover all combat that is).
Of course, this is only a limited view from tweaking a single mid-level arc, I've not tested this extensively or in a wider variety of level ranges. -
Aha! My arc #1345: "Jumping in Feet First" is a beginner's arc (literally, wrote for someone fresh out of Outbreak! Range's 1-9) and deals with Council Experiments, pure Science Origin! I've had good feedback too, it's not Shakespeare but does the job and is appropriate for a freshly pressed and minted hero =)
Contact's noone flashy though, a re-tasked standard scientist contact I named Dr. Raven. -
#1345: Jumping in Feet First, is for 1-9.
#61013: The Invasion of the Bikini-Clad Samurai Vampiresses From Outer Space is 5-25, a bit on the hard side but I've done it with a defender straight out of outbreak
